Well, you've read the notes, the notes were lusty and written in May, and now it is time for you to post until the lusty May cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EVENTUATE!
-
First post after BK!
-
And to continue from last night...after I played a few games on my new mini Classic SNES console, I remembered that I needed to pay my property taxes! :o
-
It was literally five minutes after midnight by this time, so I knew that there would be a fee. Oh, well...the last time (fortunately, I was late only once before), there was a $12 fee, which isn't too bad. So, when I went to the county assessor's website, found my parcel and went through the process to pay online (if you use the routing and account numbers from your check instead of a card, it's free), BUT I got a message that said, "The order could not be created. This date is beyond the latest allowed payment date. Please select an earlier date." IT WOULDN'T LET ME PAY!! WTF?? ???
-
Also, the website to pay is a 3rd-party website and it's totally different than it used to be. So, I'll call sometime today and see what the heck is going on. Damn them! >:(
-
George, did you try putting in the April 30th date? Sometimes, those third party machines don’t change the date until the next start of business.

George, did you try putting in the April 30th date? Sometimes, those third party machines don’t change the date until the next start of business.
I tried, but it wouldn't let me change the date to an earlier date.
-
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good luck making your payment today!
-
Congrats on your new classic SNES console.
-
DR TCB, I would rather me a grandmother than go on another cruise.
-
I would rather you could walk than my great wish to be a grandmother be granted.

Good morning, all!
-
All is quiet here except for the fact that he purifiers are buzzing away and the cats are mystified by them.

I had several strange dreams: in one I was riding around Middletown OH with my brother Macbeth and my cousin Jeanne, sister of my cousin Judy, who died last week. We passed the location of the old high school and the building was no longer there.
In another, I was working on a set for a show inside someone's garage. I was with several friends are we were building a tree.
-
The only change in my current regular routine is a trip to my bank this morning to ask for copies of two cancelled checks, which I will take to Staples and photocopy.
-
Good morning

I must take my car to the shop

All the songs mentioned in the notes....plus:

My all-time favorite novelty song is Phil Harris' THE THING.

T.O.D. (2)
If the clip on YouTube wasn't out-of-sync, I was also going to put Ray Walston's "Those Were the Good Old Days" from DAMN YANKEES up here, too. Love that song. In fact, I still know all the lyrics by heart.
While on YouTube, I noticed there was also a clip from the DAMN YANKEES revival with Jerry Lewis.
Wow! Talking about kissing the ass of a star.
Not only did they add 2 more verses of "Good Old Days" for him to sing, along with some unfunny schtick with a cane, but they also replaced the character of "Joe" with "The Devil" (i.e. Lewis) in the "Two Lost Souls" number. Made no sense in that context.
Maybe it's just me, but I have never found Jerry Lewis to be funny...even when I was a kid in the 1950s.
Indeed, I met him once. Found him to be rather cold.

Annabelle and I made our apartment patrol and we came in just in time to hear the major Tony nominations. Leslie Odom Jr, for a Broadway actor, sure doesn't know how to pronounce Hammerstein.

Good morning.
-
And yes, I did indeed answer the question.
-
TOD:
When I was growing up in the 70s, the novelty songs were "The Streak", "Convoy" and my all-time favorite, "Junk Food Junkie". I think a lot of these songs got their start on the Dr. Dimento show.
-
Back from the bank and a brief visit with Val, I'm waiting for the eggs to boil.
-
Once again no nomination for me - so I'm counting on those write-in votes, folks.
List on the Time Magazine site includes this:
Best Scenic Design of a Play: Angles in America

I like all of those songs, too, DR AMY.....and yes I was a regular Dr. Demento listener!

DR Ginny, I'm having lunch with Jim Martin next week. Wish you were here!
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.
-
Success! After the unsuccessful attempt at paying my property taxes, I wondered if it was the browser that I was using and it was. I had been on Firefox and when I used Microsoft Edge, everything worked without any trouble. Very strange. I still had to pay the late fee ($18 :o :P ) but it worked and I'm legal. I'll keep that in mind when I pay again in six months.
-
Topic of the Day: anything by "Weird Al" Yankovic! :D
-
Congrats on your new classic SNES console.
Thanks! I told a couple of co-workers here at work and one is going at her lunch time to see if one of the other two units are still left!
-
The only change in my current regular routine is a trip to my bank this morning to ask for copies of two cancelled checks, which I will take to Staples and photocopy.
Larry, couldn't the bank just make you the extra copies that you need, or do they charge (more than Stapes) for each copy?
-
Good
morning afternoon, all!
-
Back from (you know) and it’s such a gorgeous day out there I can hardly believe it. I’m monitoring the kitties’ afternoon meal — something one must do when one of them is on a special diet — after which I’m thinking I’ll go out and blow some of...ahem...last fall’s leaves out of the yard.
Life in Connecticut, don’tcha know.

Stine or Steen? How did Hammerstein pronounce his name. I tried to find a video and could not. I have seen him, in old clips, introduced both ways.
-
TOD
Yep, a bunch of them from Dr. Demento’s show, and a few from Brian Clewer’s (sp?) Cynic’s Choice. That show was on Sunday mornings on WLAD-FM.
(When was Demento on in L.A.? Sunday evenings? Saturday evenings?)
Others as well. I have some comedy albums that must contain some, including some quite ribald ones.
-
Tuesday afternoon greetings! I slept late this morning, then had to rush around in order to leave at 11:30 for this month’s DAR luncheon. Stopped at the public library on the way home and here I am.

