Well, you've read the notes, the notes came and went like so much fish, and now it is time for you to post until the so much fish cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EARWORM!
-
First post after BK!
-
And the word of the day is: EARWORM!
The last time that I had a song stuck in my head was at the beginning of this month. I (fortunately) don't remember which song it was, but it was stuck in my head for two whole weeks! :P
-
Well, I need to go to bed. I have a whole day of stuff to do and I need to get some sleep so that I can do it all.
Good night, BK, and have a good day, all!
-
'night
-
Good morning, all!
-
I am a huge fan of John Rutter's vocal music. I have several Christmas albums with the Cambridge Singers and some of his published carol collections. I love the Hyperion recording of his Christmas music includes both traditional carols and his own compositions.
-
This morning I have to change the bulbs in the kitchen. Pray for Rosemary's baby.
-
It's rainy today. I doubt we will have any birds. I think Annabelle is acting out by knocking things off the tops of tables this morning.
-
I have to vacuum this morning after I empty the litter. I want to finish this piece by 2:00 if I can. A friend is dropping by to meet the babies and then we'll go out for coffee.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Glad to hear vixmom and vixdad are ensconced in the timeshare and having a delightful time. The meatloaf dinner sure sounded good!
-
Snowblower is still at the shop but it's supposed to be delivered back to me tomorrow or Tuesday. Today I'm going to spiff up the corner of the garage where it and the other power equipment goes. Should have had that done already, but hey.
-
HEY!
-
So who do I think I am? DR Ron Pulliam? And WHERE IS HE?
-
And where is DR MATTHEW?
-
I swear, you can't let these people off of their leash.
-
And where is DR MATTHEW?
DR Matthew is in Manhattan and told NO ONE!
-
I've had a succession of several nights in which my dreams have all been remarkably similar...just general "usual" scenarios, but all of it just background to the software and musical/computery stuff I've been concentrating on this past week: Finale, MainStage, a little Audacity, and of course getting to know the Mac.
So today, a little break from all that. Got other stuff to do around the house, and that's what this Sunday will be for.
-
And where is DR MATTHEW?
DR Matthew is in Manhattan and told NO ONE!
What the HELL!
-
Light bulbs changed, floors vacuumed, and on to the litter.
I've got to be more careful about the kitchen light now that Thatch and Annabelle are here. The work space on the ladder is narrow and I accidentally knocked the heavy colander off the shelf. It just missed Thatch, and it could have seriously injured him.
-
And where is DR MATTHEW?
DR Matthew is in Manhattan and told NO ONE!
What the HELL!
Exactly! His Facebook post says he's here for Broadwaycon this weekend.
-
And he hasn't logged in here since ... September??
-
Gosh, my fonts on HHW suddenly changed. Not worse or better, just changed!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Elmore, I’m taking your advice and starting on Cousin Bette. Loving it so far, except for the fact that there are no chapters. That seems long for 500 pages.
-
Well, Matthew, I hope you enjoy Broadwaycon.
-
And the word of the day is: EARWORM!
Arnold M. Brockman should provide us an example.
-
Don’t know whether to start a movie or take a nap.
-
Two!
-
Starting a movie might help you nap.
(At least i find that for myself at my age.)
-
Fred, excellent idea. Watched another Barbara Stanwyck, with Joan Blondell and Dan Duryea. Scary episode called Sign of the Zodiac. Lots of fun.
-
Elmore, some discount disc site is offering an Evans Haile recording of Herbert’s Orange Blossoms. Any good?

Jane, the pizza was great. I went to my favorite New York-style place. Thin crust, bright sauce, tangy artichoke slivers and salty anchovies, steaming hot from the oven — all I wanted it to be.
I ate the whole medium pie.

My memory is that it claims to be Herbert's orchestration, but there's no piano in the original. The orchestra is reduced and the conductor tops it all with this flashy busy piano work á la Liberace. There's a bit of bad acting as well from the cast.

Sunday morning greetings! 3/4 of our household is at church and I'm enjoying the solitude. I am showered and dressed and ready to organize the grocery trip that I didn't take yesterday because of the rain. Just glad it wasn't colder or we'd be snowed in today...
-
Thatch is medicated, and I gave him a treat after. I have no idea if this chicken flavoring cuts the taste of the medicine at all so he will get a treat every day after we play doctor.
-

That sounds different, and good. I'd like to try it at Pepe's (Connecticut/New Haven style). I don't know of any place around here that offers artichokes, but I'll remember that.

New Haven had great pizza. We often order artichokes on our pizza. I would be surprised if you can't find it.

