Title: ROMANCE ON THE HIGH C'S
Post by: bk on February 13, 2005, 12:02:26 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes have put you in a romantic frame of mind, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home with Cupid's arrows firmly embedded in their butt cheeks.

May I just count the ways that I HATE STUPID AOL?  At two minutes to twelve it decides to be completely retarded once again - can't get to any websites.  I have to completely re-paste in the notes via Safari, and then completely redo the first post in the new topic on the discussion board.

Bombastic!  Sounds like something from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" ... at least, the stage production.

I tried looking up that song on a Cy Coleman website, but was told the links weren't working.  It's three in the morning where I am, I don't care about the links, it's too damn dark to be playing golf and it's the middle of winter anyway.

But the upshot is that I'm unable to confirm whether Cy Coleman wrote that song.

I'm listening to Baker Street.  I think it's a delightful score...not absolutely fabulous, but I really like it.

DR Ginny--thanks for the congrats. I like the no-longer-a-newbie status.

DR Ben--I also love Uncle Nick's Greek Restaurant on 9th Ave. Of the 4 dips that you mentioned, my favorites are the tzatziki ( cucumber, yogurt, and garlic) and the one made out of eggplant--I think it's called melitzanosalata.
I really enjoyed The Musical of Musicals-The Musical! at the York Theater. I liked What If even more.

DR Hisaka--I'm not certain that it was "courage" that was necessary to sample those strange and exotic foods. It was, more likely, the folly of youth.

Tonight I attended the cabaret debut of Mr. Brian Stokes Mitchell at Feinstein's. He was wonderful, as usual, and performed an unusual jazz interpretation of MY FAIR LADY arranged by Mr. John Williams. He also sang "The Best Is Yet To Come" as a tribute to Mr. Cy Coleman, and "The Impossible Dream" as a tribute to Ossie Davis. I was surprised at how well "An Ordinary Man" worked in a jazz format.

George, I'm fond of WHAT A NIGHT THIS IS GOING TO BE from BAKER STREET.

Sorry, I was mostly errant and truant yesterday. Computer guy was here from about 3:30 to 11:00 PM getting rid of the whatever spyware hijacked my homepage.  All seems well now.

Tim Curry was invoked yesterday.  Mr. Curry is my neighbour.  He used to live just three doors up from me, then moved further afield into Los Feliz...but we would still exchange pleasantries at the grocery, local bistro, and where our walks intersected each other.  Last Spring he moved back into the neighbourhood, but since moving in he has been mostly on tour with Spamalot.  He's a lovely gent.

BK, you should wait to feel your oats on Valentine's Day; they'll be much more responsive.

I have had a BOMBASTIC tension headache exploding inside my noggin.  I must now answer the banshee yawn of the Wild wooly Wussburger and hope it will subside.

Amazon says "Poor Everybody Else" was indeed composed by Cy Coleman and says it is a song from SEESAW.  But a song of the same title was sung by Lucy and Red Skelton in a Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour "Lucy Goes to Alaska" around 1959 or so.....so that's weird.  If it's the same song - Mr Coleman must have had it in his trunk since then.  Mysterious.

Quite possible.  But then, considering that Lucy's daughter toured in the national company of Seesaw, the more reasonable explanation is that Lucy and Red somehow gained access to a time machine.

Not that I want to sound BOMBASTIC or anything.

And, My Dear DR Swoody, what were you doing up at three o'clock in the morning?

I watched an Australian movie “Center Stage” this afternoon. It’s a story of young ballet dancers. I was really impressed with the brilliant dancing of these actors and actresses in it. They DO excellently not only classic ballet, but modern dance.  I know there’re many good talented actors and actresses in Australia, and good movies.  Is that movie popular there in Australia? This question is for maybe DR OZDEREK and DR TOMOVOZ. How do you like it? :)

Nope, not always. He guest starred on one of the LAW & ORDER shows this season and played the part perfectly straight and solemn. He is a fine actor when he reins in the mannerisms.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!

WOW!  It's amazing just how "day" there is when one gets up before 10:00am... 10:30am... 11:00... or even Noon!!!

