After work last night, I did some more prop shopping, but I have some questions to ask the director.  I need to know (among other things) how many laptops does she want?  And books and textbooks are mentioned throughout the show.  How many of those does she think should be used.  Things like that.

Today, music practice. Life has been anything and everything but music these past couple of months, and it's time to get back. The theater at the Abbey is doing SHE LOVES ME this summer. I'm not involved with that, but I am playing for a little "Afternoon Cabaret" this Sunday in which the leads will be demonstrating their wares so I have to get back up to speed on those songs. Several other things will be sung, including "Haled's Song About Love" from THE BAND'S VISIT and "In My Dreams" from ANASTASIA which is very beautiful music.

Mother Dolores Hart will be doing a reading which I think is going to be from TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. It will be good to be back there to see her and everyone else again. It's been a year since I did that event with her and Tomie DePaola...who by the way I hear is not in the greatest of health these days.

...in that movie, she sat in the principal's office and stated her case clearly and concisely and with strong words said she would NOT change her position, stood up, and staunchly walked....

A moment later she came back:  ".....I forgot my purse...."

It really was wonderful how she did that one line and added some facial expressions and movements....she can be comedy gold....

So, as I began playing through the SHE LOVES ME material I realized I'd never really worked on these songs.

Ever.

I've "known" them forever, and I've played the show, but that's only been from the standpoint of a ridiculously insane synth book. Of course people bring the title song and "Vanilla Ice Cream" and such into auditions, and you get through it, but sitting down and really working on them? Not till now, and it's most satisfying.

As ChasSmith knows, on one of those Remember Facebook pages someone posted a great drive down Hollywood Blvd., identifying the year as 1965.  I watched it and immediately corrected the year, which was 1966, specifically March of 1966 - I know that because it's very simple to identify when certain movies opened, in this case Madame X.  I think he got fooled (the guy who posted) by Thunderball playing at the Chinese, which did come out in 1965 but not until just before Christmas, so in this driving shot it's near the end of its three-month run there.

I very fondly remember seeing THUNDERBALL on Christmas Day, in the late afternoon at the newest theater in town, in Plantation, Florida. IMDb says it opened on the 21st in NYC, 22nd in USA. It was my first time to go to a movie on Christmas, and the excitement for the film was palpable, with full houses every showing. My piano teacher and his wife were coming out of the previous showing. Golden age of movie going, man. I never fail to savor this moment in history when watching the film.

Maybe because he was inside, wouldn't open the door, and they had to break in to find he was a drunk dumbass for simply not speaking to them?

Here's a link to the series:

Sorry, DR George, but to me it sounds as bad as the awful Clan of the Cave Bear series.  I hope you prove me wrong.

LOL  While I liked Clan of the Cave Bear this does look rather bad to me.

I wanted to like Clan of the Cave Bear. But no. It was so poorly plotted and written that I gave up mid-way through volume three.

Tonight's Carole Lombard feature is The Princess Comes Across with Fred MacMurray.

Can you tell I bought a six-movie set? The only one I had was the wonderful We're Not Dressing with Lombard, Bing Crosby, Ethel Merman, Burns and Allen, and more. I'll watch it again.

I came home tonight and did. I made Ben & Jerry's Pistachio Bread. Quite good, but the dough was so scant that I would need double for a regular loaf.

People love Harry and David but I find them too sweet, but then I find must chocolate truffles too sweet.  My guess is she will enjoy them.  I have sent them to friends who have asked for more.

Watched Nick Redman interview Stella Stevens in an extra to The Ballad of Cable Hogue. Great western. Hard to believe it was such a failure at the time of its original release.

I remember watching it back in college when I would sneak into the film classes to watch whatever they were showing on a big screen.

The author is doing the reading, and he uses words that he knows but doesn't know how to pronounce. Like louche, which he pronounces with a hard ch sound, not an sh.

Well, this is not good!  Costco cuts Polish hot dogs -- and tweeters are hangry (https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/costco-cuts-polish-hot-dogs-and-tweeters-are-hangry/ar-AAzR4h6?OCID=ansmsnnews11).  I don't know when they'll be removed from the local Costcos (if they haven't been already), but it'll be a sad day. :(

HERE (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/why-costco-food-court-no-151234898.html) is another article that says this about who's going to lose their dogs:

Quote
The company isn’t making this change at all of its stores, though. Reports claim that stores kicking the polish hot dog to the curb are located in and around the Seattle area. Costco food courts in other parts of the U.S. are still carrying the polish hot dog.