Hi DR Michael.
-
I have been looking to get a new dog. I have been narrowing it down to Bichon Frise, Havanese, Havapoo and Petit Goldendoodle. Although the last one I am not sure of because it is a crossbreed of three different dogs and have to do more research on it.

Good morning / afternoon!

Robot for Sale
A father buys a lie detector robot that slaps people when they lie.
He decides to test it out at dinner one night.
The father asks his son what he did that afternoon.
The son says, "I did some schoolwork."
The robot slaps the son.
The son says, "Ok, Ok. I was at a friend's house watching movies."
Dad asks, "What movie did you watch ?"
Son says, "Toy Story."
The robot slaps the son.
Son says, "Ok, Ok, we were watching porn."
Dad says, "What ? At your age I didn't even know what porn was."
The robot slaps the father.
Mom laughs and says, "Well, he certainly is your son."
The robot slaps the mother.

A friend sent that joke to me, and since I hadn't heard it before, I passed it on to you.

Another dreary rainy day in Tacoma.

For now it might be slightly better here, not much though.

I do believe that I - Jrand67 - have solved 2/3rds of the mystery of the title of MR BK's new book.
Deduced by:
"....never been a BOOK by this title before....."
We have been asked for:
"....our favorite songs of the 1940's and Big Bands...."
"....does anyone know anyone at.....[publishing houses]....."
I think it's title is also the title or part of the title of a big band song....
That is the 1/3 I have NOT figured out yet.

Learning the score from a third-rate recording versus not learning the score at all?

elmore, be sure and give the kids a big hug from Uncle TCB!

These Barbara Stanwyck episodes are surprising. In the last one, Robert Horton chases Stanwyck into a closet with an ax. The shot of her is exactly the one Kubrick used later in The Shining. Very intense for TV of the time.

Good afternoon.
-
I hope we get some nice dog photos while you are searching, Michael.
-
Elmore, it looks like Daylight finally got adopted. He has been there since Christmas.
-
I'm up, I'm up - was up at ten-thirty, actually, but went next door to the garage sale and brought some clothes that I'm never EVER going to wear again.
-
Then I intended to make Wacky Noodles but I forgot to pick up sour cream, so instead I made about six ounces of penne with butter and cheese and onions - very good.
-
Now I'll continue proofing. Not sure if I'll go to the mail place or just wait until tomorrow.
-
Elmore's listening habits have inspired me. I'm now playing a DVD called Pavarotti: A Life in Seven Arias.
We'll see if J.B. likes it as much as the Rolling Stones.
-
I've returned from a lovely coffee visit with Ian, a former orchestration student. Thatch received from Amazon today a huge catnip fish, and he's completely puzzled and intrigued with it.
-
Hello, everyone.

Thatch received from Amazon today a huge catnip fish, and he's completely puzzled and intrigued with it.
Photos, please. It doesn't matter if they're a little blurry.
-
Last night I watched RAIN SHADOW, an Australian series about two female vets in rural Australia. It doesn't have the gorgeous sets and costumes of MISS FISHER or the quirky charm of BROKENWOOD, but it seems like a solid drama. I'll watch more.
-
I also watched BLACKLIST. I tried this show a couple years ago and didn't care for it. I'm giving it another try. At least I got through the first episode this time.
Does anyone here watch it?
-
So who do I think I am? DR Ron Pulliam? And WHERE IS HE?
Yes, where the heck is he?
Did he buy a new truck?
Is he doing well?
Inquiring minds want to know, Ron!

Gosh, my fonts on HHW suddenly changed. Not worse or better, just changed!
I've had that happen. Then they changed right back again. ???

Vibes to all.

My new surround sound receiver arrived today....one day after I paid for it.
It took me a LONG time to hook it up, because of course the wires to the rear speakers were behind everything.
HOWEVER the receiver looks brand new. The electrical cord still had the blue fastener on it, and the digital IN still had the little black insert in place.
Now all speakers work AND I don't have the annoying buzz or whatever was in the old one - which is waiting to be given to the TRASH man tomorrow. Many years of service - but it's time has come.
TAPS.....
-
We need photos of the garage sale clothes. Were your neighbors happy to meet you?

Today's show was sold out! We had to hold the house again to get everyone in. It's going really well, and they're very muchly enjoying it all. ;D

I like sellouts of the theatrical kind.

