Well, you've read the notes, the notes were life-changers, and now it is time for you to post until the life-changing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MISOPHONIC!
-
First post after BK!
-
First post after TCB!

I hope you don't sell out tonight. My credit cards are all locked away for the night, so no ordering until tomorrow.
-
Last night, I had dinner at Applebee's with my friend Margo. I was at home all weekend, cleaning my house with my mom and my niece, so I needed to get out. I had the Quesadilla Burger (http://www.applebees.com/menu/burgers/quesadilla-burger). I hadn't had one in quite a while. It was still pretty darned good!

I hope it doesn't sell out, either! At least until I can send an opt-in e-mail.
-
Holiday today! No mail delivery or banks.
-
What holiday???
-
Columbus Day
-
Or if you live in Seattle, it is Indigenous People Day.
-
I thought old Columbus was on the F list these days.

Yes, that's true, but a paid holiday is still a paid holiday.

That does look good. I always mean to try it when I go to Applebee's, but when I get there I forget.

George, do you have a holiday tomorrow, or like state employees did you trade it away for the day after Thanksgiving?

I have to work. Yes, we get the day after Thanksgiving off, too. Much better, if you ask me. ;D

Oh, did George head off to bed?

Opt-in e-mail sent! Actually, I had to send two. Don't ask. ::)

VERY true!

Oh, did George head off to bed?
No. I'm cutting out the commercials from from last week's episode of 20/20 that's on my DVD burner!

Why did you...... Never mind.

The shows on Comcast on Demand have commercials?

I think if the program originally had commercials, the On Demand version will have commercials, too. Sometimes, there might only be one commercial during the breaks so that the whole program might only be 45 minutes, instead of the regular 60 or so minutes during the original broadcast.
-
George have you watched the new MACGYVER?
No. I've only seen a couple of commercials.

George Eads (from CSI) is a regular.

Well, I need to get some sleep. I have a doctor's appointment in the morning.

Good night.

Good night, Tom. And good luck in the morning!

Well, I'm off to sleep, too.
Have a good day, all!

Good morning, all.

TOD:
A few life changers from my early days:
Mary Poppins when I was about 3.
An album of George M. Cohan songs when I was 7 or 8.
A Little Night Music when I was 11.
Springsteen’s Darkness on the Edge of Town when I was 16.
-
T.O.D.
Life changers?
When I was 4-years old, my mother took me to see Disney's PINOCCHIO.
I heard the little wooden guy sing, "Hey, didley-dee! An actor's life for me!"
From that moment on, the only thing I wanted was to be in show business.
My family thought I'd outgrow it, but I didn't.
True story.
;D
-
Good morning to all

TOD
Film: Mary Poppins & Sound of Music (At age 5 & 6 respectively)
Music: My Fair Lady (My parent's Broadway LP). Then the soundtracks of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music which were my own.
Book: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (I also had the complete book on LP and from memory could recite the first three chapters)
TV: The annual broadcast of The Wizard Of Oz hosted by Danny Kaye
Theater: Tour of Fiddler On the Roof with Paul Lipson as Tevye
Bonus: Alice In Wonderland read by Cyril Ritchard box set on several LPs with the original John Tenniel illustrations on the covers. Just like Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I wore them out.
Big connection looking back at what I liked growing up.

Good morning.

Good morning, all!

TOD: I saw "Forever Plaid" with some friends at a local theater. I knew as soon as Sparky said "Love is a long and slender thing" that I just HAD to bring my daughter to see it. She LOVED it and became quite obsessed with the show. We bought the CD of the show (we had to buy a CD player to play it). She had quite the teenage crush on Jason Graae, so I took her to see him in concert in the LA area. He was touched by this young fan who came all the way from Phoenix to see him. We saw him in concert again at the Cinegrill and he introduced us to BK himself. That led me here. And to all you lovely people. Of course, I met DR Kerry through this site, and he became a part of our family.
-
BK, please hold a copy of THE CRUCIBLE for me! I'm waiting on a check.
-
I slept poorly. Very poorly.
-
Annabelle has been rather hyper this morning. Maybe it's the weather.
-
Just wait until that Da Bird thing comes, Elmore. Just wait.
-
I'm ready for some chilly weather; I hate this it's-hot-it's-cool-it's-warm-it's-freezing vacillation.
-
DR Laura, I loved your comment on HEDWIG; I feel that way about WAITING FOR GODOT. I'n glad I've seen a professional production. Once is enough.
-
CD ORDERED!
-

Good morning!

Almost through page 2 before 10 am EST! It's gonna be a great day.

I just sent a very polite and refined email opting IN for The Crucible.

