I have no idea , I can't remember not eating them....my favorites meatball Parmesan, eggplant Parmesan, chicken Parmesan (why do try call it Parmesan when invariably they use mozzarella?)turkey with Swiss, lettuce, red onion, shredded lettuce, oil & vinegar and salt and pepper, and the one I ate constantly when expecting the Vixter: hot roast beef with melted muenster and just a little salt

I've been reading Cleveland Amory's The Cat Who Came For Christmas, about the 1977 Christmas Eve when he rescued a white cat he named Polar Bear.  Amory was a huge animal rights advocate.  Polar Bear died in 1992.  Amory, who died six years later, is buried beside him.

I am enjoying it immensely.

LOL, Druxy.  I'm only 57, but I can't recall stuff like that either, unless I wrote it down at the time, which I'm glad I did about some important things!  So glad and lucky the Topic of the Day is optional.  :)

Dum-de-dum-dum . . . yes. ;)

In the accounting/tax world, so many firms that (I'd thought illegally, but I guess not) don't want to train "old" people treat 57 as just days away from retirement.  :)  Luckily, there's no such bias in the arts world.

At 84, he's still seen as a sexual threat to a 30-year-old chorus singer, by making crude remarks.  So 84 is still seen as vital!

Only is accurate to me.

here's a line in one of the songs Skip will have in his 54 Below show next Monday where the singer sings, "I'm only in my twenties, too young to be retired" that the singer has been rehearsing here.

And there's also an ad on TV for Medicare, where a rather young-looking lady says "I'm only in my sixties."

I always conflate them when I see that ad think she should be saying, "I'm only in my sixties, too young to be retired."  (The actress looks SO young.)

TOD:
I couldn't tell you what was the first submarine sandwich I ever had. But my favorite place for subs was a place on Venice beach called Warners. They were very much a family-run business, and their sandwiches were made on the best french rolls I ever had. At one point they added tongue and head cheese to their menu. I loved the tongue, but the two new sandwiches left as quickly as they came because no one else was buying them, ha!
Unfortunately, Warners is long gone - I used to go there in the late 80s.

I'm here late this morning.

I had no sooner gotten up than I was told that some white stuff was heading our way.  Fortunately, no big deal this morning -- but it was a good reminder that I had to get down to the vet's office to pick up Poe's prescription food before tomorrow...when we ARE getting some kind of a mess that WILL be some kind of big deal.

So I ran out and did that while it flurried, and decided I'd best stop at the grocery store for BREAD AND MILK  just a few things I needed for the next couple of days.  So that's done, too.  The gods left about a quarter of an inch on the driveway which I'll now go out and blow off, hopefully, with the leaf blower, so we don't pack more of it down driving over it.   Oy!

TOD....surely you meant a hoagie, vixmom....
Title: Re: REVISIONS, REVISIONS
Post by: ChasSmith on February 06, 2018, 08:32:26 AM
For a food question, this is a tough one for me.  I have no idea what my first one was, where I might have been, or under which name it went.
(Sub, hero, hoagie, grinder, and I think po' boy is similar....)

The reason I threw "hoagie" up to vixmom is that one of the most memorable ones I ever had was a delicious Italian hoagie in Philadelphia.  And I can even tell you when.  It was in the year 1983, and I swear (there I go again) I haven't had one to equal it.

But I love 'em, even while it's not something I think to get very often because they can be so messy, depending on what you load them up with.

Title: Re: REVISIONS, REVISIONS
Post by: ChasSmith on February 06, 2018, 08:37:58 AM
Not sure, but I think "grinder" implies hot meats and such, more than the veritable plethora of items a sub might contain.

And then there's the cheesesteak.  OMG.  When I discovered these (again, in Philadelphia, also in 1983) I was in heaven.  Having suffered several disappointing attempts, I rarely get one anywhere except in Philly, or at least close by, because for my taste they so rarely come close to the real thing.

I always thought about submarine sandwiches the way I first thought about pizza pies.

However - a subway shop opened in the mall where I worked - and I had one for lunch one day - turkey, roast beef, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, and cheese....

And I still love to eat them when I can.  We have a Subway here in town but it is on the MOST difficult corner in town to pull into and drive away from, so I rarely have one there.

There’s a New Jersey pizza joint in town that is said to import the water for its doughs and bread from New York. They have a cold Italian sub that’s served warm. There’s nothing special about its iceberg lettuce, tomato slices and onions or it’s salami, cold cuts and cheese. But all together, it’s one beautiful sandwich

I have a vague recollection of going to a party in my early teens and having a long sub sandwich cut up in smaller portions.  Except for the size I was unimpressed.

I have rarely had one I actually enjoyed and I find the smell of Subway yucky.

In the funny small facebook world.....