;)

I was up and adam at 8:00, and I was working up a sweat downstairs by 8:30.  I have to say that I'm really noticing some nice changes in my body after three weeks of this fitness routine.  I actually am looking forward to stepping on the scale tomorrow.  -I only do it once a week.

The challenge will be keeping up the routine once I'm back home in Richmond this week.  The big obstacle will be the less than ideal workout space of my living room.  However, if it's nice weather, I may just go ahead and work out in the park.  Heck, other people go through their routines outside.  To quote a famous brand name: Just Do It!
Title: Re:ROMANCE ON THE HIGH C'S

Now, after I finished my workout and got all showered up, I decided to go ahead and make this very simple chocolate cake that I've made before.  My final baked goods for the run of the show...

How Do You Know When It's Time To Put Away The Spatula?[/i]

This recipe is very easy - I shall post it later.  No eggs, no butter.  Just mix the dry ingredients in one bowl, the wet in another, then mix them together until it's lump free.  Very simple.  -The recipe gets it's fat from corn oil.

Well, I wanted to make two cakes, so I doubled the recipe.  Which I have done before.

So, I pour the batter into the cake pans, and put the pans in the oven.  I start clearing the counter, and then realize that I'm not putting away something.  Which means I forgot to take it out the pantry and put it into the batter.

The SUGAR!!!!!

AAAGGGHHH!!!! -And the cake is made with cocoa powder, so sugar would be a good thing..

Luckily, since I had just put them in the oven, I promptly took the cake pans out of the oven, and poured the batter back into the mixing bowl.  I stirred in the two cups of sugar, refilled the pans, and replaced them back in the oven.  Afterwards, I clean the dishes and the counter and read some of the newspaper.

About 20 minutes later I check on them, and they don't seem to be rising that much.  Well, that's normal for this batter.  It's just one of those that suddenly goes from a thin paste to a baked goodie.

I decide to recheck my recipe.  Well, more precisely, the scribbles I had written down - the "doubled" scribbles.  I wrote down 2 cups of water.  When I was mixing it up, I thought I had forgot to double the water amount since the batter was looking very thick.  So, I added another two cups of water.  Then I pulled up the recipe on my computer, and, lo and behold, the original called for 1 cup of water.  I had indeed scribbled down the correct "double"!  So...

I've been laughing at myself for the past couple of minutes.  I'm just gonna let the mixture bake for a while to see what happens.  Who knows?  Maybe I'll have some sort of chocolate spoon bread?

;)

In any case, I do believe a break from baking is due right now.

At least for today.

-Anybody want some really, really, really, really, REALLY moist chocolate cake?

;D

I'll be back right before I head out for the final two shows...

DR JANE - it made me laugh!

That hobo routine by Lucy and Red was an extended pantomime from one of the Comedy Hours, but I forget the circumstances of how LucyRicard ended up on Red's show.

DR WFO is right in that none of the "Lucy" sites give a music credit.  But I just looked i"The Lucy Book" by Geoffrey Mark Fidelman credits the song 'Poor Everybody Else' to Arthur Hamilton.

Post by: Jrand74 on February 13, 2005, 09:35:18 AM
Ah the sketch was called "Dining at the Waldorf" and Lucy Ricardo ended up on the show because it was being broadcast from Alaska - the new 49th state and the actress who was supposed to be on Red's live show, was unable to get to Nome.

The Ricardos and Mertzes were in Alaska because they had bought stock in a "gold mine" and were checking on it.

Makes sense to me.

Hmmm....

I just checked the cakes and they seem to be doing fine.  Of course, now they've been in the oven for double the amount of the original cooking time, but still...

I may just bring them to the theatre, and see what happens.  I will warn everyone that the flavor may be a little different than last time.

The wonders of evaporation!

OK - Time to get dressed...

OH!  Here's the recipe - The joys of cut and paste!

AMAZON CAKE
Adapted from ''Cafe Beaujolais'' by Margaret Fox and John S. Bear (Ten Speed Press, 1984)
Time: 40 minutes

1 1/2 cups flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons corn oil
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
Confectioners' sugar.

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, sugar and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, vanilla and vinegar with 1 cup cold water. Whisk in the dry ingredients, blending until completely lump-free. Pour into a greased 9-inch round cake pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top springs back when pressed gently. Cool before removing from the pan and dusting with confectioners' sugar, or frosting if desired.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings.