The Paper Chase (although more the TV series than the film) made me feel I just had to somehow go to that particular law school, and that goal changed my focus in school and my life, so i guess that would be a life-changer.
Fifth of July, the company led by Richard Thomas, did a lot to change my attitudes about life.
-
There's a wonderful tie-in, for me, between the TOD and the CD release itself which represents one of BK's main life-changing events.
It just happens that Emerson Buckley was the conductor of the Fort Lauderdale Symphony during our years living there, in those formative years of mine when the first of my own life-changing events had either struck, or were about to strike, like lightning.
-
He'd also been conducting opera in Miami, and I'd imagine he was one of the stronger influences in the Florida-centric classical music world over a number of years.
I should research the number of recordings he made. I don't think there are a lot out there, but certainly a few other operas.
-
I did not know fruit platters could be special ordered. The prepared ones sitting out rarely look fresh.
-

I have to work. Yes, we get the day after Thanksgiving off, too. Much better, if you ask me. ;D
Much better. The last day I worked was the day after Thanksgiving. My plan was to go on maternity leave beginning Thanksgiving but I would not have been paid for the holiday unless I worked on Friday.
-
George have you watched the new MACGYVER?
Is it any good?

Good morning!

I looked up 5th of July with Richard Thomas. The reviews for him in this, and his affect on the performances of the rest of the cast were fantastic,

Yesterday we saw "The Prince of Broadway, " which is a tribute to Hal Prince. Songs from many of his shows are performed. We were looking forward to seeing Tony Yazbeck in the show, but unfortunately he was out with the flu. HIs understudy was really great and we enjoyed most of the other performances. Michael Xavier, who recently appeared in Sunset Boulevard with Glenn Close, sang "Music of the Night," Chuck Cooper did "Old Man River," Karen Ziemba sang "So What?" from Cabaret. Emily Skinner's "Ladies Who Lunch" seemed to be a tribute to Elaine Stritch.

Saw Richard Thomas in a mammoth six-hour staging of Peer Gynt. He was great.

TOD
1958 - attending a pipe organ concert, resulting in a family move and several years of lessons.
1959 - the score of Porgy and Bess (via seeing the film) and Gershwin's Concerto in F via the List/Hanson recording on Mercury.
1960 - seeing South Pacific staged by some amateur group (I'd seen the film the year before), and finally getting my hands on the original cast album after being tortured by a no-name supermarket album for a year.
1963 - missed the roadshow engagement, but the score of West Side Story on the opening night of the film in Fort Lauderdale. Subsequently, discovering the world of "complete vocal scores" as listed on the back of vocal selections books. ("Wow, nine dollars, so it must be something interesting.")
1964 - entering the annual contest to play a concerto with the Fort Lauderdale Symphony -- playing the aforementioned Concerto in F for the aforementioned Emerson Buckley -- and NOT winning, an excellent lesson in never trying such a foolhardy thing again. :)
1966 - being introduced to the Bernstein NY Phil recording of Mahler's Second and the Ormandy Carmina Burana, on reel-to-reel tape and through quality headphones...all in the same evening.
1966 - meeting and hearing Arthur Loesser when he came down to play in a joint concert with a chamber group I was accompanying, resulting in my attending the Cleveland Institute of Music.
1967 - the Szell performances of the Mahler Sixth. Shortly thereafter, meeting James Levine (who had just played celesta in that) to tell him I wanted to play keyboard parts in his orchestra.
1971 - joining Levine and others on my first visit to California where he was to conduct at the Hollywood Bowl, resulting in my moving to LA a year later. That move, in turn, influenced my more or less walking away from music for some years -- stupid on the one hand, but I wouldn't trade those years. (Also not insignifcant - my first meal at Hamburger Hamlet on that first afternoon before that first concert.)
1975 - being taken for a sightseeing flight around LA on Christmas Eve day, igniting an obsession that wouldn't wind down until after several years of flying around on my own pilot's license.
1990 - a routine meeting of a coworker's new in-laws, who turned out to be the builders of this house.
2012 - finding my way here and meeting all of you -- not in the least BK and DR Elmore, who represent the worlds I would happily choose to inhabit for all time.....if only we had all time.
-
Sorry for length of that!

With Richard Thomas, the relationships seemed so natural. That doesn't detract from the previous cast's interpretation as an artistic effort, but it was very different.
I was happy that I met the writer of the play Lanford Wilson at his book signing and was able to tell him what an effect his play had had for me. He seemed very pleased to hear that as he signed my copy of the book.

I am quite exhausted. Annabelle and I played an intense game of "hunt the fishie," and her tracking instincts are really good. I then packed up some storage cartons with CDs and books. Annabelle says she helped but she only climbed in and out of the empty storage boxes and criticized my packing. Then I had to clean her litter box because she nearly suffocated me with one of the stinkiest poops I have ever encountered. It was an awful cleanup.
-
She's also become intrigued by the apartment door. After I carried out the first of the boxes, which our DR CharlesSmith will hopefully take to Connecticut this week, I could see her eyeing the door with a great deal of concentration. I know she's itching to see what's on the other side.

