Volunteers will be scheduled based on how much they've volunteered over the last couple of months, so because I was in Cinder Edna, I probably won't be offered an usher or concessions slot. But, maybe so few people volunteered that I might make the cut. I'll find out soon enough.

Not quite Sinatra, Crosby or Elvis, but I did memorize those songs and, for the most part, still remember the words.

And it's so hard to shake those when I wake up. It's like, REAL, man.

I was in a hospital, waiting on my doctor to perform surgery on my lower back. The hospital was packed, so the surgery was to be done on a helicopter flying at a level of 300 feet. The surgeon was the child psychologist I saw between 1959-1962, and hundreds of yellow tulips sprang up from the the ground under the air space where the surgery was performed.

I have no idea if the surgery was successful.

I discovered Gershwin in 5th grade via the symphonic pieces, Porgy and Bess shortly thereafter, and he is forever honored as my first true musical obsession. Almost concurrent with Porgy, South Pacific opened my eyes to the world of musicals. The gatefold cast album, an edition I still love, got played TO DEATH. That led to more Rodgers and Hammerstein, and then The Music Man rocked the boat in a major way. Li'l Abner and Finian's Rainbow worked their way in there, and finally came the mother lode, West Side Story.

During this time (this is all junior high and high school) I opened myself to popular music on the radio, basking in the glories of WQAM, Miami's "Tiger Radio", 560 on the AM dial, with Rick Shaw, a top notch DJ revered today. I could probably only name a handful of favorite songs from then, but I loved it all.

The Swingle Singers exploded onto my scene with that first album and the Bourree, and I freely correlate the joy of that with my senior year introduction to Arthur Loesser and his uniquely incredible way with Bach on the piano. Brubeck's Take Five was a revelation. Gilbert and Sullivan entered my life via the Kenny Baker movie of The Mikado and the Groucho Marx presentation on the Bell Telephone Hour, both seen on B&W TV. Once I discovered the lush stereo series of D'Oyly Carte recordings, I was hooked. In the summer immediately following high school, a friend of a friend brought the forces of Gustav Mahler and Carl Orff into my life, capping this period and propelling me on to the world of college and beyond.

They are closing the ONLY road into the town where the theatre is, so starting Tuesday I will have to go five miles OUT of my way to get there....and back.....10 miles a day....40 or 50 miles a week.....

Post by: bk on June 23, 2018, 04:54:53 PM: Back from picking up a package and no mail, buying a new phone and second handset from Staples, as my seven year old phones were dying - even though I replaced all the batteries last year, wouldn't hold a charge for even thirty minutes. I must say, I got the same brand, two handsets and base units and boy are these things inexpensive now. So, I hooked them up, they're charging then I'll do some programming in of a few numbers.

She told me that several people she knows take CBD (cannabis) just before bed and it really helps them sleep. She's ordering some for her patients. I'm not sure I want to do that, but I did ask about the CBD oil to use topically for pain. When a friend told me that her 101-year-old mother is using CBD oil I had to admit I should try it. My acupuncturist is also a naturopath, so we're both looking for natural, nontoxic products.

Some reviewers have called them Christie-esque, but I think the style is more like that of Georgette Heyer. Murder mysteries, but very light on blood and gore.

Originally they were out of the chocolate cherry bread and the delivery wasn't expected for several hours. As we were leaving a man walked up pushing a big cart loaded with food. Of course I held the door open for him which is why Keith noticed the cart was filled with bread 😊

So far so good, I must say. But there are things I know I have that I am not finding. I moved all the SACD things I found to a shelf but it's only about half of them I'd say and I've got to find the other half. Most of the boxes that are left are soundtracks, otherwise I think I've been through all the jazz CDs, but maybe not. All the B'way CDs are on shelves, but not in order. And the stuff I'm bringing in the house so far has found places to stay in the house, but out of sight. I can probably get 200 more in cupboards that just sit empty. That's really a good thing.

*Post adjusted. I just watched Karen Ziemba's version (https://youtu.be/4tpGQrNWUyI) but it different than what the Debbie's Dance girls performed to. At the time, I thought she sounded like Karen Ziemba, but now I don't know who sang it. I do know that it wasn't Debbie Shapiro Gravitte. ::)

Post by: George on June 23, 2018, 11:16:08 PM: Whoever choreographed the song had no clew as to how the Rockettes dance because the tweenage girls in this number had moments where they were posing in sexy ways, and they did jumps that the Rockettes never do, and a few gymnastic moves that aren't even real dancing. This was the only number I went in to watch because I love the song and wanted to know which version they used, but it continued their tradition of age-inappropriate choreography. :P
