Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Sammy and other things, and now it is time for you to post until the other cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GUERDON!
-
First post after BK!
-
From yesterday:
What is an Aztec Salad?
The Aztec salad is "romaine, corn & black bean salsa, avocado, tortilla strips, cheddar cheese, tomato, jalapeño, cilantro, onion, chipotle dressing." I got it without the jalapeño, though.
-
Did you read my final post in the other thread, darling George?

Did you read my final post in the other thread, darling George?
Yes, I did...and I'm working on it.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone? Just because it's one-thirty in the morning?
-
I think it's time for George's theater company to do a revival of The Brain from Planet X. I'd come up and see it again.

I wish we could!

Without the jalapeno as you had it sounds good. Is the dressing hot as all?
-
Thank you DR TCB.

So do I.
-
Bruce, I enjoyed reading your memories of Sammy.

It's a little spicy from the typical "southwestern" flavors, but not hot at all.
-
DONE!!
-
Finally. ;)
-
Have a good day, all!

DONE!!
It involves a spoiler alert so I will wait to read it.

Not wanting g to begin reading GEE on a flight with too many distractions I opted to read another book first.
-
Good morning, all.
-
The concert last night was excellent. The house was light but they were energetic and loved most every number. Favorites of mine included Aisha de Hass on Blue Skies and Mr. Paganini, Capathia Jenkins on Blues in the Night and Harolyn Blackwell on Summertime. The symphony also had a great time with Sing, Sing, Sing.
-
The women also sang the songs in Ella’s style, no vocal histrionics a la American Idol. In fact, there was a sweetness and purity about their voices that really worked. And their diction was superb.
-
Afterwards, another usher and I snuck in for the last part of the South Texas Blues Fest, which was in the theater next door. More great singing.
-
Tonight it’s the Hip Hop Orchestra.
-
DR John, the concert last night sounds like something I would enjoy.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Lovely comments about Sammy Williams, BK!
-
I've finished my assignment on Act One of Me and My Girl, so today will be a How To Succeed . . . day. After I tidy up this dump. It's amazing how much havoc two rambunctious kitties create.
-
Good morning to all
-
A very nice remembrance of Sammy Williams.
-
We watched THE SHAPE OF WATER last night.
It was well done, but I didn't really "love" it.
Unlike THREE BILLBOARDS, which had its own issues, there was nothing in the film that surprised me.
Performances were fine, though I thought Michael Shannon's character was written to be a bit too "over the top".
-
Did Sammy Williams appear in A CHORUS LINE when it played the Shubert in Los Angeles?
(I think I saw it at the Shubert in Century City.)
-
George - for the Battle number change: actually, no problem at all for us, and it could be interesting to see how it goes in the Redmond production if that's what they choose. It was interesting to Skip and me that they asked to use the Battle number that was done at the Village in 2008, and the licensor company has no problem about it. We knew there was an audio (though not greatest sound; IIRC, it was more about hearing what got audience reaction) of that, with the different number, as the audio was done very openly, so that may have been what folks in nearby Redmond had gotten used to. The Kritzerland cast album was in 2005, the Village Theatre audio was 2008.
-
Hmm, could adding the new 8-minute Battle be an excuse, er, occasion to update the cast album?
There also does seem to be renewed interest in the 1984 "Last Starfighter" film online because the author/novelist of the new Spielberg film "Ready Player One" Ernest Cline was very influenced by the original "Last Starfighter" film.
-
Good morning, all.
-
In a couple of hours I must get ready for a closing matinee.
-
Enjoyed a (slightly) extended sleep, and, just now, coffee and some delicious Pillsbury cinnamon rolls.
-
When I get home this evening I shall enjoy Act 2 of my corned beef & cabbage & carrots & potatoes meal.
-
Just for the heckavit, my setup for this week's journey into a forest.
-
Sunday morning greetings! I saw Fr. Richard off to fill in for the priest in Dayton and have been reading the paper and puttering a bit.
-
DR Chas, nice pic of your setup. Do your setups vary? If so, please share photos more often.
-
Thank you, BK, for the nice remembrance of Sammy. I will listen to A Chorus Line today...
-
We watched LBJ last night and enjoyed it very much.
-
I appreciate the comments from the Pacific Northwesters about our decision not to make the trip. We never say never, but it just wasn't coming together for this summer.
-
Nice notes today - thanks for sharing your thoughts MR BK.
-
Nice photo DR CHAS SMITH....yes our setup changes for each show....we have a PIT in a LOFT on the stage right side of our theatre....it's much better than when the band was on the floor next to the audience on Stage Right.
-
Two Indiana teams Hooterville and Pixley are playing in the NCAA tournament at 12:10 p.m. so I will probably watch that....
-
DR Chas, nice pic of your setup. Do your setups vary? If so, please share photos more often.
Yes, as DR Jrand67 says, they vary, but the pictures would tend to look a lot alike. This one, however, marks the MacBook Pro's first outing.
-
One of the musicians I play with a lot does something I wish I'd begun long ago. He takes a photo or two documenting the setup, and usually the players, in every show or other gig he plays, which would amount to a wonderful collection of memories. I think I have a few older ones, but I will make it a point to snap something from now on.
-

