Well, you've read the notes, the notes were grand, and now it is time for you to post until the grand cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GOLDILOCKS!
-
And it was pouring rain earlier.

First post after BK!

~~~Merde-Be-Not-Too-Terrible Vibes for BK!!~~~
-
Well, I'm off to bed. Last night, it took me longer than usual to fall asleep, so I want a chance to get more sleep tonight.
Good night and have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I will leave soon for my epidural. It's a schlep to the East Side. The cats are fed, the birds are fed, and I need to make the bed and empty the litter before I go.
-
After my friend Chris picks me up, I will take him to breakfast. Then I will head to the orchestra reading for Grand Hotel on the other side of town. I told Joshie I hoped to be there by 12:30 or so.
-
I'm very tired. I got up at 3:00, had a snack and took my morning meds since IU cannot eat six hours before the procedure. When I got back to bed, Annabelle ad Thatch joined me. Annabelle slept on my feet and Thatch curled up at my side where he licked my fingers and gave me love bites before he settled down.
Best vibes for DRs Elmore and vixmom on their medical adventures today! And for TCB feeling better fast! And for anyone else I missed!
Is anybody having a major glitch with FB this morning...when you do a "Search"?
Getting up for a snack isn't something I would want to do. Is it a must do for you to keep your sugar levels in balance?
Tuesday morning greetings! Richard and I had a nice outing yesterday and I went to a very civilized AAUW board meeting in the evening. I spent the time at home in between at my craft desks making some beautiful cards.
Is anybody having a major glitch with FB this morning...when you do a "Search"?
I only checked after reading this and did not have a problem.
Ditto to all that!
Regarding FB, it's time for A Major Announcement. (That's kind of like A Major Award, but possibly even more exciting.)
There have been too many instances in the past several months of my not knowing something going on with friends or events which concern me, all due to my historical refusal to participate in the world of social media other than having a FB account for linking with half a dozen friends from high school and following a few groups. I still have a mighty disdain for the culture because of the monster it is and the way so many people use it. But after much thought, I'm dipping my toes back in the water to give it a more serious try.
All of which means I'm about to do something shocking, shocking. I'm going to "friend" a few people from each of the areas of my life and see how it goes, and I shall begin right here by giving BK and a few of you the first honors. Please be gentle.
-
DR CHAS SMITH - I have found that FACEBOOK is an invaluable tool when working on a show. When I direct a show, I always create a Closed Group for the cast & Staff.....you have immediate contact with them....and I usually post my rehearsal notes there instead of keeping them later in the night.
As a social tool, it can be very annoying....but you can make it work for you.
-
I enjoyed reading about the Robby Awards....I love to attend Awards Presentations.....I enjoy watching them on television less and less....
To put it in musical comedy terms, Ephraim, I have decided to rejoin the human race.
Ha. Excellent, DR FJL.
And yes, DR Jrand67, I certainly hope to "manage" it to the best of my ability.
C'mon in, DR ChasSmith, the water's fine. One of my favorite techniques for dealing with the "noise:" When a friend shares someone else's post that I don't like, I don't unfriend my friend. But you can click on the little dots in the upper right hand corner of your friend's post and get the option to "Hide all from..." and stop seeing the source of the original post. I don't care what my friends like/share, but I don't need to see all of it.
-
An excellent tip, DR Ginny. Thank you.
-
Interesting mention, Jrand, that people discuss the guys who have had many marriages.
I've wondered if stars kidded for having many marriages and divorces (Liz Taylor, ZsaZsa, Johnny Carsn) had simply never married but switched significant others every two or three or four years, if anything at all would have been made of the jumping from one to the other.
I often hide posts I don't want to see but never thought about doing that with the original "shared from". I searched for something to test this on and saw I had the option to do it for 30 days or always.
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
Re Facebook - I'm waiting for my ChasSmith friend request. Here's the problem with Facebook and it's easy to avoid: The people who ultimately get ridiculous on Facebook are the people who somehow think Facebook is all about them. Nope. Facebook is best used for keeping in touch with family, I suppose, but mostly for promotional purposes is what it's very useful for. I rarely post anything other than that and rarely post there about anything before posting here, where it really IS about all of us because we don't have algorithms and ads and all that BS. Facebook is not what it started out to be - adults weren't even allowed on it - now the kids wouldn't be caught dead on Facebook because it's been overrun with too many wacky needy adults (not any of us, of course, but certainly I would have to say some former dear readers would fall into that category, people who no longer come here because they think they've made Facebook all their own), too much politics and me, me, me, and some stuff clearly "borrowed" from this here message board - the proliferation of folks asking for vibes is funny to me, because that started with one of our former dear readers doing it and it was picked up on). Kids have moved onto other things - adults have even taken over Instagram now. It's hilarious - these especially older folks a decade or two ago wouldn't have been caught dead with a cell phone or on Facebook, and today it's all they do. Kids used to be the cell phone abusers in theaters - now it's all the older folks and especially the really older folks, who literally cannot put their phones down. So, my advice to ChasSmith is - be gentle with Facebook and use it wisely and you'll be okay. Do NOT get sucked into things because you'll find you cannot win - trolls are everywhere, bots are everywhere, and obnoxious people are everywhere. I've taken too many fools on and it turns out they are trolls or fake accounts run by bots, and that stuff is a complete waste of anyone's time.
