Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like Cisco and Pancho, and now it is time for you to post until the Cisco and Pancho cows come home.

I had a very strange dream last night.

Elmore couldn't take care of his cats any more, so he shipped them all to me -- Thatch, Annabelle, and Nancy.

Thatch hid, Nancy roamed around, and Annabelle was all over my DH.

So, Elmore, I guess if you happen to find a mostly black tortie with a brown paw and chin -- she is meant for you. Her name is  Nancy.

Fred Ziv, of ZIV TV, produced "The Cisco Kid" series.  He was my 2nd cousin.

He retired and moved to Cincinnati  before I moved to Hollywood, so he was no help to me in the business.

I finally met him very briefly years later when I did a publicity event in his city.

T.O.D.

The problem with doing documentaries (or even writing books) about people from Hollywood's Golden Years is that there are few, if any, folks still around who knew your subject, so all your sources are 2nd or 3rd hand.

I have already packed their bags and purchased their Greyhound Bus tickets for AZ!  They should be at your door by the end of next week.  Annabelle expects her own room.

I will send Nancy as soon as she shows up.

Loyalty and reward and appreciation for years of service are not particularly valued.....especially by some who think the OTHER guy will cast them in roles in the production....which is exactly why they voted for him......sad....sad....sad....

ZIV was located at the Goldwyn Studios on Santa Monica Blvd.

When I was in high school, my father and I went to Los Angeles (from Seattle) for a week, and Fed Ziv arranged for us to get onto the lot and watch them film an AIP film with John Ashley.  It was a teen-age thing.  I never saw it and don't recall the title.

I have neither seen the movie nor heard one note of this ghastly musical, but I'm playing it in the spring, for two weeks.

For the MONEY. :)

I always "assumed" it was a piece o' crap, or at the very least simply wasn't my type of material. So I was disappointed to hear that this group had chosen it. But when they did, I thought, optimistically, that maybe my assumptions were a bit unjust and that it might have some things going for it.

It doesn't sound like DR John G. is offering any hope in that regard.

And:

The sight of an airplane in the sky on Monday makes you wistful, and it also makes you think, 'OK, what about me? Where do I want to go?' Time to make travel plans -- big or small, it doesn't matter, just go somewhere with a friend or even by yourself (great soul-searching opportunity). Work stuff has you occupied Tuesday and Wednesday (cross as many things off your list as possible, be careful when communicating, focus on the details). Thursday and Friday are family days. Saturday is packed to the gills with plans and people, as is Sunday. Be open-minded and flexible.

On Saturday night, I decided to contact the NYC ACC to see if I could obtain some information about Annabelle's stay there: health issues, behavior, etc.  I just received this reply to my email:
Annabelle was found as a stray from 2007 surf avenue Brooklyn NY 11224 on 9-19-17.  The admissions counselor who processed her intake stated she was very friendly and affectionate.  During her time here she was relaxed and solicited attention from passerbys by rubbing her cheeks on the cage and sticking her paws out.  When she was handled she would purr and brush up against the person handling her and she appeared to be healthy when she came in.

She's a Brooklyn girl!

Good evening.  Just home from playing a rehearsal for a production of Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street it's nice to be able to play some real music theatre, not some of the drek I've been playing the last 3 months.  I played Keys 2 in a production of The Addams Family-The Musical after which I swore I'd never go near that crap again.  After that, I played for a production of Disaster-The Musical which was fun, but mindless and silly.  I then played and conducted a high school production of Beauty and the Beast which was magical and a lot of fun.  I do love that score from beginning to end.  I finished up my "school tour of 2018" with covering the harp/percussion 2 part for a high school production of Sweeney Todd the school edition.  That was great to be able to make music with some really talented students and to play that wonderful Sondheim score - AND I'm happy the kids were exposed to this musical.    I'm finishing up the year playing for a production of the Menken/Ahrens A Christmas Carol - The Musical = for that experience, you'll have to wait for the memoirs.

Everything else is fine.  My DD Ben (mini schnauzer) turns 8 today, and my little guy, Leo will be 3 in May, how the time flies.   They are good DD"s, and they love each other (FINALLY), at the moment, they are cuddled on the couch together.

As for me, well, nothing much has changed.

Listening to a five-CD set of Charles Mackerras-conducted music.  Fantastic sound, fantastic performances - found this in the garage still sealed - heaven knows when I got it.  I'm not all that for Mr. Mozart, but I really enjoyed Symphony 40 as performed here - of course the main tune is instantly recognizable.  I'd never heard the Dvorak 7th and that was pleasant and in beautiful sound.  Then we had the Sullivan/Mackerras cello concerto - delightful.  Then the Janacek Sifonietta for Strings - nice piece.  And now a rather excellent performance of The Rite of Spring, again in superb sound.  It's amazing how different every performance of this work is.

Prior to that I'd listened to Mackerras doing Mahler's sixth (not part of this set) - it was a freebie with BBC Music Magazine in the 90s - I have many of those discs.  It's a live performance, and it's undone by horrible sound - dynamically all over the place so that one has to constantly adjust one's volume level, and it's mastered very low to start with.  The performance is certainly interesting - not my fave but I heard things in the orchestration I've never heard before.  It's the second recording in two days that puts the andante second - Mahler was on the fence about it - my feeling is the andante is so emotional and gorgeous that it hasn't been earned in second position.  For me, it's much more affecting in third position, which is how most of the recordings have it.

The main food item that I'm going to bring to the potluck are meatballs in Yoshida sauce (http://www.mryoshidas.com/Products/Original%20Gourmet%20Sauce%20Sweet%20and%20Savory_86%20oz).  Yummy!

Not in the morning.  We have the morning break and gift exchange at 10:00 am, then the main lunch at 1:00 pm.  Once that's over, we can settle down and get some work done.

The whole event, though, is voluntary.  There are a coupe of people who take the day off, and a few other people come to work but don't participate in the partying.

I don't know.  It could be, or maybe people can't afford (or just don't want) to contribute to the potluck or gift exchange.

But no one is expected to participate.  It's totally okay for anyone to be there and just work instead of partying.

Most people who normally work there wouldn't, but sometimes others are there for meetings and if there aren't too many others, they can partake, but I do'nt think that that's happened in a long time.
