Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of our very own Nick Redman, and now it is time for you to post until our very own cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GARGANTUAN!
-
In addition to Jrand's wonderful review, TCB is also now up and it, too, is a beautifully written thing.
-
Bruce, that is a very lovely tribute to Nick. You had me in tears.
-
Very nice remembrance, BK. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I hope it is okay. I always agonize over writing reviews.

It's great, Tom!

I recorded Torch Song Trilogy on TCM recently and am burning a DVD for myself. The movie was released in 1988. The last "act" is set in spring of 1980 and the first shot of that section is of the twin towers. It's been quite a while since I've watched a vintage movie with just random shots of the towers.

How did I not know you used to live in NY?
-
Good morning.

Beautiful carpet, Jane.
I love how you all think of me when you see weird carpets.
-
Good morning, all.
-
George, thanks for posting the photo.
-
Laura I am glad you liked the photo.
-
TCB, lol. I know you can appreciated those swirls would not be fun to look at in rough waters. Fortunately we didn't have too high of waves.
-
Now I am going to read the tribute. I wanted to catch up on tne posts first.
-
It is a beautiful tribute filled with love :(
-
We walked about 6 miles while waiting to check into our room then followed that with a trip to the workout room. After showers and a short rest we went to the beautiful bar in the hotel for drinks.
-
It must have been about 90 degrees this afternoon and very humid so we were happy to eat dinner here. The hotel has 3 restaurants and tonight we ate at the highly rated, best in Singapore, Chinese restaurant. Our meal was super Instead of rice we ordered a dish of noodles which were the best noodles we have ever had.
-
Good morning to all
-
A wonderful tribute to Nick Redman
-
Last night I settled into basking in the mellifluous tones of Nick Redman's voice as he discussed, with his lovely Julie Kirgo, THE BIG HEAT and MOBY DICK. I had listened to these two commentaries way back when I acquired the movies, and I returned to them now because I knew what I was in for, and because it would be pleasant to have those classic movies playing, which I could glance up and follow along with, or not, as I pleased. Nick Redman's speaking voice was always to die for, but he was also one of the best film researchers and commentators, period, and he and Julie were the perfect team.
Having been here for lo these many years, I grew to feel more and more like I actually knew him. Of course I didn't, but the one evening I spent in their presence is as memorable to me as if it had happened two months ago. I was with the Home Theater Forum in Burbank, and Nick and Julie gave an evening-long presentation on the then-still-new Twilight Time label. BK joined for that, and when he arrived we went into the bar where Nick and Julie and their partners Brian Jamieson and Mike Matessino (I think he was there!) were relaxing before the evening kicked off. I later asked BK and Nick to hold still for a moment so I could snap this.
-
After dinner we went for a little walk. The back of the hotel exits into an indoor mall with an outdoor feel to it. We found little travel scissors to replace the ones that would confiscated at the airport in Saigon when we flew to Siem Reap. The confiscated scissors have traveled everywhere with us for years without any issues going through security. Of course had we known we would have left them on the ship.
-
Nice story DR Chas and thanks for the photo.
-
'night.
-
I have quite a number of the Twilight release and always enjoyed his insightful new commentaries on the films he chose to do. The only CD that I have that I know he did was the soundtrack of Hello, Dolly! I wished he was allowed to use Call On Doll, Main Titles, the Waiter's Gallop, The Dance Contest, End Titles/Exit Music. and the film versions of Put On Your Sunday Clothes and Dancing
-
BK:
I don't recall if I ever met Nick or not, but I certainly recall your talking about him.
Sorry for your loss.
-
Here are Nick, Brian, and the fellow who was reviewing Twilight Time releases for HTF at the time, whose name I am temporarily forgetting. And of course Nick and BK. I snapped these while talking with Julie, and I frankly wished we could have just stayed in there for a while longer.