DR Ginny, I'm having lunch with Jim Martin next week. Wish you were here!
That makes me very happy. Please give him our best!

I used to have a friend who wrote and sang songs for the Dr Demento show. She went by the name of Su Lu. DR Amy or Jrand or any other DRs remember her? I really admired her courage to do that.

Does anyone have an update on how Ron's mother is doing?

We actually had a little rain this morning. I was doing laundry (must go outside), but the rain was of no consequence.

And he was pronouncing it incorrectly. Then it would be spelled Bernstien. Do we know this for certain?

I suspect Loewe's family name in Germany was spelled something like Löwe.

i'm enjoying Masterpiece's THE UNFORGOTTEN. I like both leads in this show very much.

If you're referring to Elmer it most assuredly is STEEN.

I have this vague memory of reading something where he (Elmer) had specified that he preferred the STEEN pronunciation. But I learned a LONG time ago that names don't have to follow regular pronunciation rules.

Hello!

What's with this page 3 malarkey?

I know Harvey Weinstein is pronounced "Winesteen" but Buffalo had a news anchor for many years named Irv Weinstein (pronounced WINESTINE).

Insert smug, sanctimonious face here.

Just kidding, Jane.

Wow.
-
Is everyone on vacation, too?
-
They seem to be.

‘Cause they ain’t here.
-
Today was a gorgeous day in Maine.
-
My friend saw Meteor Shower and said she didn't think Amy Schumer deserved a Tony nomination. Some are saying she was nominated for ratings purposes.
-
Spent time lolling around docks, watching others work and listening to the water.
-
Ate way too much fabulous food.
-
Let’s move on.
-
Four!
-
What’s this page four malarkey?
-
For dinner, we went to an Italian place called Nina June’s. A lot has been written about it. We managed to get a reservation I guess since it’s out of season.
-
Carol had a thin green pasta made from parsley and egg. It was tossed with crab meat and a lemon sauce. Luscious.
-
I had three appetizers because they were three of my top 10 favorite foods. How could I say no?
-
Glad to hear you're enjoying your trip, DR JohnG!
-
I had a half-dozen local oysters on the half shell, a plate of local radishes with bagna cauda (warm butter dip with anchovies and garlic), and two huge bones filled with marrow.
-
I was happy times three.
-
Glad to hear you're enjoying your trip, DR JohnG!
How are you, KevinH?
-
Tomorrow we head back to Massachusetts for a few more days.
-
Gratuitous post no. 100!
-

I wondered. :-\ I like Amy Schumer, but I wouldn't have thought that she was a Tony caliber actress.

Oh, this one's just a spelling thing. Sometimes there's something you just never quite get straight in your head. For me, this is one of those things.
-
Well, I must be going. I'm going to meet my friend Shelly for dinner at the local Plaza Jalisco Mexican restaurant. Their food is quite delish!
Be back later.
-
I have had good luck finding books on this trip, including a Balzac I haven’t read and a Hawthorns I’m really enjoying. There’s also something odd called Ginger Rogers and the Riddle of the Scarlet Cloak.
-
Good night, all.
-
Just kidding, Jane.
;D
-
Keith's mother's maiden name ends with stein and is pronounced steen. As is often the case it is a variation of the original name which sounded closer to Steen, therefore the family pronounced it that way.
-
John, I am very pleased you are enjoying your much needed vacation.
-
We are watching MA AND PA KETTLE.

Does Rod Rosenstein, deputy attorney general, read HHW?
The STEEN vs STINE debate was present today in Washington, along with impeachment, according to the NY Times:
"But he [Rosenstein] also held forth on less weighty matters, including pronunciation of his own last name, an occasional topic of lighthearted debate in Washington.
“So, there’s no right answer to that,” he said. “My father pronounces it ‘stine.’ That’s how I pronounce it. But I actually have relatives who pronounce it ‘steen,’ so I’ll answer to either one.”
-
I once worked for a guy whose last name could be pronounced two ways. Some days he'd use one, other days the other. Now THAT is going too far, IMHO.
-
Those last two posts were funny.
-
I watched CALL THE MIDWIFE. That show does deal with some difficult subject matter. But there's always so much grace and kindness, as well. There's so much warmth to it. I really like the show.
-
Thank you, Jane. Not everyone "gets" my sense of humor. In person, one can provide facial expressions or some subtle body language. Here all we have are emoticons. Not the same!
-
DR John G, please note the use of only one space following the period in my posts above, even though I'm really a two-space kind of girl.
(This writer/editor feels that a lot depends on context, as clarity is paramount.)
-
Good night.
-
I don't know from spelling but Elmer was BernSTEEN. There's no discussion on this folks - I knew him, I've issued tons of his music. Leonard is STINE. Elmer is STEEN.
-

The link I put up is more than just about how Leonard pronounced his name. It suggests that the Steens are mispronoucing their names ;D
-
Good evening.

I stuck to my guns today and ate under 1000 calories. I need to do that for the next five months.

I have the same trouble with my last name. Some pronounce it lund and some people pronounce it land.
-
I prefer lund, but the way people butcher my last name, land or lund is the least of my problems.
