Well, you've read the notes, the notes had two words never used before - Haji Baba - and now it is time for you to post until the Haji Baba cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HYPNOPEDIA!
-
First post after BK.
-
I have never heard of HALI BABA. Is it the same story as Ali Baba? Who is in this movie, and why is it so terrible?
-
Is the big announcement going to be about the end of the Kritzerland shows?
-
Good grief! Questions, questions, questions. And it isn’t even Wednesday.
-
Great opening remarks for the Richard Sherman event, BK!
-
Haji Baba starred John Derek, I think. It came out in 1954, but it must have been on the bottom half of a double bill there as a reissue because I wouldn't have seen it that early - more likely 1956.
-
The big Kritzerland announcement is two-fold - you know half of it, which is we're going to 100 shows and will finish our monthly shows when that occurs. However, my thought is that we'll come back for a series of "specials" maybe three or four times a year.
-
Wow, that is terrific.
-
The opening remarks will have to wait for the big computer tomorrow.
-
Good night.
-
Goodnight, Tom.
-
I've been watching TV. Today, I'm going to the movies again with my friend Margo, then I have to do some more props shopping (maybe a little before the movie). In the evening, a couple of friends who live in my condo complex are throwing a sushi party. I don't do sushi, but they said it's okay to bring any kind of food that's rolled up, so I'll bring the leftover taco stuff and make burritos. They're rolled up! It should be fun. :D
-
And now, off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I discovered Thatch eating flakes of dried paint this morning. This worries me.
-
I have errands to run.
-
Good morning, all.

DR Elmore, we’ve had a similar concern with Poe off and on since he was a kitten. He’s nearly 16 now and we still have to guard against leaving certain types of things lying around. Our vet explained way back then that he’d seen “pica cats” (which was my introduction to that meaning of the word), and that Poe seemed to be one.
Do your best to rid yourself of the flaking paint. That’s easy to say; doing so might be difficult or impossible. But also just mention it to his vet next time you’re talking to them. Not sure there’s anything much you can do about it. In our case, it’s certain kinds of plastic that are attractive to Poe, and he (thank God) threw up a bunch of it once which scared the bejesus out of me.
-
The Ben Bagleys are a delight. I needed that last night.

I had an idea. I sprayed vinegar all over the object with the peeling paint, especially the sections where he's chewing. I think he might be a pica cat; the first six months of his life were nothing but stress .
-
Good morning,all.
-
I don’t want to get up. But I have work to do before ushering later and dancing tonight.

TOD
Walking My Baby Back Home
-
Came home last night and was surprised with a package of two Maui Gold pineapples. A nice gift from Carol to remember the trip by.
-
Thanks to BK for posting the opening remarks. Always enjoy that kind of thing.
-
Good morning!

TOD: That Sunday, That Summer
Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer
-
It won’t be decided till this evening, but I’m wondering if we’ll have our op’nin’ tonight or be rained out.
This happened to them last summer with that musical about a forest. One rained out show after another.
-
Thanks, BK, for posting all the videos! It was so nice to re-live that evening!
-
Page 2! Pretty good for 9:18 am Eastern!

DR George thanks for the funny photo of Henry.
-
DR TCB, yes the Redding fire is terrifying.
-
Opening night vibes for DR CHAS SMITH & Co.
-
Lovely notes and great video....I noticed one orchestra member applauded for Richard Allen....she'll probably never work for that conductor again.
-
Thanks to all for the vibes....we still have no news, so my guess is that everything will be done down there.....
-
Errands to pharmacy and post office made. I'm not stepping out again today.

Opening night vibes for DR ChasSmith!
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep.
-
Starting the day with a really fun movie, The Late Show. Great Art Carney and Lily Tomlin. I don't think I appreciated it enough when I first saw it.
-
Show vibes for Chas!
-
Saturday morning greetings! We had a nice time at the family picnic yesterday, but all that fresh air and sunshine made me very sleepy. I crashed early last night and slept late this morning.
-
DR TCB, yes the Redding fire is terrifying.
DR Elmore and I have a mutual friend who lives in the area and had to be evacuated with her family. Their home survived, thank goodness.
-
Thanks to all for the vibes....we still have no news, so my guess is that everything will be done down there.....
So sorry, DR JRand...
-
Opening night vibes for DR ChasSmith!
From me, too - hope it's not rained out!
-
Condolences to Jrand and vibes, vibes, and more vibes to all.
-
Awaiting the arrival of she of the Evil Eye, after which I shall be on my way to the Group Rep.
-
Thanks to all for the vibes....we still have no news, so my guess is that everything will be done down there.....
Maybe I missed it earlier, but is this a case of two branches of family who don't much communicate with each other? Even if it isn't, that's kind of an unsettling situation, not knowing which way it's going. Regardless, my condolences, DR Jrand67.
-
Thanks MR BK & DR CHAS SMITH - no problems among the family...just a great physical distance...just not sure what is happening....for no other reason than some not communicating in what is obviously a sad time....
-
Opening night vibes for DR ChasSmith!

