Nice photos DR GEORGE.

We had a good pick up rehearsal last night and onward to our second week starting with our show tonight......only four more days to deal with a person who knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING....and who tries to talk to me a LOT!

I have to sit down.  I try to rescue anyone I see that she has cornered into a conversation.....only four more days!

I started programming the New! Improved!* Keyboard 2 book for ANNIE yesterday.

*The MTI keyboard books, PC book, AND full score are badly conceived and notated re what’s intended to be played by the keyboards. (Not easy to explain.) But we’re also greatly expanding what K2 plays, which will include some delicate string fill. I don’t love doing that, but I’m very conservative with it. It’ll be subtle.

So, we have band rehearsal and sitzes to probe on Sunday. Hooterville, here we come.

I've found a gelato where they throw extra stuff like chocolate chips in them tend to taste as good as ice creams like Breyer's, and at times have fewer calories.  But then I seem to make up for the saved calories with cookies since gelato doesn't satisfy like ice cream.
Title: Re: WHAT WE DID FOR LOVE

But Breyer's somehow never satisfies like Hog and Daz.  And now that those pints are 14 ounces rather than 16 ounces, it's so tempting to convince myself that when 14 ounces disappear in two days, that hey, it's not THAT bad, it wasn't a full pint.  :)

BK, I can't imagine the person who used your phrase would deny where it came from if it were pointed out to them.

I use "oy and vey" a lot or "sundried" and others whenever possible, am very happy to say who I got it from.  Sometimes, I can't do that smoothly, but I attribute its source where I smoothly can.

The weirdest tag line by the "Over Here!" advertising people was calling it (in the 1970s while the Andrews Sisters were seen as the draw IIRC "An Explosion of Knockout Dancing" - I recall Mom saying I didn't even know the Andrews Sisters were thought of as dancers.  :)

Oh, the delirious rhyming! "we're khaki-wacky for the GI?" form the title song.

"I'm another Krupa heading up a supa' band."

Was the show positioning itself oddly, or did the star contracts just run out?

We saw "A Chorus Line" at the Shubert such a short time after "Over Here" -  Mom loved "Chorus Line" but hadn't really felt remotely  prepared by the press for the frank language.

I know the point of catchphrases is to have them catch on - what is it, fish - and I love doing them and seeing them and they don't really have to be attributed - big happy pants - but that wasn't really a catchphrase, just my way of talking about people who pimp out their stuff on Facebook all the time - you know, getting someone to visit their site - I could do it every day on Facebook but I just don't and never have.  I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the times I have.

She and Dad had specifically chosen "Over Here" for the family over "A little Night Music" (which had already moved from the Shubert to the Majestic) - they'd felt the sexual aspects of Little Night Music might confound me at that age.  But by a year or so later, they felt I'd be moire than fine seeing "Chorus Line" with Mom there.  I wonder if the frankness of "Little night Music" had been better covered in the press than "Chorus Line" or if the year from age 14 to age 15 just made such a difference in their minds.

I think one of the first parody lyrics I ever wrote that got performed was called "Over Her!" - a fake-news  parody of "Over Here" - it was a totally-pretend idea of the Andrews Sisters being annoyed with Janie Sell for walking away with their show in terms of awards and stuff.

For the benefit of the parody stalkers. :). here it is

ANDREWS SISTERS sing "OVER HER" about everyone fawning over Janie Sell even more than over the Sisters: (tune of "Over Here" title song)

Now we’re here singing and we’re dancing to that Sherman score
Huffin’ and a-wheezin’ til we can’t take no more
But all our hard work has gotten shot right to hell
‘Cause of that young siren known as Janie Sell

We give our all
And what a switch
Critics all went clacky-wacky over that b*tch

We're over her, ick-icky-poo
We hate her guts ‘cause she's stealing our show
We're over her, ick-icky-poo
She makes us nuts and we wish she would blow

While Miss Sell steals scenes so sweetly
We sisters are completely
Over her
Ick-ick-icky-poo

We hate her
Can’t tell you how much we hate her
All the critics want to date her
We’re getting’ bored
Watch her win our Tony award

We’re over her, ick-icky-poo
We thought this show’s a big comeback for us
We’re over her, ick-icky-poo
The hatred grows as they’re makin’ a fuss

Though we’ll do our bis-tu-shein-ing
You’ll hear us both complaining
We’re over her
Ick-ick-icky-poo!

ChasSmith - delicate string fills in ANNIE?  Since when?  It's one violin.  Or is this some Keith Levinson redo?

Right. It’s “violin” and “cello” in the full score, except in a few songs where the designation is “violins” for no apparent reason. For this production we have everything but the strings (we do have stand-up bass), hence the “delicate fills” because I’m not in favor of bleating out solo string passages on a synth. The synth book even has a few full “chamber strings” passages. None of us has any faith in the rental materials being very close to the original.