-
Good point DR FJL....
-
many wacky needy adults
You don't have to sell me any more than that. Sounds like a lot of fun! :) Can I just somehow filter out the ones who are evil, destructive and nasty?
-
I forgot a couple of cast albums yesterday:
Chicago
New Girl in Town
Or maybe those fit in today's category.
-
Since no one has mentioned it, one of the greatest cast albums ever made - The Most Happy Fella. The only downside of that magnificent complete cast album is it isn't in stereo.
And limit who you accept. In the beginning I had many invites from friends of friends I wish I had not accepted. Many of these people I enjoy very much and it has been interesting meeting them. Others are ok. My main problem is I have more friends than I wish I had.
-
As with this group here, I have now met a number of my new friends from facebook in person and it has been a rewarding experience.
As with this group here, I have now met a number of my new friends from facebook in person and it has been a rewarding experience.
Anyone recall this line spoken by Audrey Hepburn in "Charade": (might apply to having too many friends) :)
I already know an awful lot of people, so until one of them dies I couldn't possibly meet anyone else
-
I thought I remembered it, and yes, here it is on IMDb:
Peter Joshua: Do we know each other?
Reggie Lampert: Why, do you think we're going to?
Peter Joshua: How would I know?
Reggie Lampert: Because I already know an awful lot of people, so until one of them dies I couldn't possibly meet anyone else.
Peter Joshua: Well, if anyone goes on the critical list, let me know.
-
Another favorite line from last night's opening remarks. I was introducing my co-host and said for the first time in Robby Awards history two people of the same gender are co-hosting. I then asked if it was still okay to say gender because I never know what words are in or out. Then I said, "I think I'm what they call a cis-gender or I identify as a cis-gender although I have no idea what that means and actually at my age gender is irrelevant." :)
DR Swishy was able to take one baby home today :)
I am very tired and I am home. The orchestra for Grand Hotel sounds great and it was nice to see friends I hadn't seen in some time/
The procedure went well, although they were running ate and I could have left the apartment nearly 30 minutes later.
I enjoyed reading about the Robby Awards....I love to attend Awards Presentations.....I enjoy watching them on television less and less....
Every year, the Olympia Film Society (http://olympiafilmsociety.org/) hosts an Academy Awards Oscars Party (http://olympiafilmsociety.org/90th-academy-awards/), where the Oscars are streamed live and you watch the show on the big screen with an audience. People get dressed up and walk the red carpet and all that. My friend Margo has gone several time, but for some reason, I've never gone. And this year, there will be an actual Academy Award statue at the event! That's pretty cool!
-
Since I have NO cable hooked up here yet, I'm going to rely on this here site for the Oscar night goodies.
-
I'm planning on being home on Oscar night.
ChasSmith, should we call you DollySmith now?
Do I Hear a Waltz?
Robert and Elizabeth
Applause
Sweeney Todd
Destry Rides Again
She Loves Me
Silk Stockings
It's really cold here and looks like rain.
I only listed the cast recordings I think have good sound or are ones I particularly love. I think Columbia always had the best sound, and I cannot believe I left out COMPANY, MY FAIR LADY, KISMET, KISS ME KATE, ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, THE SONG OF NORWAY, and THE MOST HAPPY FELLA.
Other Columbia almost-cast or studio cast recordings I love include:
BRIGADOON
CINDERELLA (Julie Andrews)
WONDERFUL TOWN
ON THE TOWN
RCA:
NEW GIRL IN TOWN
TAKE ME ALONG
REDHEAD
HELLO, DOLLY!
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
SWEENEY TODD
SEVENTEEN
The Lincoln Center recordings of CAROUSEL, KISMET, and ANNIE GET YOUR GUN
Capitol Records sound always ran good and bad:
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED . . .
TENDERLOIN
THE GAY LIFE
THE MUSIC MAN
KISS ME KATE
MGM:
THE THREEPENNY OPERA
SHE LOVES ME possibly the worst sounding cast recording?
Numero Uno! BK sure is hitting up the old chains recently. And I'm enjoying it.
My memory of Numero Uno -- and I could be all wrong on this -- is that they were the first "Chicago style" "pan" or "deep dish" pizza to be really known in L.A., and it seems like their first place was on La Cienega. Actually, the more I type, the less certain I am of these things.
But it was a treat then, even though I didn't follow it up. Oddly, the year I spent in Chicago, I became so enamored of the hot dogs and other foodstuffs that I had almost no pizza at all except when someone would bring some to a party at the apartment complex.