I was going to bed.  I'm up again now.

Pretty soon Fletcher will start pesting me to take him for a walk.  Which means for a run.  His new trick is to take a leash down off of the entryway table and dump it on the floor, as a hint.  If that doesn't work, he takes ALL of the leashes and dumps them on the floor.  This, of course, gets everyone else excited, but I refuse to take more than two at a time, and Fletcher is a handful all on his own.

I'm up, I'm up.

My favorite culinary disaster occurred during the making of my stroganoff.  It was around 1974 or so - I was seasoning the meat during that portion of the cooking process (meat, onions and mushrooms all sauteeing).  The top of the pepper shaker came off and I dumped so much pepper in there it was unbelievable.  Nothing to be done except try to scoop it out, but that was one pepperfied batch of stroganoff.  People ate it and were kind, but it was NOT good.

Poor Everybody Else was indeed a song from Seesaw, but not the same song as the Lucy/Red Poor Everybody Else - completely different music and lyrics to the former.  However, the Lucy/Red Poor Everybody Else SOUNDS like Cy and Carolyn, who'd just written Wildcat for Lucy.

Of course, it could instead go to The Boy From Oz or Wonderful Town.

We've four of the five discs in our collection.  I'm rooting for Wicked myself, and Schwartz could win it just on his reputation alone.  That happens a lot with the "minor" catagories, I've noticed.

Wicked is the only one of the nominated albums that briefly made the Billboard charts.  And the people voting no nothing about cast albums or Broadway - the votes go to shows that have high visibility or a rock producer attached (i.e. Smokey Joe's, Riverdance, etc.).  Wicked has the might of Universal behind it, Boy from Oz has a star performance behind it, Avenue Q has nothing behind it except its Tony win, Wonderful Town doesn't even have to show up at the ceremony, and Assassins can do the same.

Checking on Arthur Hamilton over at IMDB, there was indeed such a person.  His bio reads:

Songwriter ("Cry Me a River"), composer, author and publisher, the son of Jack Stern. His songs were recorded by such popular singers as Peggy King and Julie London. Besides his film and television work, he wrote the stage score for "What a Day", and what today is considered to be the first live television musical, for KTTV in 1949. He wrote for a music-publishing company for two years, and became a music publisher himself in 1958. Joining ASCAP in 1955, his other popular-song compositions include "Poor Ev'rybody Else", "Zero Hour", "He Needs Me", "Sing a Rainbow", "Just Go", "Them There Days", "The Trouble With Me is Men", "That Means I Love You", "Our Ship Is Coming In", "Bayamo", "Wherever I Am, I'm Home", "Any Questions?", "Lady Blue", "Bouquet of Blues", "Wherever You Are It's Spring", "Littleboy Heart", and "Sudden Love".

Thanks to DR's Jose and elmore for the clarifications last night to my posts about Phillipine foods and The Little Pie Shop, respectively.  Both replies were made after I wussed about 11pm EST.

My worst kitchen disaster required a 911 call and the appearance at our house of 2 fire trucks and the Assistant Fire Chief.  I was preheating the oven to cook for the first time after a bout with pneumonia and I heard this "Whump!" noise from the stove.  When I turned around, through the glass oven door, I could see that the whole oven was in flames -  it was an electrical fire that toasted the entire element.  It had burned itself out by the time the firefighters got here.  No injuries, fortunately, and the only repair required was a new heating element for the oven.  We went out to dinner that night.

Thelma Ritter, as luck would have it, was in two straight films I just completed watching on the Fox Movie Channel. The first, ALL ABOUT EVE. Well, what can you say about this film? If it has a flaw, which it does NOT, it would be that Birdie kind of disappears, never to be seen again.

But luckily for me she DID appear again, in the next film, FATHER WAS A FULLBACK. Here is an example of a film, probably average in its day, that has dialogue far better than most of today's meager offerings. Fred MacMurray is having a poor year as the football coach of State U. His eldest daughter is going through an identity crisis where she believes boys vomit at the sight of her. Natalie Wood is hilarious as his youngest daughter, here reunited with Maureen O'Hara from MIRACLE ON 34th STREET who plays the Coach's wife.  Wood's later REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE co-star Jim Backus is comical as the neighbor who phones the elder daughter pretending to be an interested suitor. Add in Rudy Valee as the impatient alumni president, and, of course, Thelma R. as the maid who is making money by betting against State U. and all in all, you have a comedy delight. I think every line Thelma delivered was funny.