Oy! She's either managed to sneak out the door while my back was turned or she's hiding. She likes to climb up into one of my closet shelves and lie with the towels and sheets. I've called her but she's not answering me.

Shake a container of treats. If that doesn't work try opening a can of her favorite food.

Never apologize for posts! Except that we could be on Page 63 by now if you had broken it up into chunks.

Ditto and Ditto!

Well, it's official! I'm getting Neve today! I hope she doesn't totally freak out. She's never met me and is going to a whole new place to live. At least my house is finally clean enough (mostly). There are just the two bedrooms to clean. My mom and niece are coming over again on Wednesday, but they WON'T be cleaning my bedroom, only the extra bedroom. ;)
-
Are you picking her up or is she being driven to you?

I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
I finally went searching with a flashlight. I do not know how she got up there, but I found her lying on top of the pet carrier in which I brought her home on the shelf in my closet above my hanging clothes.
DR Nursie, that shaking the jar of treats had never occurred to me! I will start doing that whenever I offer her a treat so that when she hears it, she'll know something tuna flavored is coming her way.

The film that had the most personal impact on me was THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES. I am not sure how old I was when, home alone I watched it on tv. Until then I had no understanding of the how a person became an alcoholic and the destructive drive that went with it. It gave me a compassion and understanding I desperately needed to cope with my mother.
I was lucky this powerful movie with a superb cast was my introduction on this subject outside of my home.
-
Very relieved to hear she was right there!
And yes, exactly, the treat shaking thing is probably the very first thing for a cat owner to do.
-
DR elmore, she is a cat. Cats get up into high places, and back down them, all by themselves ;D
-
I have been finding Annabelle's antics entertaining.
-
Keith and I were recently talking about a life changing event somewhat related to theater. Why did a shy 15 year old boy who had no thought of acting sign up for the drama class in high school. It is still a mystery to Keith, and the fact that he did so truly changed both of our lives.
-
Wonderful posts, I must say.
-
It is somewhat interesting and even heartening on the Facebook announcement for The Crucible how many people know the opera or didn't know it existed, in equal numbers, and how virtually no one knew of the previous CD release, which has been available for thirty YEARS now.
-
In one day?
Two. But he did the show on weekends in one. Matinee for part 1 and evening for part two.
-
Wow!
-
I actually cannot remember all that might have changed my life. In a couple of cases, teachers saved my life since my parents were too caught up with their own unhappiness to notice me. I don't think they changed my life; they saved my life.
When I was 9 in the summer of 1956, my family went to Kansas City, MO, where my dad attended a convention. One day, my mother, brother, another convention wife, and I went to a movie, The King and I. it was a major life changer: I discovered musical theatre and Rodgers and Hammerstein, and it moved my dinosaur obsession to the back burner.
When I was around 14, my Uncle Paul, who was in the American Legion, recruited me and my brother Macbeth to work at a refreshments booth in a fund-raising summer theatre project on the grounds of Old South School. The local community theatre was producing a faux-melodrama, Lily the Felon's Daughter, and live theatre became another obsession.
In winter 1979, the revival house in Symphony Space had a screening of The First Nudie Musical that so amused me I returned for the next showing and then spent the next day at The Drama Book Shop raving about it. That led to my contacting its creator Bruce Kimmel in 1992 or so, after my career had been short-circuited by a nasty little weasel on a big power trip. After the release of Unsung Sondheim and Liz Callaway's Frank Loesser album, my phone didn't stop ringing for a long long time.
Would that were still the case!

Same for the Royal Shakespeare Company's 8-hour Nicholas Nickleby!

Gratuitous Post #100!

Are you picking her up or is she being driven to you?
My niece is bringing her to my house at 3:30 today.
-
I'm listening to the samples of The Crucible (http://www.kritzerland.com/crucible.htm) and can't wait to hear the whole thing!
-
Are you picking her up or is she being driven to you?
My niece is bringing her to my house at 3:30 today.
If you have a small room without anyplace for her to hide under, it might be a good way for the two of you to bond before you let her have free roam of your home.

Just saw a mail truck so they must be delivering something?

Well, I thought that my extra bedroom was going to be cleaned yesterday with the expectation of being able to keep her in there for a while. That's the only room in my house with a door (other than the bathrooms), so it would've been perfect. Instead, my TV room was cleaned (not my decision) and my extra bedroom became the super storage room, so I don't (for now) have a room with a door. :-\
-
Wacky Noodles are being eaten and once again are yummilicious thanks to normal cream of mushroom soup - I can't imagine what they do to the "Healthy Choice" version, but it's horrible.