I can enjoy these now, but only on occasion, because now I'm OBSESSED with the thin crust Connecticut style.
-
Gimme some of that Connecticut pizza. The best.
-
I am not a big fan of Chicago style pizza, I do however like Numero Uno's. At least I used to. It has been years since we have eaten there.
New Haven had fantastic pizza.
Hello, everyone.
Good news from Elmore re his epidural.
Belated congrats to DR Laura on her expanding family.
Marc Ginsberg didn't win a Robbie for LEVI!? Marc Ginsberg WAS Levi! I can only imagine that he was really, really, really great in THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL.
I see that BK finally mentioned the weather here. It's been freezing! Highs around 54 or 55, with a bit of wind, but for some reason it feels much colder. I pulled out my wool sweaters and other winter clothes.
-
Feel-better-pronto vibes to TCB!
-
About time for me to hit the road to JFK to pick up Kristi and Nathan, who had a wonderful time in Savannah. Today they toured the Mercer house, and I'm glad that happened because apparently it isn't always open to the public. But they walked to it and were admiring it, and someone said come on in.
I don't know about Connecticut pizza outside of New Haven because that is where we went for pizza the year we lived in Connecticut. We kept hearing the pizza was the best there and it was because of the brick ovens. It was more than just that. Some were coal-fired pizza ovens and others were oil-fueled brick ovens. .
Of course the dough, sauce, cheese, and the toppings were all first rate as well.
The pizzas were very flavorful
From the website of possibly the most popular pizza place in New Haven:
"Frank Pepe knew in 1925 that only coal burns hot and dry, and doesn’t give off steam like a wood fire. He knew that only a coal fire could give his “tomato pies” their famous crisp, charred, chewy crust."
We still haven't watched it. I think we needed a break from Churchill for a bit.
Tonight we are going to watch BLADE RUNNER 2049. I think I will refresh my memory on the original.
Funny, we only have one more year to go before the world of the original Blade Runner.
I know! It's like "Back to the Future, Part II" (which was made in 1989) went from 1985 to 2015 (and back to 1955, too), and it's now 2018!
30 days, kind of a pain. Hopefully the initial tests give enough detail.
Yes, as were a few other places.
Well, I need to leave work now.
Be back later.
The 2nd half of the film deals with Dunkirk.
Interesting that DUNKIRK and DARKEST HOUR were released within a few months of each other.
Yes, and I'm still waiting to see both.
-
Right now, I'm watching a George Pal film called Tom Thumb with Russ Tamblyn. An old acquaintance wrote one of the songs, as did Peggy Lee, who was not an old acquaintance.
-
I want to see DUNKIRK and THE DARKEST HOUR as well......
-
I think I've had enough Tom Thumb for the evening.
And I'm off to bed.
With just a few posts to page five.
Just two more.
Five!
DR Vixmom the doctor seems to be thorough. Did you like him?
Yes he really listened to me, he had my records from my general practioner up on his screen and was asking questions...
-
Back from JFK, and boy, was this one a trip. Someone had turned their car over on the Van Wyck down near the Belt Parkway, and the traffic was backed up to the World's Fair site. It was brutal.
I'm pretty good at building in the right amount of extra time whenever I drive into the city, because you NEVER know what you're going to get -- most times, it's nothing or very little, but then something like this happens and it all pays off. It took me one full hour to get into the airport from where I saw the brake lights ahead. It's also a good thing I wasn't hungry or thirsty or needing a bathroom. Brutal, I tell you.
-
Noted:
1010-WINS ("traffic and weather on the ones") pronounces it "Van Wick".
WCBS 880 ("traffic and weather on the eights") pronounces it "Van Wyke", which I believe is the more correct.
-
On that note (you'll have to guess which one), I bid you all a good night.
-
I know eventually we will see The Darket Hour.
-
Keith finally sounded better today and coughed less.
I am still the same, never sure if I am coming down with something or not.
-
Page five? Really?
-
Okay, I'll take the heat, I'll take the blame - I've been errant and truant since Numero Uno, which I'll talk about in the notes. As soon as I got home I went to the mail place, then came back home. It was already four by then, as we didn't leave for lunch until two. Once home I got involved in merde, then some long conversations on the telephonic device, one of which is going to involve a decision about taking on a project I may not want to take on to quite the extent I'm being asked to think about, but we'll have a meeting about it and see.
-
Then I had to work at the piano and I finished a song I've been working on and then I just sat on my couch like so much fish and watched two count them two motion pictures.
-
Good evening.
-
Hello, George.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
I decided I needed to check and make sure we were at a “safe” post total.
-
I think we're safe.
;)
-
I've been sort of watching the closing ceremony of the Olympics.
-
Is GRUBHUB a national chain, or is it a Northwest company?
-
I made my own DVD of the opening ceremony, so I also want the closing ceremony.
-