Wow, I completely missed this post and had to find out why there were comments regarding a dog.
-
I know people love Goldendooles. In my opinion, unless you are rescuing, they are outrageously priced for a mutt. I think temperament wise they are much calmer than Labradoodles. There is no guarantee they will not shed.
-
I don't know anything about Havapoo's but the price for a mutt could be the same. This pup sure is a cutie.
-
Keith and I are a bit prejudice against Bijou's as my sister had a rather obnoxious one. Of course it could have been obnoxious because of my sister and not typical of the breed ;D
-
People seem to like their Havanese and the few I have met were very friendly.
-
DR Michael, if you are looking to purchases, vs adopt, any of these breeds go to the national website and read what tests the parents should have had. One major problem with the designer dogs is that the parents have not had appropriate health checks and tests before breeding. Of course many "backyard" or in it for the money breeders also do not do the appropriate tests.
-
I finally finished season three of Garrow's Law. I really enjoyed it.

Today we went to the Kiggins Theater to see "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".

Ushered for the youth orchestra. Fun program that was a just right 70 minutes. The Candide Overture, a new PDQ Bach piece and Kodaly’s Hary Janos Suite. The last was my favorite.
-
Following the film, our first time at this old theater, we walked over to the Mexican restaurant. I had bean taquitos with guacamole and rice.

Sorry. I'm not. The awards I'd be interested inare off camera.

I'm off to bed., Good night, everyone!

I cleaned out TWO drawers in my old computer desk....that now holds some DVD's and the DVD player, the Blu Ray Player, the sound receiver, the HD Cable Box, and several VHS tapes.
I threw away a garbage bag full of instruction manuals and store receipts from electronics I no longer have....the oldest was from 1990.....and some cords, etc. I saved one of each KIND of cord, but threw MANY away.....
You can't even see the result, but I KNOW the drawers are in good shape.
-
Same with me and the Oscars DR ELMORE....they come back from a commercial and have given out two more awards.....

Very good guesses but incorrect. I can only tell you that my original tries at titles in the old version of this idea were all other books, sometimes multiple other books and they were too ordinary, frankly. The song quoted in the book was a fleeting idea for an alternate, but Muse Margaret from the second I told her the title was in love with it, and the alternate has been the title of several books :)

RIP film composer John Morris.
-
Five!
-
The Pavarotti disc doesn't seem to be working properly. I may have to watch it in the computer. Bummer.

Went to a mostly vegetarian restaurant tonight. I told the waitress I didn't want the sweet and sour brussels sprouts, because of the sweet. She promised a sriracha sauce, but the dish was still sweet.
I ordered a main course because the first ingredient listed on the menu was broccolini. Instead I got a plate that was like a frozen vegetable medley with broccoli. No seasoning. Little flavor. I mentioned the broccolini/broccoli to the waitress and it was as if I were speaking a foreign language. She conveyed the message to the kitchen. When she came back, she did apologize and offered a $5 gift card for my return visit.
Even the fortune in the fortune cookie was lame: Start your engines. Eat breakfast.
I don't think I'll be returning.
-
Just watched Patti LuPone on youtube from the Grammys. She's still got it.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished proofing part one of the new book. I'm very happy with this book so far. Muse Margaret and I had a conversation about a few little nitpicks and decided on which to do.
-
Now it's time for a shower. I made some scrambled eggs and onions for my evening snack.
-
Page five? Really?
-
How was the movie DR JANE?
I was not expecting it to be such a dark dark comedy. I think it deserves the nominations it received.
Discussing the movie at dinner I was relieved to find I wasn't the only one having trouble at times understanding what was said. The problem was the sound system in the theater, not the actors or "background" music. We all felt the actors expressed what they were feeling and saying without our hearing.

What a shame as there are so few restaurants that offer a good vegetarian selection. I am not sure what a frozen medley tastes like but it doesn't sound good, not that I would have ordered broccolini.

Ushered for the youth orchestra. Fun program that was a just right 70 minutes. The Candide Overture, a new PDQ Bach piece and Kodaly’s Hary Janos Suite. The last was my favorite.
Tonight after Communicating Doors and stopping for a moment at my parents' house, I ushered for comedian Jim Breuer, who was on Saturday Night Live years ago. I didn't know what to expect and wondered if he would be rude and blue for the sake of being rude and blue, but he wasn't at all. He was really funny! :D
-
His act was about his life and growing older and turning fifty, and he told jokes about all sorts of subjects. He definitely has honed his craft. He used the microphone for sound effects in a way that I'd never seen before. I really enjoyed his act, and the almost 800 people in the audience did, too!
-
I must be as uninformed as your waitress, because I have no idea what broccolini is. It sounds like a medical condition.

I set my DVR to record them, but evidently I didn't set it to record more than the expected time. My recording ended right at four hours, and it wasn't enough time! It was longer than four freakin' hours! :o

Just watched Patti LuPone on youtube from the Grammys. She's still got it.
She sure does! I specifically watched that section when I got home tonight. I didn't love Ben Platt's interpretation of "Somewhere." I didn't hate it, but it was definitely very...stylized.