What Haagen did was make the carton smaller rather than raise the price, at the time,  It has gone up since then, at least in our nearby markets.

Building inspection #1 is over. There's good news and bad news.

The "crack in the ceiling" that the manager recalled seeing during the inspection last December is actually a large area of damaged plaster in my kitchen ceiling, the result of multiple roof leaks (the leaks were fixed, but not the interior). I estimate it at 8-10 sq ft. The manager has decided that it needs to be fixed properly, ie, old plaster removed and drywall installed.  That's the best solution from their standpoint, but not from mine. Last December the owner thought that a piece of plywood could be installed instead. It wouldn't look good, but I wouldn't have to move out. Under this plan I will have to move out. I am currently negotiating some sort of compensation. They are not willing to pay hotel bills, but I do need to check California law. If anyone here has any insight into this, please let me know.

A pint of ice cream is now just 14 ounces? What's the world coming to?

What Haagen did was make the carton smaller rather than raise the price, at the time,  It has gone up since then, at least in our nearby markets.

Standard operating procedure, sadly.

Great ice cream shots, Jane!

Flaws in presentation, to me, make everything look homemade and personal.

Thanks.  I suspect they did not push the ice cream all the way down into that little cone like I do.  Then I kind of pile it up with the end result it looks a mess.

And the good news? They've agreed to replace the decrepit showerhead.

They have not given me the dates yet, making it difficult to make alternative arrangements. They want the work done in the next 5 weeks. They've known about this since last December, but now it's a rush. Sigh.

Both surgical spots -- where they took the graft tissue and where they grafted it in -- are still numb. It is always going to be that way, I guess. It makes eating ice cream feel weird -- not feeling the cold.

The entire morning was spent dealing with our problem person, who simply does not know how to play well with others.  He was e-mailing the theater privately - they, of course, know the deal and added me to the string saying Bruce must be included in all e-mails as all final decisions are his.  I then responded with a simple, yes, the stage manager and I copied on any e-mail sent and that I was not giving up one more INCH of playing space - he of course said basically it is what it is.  I told him that it, in fact, that it will be what works for ALL of us and that I'd already given up five FEET of playing space, which is going to make things very tight for us, and that I was through with my comprising and bending.  And that there would be no need for any further e-mails.  Then he e-mails the sound people on his own - that was it for our producer who wrote the City folks - I, too, responded to THAT in my customary fashion.  Our tech guy at the theater came up with two different ways to slightly reconfigure the space and those are the two options on the table.  I said I was fine with option two but whichever worked was fine by me.  I then reiterated that no e-mails are to go to the tech people without coming to me and my stage manager first, because he just endlessly confuses everyone with his e-mails. His litany of "this is how it's done" is boring and it's not his show - he is sixteen minutes of a two-hour show.

When I got past that, we did our noon rehearsal, which went very well, and then I did the lighting script, which also has all the mic needs and where things happen in it.  So, that's all the major grunt work out of the way, I think.

Show is on Saturday.  Did I really say Friday in the notes?  Today in an e-mail I said Sunday.  This is where I am at, and it's mostly due to you-know-who.  He chose option two, BTW, but never acknowledged me in any e-mail after I took the hard line.  Since I was also on the sound person's e-mail and they worked out whatever they did, which I'm fine with at the moment, I wrote back telling them both that I have spent the last quarter of a century producing over 200 CDs and that my ears are pretty good and that I will be all over the sound.  And that includes having them turn it off if I'm given any grief :)

She has been advised that she is indeed my assistant and that she will be taking direction from me...

Good.  I am glad you like her.

I never realized how partial I am to jazz sax players.

I like them.

Good evening.

You are, of course, correct, BK.  And he is only sixteen minutes of the show.  But be reasonable, BK, Richard is the guest of honor.   ;)

I had the lasagna, which was good.  It wasn’t as good as mine, but it was tasty.

I was so full when I got home, that I did nothing else but check my emails before I dozed off.

I don't think that it really exists, so I'm going to JoAnn Fabric (https://www.joann.com/) to see if they have any inexpensive pink fur.  I looked online and there's a sale of "UP TO 75% OFF" their "ENTIRE STOCK FABRIC"! :D

HOPEFULLY, they have some pink fur that I can just glue onto a normal pad of paper.  We'll see!  Be back later.

Well, I decided not to get pink fur...it was all MUCH too expensive, and I couldn't get anything less than a yard, so no fur.  I did get a pad of paper that has a pink cover, so that should be good enough. :)

Melissa Manchester will be with us tomorrow - so what are the chances that bookending the rehearsal day we have two Harlettes?  Melissa was one of the originals, and Linda Hart was one in the late 1970s.

Can you get Bette??  She's out of Hello, Dolly!, so maybe she's free!

;)

Will TCB or George save the night and get us to page 7?

Not I.  Thank Tom and others for that.  I didn't logon to HHW in time.