Thanks for the heads-up, DR JRand!
I'm still recovering from Michigan's buzzer-beater victory last night - well, early this morning...
-
I finished
all some of my housework and had a short nap. Thatch jumped out of his cat tree to lie beside me and let me pet him. When he had enough, he went back to the tree. Annabelle's sleeping in the bathroom. I'd like another hour of napping but I must get to work.
-
Good morning.
-
I took a nice walk this morning to get a bus pass for tomorrow. I had a rather lengthy discussion with the clerk about how much a bus pass would cost. A round-trip day pass is four dollars. She insisted it was two dollars. She finally showed me the pass she was trying to sell me; it is a senior pass. I told her I didn't qualify. She looked astonished.
-
I think "astonished" is a word that should be used more often.

I suspect the clerk was a youngun
-
Several years ago I was given the senior discount a Kohl's without bring asked if I qualified
-
I am still not old doghouse toquSlif
-
WTH?
-
I am still not old enough to qualify
-
I am still not old doghouse toquSlif
Of course not! I am e hamster
-
Yesterday I fell asleep after only one post
-
The gasmen did arrive this week as promised . They were here by 8:15
-
I had to leave by 8:55 because of the soup kitchen
-
My cochair ( and chief cook and bottle washer) wasn't attending because of the funeral of a fellow parishioner, and as she is the Sexton she was required to be at the church
-
She had bought and packed everything fr me though, so I just had to collect every thing from our church and transport it to the church where the soup kitchen is held
-
I was concerned about lack of volunteers because of the funeral but a number of volunteers from other churches showed up to help
-
Then some people from the Jewish center showed up with trays of leftovers from a function held the night before
-
One tray was full of chicken but not enough to go around
-
One of the gents there who does cooking on some of the other weeks took over cooking duties and instead of the originally planned ziti with sauce and meatballs on the side, he located some shredded mozzarella and sliced the chicken and made baked ziti with sliced chicken
-
Then we served the meatballs on the side along with salad and garlic bread
-
We served 106
-
Lovely comments about Sammy Williams, BK!
They were great notes.
-
I got home at 2 pm and Vixdad told me the gas men had just finished and gone
-
Now instead of our gas meter being in the basement it is standing outside the front of the house
-
DR John, the concert last night sounds like something I would enjoy.
I think most folks here would have enjoyed it. What better than about 100 musicians playing their way through some amazing orchestrations. One showstopper I forgot to mention was Capathia Jenkins on "Something's Got to Give." She can really sell a song.
-
Ugly
-
We're going to have to plant a bush in front of it
-
Very nice notes BK
-
Oh! John showed up whi,e I was typing....let me go see what he had to say
-
I am still not old enough to qualify
Depends on what age one has to be to qualify. A lot of senior discounts start at age 55. If McDonald's wants to give me a discount on its coffee, I'll take the discount. I like it better than Starbucks. Not as burnt tasting.
-

IHOP it starts at 60 so I qualify
-
Arby's in Canada starts at 55, I am not sure about here
-
Kohl's I believe the age is 65

Went to church this morning and had to leave early because someone was wearing a fragrance that did not agree with me. I felt a migraine coming on and started to get nauseous. I came home and slept several hours. I still feel somewhat sluggish, but not as bad as I did.

