Title: LAZY LOAFER ON A SUNDAY
Post by: bk on August 28, 2017, 12:05:45 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were lazy and loafed, and now it is time for you to post until the lazy loafing cows come home.

To continue from last night...after my late lunch yesterday, I went to Olympia Little Theatre to help set up the sound board for their next show, Silent Sky (http://www.olympialittletheater.org/list_of_shows.html), because I'll be running the sound board for that show.  I didn't design the sound, I'll just be running it. :)

After setting up the sound board (we put in all the music that the designer had, so far, but it's not finished, though), we had a paper tech, then a cue-to-cue.  We didn't get through the entire show, but at tonight's rehearsal, we'll probably need less than a half hour to finish, then we'll run the show and I'll get to see it for the very first time.

Then once we stopped rehearsing and got to leave, I went to my friend Michael's house to watch the season finale of Game of Thrones, then I came home.

Charles Bronson

Never was a fan of his especially of his film work from 1970 onwards with a couple exceptions

From Noon Till Three
The Mechanic

His 60's film: Once Upon A Time In The West

But the first film I remember seeing him was The Valachi Papers and for some reason I thought he was comedian/actor Jan Murray.

Elmore, Kaye Ballard was in that movie.

And Kelly Brown!  He was a City Ballet dancer who was a featured dancer in the Leroy Anderson musical Goldilocks; there's footage of him with Pat Stanley in the "Lady-in-Waiting" ballet.  His daughter Leslie played Shirley MacLaine's daughter in The Turning Point and Mrs Nijinsky in Nijinsky.  She's Herb Ross' goddaughter.

I saw this around 1998 and really liked it.

And Kelly Brown was also one of the suitors in 7 Brides for 7 Brothers and had a featured role in Daddy Long Legs.....

I think THE GIRL MOST LIKELY was also the last movie to be released under the RKO RADIO PICTURES banner......  Jane Powell once claimed to have made a movie that closed down the studio....

The outgoing treasurer (Ann) for Middletown Current Events Club and the incoming treasurer (me) met at the bank this morning to add my signature to the club checking account.  It took way longer than it should have, but now it's done.  Ann is finishing cancer treatment and her sister died about a week before my Mom.  We are both trying to pick up some things we'd put on the back burner...

Yes, he was excellent. I didn't know he was related to Leslie Brown. She was wonderful in Turning Point. Gosh, I have seen that movie since high school. I can still remember a lot of it.

The late Roderick Cook introduced me to her around 1985 or so in a coffee shop on Sixth Avenue and 48th Street, as I recall.  He was such a wonderful kind man, and I had been a fan of his since the recording of Oh, Coward!  I was privileged to work with him several times.

Listening to the music of Mr. Aaron Copland - what a composer he was.  While the war horses are exactly that and not as much fun to listen to as they were once, it's stuff like the piano and clarinet concertos, the suite from The Tender Land, and other pieces that aren't as familiar that are so beautiful - and how influential was this man?  Very.

Back from a delightful afternoon date with my guys.  Atomic Blonde is very violent and I slept through a portion in the middle.  I still like Charlize Theiron, but I'd like to see her in a movie with some dialogue.  We went to a burgers & frozen custard place for late lunch/early supper and I'm home just long enough to print the agenda for tonight's AAUW board meeting.  I'm not in charge and looking forward to Carolyn's presidency.

I have a clogged bathroom sink. Roto-Rooter will give you a two-hour window, but the management here insists on using cheap plumbers. I was given a two-DAY window. I just learned at 3:45 that the plumber won't be here today. He will arrive tomorrow early morning, which I'd specifically said I didn't want. Oy. I truly hate renting.

My friend Carol is having surgery tomorrow to have her gall bladder removed. This is probably 18 months overdue.

I also found out that my friend Bev has been diagnosed with cancer. It started in her ovaries and has spread to both spleen and lymphnodes.

Would appreciate some of those HHW vibes for both.

And now, I must be off.  I'm meeting the sound designer of Silent Sky at the theater so we can tweak the sound files and cues.  Once the cast gets there, we'll finish the cue-to-cue that we started last night, then have a full run-through.

Be back later.

Very.

I thought Sylvester Stallone's performance in COPLAND was quite wonderful, even though they fictionalized many aspects of the great composer's life for the film.

How is your friend, ChasSmith?

Coming along.  She's hit the "how long does this stuff take to heal, again?" doldrums, and sleep is frustrating because she's a side sleeper and has to stay on her back for the first few weeks.  It's amazing to think that the surgery was only five days ago.  She's doing fine for that, even though it seems like it's been at least a couple of weeks.  :)   And that's very much due to the tension, etc., the whole affair, in addition to other responsibilities, has put on all of us.

And now for something completely different: Ruggles of Red Gap with a funny Charles Laughton and a great Mary Boland in the year that she appeared in Jubilee. I loved this movie when I was a kid. Haven't seen it in ages.

The centerpiece of the movie is still effective. Folks at a bar can't remember what Lincoln said at Gettysburg. Ruggles eventually recites the address. And it's a moving reminder of good in this country.

I think maybe I ate one too many snacks - some drumettes, some rigatoni bolognese (not that much) and some hatch chili mac-and-cheese - not that much of that either, but all together maybe it was a bit much.  I could have lived without one of the items and perhaps had a little sweet.  But I only had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich (very small) and the tiny Caesar earlier.

Sorry Jeanne.

Many of the evacuees from Katrina moved to Houston. I'd hate to think that many of them will be going through this a second time, but it is likely the case.

I did not know that.

Not a moment's rest.  In trying to make everything fit on two CDs, some tracks had to be rearranged, but Doug had already laid out the inlay card and there was no room - so he freaked out, but I was calm and we talked it through and I came up with the solution so it would all fit and look fine.  So, that problem solved.  And now it's already eleven which means time to do notes.  And I really can't stay up until three or four tonight, given we're announcing this at six in the morning, although maybe I'll just put it up at midnight.

I think it'll be good.  Tonight's run-through wasn't very smooth, but we were still adjusting sound and light cues, but I'm sure that we'll get through all of it, tomorrow.
