Well, you've read the notes, the notes played well with others, and now it is time for you to post until the plays well with others cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HALCYON!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
First post after Dino, after BK.

Tom, I had just checked the Replacements information (https://www.ibdb.com/replacements/hello-dolly-507877) on Hello, Dolly!'s IBDB page last night when I saw your post. I forgot that she was going to go back into the show and had checked when it would be, and it turns out that she just rejoined a couple of days ago. So, you were right...she's not available. ::)
-
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Today is Thatch's birthday. He is one year-old!
-
DR Laura, what wonderful periodontal news!
-
DR Vixmom, the news on your new assistant is great. I hope she's an asset in deleting your workload. However I have two bits of advice:
Never forget Eve Harrington and never turn your back!
-
DR JohnG, since King Lear is my favorite Shakespeare, I want to know what production were you watching.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy birthday, Thatch! And many more.
-
DR JohnG, since King Lear is my favorite Shakespeare, I want to know what production were you watching.
Mike Kallen is Lear. David Groh of Rhoda is the bastard son.
-
T.O.D.
Yes, when I was in school, I had to deal with a lot of bullies.
But, as an adult, I learned something very valuable:
If you stand up to them, they back down because most of them are cowards.
-

Thanks! I pass.

Happy Birthday, Thatchula!

Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.
Thanks to DR FJL for posting that Melissa Manchester clip....that song was a real phenomenon! Everyone loved it! I used it one year at the Dance Convention....one half hour to teach a routine to over a hundred kids....
It was great....and I had more requests for that choreography than for any other dance I ever taught - close second Olivia Newton-John's "Physical."
-
Good news from DR LAURA.
Re purposing the tables seems like a great idea DR GINNY.
-
I am about 2/3rds done with moving my clothes from my OLD closet to the new closet.....so I am taking two bags of shirts and trousers to Goodwill this morning....where I may look around just to see if I need anything.
Hopefully in the next few weeks, I won't buy back something I take in.
-
Bullies abounded in my day....but I could ignore them for the most part...then they usually moved on to other targets who created more drama.
-
Good morning, all.
-
And a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to that dear little THATCH!
-
I must have had a few bullies in earlier school years or maybe even in later ones, but I probably managed to avoid and ignore them. For the most part, I think they would eventually get bored and seek better targets. As far as physical bullying is concerned, I might be forgetting something but I think I can say I never suffered any such thing. And I've never been in a physical fight in my life.

I love thinking back at a time when everyone was willing to imagine/pretend that "Let's get physical" was about physical fitness and working out, because of that clever MTV video. (Just like the YMCA in its time, you can hang out with all the boys was about getting in shape in the weight room, wasn't it? :). )

Yes. And I don’t need to think about it.

Two!

PG-13 alert for this post:
TCB said last night: "I had the lasagna, which was good. It wasn’t as good as mine, but it was tasty."
That sounds like a variation on a line I heard in a Ron Jeremy film, maybe "No one's lasagna is as good as yours."
only I think there it may have been linguini.

Thursday morning greetings! This has never happened before, but both my book groups meet today. The noon group is discussing Ivan Doig's English Creek, which I found very boring and only read about 1/3. The evening group's selection is Kevin Kwan's Crazy Rich Asians, and we're going to China Cottage for dinner before meeting at Jan's in Dayton.
-
Happy Birthday to Thatch, whose name was in today's crossword puzzle in our local newspaper.

I will not tell him that. Annabelle would be too jealous.

I loved ENGLISH CREEK almost as much as DANCING AT THE RASCAL FAIR. I get lost in he flow of Doug's writing.

DR GINNY you're gonna be lousy with culture today....

DR Ginny what did you think of the book which prompted a nice dinner before the meeting?

It had its moments and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

Okay, break's over. Back to the programming. I'm one-third of the way through the score, and would like to achieve two-thirds by this evening.
BK referenced this yesterday, and I've been thinking that the sound of the original ANNIE pit must have been pure magic. I probably posted this a few years ago, but since I'm reviewing it... This a note from a friend who conducted it on Broadway for a while, I think during Sarah Jessica Parker's reign:
Hi Charles -
Yes, it WAS an RMI - which had only 2 basic sounds, each was available as 8' and 4'. The closest sound to the opening of "Hard Knock" would be a mix of 8' harpsichord and 8' lute.
Have fun - it's a good score.
BTW, the show was originally written for 3 reeds, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, guitar, bass (doubling tuba), Piano (doubling RMI and celestette (a terrible "clangy-sounding" miniature keyboard made by Jenco), 2 percussion, 1 SOLO violin, and 1 SOLO cello. Any parts beyond those were added for subsequent productions, and are unnecessary doublings. (All the flute was originally on Reed 1, but I understand that there is a separate flute book included with the rental, which is nothing more than a copy of the flute parts on reed 1.

