Title: AND TO THAT I SAY PHUT
Post by: bk on October 07, 2017, 01:28:53 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes said phut, and now it is time for you to post until the phut-saying cows come home.

Yes, all in one day DR TCB.

I began with a long walk this morning with a neighbor I recently met.  She is in my new book group.  We stopped for coffee before walking home.

After dinner it was too nice not to walk again.  I didn't want to come home so we walked farther than usual.

I also walked around inside doing a lot of activity instead of sitting.

It is amazing the energy I had after sleeping several nights in a row.  It seems there will not be a 4th night.

Saturday morning greetings!  Up early to get ready to be picked up by my friend Anne at 10:30.  We're going to her favorite needlepoint shop in Grand Blanc, then to lunch.  We've been friends since freshman year at Michigan and I usually only see her when she passes through southern Ohio on her way to Florida and back.

We've finished the chocolate you brought, and it was wonderful.  We haven't finished the other goodies, though.  And Liam has been very careful about having his doggie Meatloaf bits little by little.  Many thanks again!

I slept late, and it was very much needed.  In my last dream I was in a reading of a new musical about teen angst like Evan Hansen that I had composed.  The book writer was wither Megan Gogerty or Laura Harrington, and just before the reading she told me that Playwrights Horizons wanted to hear the score sung since they were thinking of replacing me with a "hip" writer.

I just learned that the new audio edition of TRACY is currently the #1 release on Amazon in the Play and Scriptwriting  Department.  Chris Hendrie delivers a masterful performance as Spencer Tracy in this adaptation of my stage play, which we've enhanced for your listening pleasure with music and sound effects.

These rankings change daily, so we will enjoy this while it lasts.

BK.

I agree that Equity is not the friendliest union when you are trying to put on a low budget production.

It's my understanding that they've dropped this rule now, but back in the 1980s when I was first staging my one-person plays via Equity Waiver (e.g. GABLE, TRACY, etc.), the actor had a "lien" on your play.  In other words, if in the future you did a regular Equity production of that play, you had to offer him the role or pay him Equity minimum if you didn't.  That was certainly fair, but this rule didn't just apply for the first Equity production of the play, but to every production.

That rule certainly didn't help authors get future productions of their plays.

Last night we saw "Hello, Dolly!"   I was astounded at how much better it was since I saw it in May.  I think maybe Bette was a little under the weather when I first saw the show.  But her line deliveries seemed much different to me too.  She was on fire! The understudy went on for Taylor Trensch in the role of Barnaby.  He was fine.  Gavin Creel was wonderful as always.

In the dinner scene, Bette accidentally hit David Hyde Pierce on his forehead.  They both had a lot of fun with her mistake.

Our weather here is DElightful....lovely fall weather.  Oh, yes, DR CHAS SMITH - I cannot believe you have never been to a Fish Fry!  They are staples all summer in these here parts ..... usually catfish, so you have to be careful of bones.... but the smell is great....usually fresh salads and desserts to go along with it...and you are supporting the local volunteer fire departments!

I guess it's a rule if you loan someone money - they are in no hurry to pay it back when they say the will....at least that is my experience right now....it's most depressing - not that I will NEED the money or go hungry....BUT ... well....it is MY money.....

I guess I need to close the First National Bank of JRAND67 for good.

So, did everybody think we were going to get through one day without a cat picture?

Let me put your minds at ease.

I give you:  Barrett.  He belonged to Kristi's dad, who was in the hospital for some time before he passed away.  Nathan brought him to live with us until, a couple of years later, he, too, gave up the ghost.  He was a wonderful boy, and best buddy to Poe.

Well, my mom (not my sister, as I posted last night) and my niece came over today and got most of my downstairs de-cluttered and cleaned.  They just left and I still need to vacuum most of the carpet and all of the stairs.  They're coming back tomorrow to continue, but we made a very good dent in the messiness of my bottom floor.  Still two to go...although, my top loft bedroom isn't as bad as the rest of the house.

Bidding continues to be nuts - the books went for so much more than they were worth despite being from her library - I'm pretty sure I know which book dealer was bidding and winning and my guess is all these will show up on eBay within the next few weeks.

The ghouls are buying all of Debbie's clothing.  I honestly wonder what these people, other than dealers, DO with this stuff.  Books I understand, art I understand, personal memorabilia I understand, scripts I understand, clothes - not a whit.

Everything is selling - ridiculous - there are dealers everywhere precluding anyone from getting anything at a decent price - always the problem with these things - annoying.  And boy is it moving slowly - they won't get to Nick's lot till two o'clock or later at this rate.  An antique vase is currently at 13,000.  Barf.

Yikes! :o

So cute! ;D

Well, I'm a goon.  It turns out that it wasn't leaking from the seam, but just down the seam from the lid that you keep open to let in air.  However, I don't think I needed to open it until more of it has been used.  So, the detergent level was too high for me to have opened that lid yet.  You buy it like this:

(This isn't exactly what I bought, but it has almost the same kind of bottle.)

But when you want to use it, you set it up on its side so that the spout points down like this:

But then the lid the faces forward.  And when it's new and full, the detergent is above the level of the opening, so it leaked along the seam.  DOPEY ME!

Good auction news.....but it was a LONG wait!

DR GEORGE that's why I switched to pods....just throw a couple in the washer....I don't have a fancy one with a reservoir....so I am lucky.....  I use GAIN a lot....I had been using Purex Pods, but my local WalMart stopped selling them....  I have also found that BOUNCE is a much better dryer sheet than what I had been getting at the Dollar Tree...and they are not that much more.

Best part of the concert tonight was a performance of Opus One with the original Sy Oliver orchestrations.

The evening was set up as a tribute to Frank Sinatra and there was a singer whose voice was not like Frank's but he adopted Frank's mannerisms, including some of the ways in which Frank mangled lyrics. He also went up on the lyrics to "The Best Is Yet to Come," but I may be the only one who knew that.

I've been listening to A People's History of the United States, which is 35 chapters. This is on the library's electronic system. During the chapter tonight, there was something I don't think I've never heard in an audiobook: There's suddenly a break and then you hear the people in the recording studio talking about doing another take and it wasn't edited out. Then the narrative returns. Weird.

Back from a long day away from the hotel.   We saw War Paint and Torch Song.  We both enjoyed them very much. I have to say Mercedes Ruehl was very good in Torch Song but almost unrecognizable.    Michael Urie, who was in Buyer and Cellar, plays the lead, and was terrific.