I also want to add that Betty Lynn, who plays the teenage daughter is quite funny. She brings disgrace upon the family when her false memoir, "I Was a Child Bubble Dancer" is published in a sleazy magazine.

The article on Kreuger that Pogue mentioned, titled "One Man Show," is available online. (http://www.latimes.com/features/printedition/magazine/la-tm-kreuger07feb13,0,7025387.story?coll=la-home-magazine)

Quote
The Library of Congress values the Kreuger archives, known as the Institute of the American Musical, at more than $1 million. State Librarian Emeritus Kevin Starr describes the stash—visitors gain access by appointment only—as a "cultural resource of international importance." Yet Kreuger, who lives among the floor-to-ceiling artifacts with his ancient dog, Molly, depends on the kindness of benefactors for financial support. Over the years, several of these friends have gently urged him to transfer the collection out of his darkly furnished duplex near the Fairfax district to a more secure and accessible site. But Kreuger resists every effort to pry away his things, showing the same tenacity he has deployed during the more than 50 years it took to acquire them.

"The institute is Miles. He is it," explains Robert Kimball, a musical theater historian and longtime member of the institute's board.

I'm sorry for being errant and truant, but I've been working on this paper for my IAAAAWWOTD class.

My worst culinary disaster would probably be the time I tried to make vegetable fried rice. The top of the bottle of soy sauce came off and emptied the soy sauce all over the kitchen. It got everywhere except the rice. I went to get a towel to start cleaning up, and slipped and fell in a puddle of soy sauce on the floor and got it all over my tuchus.

Well DRJOSE - my most terrible kitchen mishap was the time I put Liquid Dishwashing liquid in the Dishwasher!

DON'T EVER DO THAT!!!

I did that once myself. I knew you weren't supposed to, but I had run out of diswashing detergent, so I put small amounts in the cups and hoped for the best.

Took me hours to mop up the suds.

After I finshed the first disc in the CSI: MIAMI box, I put in THE CHINA SYNDROME since we had been talking about it this week. It is a wonderfully made and suspenseful film. Fletcher "talked" der Brucer into taking him for a walk.  Presently, I decided to leash up Marty, Bonnie and Buster, and we joined them.  Der B then conned me into taking Fletcher while he went back home to find a fifth leash to walk Mikey.

So there I was, walking Marty (who is large), Bonnie and Buster (medium sized) AND Fletcher (who is VERY large), while he had itty bitty Mikey all by himself.

If der B complains about how his muscles ache after that walk, he'd just better make sure he doesn't do it until after I have my shoulder reset.

I regret to say that CENTER STAGE is not an Australian movie.  It is a British movie directed by Nicholas Hytner and is set in the world of the American Ballet Theatre.  I think it was quite popular here when it was released in the cinemas.  It is often screened on commercial television.

Here is a topic/question for all. Hopefully it did not come up like two days before I showed up here. But what movies are you most vexed at their not being available on VHS or DVD? Your wish list, if you will, of films that have not made it into home-viewing availability.

Me:
A Cold Wind in August- with Lola Albright and Scott Marlowe
Advance to the Rear-MGM Civil War hijinks with Glenn Ford, Stella Stevens and a soundtrack by the New Christy Minstrels
Your Three Minutes are Up-with Ron Leibman and Beau Bridges
Most Ritz brothers films

What are some of your memorable and/or infamous culinary mishaps?

I made the most beautiful apple pie once, and took it to a friend's house as dessert .  It realy was truly beautiful, the entire crust was uniformly golden brown, the edges had not overcoooked, there were no fallen spots int he top crust,

However when we all took our first bite we all puckered up, I had inadvertently substituted nutmeg for cinnamon...those damn McCormick spice boxes all look the same!!!

