Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like deli - extra lean, and now it is time for you to post until the extra lean cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BERCEUSE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Good morning, all!
-
It's a dark and rainy day. I would prefer to sleep in but there are babies to be fed and the results of their enthusiastic play to be tidied for the next round.
-
Good morning, all.
-
After I've tidied up, taken care if the litter, and sorted through the cat food cans, I need to finish organizing my receipts and clean off my desk. I've got to organize the work for Me and My Girl and How to Succeed . . .
-
I would prefer to sleep in, too, but I’ve got a busy day. After church, there’s a funeral for a friend’s husband who died from abdominal cancer, then I’m ushering for something. I remember the time, not the event.
-
First, coffee!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Another late-ish start to the morning, which is always welcome. When this happens I get to enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee in the recliner while the boys wait “patiently” for their breakfast. They know it’s coming, so they aren’t as ornery as when they’re getting me up on a typical day (not necessarily in Dogpatch). But these two mornings they’ve let me sleep in.
-
And now I have to decide, DRs, whether to attend the closing matinee today of ONCE which a couple of friends are involved in. I never saw the movie or the stage version, and will be going in about as ignorant of it as is humanly possible. And the theater’s an hour away. Do I have the enthusiasm and energy for it today? No. But I think I need to take the opportunity.
-
Good morning to all
-
So...it’s the first community theatre production in the country, at the beautiful Warner (note to vixmom: Ragtime), and it’s in the hands of a couple of our better director/music directors. The talent looks great and I’m in on a cast discount, so I guess it’s a no-brainer. This thing had flown under my radar, but I’ve got a very busy week ahead and I think I’d best get my ASS up there.
-
TCB - That is interesting. Still hoping for the best about 5th Avenue Theatre logic: so could it be they want to make sure that at those when they have a really hot ticket, they're not bought up by computer systems. And the system they put in place has to be there for all their shows.
Otherwise, it is confusing.
Their corporate culture has always seemed so people-friendly, certainly under Mr. Armstrong (who I guess is leaving after a long time).
-
We watched THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM last night, recorded from TCM.
I'd never seen it before.
Terrible print that badly needs to be restored, and watching a 3-camera Cinerama movie flat is certainly disconcerting.
The movie itself was just so-so, and the section featuring Terry-Thomas and Buddy Hackett was almost painful to watch.

ONCE was one of the most magical and moving musicals I have seen. The film's nice, but the show was a lesson in how to adapt a movie to stage.
Is this the production in Northport at the Engeman? My friend Douglas, who was in the reading of MOONSHINE & MISTLETOE at the York is in it.

I hope the service is comforting.
If you can't remember both, better the time than the event.
-
Sending energy vibes to DR TCB!
-
I think everyone should see ONCE at least once.
-
I try to avoid High School productions....but sometimes I have to go.
-
I am watching The Seven Samurai.....it is a very good movie.

Fond memories of SAMURAI NIGHT FEVER on SNL 40 or 50 years ago!

Bruce might you approach this talented student in the show last night to work in one of your shows?

Yes you should go and with a little more notice I would have invited myself along!!

Oh Elmore that is going on out here on Long Iskand... Do you think you could manage the LIRR out here if I get tickets to one of the Sunday matinees?

I would really love to see it with you, but I've got two complications: two cats who love to be fed on time if possible and I'm too crippled to wander comfortably into unfamiliar territory. You should go and give Douglas my best. It's such a wonderful show.

Berceuse me, what did you say?
LOL!
-
I've offered the ton of cat food Annabelle and Thatch refuse to eat to several rescue groups and Magnificat Cat Rescue is the only group to respond so far.
-
I have a new addiction: frozen cold-pressed coffee bars.
-
Annabelle has been booked for a Feb. 20 session with Dr Mohr. She will have otoscopic and oral exams to check for polyps. I will drop her off by 9:00 and pick her up when it's over. I hope it's not dreadful, like Thatch's dropoff day.
This morning, I gave him and Annabelle some bits of Virginia ham, which he loves. I had given him a piece, which he gobbled up, and then he jumped on my hand to steal the piece Annabelle was just about to take from me. To make Annabelle happy, we did two strolls to the fourth floor this morning.

;D
I understand why now that you mention what you lost to.

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep. I needed it.

I worry about it. The last time I dropped off a cat, I was told he would die of heart disease.
-
Magnificat just asked for my phone number; they will call me tomorrow about picking up the food. It's about 75-90 cans of cat food. I hope it helps them out.