A bit of good news. DR Ron said his mother may be able to return home tomorrow.

Waiting on a fresh chef’s salad — topped with a sizzling burger patty.

Let’s move on ...

Three!
-
Hello, everyone.

Jane, I tried the CBD cream again today. It does help, but it's not instant--I don't think any of the topicals will provide immediate relief. There's a bit of an odor to it. I didn't find the odor too strong or at all offensive, but I prefer no odor. It's also expensive: $45 for a jar. My fave is still the Arnica Rub, which is $12-14 for approximately the same amount, and NO smell at all. Both absorb well and are not at all greasy. I'll continue to use the CBD just in case there's a cumulative effect, which there isn't with the Arnica Rub.
The one I'm using is CBD Clinic (that's the brand) Revolutionary Pain Relief Professional Series Level 3 MODERATE Muscle and joint pain relief #750. My doctor's supplier said that they've had very good feedback on this product. Maybe it works better for others than it does for me, or maybe those folks never used the Arnica Rub.
-
Thanks for the update on Ron's mom, Jane.
Vibes she feels great and can come home soon!
-
Vibes to all.
TTFN.
-
Up from a too-short nap. It's still hot out there.

Ushering in the heat ain’t for the faint of heart.
Goodness no!

This just popped on my computer to watch.

Watching George M. Cohan in The Phantom President with songs by Rodgers and Hart. Right now, Cohan is doing a patriotic number in blackface. What's interesting is, is that Cohan's dancing really resembles Cagney's.
Claudette Colbert is charming, and Jimmy Durante is a joy. He's doing some of his own material, which makes me wonder what Rodgers and Hart thought.

The link I posted was Richard Sherman singing "Special Singing Behind The Scenes For 'Christopher Robin'"
-
Back from a really fun workshop - most fun yet - then some of us went to Barone's - I had just three slices, the equivalent of two.
-
Which reminds me I was not able to watch the videos in the notes yesterday. I shall do so now.
-
Now I'm home and staying here - really hot out. Listening to music right now. And picked up a couple of packages, too.
-
"So Many Empty Rooms" is beautiful.

Is that the movie some people say was a precursor to "Dave?" (was this discussed here?)

The Times has an article on the actor who committed suicide after the treatment at "Chicago."

:(
-
What that article finally confirms is that the rehearsal was certainly not the only factor in his suicide. Many of us said this from the beginning, but all the people posting and putting out information wanted it to seem like that was the only cause - his partner, his cousin, all the information was coming only from one side. It's never just one thing and I'm glad this reporter didn't just run with the story without checking on what other mitigating factors there might have been and clearly were.

I think he did some of his own material later in JUMBO.
-
Page three? Really?
-
Listening to more Lucy Reed (my smartness in buying these twenty years ago was amazing - my stupidness in not listening to them was, well, equally amazing). I love this woman's voice and her interpretations are really interesting. You've never heard a Love for Sale like hers. I think that arrangement is by Gil Evans. She only made two albums in the 1950s and then one in the 1990s. And a range that's beyond belief - just when you think she can't go any higher she goes higher.
-
No viewing this evening. I brought thirty more CDs in the house and I'm just having too much fun listening.
-
Now playing - George Shearing - solo piano - nothing better.
-
This may be where it gets odd. Are we to believe the people at "Chicago" knew nothing about his partner having lost his income, and lots of all these factors mentioned? That no one knewthey were taking away his and his partner's only source of income?
I also put this in that other posting area. Remember: if they fired him, he'd get his buyout plus unemployment insurance at least. What they were trying to do instead was shame him into quitting voluntarily - which of course meant not getting the 30,000 buyout, and obviously no unemployment insurance - nothing! No cushion to ease him back.