Will you go as a group once it is released?
-
TOD:
I was bullied a lot in high school, and I mostly ignored them because I thought that's what you're supposed to do - take the high road and show you're more mature. Finally, someone shoved me in the hallway and I turned around and shoved her back, and she never bothered me again. And I thought, "wow, if I'd known it would be that easy, I would have done that a lot sooner."

I keep noticing things in that clip. First the "Gay Power" lights on CBS nationwide tee-vee in 1973 when they transition to the gay bar. Then Eve clearly studying Margo, even duplicating her dance moves step for step. (In the film, it was subtle, but for the musical, I guess they knew everyone came in knowing that Eve was plotting.)
Today, I'm again reminded of the old adage "if you put a gun in the first act, it better go off in the second or third act" but here it's if you put a swing in the gay bar, it better get used by the end of the number!
-
Meaning that swing hanging from the ceiling, of course, not a "swing" chorus person. :)
-
And I keep marveling: the dancers in that 1970s clip are regular-looking guys, just terrific talented dancers. in almost all Broadway choruses today, all the men and women seem to be stunning looking.
-
DR GINNY you're gonna be lousy with culture today....
I like that expression about culture! So much better than this Neil Simon line from LITTLE ME as recounted by Frank Rich, which already had felt non-PC in 1982,even before the expression "P.C." came into such modern common usage in the late 1980s. :)
QUOTE FROM FRANK RICH ON "LITTLE ME" IN 1982:
Mr. Coco, almost lost in the folds of a mountainous smoking jacket, is fine as a curmudgeonly, leering billionaire who courts Belle by telling her, ''I'd like to teach you culture until you couldn't walk straight.''

I just noticed that, too! Today, they'd probably not be used a scene like that for any show. :-\

Fred or Larry, did you hear about this? Steam pipe explosion rocks Manhattan's Flatiron District (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/steam-pipe-explosion-rocks-manhattans-flatiron-district/ar-AAAiu36)! :o
-
I don't know how close either of you are to that area (if at all), but it sounds pretty scary. Fortunately, the article says, "Buildings were being evacuated but there were no immediate reports of injuries." Whew!

I did. That's the area where I see my ophthalmologist and podiatrist.

It's 60 blocks southeast of me/

Fifth Ave. near 21st St. That's one block south of my HMO office.
-
Oh dear....vibes to the HHW Noo Yorkers!
-
Lots of entertaining posts this afternoon.
I am getting ready to head out in a couple of hours for the fifth performance of THE MOUSETRAP.
Ran the dishwasher and now doing a load of laundry. The machines must think somebody around here is on vacation....or at least they are.
"Why don't you get out of here, Finchley?"
-
Topic of the Day: I can't recall ever being bullied. I'm sure that I tried to stay under the radar, but I had my choir friends and we all hung out together, for the most part, so I think I was fairly safe.
-
I'm up, I'm up - I got up at eleven with close to eight hours of sleep, but had to dive in the usual plethora of show-related e-mails, none of which, thank goodness, were from the person who doesn't play nice with others. Now I have to shower so I'm ready for our first rehearsal in forty-five minutes.
-
I was bullied relentlessly in junior high school and to a lesser extent in high school. The junior high incidents are all in Kritzerland.
-
Oh dear....vibes to the HHW Noo Yorkers!
Ditto!
-
We're Ok and checked with friends in that area.
Has anyone checked in with Ben and Ant?
-
TOD: From youth, the one I recall was this kid Noah, who was the son of a locally prominent politician. I never understood his reason. When I finally told my dad, my dad called the kid's father the politician, and it all stopped.
And not much until dealing with Ann Miner, in my 50s, All That Chat's Perle Mesta from Wexford, PA. But where Perle Mesta was United States Ambassador to Luxembourg, Ann Miner would ideally be Ambassador to hell.
-
Good afternoon / evening.
-
A very nice day today in the Northwest.
-
Unfortunately, I hardly slept last night, so I am all dragged out today.
-
I wish I had a good excuse for not sleeping, but I don't.
-
Happy Birthday to dear Thatch!
-
T.O.D.
Very much so, but verbally only. I did learn how painful words can be.
-
I had to learn to deal with the word "faggot," at the same time I was dealing with the fact that that was what people would most likely be calling me.
-
Being in the Drama department didn't help.
-
Good evening, from the parking lot where an ANNIE rehearsal will be taking place that I got asked to step in and play. Which is fine, it’ll be fun, but there goes my two-thirds completion on the programming. I’m at half. It should be finished by Sunday, though, which will be nice since that’s sitzprobe day.
-
Being in the Drama department didn't help.
This surprises me.
-
I had to learn to deal with the word "faggot," at the same time I was dealing with the fact that that was what people would most likely be calling me.
This does as well. How old were you when it began?
-
I would say I was bullied per say but I was criticized way too often regarding my looks & told I was too fat. It didn't help that my mother gave me horrible hair perms and cuts. Beginning in Jr. High I was not permitted to wear more fashionable clothing which set me up for more teasing. Of course looking like a baby didn't help either.
Bruce I am sure you remember how fat & unattractive I was in high school, a total chub.
Funny, that same "fat" stomach suddenly got compliments on how good it looked after I had children.
-

Why would that surprise you?

