Title: THE GROUND BEEF EFFECT
Post by: bk on July 26, 2018, 12:02:49 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the ground beef effect, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - frankly, they don't want to know from the ground beef effect.

Fun stuff - I found a Joni Mitchell CD from 2000 called Both Sides Now - in it, her producer brags how Joni had this absolutely brilliant and completely unique idea that had never been done before - to tell a love story from its beginning to its end and starting the cycle over again, using existing songs to tell the story.  I mean he is bragging about this.  I guess the little fact that I had done exactly that three years prior with A Broadway Love Story with Christiane Noll is just a pesky little detail to be ignored.  Sorry, chump, I got there first and frankly did it better, because the Mitchell album, while well meaning and well orchestrated by Vince Mendoza, doesn't really work as ours does.  It took me seven months to figure out A Broadway Love Story so it was really telling a story with a real through-line and character, with musical ideas from one song appearing in another.  I would have to put that album in my top five of all I've produced.  But yes, Joni's idea was absolutely brilliant, completely unique and had never been done before.

Speaking of CHRISTOPHER ROBIN, there was an article online about a year ago, that said Richard Sherman was going to write three new songs for the film.

What happened to that?

He wrote three new songs for the film.  Knowing them as I do, I'm sure they've completely reharmonized them and made them sound like Alan Menken, which is exactly what they did with his A Kiss Goodnight.

Jrand - Is the couple the center two?

That guy actually looks (not that looks should matter onstage, it's the best actor, OK, got that out of the way) more relatable for the "New York wisecracking" of Paul than the perfect-looking Redford.

Thursday morning greetings!  I'm about to don my painting clothes and put the second coat on the frame of the kitchen entryway.  When that's finished, we're putting the painting project on hold until we get back from Michigan in mid-August.  That's when we'll really tear up the living/dining room to paint the walls.  We may be done by Thanksgiving...

How can people be so damned dumb that they can't read a rehearsal schedule....

I explained it twice....made it as simple as possible....and of course the email comes....Do I have to be at rehearsal tonight, I only have one line at the end of the page?

NO, DUMMY......I told you to look at how the scenes are lettered....the page numbers don't mean anything for the content of the rehearsal....it's French Scenes!  And anyway we're not even doing THAT scene tonight.

Everyone's character name has a list of the LETTERS of the scenes you are in....and the scenes we are rehearsing are listed by letter on the date of the rehearsal....

And of course it's the idiot who isn't on Facebook so it all has to be done by email.....

SO I will have to explain it ALL over to him again....on Monday....if he can read the schedule and know he is supposed to be there....

I hate stupid people.....

I phoned my cousin this morning. She and I are in different political parties, so I've always avoided discussing politics with her. That was fine until the last election. I avoided calling her for a while, knowing that she has some very strong views which I don't agree with. I thought, though, by now we were OK. I was telling her about the problems here at the apartment when I happened to use the word "Hispanic." OMG! My cousin went into a MEGA rant. I stopped her and simply said that she and I cannot discuss politics. She agreed. Then she said, "But you agree with <xyz>, don't you?" (No.) "That's politics." "That's not politics!" "Yes, it's politics." We were finally able to get out of this loop and discuss something else. It was really kind of funny. Talk about "hot button" issues!

A co-worker was on a "reality" show, High School Reunion (https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0032UR0YE/ref=atv_yvl_list_pr_2), about 8 years ago and he said that the producers had them specifically create problems and issues that they wouldn't have actually done.  It seemed like it was more of a melodramatic improv sketch show based on the producers' ideas than any kind of show based on reality.

I have no idea how her mother's family is taking it.  She told an interviewer it was just her sister and single mom - I bet Macbeth liked that! - on a farm, playing in the barn, no friends.  Her mother was working for a bank and raising and selling horses, Andalusians, I think, and involved with too many lousy boyfriends.

I've never seen this show. But after I saw this post I went to Slice (Canadian channel that airs The Real Housewives) to look at Emily's bio. Right under it was this week's show. They put each Housewife's name up every time she has a segment. So I watched a few minutes of her part of the show. OMG!  She is at a fancy anniversary dinner with her husband Shane. And they are arguing because she wants to have another baby and he doesn't. She said that she is an attorney and that he comes from money. And I think that she said that her parents were divorced.

Had a fun rehearsal with Kay, then lunched with the stage manager of the Sherman show to thank him for his great work.  But Jerry's may be done for me - we each had a grilled cheese sandwich - for his side that comes with it he had fries and I had the little Caesar.  We each had a Diet Coke.  Total cost with tip?  $48.  I mean that is obscene and I'm done.

Oh, my! :o I can't imagine that much for such a small meal...unless it was a whole plate-sized grilled cheese sandwich.

But I must.  I'm off to my sister's to move a couch from her backyard (yes, it's been outside for quite a while) to the front.  She's getting it reupholstered and the movers are coming tomorrow, so it needs to be ready before the morning.

Be back later.

I just learned that we had a solar eclipse on July 12 and a lunar eclipse is due tomorrow. We also started a new Mercury retrograde today. I expect that has been why there's been such weirdness.

Listening to music since then.  Right now it's a fun album with Mel Torme and Margaret Whiting singing songs from Broadway's 1960 season - so we get Wildcat, Do Re Mi, Camelot, and Irma la Douce.  Great charts by Russell Garcia in faboo stereo.

That sounds great.

It was a touring production of a black comedy drama about a marriage that's falling apart. Little promotion meant the house was only full with about 400 people. But they were boisterous and really into it. They even booed the guy who played the soon-to-be ex-husband.

what was weird about it was that a scene would be going along and all of a sudden, one of the minor characters would burst into song. Yet this was not a musical. And at the end, as a minor character sang the last song, the playwright came out and introduced herself.

Watching Nickelodeon for the first time in at least 20 years. Bogdanovich recycles too much that worked in movies before. There's a lengthy bit about swapped suitcases straight from What's Up, Doc? and a scene with Tatum O'Neal out of Paper Moon.

There's also some historical puns that don't work, such as the scene in which Leo and Frank are introduced to each other. And in case you didn't get it, Leo Frank is pronounced together. I'm waiting for a Mary and a Phelan to show up.

Yes. Humid. Did I mention that this ANNIE is at an outdoor venue, for which the term ‘rustic’ might over-describe the conditions?

I just spoke to my brother Randy.  The Macbeths are in an uproar.  The Real Housewives of Orange County is now running on Bravo and my dumbass niece Emily told viewers last week that she grew up poor with subsidies, not a word that her father was president of a company and her mother's family on both sides were two of Middletown's first families and loaded.

And that her sister Sara was a surrogate mother to her 3 children.  Shane has a total of 5 children and they were arguing because she wants more?

DR elmore you have us curious now ;)

Somehow a damn fly got in the house.  It's only flown by me about four times and I haven't been quick enough to end its sorry little life.  But when it's not flying by I cannot figure out where the damn thing's gone.

They are sneaky lime that.  Keith is an expert at catching them and releasing them outside.

Listening to the faboo Phase 4 recording of Annie Get Your Gun, my favorite Annie on record - I love Merman on this recording, the supporting cast is fun, and the Stanley Black orchestra sounds incredible on this album.  I'd love to get my hands on the original album masters just to hear them - it sounds like this could even be better with a mastering engineer who was tops.

One of my favorite English cast albums of an English show is Passion Flower Hotel, a book and musical that no one today would touch with a ten-foot pole - too bad that, but that's the world now.  Puritanism in all its ugly glory.