Sunday evening greetings! I have been E & T today for a couple of delightful reasons. Richard and I attended niece Rev. Amy’s church this morning for Scout Sunday. Her husband is assistant Scoutmaster and both sons are Scouts. They all were pleased to see us, especially Uncle Richard in uniform. We also got to visit with Lauren and her family, as they were arriving for second service as we were leaving the first.
-
We got home in time for me to do the morning paper crossword and have a bite to eat before being picked up by my friend Sharon. She and her husband have season tickets for Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park and he’s sick with bronchitis. So I got to use his ticket for MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, directed by Hunter Foster. It was a fun afternoon and nice to catch up with Sharon - hadn’t seen her since before Christmas.

Hunter is Sutton Foster's brother and a very talented gentleman. Before the overrated and overproduced Frank Wildhorn's flop Bonnie and Clyde, Hunter wrote a B&C musical that I caught at NYMF around 2007. It was very good.

My friend Jeffrey posted this on his FB page tonight:
Tonight, waiting for the F train by Bryant Park, a homeless kid, maybe late 20’s, and a little worse for wear, asked this couple sitting next to me, with several grocery bags from Whole Foods, if they could spare any food to eat.
The woman, maybe late-30’s, immediately said no, and rudely told him to get away and leave them alone.
Here is the fun part. She turned to me and said, “can you believe this. They need to lock these people up it’s their choice to be on the street. It shouldn’t be ours.”
Without missing a beat, I said, “I’ve actually been homeless for a year and a half. I sleep on the E train at night. I haven’t eaten in almost two days.”
To which she said, “ you don’t look like one of them. You look normal and clean.” I just shrugged and said I found the clothes I have on, and then looked like I was going to cry. And, I swear you can’t make this s**t up, she reached into her Whole Food bag and gave me chicken salad, a sandwich and something to drink. Then the mann with her proceeded to hand me a $10 bill.
I said, “Thank you. But you really shouldn’t judge people based on how they look or only help those who look like you.” Then I called the kid over and gave him the food and the $10.
The gall and inhumanity of people just astounds me.
You don’t want to someone, you don’t need to belittle them or treat them like they aren’t a human being. Say “no, I’m sorry.” Or if you can, buy them a sandwich. But to degrade them because they’re struggling is unnecessary, not to mention vile and appalling.
Frankly, I’d happily choose to spend time with many of the homeless folks I’ve come to know over some of those who consider themselves the right kind of people.
The men and women on the street or in shelters need compassion and empathy. At the very least they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
-
There was a scout color guard at the funeral I attended today. Phil had been scoutmaster and rescued a dying troop from folding.
-
Hunter Foster wrote a very nice version of Summer of ‘42.
-
Thanks for sharing that story, Elmore. I try to keep a few meals in plastic bags in the car to hand out on street corners. They usually have a bottle of water, some toiletries, a few cans of food that can be eaten cold, power bars and the like. About 10 years ago, I got the folks in the food pantry to make them up for all to distribute. I may have to start doing it myself as the interest has begun to wane.

:o Is that what you lost to?
It was billed as chicken chili...WITH CARROTS? it was a chicken stew I to which some chili peppers were added
-
We lost the chili cook-off. daughter-father entries took first and second respectively.
-
Stage actress Jan Maxwell died.

He’s a Michigan grad (as is his sister) and I think Becki and I saw him as Leo Bloom in THE PRODUCERS on Broadway.

Annabelle has been booked for a Feb. 20 session with Dr Mohr. She will have otoscopic and oral exams to check for polyps. I will drop her off by 9:00 and pick her up when it's over. I hope it's not dreadful, like Thatch's dropoff day.
Vibes for Annabelle, and you.
I worry about it. The last time I dropped off a cat, I was told he would die of heart disease.
Vibes this diagnosis is much better. If there are polyps will they be removed while Annabelle is already sedated?
-

Wow, that is a lot of cat food they wouldn't eat. I think it is great it will be picked up from you.

Watching the Olympics - the ending of the team ice skating event....USA is in third place, and it will likely stay there - which is okay.....
-
We went for a walk this morning then out to lunch with friends. After lunch we went to the old Kiggins Theater to watch the 8 Oscar nominated shorts. I have two favorites, "Negative Space" and "Lou".
-
After the movie we went out for ice cream.
-
Once home we went for a walk.
-
There was a scout color guard at the funeral I attended today. Phil had been scoutmaster and rescued a dying troop from folding.
I will have to google for a video of a scout color guard. It sounds moving.

Good evening!

Page 3?