That’s what it felt like.
-
Still hot tonight.
-
Two hours of dancing didn’t help me cool off any.
-
Four!
-
Starting to watch March or Die, which is a movie I had wanted to see way back when. I really like Gene Hackman, Catherine Deneuve and Maurice Jarre's music. But when I saw the words "Lew Grade presents ...," my heart kinda sank.
-
George Shearing is sheer magic. That is all I'm saying.
-
Except for: Page four? Really?
-
Bruce, this is what I posted there, might as well put same thing here:
I'm not so sure the other factors like the chocolate shop cut in favor of the "Chicago" company.
Are we to believe the people at "Chicago" knew nothing about his partner having lost his income, and lots of all these factors mentioned? Even if not that: Are we to believe that no one in management knew they were taking away his and his partner's only source of income, whether they knew about the chocolate shop or not?
If they had just fired him, he'd get his 30,000+ buyout plus his months of unemployment insurance at least. What they were trying to do instead was shame him into quitting voluntarily - which of course meant not getting the 30,000+ buyout, and obviously no unemployment insurance because (in NY) you don't get that if you quit - nothing! If he quit: No cushion at all to ease him back, while finding new opportunities.
If you don't have any money saved or are in debt, that $50,000 or $60,000 can be the difference between having a place to live while you regroup vs. not having one. (If the $106,000 a year were the only money for the couple, while that number sounds like a lot, that could mean they had no savings to fall back on. If you're an employee, a lot of income taxes are taken out of that before you get your paycheck.
-
FJL, too many suppositions for me. My only point was that there was more to this story than his partner and family were putting out there. And that there were other factors involved. While this is a supposition on my part, I don't think the rehearsal (ONE rehearsal) would have caused anyone to do anything drastic. I wasn't in the room so I don't know how drastic any of it was, nor does anyone since we're only hearing one side of this at the moment. Perhaps when the investigation is done we'll have more information. I just appears to me (supposition) that it was a combo platter of factors and also remember that he was NOT fired from Chicago, nor had he quit - that salary was still coming in every week. While I think giving anyone that kind of contract is stupid, that's what they gave him, probably never thinking in their wildest imaginings that it would still be running twenty-two years on.
-
All that said, it's never a great idea to berate performers - you don't really get good results by doing so.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
And you know I HATE bullies.
-
Catherine Deneuve does not perform well in English.
-
Gratuitous post No. 100!
-
One of the silliest things in this movie is that Terence Hill marches across the desert but never sweats.
-
But he flashes eyes as blue as Paul Newman's.
-
The factors that are clear:
If they fired him, he'd get the buyout ($30,000 to$40,000 in the article) and $10,000 or so unemployment
If they shamed him and made life so unpleasant to get him to quit, which seems not ti be in doubt that was their goal - Zero buyout and Zero unemployment insurance.
Whether they knew he and his partner had no other income - yes, that's speculative. But anywhere I've worked in taxes, everyone knew everyone's spouse or partner's "business" - I can't imagine the company didn't know no other income was coming in for him and his partner, given the nature of theater.
-
And you know I HATE bullies.
My "favorites" are the bullies who are in powerful positions (like say a VP of MAC) and when you try to fight back, if you fight back even a little more than they like, they say you're bullying them.
-
Good night, all.
-
Earlier I went to Ralph's and got a couple of drumettes for a snack - and now my tummy is not feeling too well. I'm sipping a Canada Dry and I popped a Pepcid so hopefully that will help.

Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
What is this page four malarky?
-
Not that I'm being snarky.
-
Now Shearing with the Robert Farnon Orchestra - made this for Telarc in 1993, bringing back his quintet sound that made him famous - Farnon was one of the great arrangers and this album is luscious.
-
Good evening.
-
Warm and muggy tonight.
-
Now they are saying 91 degrees tomorrow, and possibly even warmer on Monday.
-
They are now predicting that cooler temps in the 70’s won’t happen until Thursday.
-
I am too old and fat for all this hot weather.
-
I need to move to Antarctica.
-
Of course, all the ice is melting there, too.
-
Page 5
-
Well, bad news for my niece.
-
She is having more surgery on Monday.
-
They are putting a shunt in her skull to hopefully redirect the excess spinal fluid to drain into her stomach, rather than coming out of her ear.
-
I am not really sure that either one is a win-win situation.
-
So, she remains in ICU until, at least, Wednesday or Thursday.
-
Thank you, all, for the positive vibes for her.
-
What a difference there was driving back from Seattle on the weekend.
-
It only took forty minutes to get home today, as opposed to the two and one half hour it took during the week.
-
I am sorry that these posts aren’t more interesting, but I am very warm and very tired.
-
Hot weather or not, I need to spend tomorrow cleaning house and working on the book.
-
I haven’t opened my manuscript at all this week.
-

I did some more prop shopping before the movie, and the movie that we saw was the filmed on tour live production of Newsies.
-
After Newsies, we went to Red Robin for burgers, even though I was going to my friends' sushi party. ;)
-
I just heard that in October, there is going to be an Actor’s Benefit Fund concert of the entire original Broadway cast of RAGTIME.
-
I would love to see that.
-
I went to my friends' sushi oarty and brought burrito stuff because the party really was for any kind of rolled food...and I wasn't the only one to bring burrito stuff

~~~Thatch Be Healthy Vibes!!~~~
When I came home after Red Robin today, I noticed that Neve had thrown up in a couple of places. :P
-
That's actually kind of normal for her.
This happened to them last summer with that musical about a forest. One rained out show after another.
I've never been in an outdoor show. There's a local group that does Shakespeare outside during the summer and I don't know if they've cancelled (m)any performances.
-
DR George thanks for the funny photo of Henry.
You're welcome, Jane.
A bit of good news. DR Ron said his mother may be able to return home tomorrow.
That's wonderful news, Jane! Thanks for sharing!
