Thanks to all for the continued vibes. They are much appreciated. No new news about my mother and my fun starts at 1 p.m. Not sure how cogent I will be to post afterwards. We shall see....
I always enjoy Miss Connie Francis, and DR ELMORE's story was very sad for me.
There was a period this morning, before I spent 45 minutes on the phone with my HMO, where this site was down. Anyone else have a problem?
Back from chicken tenders (TEENY) and a side Caesar salad with so much dressing I had to send it back - those who know me know I'm all about the dressing, but this I couldn't even see the lettuce.
I am so goddamned pissed. I started running water for a bath, Randy called me about an offer on the property, we started talking, and I flooded the bathroom again. Val's angry, the neighbors below me are unhappy, I have a mess on my hands, and I am ready to kill.

I've done a lot of signings and a couple have been as elmore described save for the fact that I've always sold at least one book. But I remember being in a Barnes and Noble when Harlan Ellison was doing a signing - I didn't know he was going to be there, and he sold not one book nor did anyone stop by to talk to him.

In 1983-85 I worked for a Canadian book chain, Classic Books, at 48th and Sixth Avenue, where a Gap now stands.
Some time during that period, there was a book signing for Connie Francis. She was a lovely lady, very friendly to the staff, and I doubt we sold a single book. That poor lady sat at a table of books for hours, and I would swear that no one stopped or purchased a book.

That reminds me of a funny quote that someone posted on a tumblr account that I follow:
"Salad Dressing" sounds a lot more elegant than "Lettuce Sauce".
I just had a piece of pie named after the former mayor of Washington D.C.

Well, I must be off. I'm going to meet with my friend Margo to see the filmed-on-Broadway production of Bandstand at the movie theater! I like the cast recording. We'll see if I like the actual show.
Be back later.
I'm listening to one of the greatest albums ever made. There is no other way to say it. I'm so glad I've been going through all these boxes. The album? Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Porgy and Bess, arrangements/orchestrations by the brilliant Russ Garcia (he also did the Mel Torme version a few years prior to this, but the two resemble each other not a whit). The 1958 stereo cannot be beat by those who make albums today, the orchestra sounds incredible, and Ella and Louis are at the top of their considerable game. A masterpiece.
Then I'll be listening to the Swingle Singers Christmas album, followed by a MJQ CD (The Comedy), followed by the group that was the precursor to the Swingles - Les Double Six - some of the same singers, including Christiane Legrand. Have no idea what I'm in for.
Beginning to watch Straight, No Chaser, a documentary on Thelonious Monk. The music sure sounds good.

I hope you have a drier and more peaceful evening, Elmore.

Wait, what, an offer on the property?

I went to Safeway today, and got none of the things I went there to get.
I really think I am getting old-age brain.
I can’t believe that June is almost over.
The days are already getting shorter.
I wish I had gone back to see LITTLE SHOP on its closing performance on Sunday.
Chris is playing Cogsworth again.