One of my most infamous culinary mishaps was when I was trying to cook spaghetti the night before a fund-raiser spaghetti feed and firstly, putting too much spaghetti in the pot at one time, and secondly, having the heat turned up so high that not only did the spaghetti burn and stick to the bottom of the supposedly "no-stick" teflon-coated pan, that the enamel on the outside of the pan melted onto the heating element.  I not only had to throw out all the spaghetti (fortunately, I had extra), but I had to throw out the damn pot!  And it was a good pot that my sister had given me. ::)

For me, the shocking thing is that with the billions of dollars that we pay to the DWP that they cannot deal with this sort of thing in a timely way.  They don't have a backup generator?  I mean,  it's really something, the ineptitude of the way things are done.

Dh tells a story from his university days of a dorm mates culinary disaster that was actually his pratical joke,  They had a common kitchen on the dorm floor and one of the other students was a having two friends over for macaroni & cheese,  She made the mistake of asking DH how much elbow macaroni she should put in and he replied that she should use the entire 1 lb box, and offered to look after the boiling pot whie she went to take care of setting up the room, of course being the evil prankster that he is, immediately she left the room he ran to all the other students and scrounged every last box of elbow macaroni on the floor and proceeded to add them to her boiling pot

she came back to find the pot was overflowing and immediately decanted into  a larger pot and then , more fool she, left the kitchen again so DH could resume adding macaroni...this continued until she had managed to fill every single pot in the place with cooked macaroni...she was amazed that 1 lb had swollen to such gigantic proportions!

I had some friends from college who also wanted to make macaroni and cheese, not as a practical joke, but for themselves.  They had the Kraft box, but they didn't have any butter, so they used vegetable oil instead.  That sort of made sense.  But then they also didn't have any milk, so they used mayonnaise! :o They figured milk is white...mayo is white...should be a good substitute.  NOT!!  I think one of them actually tried it and realized the error of their ways and dumped it.

Jose, too often I have quickly pulled something out of the oven in order to add a missing ingredient.  So far the end results were okay.   Serving possible disasters can be interesting.  It can also be difficult to know if people are too polite to be honest the food is lousy, or I’m way too fussy.  I will sit there and refuse to eat the food and everyone else says it’s good and finishes theirs, everyone but my family who know better.

Vixmom it is substituting the wrong ingredient that really gets one into trouble. ;D

Sandra your kitchen disaster has me ROTFLOL.

There was the four layer cake I frosted after having too many drinks.  All was fine at first.  The cake was sitting on the table while we ate dinner.   To my horror it began to slowly topple over, a bit like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  All was well ‘cause it still tasted great and we have never been so entertained by a cake.

Evening all!  Today has been a very long day.  When I play on Saturday, it backs up what I have to do till Sunday.

I am very tired but wanted to pop by and say:

DR Ben, I don’t find you long winded at all.  I enjoy everything you tell me because I learn from it.

Thanks for the offer of checking my elbow, DR Jose.  I may need it. I have no idea what I will be like on skates.  I know you need strong ankles but I don’t know if I do or not.  I walk fine.  High heels kill me.  A connection?  I have no idea.

While I was out and about today, I picked up San Disk Wi-Fi  SD Card for my Pocket PC.  I hope I can get it to work so I can use it on the trip and for the “hot spots” in downtown Tampa.  It would be nice to be able to check my e-mail (if nothing else).  I’m to tired to really mess with it tonight so I will let you know more when I do.

Austin Miller played Link in the  Hairspray I saw.  I don’t know if that is the person you were asking about.

MBarnum, huba, huba and that's all I'm going to say!   ;) :D

Yes, if all two of us write, say, a thousand letters each, they may consider it!
That is a great album, no? All music written by Randy Sparks of the NCM's, and I'd love to know what actually got used in the film. For the curious, the New Christy Minstrels LP is also known as "Today" because that was the hit song, but the entire LP is the soundtrack to said film. Caught up

Slow weekend. Did not venture out. Still recovering.

Did an internet search for the Castro area in San Francisco during the 80's which is where and when my play is set. Someone actually has a site dedicated to that. Will try the Stonewall archive tomorrow in Fort Lauderdale.

I am planning on skipping the Grammy Awards tonight.  I have never heard of half of the nominees, and the half I have heard of, I don't like.