I am sorry to hear this
Vibes you are feeling 100% soon
-
I ended up as assisting minister today as I received a text asking me to swap weeks. I was supposed to do next week
-
One of the families in our church volunteered to do coffeehour and a new member who came to the soup kitchen yesterday joined altar guild today!!
-
I appreciate the comments from the Pacific Northwesters about our decision not to make the trip. We never say never, but it just wasn't coming together for this summer.
Completely understandable. It seems, for me anyway, too often there is someplace or event I want to be without it happening.

I am shocked she thought you were a senior, on the other had you should have just accepted the discount ;D

Finally.

Sorry. I expected it would be on the side of the house.

I hope you find a pretty bush that works.

I expect the person was wearing too much fragrance adding to your reaction.
Feel completely better super fast.

A couple of weeks ago we went out to dinner with friends. The youngest of the 4 of us is 60. There was a sign outside the restaurant mentioning a senior discount but did not say we needed to ask for it. When the discount was not reflected on our bills we asked why not. The waitress would never risk insulting anyone and ask if they were seniors so we didn't get it. We were a bit peeved then that the sign didn't say we had to ask for it.
-
And no, the waitress did not offer to make the adjustment.
-

I know I would've loved it!

My friend Margo is NOT afraid to say that she's a senior. She always tells the server right up front and asks if there's a discount (if she doesn't know already). Don't be afraid, Jane! Just say, "We're seniors!" :D
-
And no, the waitress did not offer to make the adjustment.
She should've made the adjustment! >:(

Gratuitous post #100!

Generally the policy is that you do have to mention it when ordering or checking out ( at a store)
-
BTW. Vixdad does not accept the discount at IHOP because we are both still working
-
I ask for it when I go alone. ;)
-
And now, I must get out of bed and do stuff. I don't plan on leaving my house, but who knows what the day will bring. ;)
Until later!

But perhaps. I am just a suspicious cynical Noo Yorka

I don't think I knew there was a new one
-
You know if BK wants more posts from me , he should come over and clean my house
-
But as I suspect he will refuse my most reasonable request , I will see you later
-
I'm up, I'm up - was up briefly at ten-twenty, then slept another two hours - about nine hours of sleep.
-
Yes, as I wrote in the notes, I met Sammy when he was doing A Chorus Line here at the Shubert, Druxy.
-
Dear reader George wrote a lovely review of GEE - it does contain one very minor spoiler alert but it's very minor and it's not really a spoiler since it happens on about page three. :)

ROTFL!!

I have accepted offered senior discounts for many years now (thanks, Mom, for the early gray hair), but the problem is that if I get on the light rail (which is done on the honor system) and security boards and asks for our tickets, I would have to provide ID showing that I qualify for the senior pass. It is a very heavy fine to either board without a ticket or for using a discount pass without being qualified.
You can bet I always accept the senior discount at Golden Corral, though!
-
Listening to John Kander's The Landing. The music is good, but not exactly as good as his other work.
-
I think HHW should offer a Senior Discount, double our post count with a HHWCard.....I would gladly show my ID.
-
Meatballs On The Side is the title of my new album of Swedish folk songs....
-
Congrats to Pixley on its win....I am still mad about Ohio over Houston last night.....but congrats to Michigan as well.....
It's a crazy tournament! Who knows what will happen next?
-
There was a paperback book show today - I was supposed to sign from eleven to twelve, but since I didn't have GEE I didn't feel like doing it. Unless this show is a lot earlier than last year's, I already had Thrill Ride by this time. But that makes sense as I'd probably have these books had this nine day delay not happened.
-

Hello, everyone.
-
thanks for all the vibes for my painful arm. It's letting me do a bit more today; the pain just decided to go elsewhere. Sigh.