I went to dinner with friends to Uno Pizzeria. I had the thin crust pizza. I used to love the deep dish "spinoccoli" pizza but haven't had deep dish in quite a while.
-
After torrential rain this morning and afternoon, the temp went to the high 60's today. Too warm for February!
-
Sorry to hear about Jan Maxwell. I thought she was very good in Follies.
-
I'm enjoying the Levi CD. I'm so glad I was able to see the show (twice).
-
Vibes for TCB!
-
Vibes for DR elmore and Annabelle!
-
A few days ago I looked on the Kennedy Center website for tickets for "Chess," which will be playing only a few days. It said "sold out." Yesterday I checked and there were lots of tickets. I'm glad I didn't give up. I have a nice ticket for next Sunday's matinee. Raul Esparza, Ramin Karimloo, Bryce Pinkham, Karen Olivo and Ruthie Ann Miles star.

When we ate at their restaurants, years ago, I don't think they even had a thin crust pizza.

I hope so!

I'm up, I'm up - oh, wait...
-
Had Islands for lunch.
-
Before that I finished entering all that I could enter.
-
Then I ran the rest by Muse Margaret and we made our decisions, then I entered those, so proofer one is done with and later tonight I'll being entering what I can of proofer two and notating what needs to be discussed with Muse Margaret. We'll have that conversation tomorrow, and then I get proofer three's hard copy tomorrow and will go through that. So by Wednesday we should be all proofed and entered and I'll send it to Grant.
-
After the movie we went out for ice cream.
What flavors?
-
Tonight's dinner was pork chops stuffed with sautéed onions, mushrooms, cranberries and apples
I missed dinner tonight. Please ship me any leftovers.

I ushered for a San Antonio tricentennial event. The Youth Orchestra and the Youth Symphonic Winds as well as the San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet. It was a mixed bag. The Symphonic Winds did a bang-up job with the Barber Commando March and a suite from The Bartered Bride. The ballet danced to recorded music and it was not pretty. The youth symphony made a mess of a Glinka piece. But everyone did well with Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez.
-
There are 450 musicians in the various groups that make up the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, or YOSA.
In May, all 450 will be playing together for what they call YOSApalooza.
-
That should be fun.

Stage actress Jan Maxwell died.
Oh, no! :(
-
I found this article: Jan Maxwell Has Died; Five-Time Tony Nominee Praised ‘Law & Order’ In New York Times (http://deadline.com/2018/02/jan-maxwell-has-died-five-time-tony-nominee-1202285871/).
-
Here's the first paragraph:
Jan Maxwell, a supremely gifted comic actress whose five Tony Award nominations included two in the same season, died today of cancer, her son, William Maxwell-Lunny, confirmed. She was 61.

Read the first 75 pages of an Emile Zola novel called His Excellency. It’s the first novel I’ve read on my new Kindle. I’m not sure I’m used to it, though. I had to start the book with an old-fashioned paper book to get into it.
But that translation was old and out of date. The new translation is available only in e-reader format for a few more months. But I’m part of an online group that’s reading it now, so I had to going on it before I’m due to summarize a chapter.

I've been home all day, doing not much of anything.
-
I did get a load of laundry done, so that's something.
;)

Entered as much as I could, and there isn't actually that much to run by Muse Margaret, so I'm hoping if I get the other proofer's hard copy early enough we can just go through it all and be done with it.

Good evening.

Hi, George.
-
Right now I'm watching a documentary that a co-worker told me about: Searching for Sugar Man (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008JFUTT0/). Here's tye synopsis from the Amazon listing:
SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN tells the incredible true story of Rodriguez, the greatest ‘70s rock icon who never was. After being discovered in a Detroit bar, Rodriguez’s sound struck 2 renowned producers and they signed a recording deal. But when the album bombed, the singer disappeared into obscurity. A bootleg recording found its way into apartheid South Africa and over the next two decades, he became a phenomenon. The film follows the story of two South African fans who set out to find out what really happened to their hero.
I'm really enjoying it! It won the 2013 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Do we have any lawyers in this joint? If not a lawyer, I will settle for anyone who has watched THE PEOPLE’S COURT and / or PERRY MASON.

Hi, Tom.
-
I want to sue The Diet Coke Company.
-
They have stolen my personal slogan.
-
They have stolen my personal slogan.
What??
-
The new Diet Coke slogan is ”Because I can.”
-
Since we are soon to be the most popular site on the Web, I have no doubt that someone from Diet Coke spotted the slogan here, and stole it

Good night, George.