Also been putting songs on my IPOD. Current count 2472. 2300  or so songs are not repeated either in medley form or in versions sung by male or female. To listen straight through would take 6 days.

I am not watching the Grammys, either.  "Extreme Makeover:  Home Edition" is much more exciting and the emotions evoked, while a bit manipulated, are still genuine.

Well, DR Rodzinski, we have on numerous occasions listed films we're dying to have on DVD.

For me (many of which have since been announced as coming) are the other five THIN MAN films, EASTER PARADE, FLOWER DRUM SONG, and the MISS MARPLE films of Margaret Rutherford.

It does seem odd that EASTER PARADE would not yet be on DVD.

I really expected it in the collection with MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. I mean, LOVE FINDS ANDY HARDY? PLEASE!

But then I read they're cleaning it up and remastering it with Ultra-Resolution (used on SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, GWTW, ROBIN HOOD, and ST. LOUIS), so it should look spectacular.

I didn't watch the Grammys either. I was watching LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT to see the return of Chris Noth as Mike Logan (he joins the show as a regular next seeason) and recording DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

I remember when ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE came out, the PR was saying that it would make Robert Blake the next BIG movie star.

Then the movie sank like a stone.

Yes, we have had many of our splendidly splendid regulars here with us today.  And there have been many errant and truant, which is hardly in the spirit of Valentine's Day.  But, you know what - who gives a flying Wallenda?  If people wish to read posts and then leave without so much as a hello, well, then, fine and dandy and also dandy and fine - I shall laugh and laugh and just when they think I can laugh no more I shall laugh again.  This too shall pass, buckaroos.

Guess you can't get enough Robert Blake, eh, BK?

I saw him in an old OUR GANG the other day, and I thought, he never would guess how his life would turn out. But who can?

An(other) odd thing about Electra: the guy who directed it was the guy who produced and managed the band Chicago.

elmore, I wrote a remake of THE UNINVITED for Universal back in the mid-nineties.  Yes, I know...a daunting task, given how wonderful the original film is.  But we went back to the original Dorothy Macardle book and re-focused the story on the sister like it was the novel...though we updated it and set it in America, giving it a Southern gothic touch.  It never got made (for a lot of reasns that had nothing to do with the merits of the script), but I thought we plumbed some interesting depths in it and certainly could deal a bit more freely with the lebsian aspects inherent in the material.

DR RODZINSKI I hope you are aware that Mr Randy Sparks appeared as "Phil" in the 1960 classic motion picture COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL.  He played guitar and sang two lovely songs.

Of course Mr Steve Allen the star of the picture also wrote some music for the film, as did co-star Conway Twitty - who crooned the title tune and made out like a bandit with Mamie Van Doren (a long in the tooth co-ed to say the least).

Talk about where is the DVD?  How about those Albert Zugsmith-Mamie Van Doren spectaculars?  SEX KITTENS GO TO COLLEGE aka THE BEAUTY AND THE ROBOT and THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ADAM AND EVE....

Frankly, I don't believe Ann has not caught up.  What I believe is what my eyes tell me - she was here and she deigned not to post.  I think sometimes people get ornery or contrary.  Perhaps I shall be ornery and contrary, too, to be in the spirit.

I'm afraid that I must take the blame for this one, not our DR Ann.  The fact is, it was I who was catching up, just doing so on her computer while she was still logged in.  I was then distracted for awhile and, therefore, deigned not to post.  I shall take my rightful place in line for the bitchslapping machine!

The reason for my using DR Ann's computer tonight is that I have a job interview over here in Tacoma tomorrow afternoon.  The job would be fantastic (file clerk at a downtown law office, decent pay, great benefits, yada yada yada), but... DR Ann interviewed for this same job last week and learned that this firm basically never hires men for these jobs.  Apparently the big boss is a bit of a sexist ass, feeling that these "lower level" jobs are only suitable for women.  So, I'm most likely just a token penis (for lack of a better phrase) for interview quotas, but gotta give it my best shot.  They've had a whopping three guys in such jobs in the past seventeen years, so I guess it's not a totally lost cause.  So, yeah, any available employment vibes around 3pm PST would be greatly appreciated!