That word, I would say, was during high school. Prior to that, the word of the day was "sissy."

I hope DR Vixmom's day went well.

Good evening.

Happy Birthday, to our Dear Little Thatch!

Caveat - very non-P.C.
Recalling Charles Ludlum’s subversive drag “Camille” (which played off-Broadway in the Village, of course)
MARGUERITE (CHARLES LUDLUM): I’m cold, Nanine, throw another faggot on the fire!
NANINE: There are no more faggots in the house.
MARGUERITE (Ludlum breaking character): No faggots in the house? Open the window, Nanine. See if there are any on the street.

My Echo Show has arrived. I don't think I'm going to like to very much for things like music. It only plays songs, not albums. And only what I've bought through Amazon.
-
But I might like other features, including the alarm clock and the phone help.
-
J.B. is very noisy tonight.
-
I don't think he likes my watching more of this King Lear.
-
I don't like it much myself.
-
I still have another hour left.
-
I'm ready for the weekend.
-
Gratuitous post No. 100!
-
I started listening to Demelza, the second of the Poldark novels. There's a different narrator and she whispers too much.
-
I'm enjoying David Sedaris' Calypso a lot. It's some of his best writing.
-
Good night, all.
-
DR Vixmom, the news on your new assistant is great. I hope she's an asset in deleting your workload. However I have two bits of advice:
Never forget Eve Harrington and never turn your back!
She can have it... I left the office tonight at 10:30 pm
-
But I might like other features, including the alarm clock and the phone help.
Don't forget the market and other shopping lists.

I really like this show.

Good evening.

I'm watching the last episode of the first season of The Expanse.
I’ve never heard of that show. What network is it on?
-
Being in the Drama department didn't help.
This surprises me.
Why would that surprise you?
Being in drama was cool.
Perhaps being in drama was cool when you grew up that close to Hollywood, but, I can assure you that being in drama in Tacoma was not cool.
-
I am currently living in a real-life version of THE EXORCIST II.
-
There have been a couple of flies in the house the last few days.
-
This afternoon, I looked up at the halfway open blinds in the dining room, and there was over 20 flies on the window and the blinds.
-
I've known Jane forever and never saw her too heavy.
-
I quickly drove to the store and bought some fly-killer spray.
-
Crazy day with one disgusting happening that I'll talk about in the notes - nothing to do with the show. I had In-N-Out after rehearsal.
-
I'm watching the last episode of the first season of The Expanse.
I’ve never heard of that show. What network is it on?
SyFy. They just finished broadcasting season 3, but announced that it's being cancelled. :(
-
However, I'd heard that Amazon might pick up the fourth season! :D
-
Listened to music and then went and saw our act one finale, which is going to be great and, thanks to the dope, a little too tight on space.
-
I came home, put away all food and snacks, started the dishwasher, and then gave the dining room a good spraying.
-
Then Nick and I went to the bedroom.
-
I hoped that I might have done the deed in one spraying, but a half hour ago six or seven flies found their way into the bedroom.
-
This afternoon, I looked up at the halfway open blinds in the dining room, and there was over 20 flies on the window and the blinds.
:o
:P
-
I sprayed the bedroom, so I will probably die during the night.
-
But, if I go, these damn flies better go with me.
-
I can’t figure out where the flies are coming from.
-
I have the balcony slider open all day, but I have the screen closed.
-
Occasionally, a fly will come in when I open the front door.
-
But over twenty flies??
-
I have no idea where they came from, or how to get rid of them.
-
I've known Jane forever and never saw her too heavy.
Exactly. Stupid me listening to the few.
-
But, if I go, these damn flies better go with me.
;D

I have no idea where they came from, or how to get rid of them.
~~~Flies-Be-Gone Vibes for TCB!!~~~
-
DR TCB we had the same problem this Spring. Google it and you will find all sorts of ways they can get in. Keith finally noticed a hole outside. Once the building manager plugged the hole we returned to just the occasional fly inside.
-
I hate it when I get even just a few flies in my place. :P
-
Well, then don’t come visit me.