And on that note (D-natural), I'm leaving work and first, getting something to eat, then second, meeting my new cat at my newly (mostly) cleaned house!
Be back later!

Indiegogo up to 84% and we're exactly 2K away from our goal, although we really must go above that to cover fees and the outrageous amount of money that AEA requires for pension, health, etc. for our one actor, which equals an astonishing FIFTY percent of his salary - I should think that's somehow illegal and I'm trying to find out how they can do that exactly, but it's raised what I had budgeted by almost 1K.
-
Nice review, Druxy!

Glad to hear you found Annabelle, Larry!

Believe me, I've used up a couple of my own nine lives at such times of worry.
Okay, panic. :)

My evening just became free!
I was expecting a friend to come over to discuss this holiday musical thing we're doing over the month of December, but he ... um, can't find the music, and has to rummage through some closets.
So, tomorrow. Probably.
-
DR Elmore, do you still want to do storage box pickup/distribution on Thursday? I have Wednesday available, too, in case you're ready for it then, but they're equally fine for me.

Lucky you :)

I am glad I made an appointment with the orthopedist for Thursday. If I hadn't called today I would be kicking myself right now.

I gotta tell you.

Why I oughta...

The Debbie/Carrie auction continues - all I have to say is - people are INSANE.
-
DR George I hope your meet with Neve has gone well.
Thanks, Jane! It's going well. She's been exploring and has eaten, so that's good. Here's a picture:
-
And she just used the litter box! Whew!
;)
-
We're back from Virginia. I am exhausted
-
I did buy the Crucible.
-
I am not opera fan but I am a fan of the play so perhaps this will be the cd to bring me to love the genre
-
And she just used the litter box! Whew!
;)
That is always a relief.
Neve is beautiful and I am very pleased she is doing well.
-
Welcome home DR Vixmom.
-
When the Vixter was in college she took a chorus course and ended up being part of a concert which was held in the theatre of my college campus
-
We went to different campuses of the same school
-
While we were there I showed her a chair and explained that I had I not sat in that chair in September 1975 she would not have been born some 18 years later
-
Because I sat there I became friends with someone who introduced me to a young adults group where I met and became close friends with many people I would not have otherwise met
-
One of them introduced me to Vixdad

Nice story DR VIXMOM!
Wow DR GEORGE - Neve is a BIG cat!
-
Continued INDIEGOGO vibes for MR BK & LEVI!
-
I am loving everyone's stories.
-
Neve is a beautiful cat, George. Hope you two are very happy together.
-
Neve is beautiful. She's lucky she has you to love on for the rest of her life.
-
Watching Mike's Murder. It's not a very good movie, but the performances, especially Debra Winger and Paul Winfield, are really good. And the scenes of '80s LA are intriguing.
-
Took a break from Mike's Murder to watch the latest Poldark. Good stuff.
-
And she just used the litter box! Whew!
;)
That is always a relief.
Neve is beautiful and I am very pleased she is doing well.
Thanks, Jane!
-
I think I will play some CD's. I have to turn off ADAM'S RIB because David Wayne is so ANNOYING......
-

Glad to hear that Annabelle is safe and sound!

Wow DR GEORGE - Neve is a BIG cat!
Actually, she's not that big. I was close to her so it was more of a forced perspective situation. ;)

Good night, all.
-
Good night, John G. Just sent you an email.
-
What is this good night malarky?
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Listening to music.
-
Music I'm listening to.
-
When in doubt, listen to music.
-
Just had a fun and long telephonic conversation with Elizabeth Sherman. All is on track for Wednesday's event.

Good evening!
-
George, great photo.
-
Neve is a real beauty.
-
I had my doctor's appointment today.
-
I have three additional months of pain medication.
-
And he noticed my weight loss.
-
Lucky I skipped having Blue Bunny last night.
-
I had to have my urine tested today for drugs.
-
In this case, I passed the test because I have opiates in my system.
-
Once a year, state law requires a urine test to prove I am taking the pain medication prescribed to me, as opposed to selling the drugs on the street.

-
Waiting for my test, I was getting a cup of water out of the cooler, when I dropped the paper cup. I grabbed for it, and managed to break the scooter key off in the ignition.
-
Page seven? Really?
-
Notes are written and await posting, and I took a hot shower and am listening to music and relaxing.
-
Fortunately, it was quiet in the lab (just before lunch), because I soon had two lab techs and a receptionist all trying to get the broken key out.
-
Just when I was about to give up on the effort, one of the techs managed to extract the piece with some tweezers.
-
Luckily, I have a spare key on my key ring.
-
Tomorrow, I need to go out and get another spare key, just in case this should ever happen again.

George, great photo.
Thanks, Tom!