My friend Mitch shared the post...."If YOU want to see more posts from more than 25 of your (Facebook) friends,......"

On Mitch's page I was talking to a guy named Blair Tindall.

Seconds later former DR Jose shared the same story and there was Blair making the same comment it is a hoax.

Since Mitch, whom I went all through school with, is also a musician a asked if that was the connection.

I am guessing some of you know who Blair is.  I didn't know by her name.

I am home from the afternoon rehearsal, and I suspect tonight's dress rehearsal will run even better/  I had a great time and I am curious to see how it goes over.  There are some wonderful performances, beginning with Carolee Carmello and Wildcat and ending with Bebe Neuwirth's two numbers from Sail Away.  There's a nice unannounced guest star appearance at the very end.

I hope it's a huge success; there was so much negativity when the season was announced.

I am home from the afternoon rehearsal, and I suspect tonight's dress rehearsal will run even better/  I had a great time and I am curious to see how it goes over.  There are some wonderful performances, beginning with Carolee Carmello and Wildcat and ending with Bebe Neuwirth's two numbers from Sail AwayThere's a nice unannounced guest star appearance at the very end.

I hope it's a huge success; there was so much negativity when the season was announced.

Not to let the cat out of the bag, but ....... Annabelle?

No.  I refuse to let her audition.

I’ve gotten knee deep in a few books lately, including Balzac’s Cousin Bette. Was there ever such a cast of characters so relentlessly ugly? They’re worse than characters in an Agatha Christie mystery. And I’m loving every word.

If you've never seen the Margaret Tyzack-BBC production, rent it.  It's very well cast.

I loved it.

The word is that Dad will be able to go home after he heals and if there is home health care.

This is great.  Do they have any idea how long that will be?  I am hoping the sores were caught early.  I knew people in the nursing home that couldn't get rid of them and I volunteered there for a very long time :(

No idea. The doctor is more concerned about bruises from his having fallen. Apparently the sores are healing quickly.

I missed the part where he fell  :-\

I am glad the sores are healing.  I have seen some really nasty ones.

Listen to me very carefully.  As you know the sheep of Facebook have been doing this copy and paste so that the same twenty-six people don't keep showing up on the feed.  This has been going on for days and I called BS the minute I saw it - but that doesn't stop everyone from being a sheep on Facebook.  So, let me straighten it out for you and you can thank me later: If you see a post that says "copy and paste" it is FAKE.  BOGUS.  A HOAX.  NOT REAL.  There is no discussion on this point, period, the end.  This has been going on for years, only the content changes.  But NOW it's even worse because some sickening moron posted that Snopes said it's real and now the copy and pasting of it has quadrupled with everyone saying "Snopes says it's real."  But not one person who is saying that has actually BEEN to Snopes.  What is wrong with people on Facebook that it turns them into complete dopes?  Seriously, I need someone to tell me because I don't get it.

So, here for the non-believers is what I've been saying since the first time someone copy and pasted:  https://www.snopes.com/new-facebook-algorithm-26-friends/

It has no truth in it at all.  They changed their algorithm but it has not a thing to do with what people are copy and pasting about seeing only certain friends' posts.  It has to do with business ads and seeing less of them.  I posted the Snopes article.  Read it.

Even more annoying is to share false group messages through Messenger.  Every time a person in the group responds how horrible the false message is, each person in the group receives another message.  It continues even after I respond it is a hoax.

On my computer it isn't too bad and there is a way to opt out of the group.  From my phone or tablet I can't see to do that.  It is truly annoying & embarrassing if my phone beeps in public, unsafe if I am driving.  On my tablet it pops up that I have a message while I am trying to read at night  >:(

Actually it is Keith's phone that beeps messages but he keeps it on for important ones.  Messages, to me, are for private conversations, not junk.  It is why I haven't completely turned off the message notification on my tablet.  I do keep the sound off on it as not to disturb Keith at night.  I turned off all other, or everything else I could figure out how to turn off, on my tablet.  It had become rather busy across the top of my screen when I was reading.

Really embarrassing, and has forced me to turn off my phone, are the group text messages.  My friend sends out photos or something to all his close family & friends.  He has gotten better which means he is doing it less or has remembered I complain about them.

Ten people responding and my phone making a noise every time.

OK, end of rants.

Maybe you could get a smart watch and pair it with your phone or tablet.  I have one and every time I get a notice (FB, text, etc.), it goes to my watch, which I feel very easily.  I can have the sound and vibrations completely turned off on my phone and the watch will still (silently) vibrate on my wrist, and display what kind of message I get and display the first couple of lines.  Very convenient...at least, for me. :)

Fortunately, I rarely receive spam phone calls.  I just don't answer those.  I don't think I've ever gotten any kind of junk message text.  I don't have my phone set up to get my e-mails, so I don't get notices for those.
