ASK BK DAY - Why did Roz Kind drop out of the show?

She was struggling with allergies at all her rehearsals and she got into her head about it and that was that - at sound check she was fine but she was, by that point, a complete wreck and it was best for all of us to move on.

Today, I have three, count 'em, THREE different meetings, and I think the only time I have for my lunch break is right at noon, which is the worst time to go anywhere because SO MANY other people go right at noon, too. I don't like to go until after at least 1:15.  By then, most places are manageable.  And I don't want to have to wait until after my last meeting is scheduled to be done at 4:00.  But I'll go when I have time.  I could have a snack at noon to tide me over until later.  I've done that before.  I'll bring something, just in case.

Jane - Have you read "Armada" - which I think is the next book Ernest Cline wrote after "Ready Player One?"  The synopsis says the main character is a really big fan of 80s movies like Tron and Last Starfighter.

If you read "Armada," can you tell - does its plot seems to use Last Starfighter elements?

I haven't read it and hadn't planned to.  Maybe I will now.  Reading the blurb it certainly appears to also have Last Starfighter elements.

It almost feels like by actually referring to the work as a character being inspired by the work, it may be a way some folks get around copyright.

I remember an episode of one of the LAW AND ORDERs that used plot points from "Strangers on a Train" and seemed to get away with it by saying the perpetrators had been inspired (gotten their criminal idea) from having watched the movie "Strangers on a Train."

Looks like there was a decision in the case of "The Shape of Water" and the Paul Zindel play from all those years ago.  the judge found only minor similarities.

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-44951050

Some commenters (no one I heard of) are wondering if there might be a basis for the Zuindek estate filing their case overseas, like in Europe where they say authors rights are broader.

I guess no one can deny the facts of what's actually similar (like even the laundry basket she tries to take the creature away in), but only a judge can determine if that gives rise to a claim under the law.

I'm up, I'm up - maybe six hours of sleep, thanks to the endless ringing of the phone starting at nine this morning.  The new phone I got has a blocking feature, which I use every time a bogus call comes in - but that doesn't stop the phone from ringing once while the block goes into effect.

Nice review in Audio File Magazine for my one-woman play, LOMBARD, portrayed by Kathleen Godwin:

Narrator Kathleen Godwin breathes life into this spirited, richly detailed play about actress Carole Lombard, that begins on the eve of her death in a plane crash. Lombard was known as a screwball comedienne-movie star who had the vocabulary of a sailor. As Lombard, Godwin speaks directly to listeners, adding intimacy. She also talks to herself; for example, when she rambles, she utters, "Shut up, Carole." Listeners will relish hearing Hollywood-insider details such as the revelation that Lombard's husband, Clark Gable, was a tightwad. Sound effects add authenticity. Most moving are the lovely transitions to the past, denoted by a few musical notes, when Lombard shares childhood memories. Despite its sad ending, Lombard's story is a pleasurable listening experience. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2018]

The Wacky Noodles with ground beef was a rousing success.  I made about seven ounces of noodles and about six ounces of ground beef.  I had a nice helping but realized if I ate all of it it would be pushing the calories boundary - so Grant came over.  I had a small second helping and he had the rest - two large helpings.  So that means I had about three ounces of pasta and the ground beef, so that was fine.  It really was good.

So, this happened:  back when BK mentioned the Swingle Singers' CD that he was listening to, I ordered this version of Jazz Sebastian Bach (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000046WP/) on June 18, 2018.  Including tax and shipping, it only cost $6.80 and was expected to arrive by July 19 from England.  Well, it didn't.  So, last Friday (July 20), I sent an e-mail to the seller through Amazon saying that I never received the CD and could I get another one.  They replied saying that they're very sorry and will refund my money.  That's fine with me.  I reordered another copy at slightly less than my original order ($6.39 instead of $6.80).  Well, my original order just arrived today!! :o
Title: Re: THE DAY FROM HELL

So, now what should I do?  Do I contact the original seller and tell them that I actually finally received the CD for which they just yesterday refunded my money?  Or do I keep it and the second copy and not worry about it?  It came all the way from England and only cost a grand total $6.80 USD.  That's really not enough to worry about, right?

Is NY extra pretty after Thanksgiving and decorated for Christmas?  We were there in December years ago when we first moved to NJ but only during the day.

The link says something about a limited run to October 28.

Oh oh.  I had better ask about this.  They were the ones who suggested late Nov or Dec for a shared birthday celebration.  Thanks for pointing out this fact.

Apparently it rained almost the whole time I was gone.  There were some lingering showers today.  Temps about 30 or more degrees cooler than Las Vegas but the humidity still makes it unpleasant.

Yesterday was shopping and banking day, but I didn't do either, so I did both this morning....that's done for awhile...

It's still a bit difficult because my Mom always met me and held the screen door open for me while I brought the bags in....miss her.....

Vibes of peace.

Ditto!

From me too!

Having nothing to do with anything else, after watching those wonderful videos:  Brent Barrett can move as well at 60 as he did in his 30s?  This is not fair to mere mortals!

Have I mentioned more than 100 times that I shared a cab with him?  :)

Listening to the Stan Getz bossa nova/samba albums - these were the perfect example of being in the right place at the right time and they made Getz a household name.  These albums all crossed over and did really well.  They sound incredible to this day.

Love 'em.

Nice rehearsal tonight.

Of course, not exactly where it was supposed to take place. Since it’s an outdoor venue and all, and it’s raining.

But this ANNIE cast sounds damn good. Likewise, the 10-piece band. Would that it were the original fifteen.

I watched PADDINGTON 2 tonight. Cute, but I prefer the original. The bear's expressions in the original are just soooo cute! Less of that in P2.

Still listening to Freddie Hubbard - finished his Claus Ogerman album, which has three great tracks on it, and am now listening to an album he did with the wonderful orchestrator/arranger Allyn Ferguson - really good.

I also found in the garage a Rupert Holmes album I have no memory of called Scenario - I believe this was only released briefly in Japan - I've written him to see if he owns it and if so I'm thinking maybe we'll issue it.

The last surgery was so depressing, because she actually felt worse after the surgery, than she did before the procedure.

One major setback.  Yesterday afternoon, she threw up a little, but when she did, it popped her eardrum.  When that happened, the excess spinal fluid in her brain started to pour out of ear.