DR Druxy, you were next door that same evening (Monsterpalooza?). BK and I walked through the place after the TT presentation to see who was there (we already knew you would be). I also got to shake the hand of Bert I. Gordon.
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, your notes about Nick were wonderful.
-
I am going to do some laundry today and work on How To Succeed . . .
-
First I must tidy up and make my patrol with Annabelle.
-
Good morning!
-
Such a nice tribute to Nick, BK.
-
Seeing those pictures, I have to shake my head at the quality I get now with the iPhone 7+ as opposed to the camera I was using then.
That was a good camera that should have been great at auto-focus and auto-exposure. It also permitted highly configurable manual photography, which is all stuff I had learned quite well back in the day. But in many photos such as these, I never achieved the quality I expected.
Now I can snap and snap with the iPhone and the results are sharp, colorful, and so much more "alive". I still have that camera, and sometimes I think I should pick it up again. And then I think, why?
-
Patrol made, I'm on my second cuppa coffee. As soon as I finish it and check out Facebook, I will begin the laundry. The building seems quiet so there should be no lines in the laundry room. I expect it's the long weekend.
-
I look forward to making a future patrol with the two of you, DR Elmore!
-
It is so cold today. -33C with windchill. And somehow we are still supposed to get a snowstorm overnight and tomorrow. :(

I have some Nick Redman commentaries that are as yet unheard, and I love having those in the bank.
The first time I ever consciously heard him was with BK on THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL. I'd heard a couple of commentaries moderated by him, but had never quite attached the name. When I acquired and devoured NUDIE, there he was, and that's how it started.
I'd considered honoring his love and expertise for Sam Peckinpah last night by watching THE WILD BUNCH, to be followed by his commentary and their documentary. That would be an insanely long evening, and in the end, the quieter time spent with the other two classics was just right.
-
BK what a lovely Nick tribute in the notes!
-
Yes lovely tribute to our very own Nick Redman.
I would say my favorite works of his would be the BluRay of THE EGYPTIAN and his commentary of The Wild Bunch and his documentary...
AND - his double CD of the music from both film versions of STATE FAIR!
-
Nice review DR TCB.
-
That was some carpet DR JANE.....I'm not sure I could live with that on land OR sea.
-
I look forward to making a future patrol with the two of you, DR Elmore!
I'll start pulling more book donations soon, but you are welcome any time!

I'm on my euthanasia crusade this morning. Here's an example of why I detest the Bew York ACC's cavalier attitude to videotaping only certain dogs and why I believe every animal entering the ACC should have several photos and at least one video for documentation of their history in that hell hole. This is 8 month-old Dash in the Staten Island shelter. He has one rather unflattering photo that tells a potential adopter nothing about this dog or its personality. He doesn't even look like a puppy!
The video shows so much more:

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.

Even though she's not on the calendar, happy birthday to dear reader Amy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR AMY 🎂🎁🎉⚘🎈
-
That sleeping thing didnt last too long. I woke up choking and having a coughing fit. Now I think I am afraid it will happen again if I fall asleep. I really don't want to disturb
Keith since he hasn't slept much in the ladt couple of nights.
-
The laundry is finished, and I need to clean off my work table.
-
Good afternoon.
-
The Sciatica is gone, the weather is nice, and I don't think I have to worry about running into someone I don't want to see, so I went for my 10,000 step walk. Sadly, though, a Dairy Queen was on the route, so I probably enjoyed consuming the calories I burned.
-
My wonderful next-door-neighbor did a couple of clicks on my phone, so now I get a notification if there is activity in my driveway, which there is not.

How did that get there??
-
You'd think after 40 years, somebody would have done something about it.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Bruce, I'm so sorry to hear about Nick. I know you two were great friends. Such a loss.
-
Larry, are you over your cold now and feeling better?
-
I did today's laundry and a few other things around the apartment. There's always more to do. I'd like to get a bit more done today.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR AMY!!
May you have a mot wonderful day!
-
I agree that the carpet pattern on the ship was not a good choice! Whoever thought that'd be a good idea??
-
I have no news.
Stay warm, stay well, stay safe.
TTFN.
-
Happy Birthday DR AMY.
-
Well this morning it was 62 degrees in the house. I called Jack the heating man....it is 4:45 p.m. and he is now here checking things out.
-
When my sister was cleaning things - she stored the furnace book someplace - the book that had the key to the flashing lights....I had to take the cover off to look.
So I copied them down and taped them to the wall in the furnace room.
-
Happy Birthday DR Amy!!!
-
The soup kitchen went well. We served about 120 meals
-
I had my hairs cut
-
Same lady as always who always does a nice job,but today she was getting excited about politics and went crazy with teasing and spraying...I look like Dolly Parton . I will have to do a shampoo and restyle tonight
-
Happy Birthday Edisaurus ACE