My thoughts exactly. Anyone over 40 looks ancient to some young people.

I do wish more people--and it's mostly women--would be more conscious of how their fragrances affect others, particularly in crowded venues such as churches and concert halls.
I'm sorry it affects you so much. It bothers me, too, but once I get away from it I'm usually OK. Vibes you are completely over it very soon.

Hum, I hadn't thought of that. You may be right.

Making pasta right now.

It was the big sign outside announcing it was senior day that we didn't expect to need to ask for the discount. We always ask when we go to a movie.
-

I am not sure why that should make a difference, otherwise it would be called a retired discount, vs senior ;)

That’s why I would have spoken with a manager. Only they can explain why the sign and deal with how to handle the situation. A waitress often has no power to change anything.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Pasta all eaten - very good.

Dear reader George wrote a lovely review of GEE - it does contain one very minor spoiler alert but it's very minor and it's not really a spoiler since it happens on about page three. :)
I also didn't think the spoiler would be a problem because that spoiler information is included in the sample right there in the Amazon listing. ::)

The library where I work instigated a no-scent policy for employees quite a few years ago. Of course, that doesn't apply to patrons coming into the library.

Well, since we're so close...

LOL, kind of a different subject. DR Vixmom suspects that IHOP, and other restaurants serve smaller portions if you take a senior discount. DR Jeanne was curious if this is true. :)
As for our situation, we just wanted to leave and didn't bother.

I know that some restaurants have a special senior menu, and those items are smaller and less expensive than the items on their regular menu.
-
When we order a salad as a main meal, such as those huge salads at The Cheesecake Factory, I order a small size for less money. I rarely finish the small salad they are so big there where most restaurants the small is just the right size for me.
-
Last night we ate at Beaches, Keith had their full size Beach salad and I had the smaller one.
-
Page six? Really?
-
Beach Salad sounds like a song from an Annette & Frankie movie.

Not writing about my donuts anymore - chocolate peanut butter, gone. Chocolate whipped cream, gone. Copycats. They will rot in hell for their unoriginality.

Sorry. Does Stan's still have his peanut butter donuts?

Last night at Beaches the Vancouver Firefighters Pipes & Drums group had a little parades at the restaurant to raise money. I donated but couldn't actually hear what it was for.

All those windows look out over the Columbia River.
-
There were 10 firefighters in the parade.
-
I had a nice dinner of yellow squash zoodles, bell peppers, and onions.

They do indeed, but K's is one minute from here :)

And no, the waitress did not offer to make the adjustment.
She should've made the adjustment! >:(
I suspect that seniors who ask for the discount get slightly smaller portions
Hum, I hadn't thought of that. You may be right.
Does our resident restaurant critic, DR John G, have any thoughts on this?
I would have taken it up with a manager.
Some days you bother, some days you don't.
I think the question directed at you was if restaurants serve smaller portions if you ask for the senior discount.
That’s why I would have spoken with a manager. Only they can explain why the sign and deal with how to handle the situation. A waitress often has no power to change anything.
LOL, kind of a different subject. DR Vixmom suspects that IHOP, and other restaurants serve smaller portions if you take a senior discount. DR Jeanne was curious if this is true. :)
As for our situation, we just wanted to leave and didn't bother.
Yes, it's true for most places. But there's a diner chain I go to that gives you two sides and bread with the senior special and it's nice, especially when I get a double order of the fried okra, which is always better than it has any right to be.

That sounds really good.

Listening to Amen Corner, one of the DV-Rs I got recently. The score is very much of its period, but it's lively and a lot of fun -- and a lot better than some of the other shows of the period that lasted far longer. Ruth Brown wails her songs the way Linda Hopkins did at the start and finish of Purlie in a way that causes goosebumps. The book for the show must have been really horrible.

Good night, all.

Watching a fascinating documentary on the Flix of Net.

Not the same but there is the option for an occasional peanut butter donut.

I never considered the portions would be smaller. That diner knows how to do it the right way.