Rehearsal was fun but ninety minutes longer than it was supposed to be so I am really behind. I had managed to futz and finesse half of yesterday's stuff. Also, called the Smokehouse for reservations and they tell me they're overbooked from 4:30 to 8:30 and won't take reservations but that they are taking walk-ins. Sorry, I don't get it. Either you're overbooked or you're not overbooked. I'm sickened by this turn of events, but I'm not about to drive to Burbank and be told there's an hour wait. Will not do. Which means it's Barone's, which I really DON'T want again, or maybe Hugo's. I'm not sure what other options are around here.
-
I agree that the carpet pattern on the ship was not a good choice! Whoever thought that'd be a good idea??
And I read it was well received when it was installed.
-
Finished futzing and finessing and wrote three new pages - was hoping for five before dinner, but I don't think that will happen since they'll be here in forty minutes and I have to shower and get ready. Maybe one more, though.
-
I decided on Valley Inn, which is kind of the Sherman Oaks Smokehouse. No games there, took the reservation immediately.

Back from a fun and nice dinner with Peyton Kirkner and her mom. I asked my artist friend Jimmy Mulligan (tons of Disney art) to do an original watercolor of Peyton playing her character in A Carol Christmas. I sent him some photos and he finally did it (it was supposed to be ready last week for the dinner we had then, but he was very busy). He's done one other as a favor to me and that was Sami in Welcome to My World. He did a great job and Peyton went nuts for it, as did her mom.

That's so cool!
-
The Valley Inn isn't as good as the Smoke House, but it's along those lines. Peyton had escargot as her starter - I've actually never seen anyone eat escargot but she loves it. I had a Caesar, which was merely okay - the Smoke House's small Caesar is fantastic. They also have garlic cheese bread at Valley Inn but it's not that interesting. Peyton and I had the filet mignon - mine I had with bernaise and it was pretty excellent. Peyton ate hers all up. I had a baked potato and ate half of it. Peyton's mom had the Valley Inn's signature dish, fried chicken. I had a taste and it was great.
-
I came right home after that and wrote two more pages, so about nine or ten to go, I suppose. I need to take a little break, then I'll start at nine and go as long as I can. Several plot points made themselves known to me about ten minutes ago - and that will make things go a little faster.
-
Happy birthday Amy.
Bruce our family is sorry for the loss of your friend.
-
Heard from Julie Kirgo via e-mail. She's asked me to sing at Nick's memorial - Hushabye Mountain. Of course I gave her a very quick yes.
-
I'm burning DVD copies of Show Girl for a few fellow Hainsies and Kimlets.
-
I watched a little bit of it as it was recording.
-
Her Marlene Dietrich scene in the second act was hysterical! :))
-
Page four? Really?
-
I've done about thirteen pages so far - will do at least two more right now, then do the notes, then I'll decide how far I want to go tonight.
-
The 2018 National Theatre production of Follies is available on iTunes.
-
I'll get it when the CD is released.
-
There's not even a digital booklet available with it.
-
:P is what I say to that.
-
OMG I want to see your Dolly Parton do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll check it out!
-
I would have enjoyed the show more, except my back decided to act up, just before the show started.
-
Almost sixteen pages and ready to end another chapter. I've decided that as I take this home the chapters will get shorter and shorter, which will be fun. Now for some notes.
-
I had pain pills with me, my emergency supply, but no water or other liquid to take them with until intermission.
