Well, you've read the notes, the notes were VIP notes, and now it is time for you to post until the VIP cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PALIMPSEST!
-
First post after BK!
-
Today, I have a meeting, but it's going to be at the Tumwater Library branch instead of where I work. Other people from my building are going to this meeting, but I don't know if any others are carpooling or walking. It's one street over from where we are, so it wouldn't take long to get there, either way.
-
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
I seemtobe having a Corsican brothers experience with Elmore. For the past three days I have been getting excruciating pains in my lower left back... then they go away and suddenly without warning hit again...
Elmore get better will,ya?! You're killing me, here!
-
Last night the ladies from the office got together with the woman I replaced and I was invited to join them.
-
I already had plans for last night our church was having a Theology on a Tap night... where we meet at a restaurant andhave a discussion over drinks and a meal
-
It's one of my favorite church events plus I had invited my friend Who is not a member of our church to join us
-
So I ended up with a quick drink ( we shared a pitcher of white wine sangria) and appetizers with the girls from the office at a Mexican place around the corner (to which I had never before gone)
-
I thought about ordering an enchilada in honor of HHW. But there really wasn't enough time
-
Then at 6:30 I zipped off to the other restaurant for a really nice discussion
-
There I had a non alcoholic Heineken and some Reuben sliders
-
I just had a quick glimpse of the moon on my way home, by then it was just looking ordinary and not particularly "super"
-
I totally forgot to look at it earlier in the evening
-
John, I liked your newspaper story from last night, but of course she should have been ordering the 6 oz sirloin medium rare with mushroom smother, the house salad with no egg and no tomato with ranch dressing and the sweet potato with honey butter
-
Well about time to pop into the shower and get dressed for work
-
Good morning, all!
-
I just had two over easy eggs seasoned with Penzey's smoked Spanish paprika and sunny Paris seasoning
-
And coffee
-
Sorry to be causing you pains, DR vixmom! I wish I could get them to go away.
-
And I do have them again this morning, not so severe but I got 'em.
-
Sorry to be causing you pains, DR vixmom! I wish I could get them to go away.
:-*. Feel better soon!
-
And I do have them again this morning, not so severe but I got 'em.
Me too
-
I have been trying stretching exercises to try and make them go away and my back is popping and crackling like a bowl of rice krispies
-
My plans for today have fallen through, and that pleases me quite a lot. It's wet outside and I am perfectly happy being inside with the kitties.
-
Sorry to be causing you pains, DR vixmom! I wish I could get them to go away.
:-*. Feel better soon!
You, too! ♥️
-
Good morning, all.
-
Yikes. Stop with the pains, you two. I don’t need them spreading into Connecticut.
Wait. I did have a bit of an achey neck this morning...
-
This morning I must get myself and my stuff ready for my first rehearsal with the SHREK orchestra this afternoon.
-
It’s a student orchestra, so there will be several of these.
-
The keyboard programmer and I are still going back and forth on keyboard patches, but that’s all right, we have plenty of time.

Since is "Ida Lupino Day," it gives me an opportunity to promo my one-woman play, IDA: THE LAST LUPINO, which is currently available in paperback and Kindle editions via Amazon.
And, within a few days, an audio edition will be available, brilliantly performed by Kathleen Godwin.

Oh — Speaking of conflicts (which, actually, nobody was)...
Yesterday afternoon it killed me to have to tell Mr. Robert Harris of all people that I’ll be playing a show at the same time they’ll be running Lawrence of Arabia at their renovated theater on an upcoming Sunday afternoon. I shall have to try my best not to weep during the final chorus of “What I Did For Love”...

AmsterDog posted this photo of Scooter on his way to his new home. Like the proverbial fisherman, I will always regard Scooter as the one that got away. The timing was all wrong.
-
Back vibes for DR ELMORE and DR VIXMOM - this morning my back was hurting as well.....
-
Everything I am - I owe to VIP.
-
Scooter, VID!
-
Hmmmm.....I like Miss Ida Lupino is just about everything....I guess my favorites would be:
THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT
DEVOTION
THE HARD WAY
Robert Ryan.....I never got his message....I like his voice, but he is not so much to look at. But I do like:
BORN TO BE BAD
EXECUTIVE ACTION
GOD'S LITTLE ACRE
MRS. LESLIE
-
Good for Scooter!
-
Good morning!
-
It's apparently going to rain all day in Northern Virginia.
-
DR Jan according to my fitbit, which I wore all day, I walked 10 miles yesterday. Three on the treadmill at the gym, three or more in the afternoon, and a couple more after dinner. It was too beautiful not to get out.
-

Only one street over I would think you would be walking.
-
DR Vixmom I am glad you were able to spend some time with the office crowd before your planned event.
-

Happy photo. I have had a number of those "the one that got away" but that feels much better than the ones that haunt me.
-
Good morning.
-
Hi Tom. Good luck finding new places to view today.
-
T.O.D.
I have nothing to add regarding either Miss Lupino or Mr. Ryan. I am sure I saw them both in many films, but nothing stands out to me. I did get to see Miss Lupino directing an episode of some TV series back in the early days of the Universal Studio Tour. And I did enjoy Ida Lupino and Howard Duff in an episode of the LUCY-DESI COMEDY HOUR.
-
Hi Tom. Good luck finding new places to view today.
Thank you. Actually I found one last night that I need to go look at today or tomorrow.
-
It is not my "perfect home," but I will probably look at it anyway.
-
Well, I must be leaving soon. I'm going to stop at probably McDonald's for a snack to eat on the way down to Norwalk.
Reason for McDonald's: If you choose carefully, they have a few foods that aren't messy, making for the best eat-while-you-drive variety. I don't fool around with anything that's going to distract me in that way. I do need something to carry me through, and I don't have time for anything else.
-
BK sighting! I walked in to my dining area and saw him on The Partridge Family on Antenna TV. I thought "he looks familiar."
-
Nice to see you here in the morning, TCB!
-
(That should have said "eat-neatly-with-one-hand-while-you-drive".) :)
Usually a McDouble (small cheeseburger) works. The sausage & egg burritos are usually spotless as well. McNuggets are perfect if you're not dipping into a sauce.
And a large Diet Coke is "just enough".
-
Some of you were talking about Burger King ("BK") Whoppers.
I love 'em, but car food they ain't. Even the way I order them, which is fairly dry, they're messy. But I don't ever think of doing Burger King very often. Once or twice a year would be about it.
Same with Wendy's.
Sadly, no In-N-Out on the east coast. I believe the company has actually stated that they have no desire to expand beyond the territory they've been thriving in.
-
I'm up I'm up - six hours of sleep. No e-mails this morning so I guess I'll have to raise a ruckus.
-
And I do have them again this morning, not so severe but I got 'em.
Me too

That's a very (bitter)sweet picture.

Cool!
-
Good afternoon.
-
Druxy, did you see the question I asked about Thurl Ravenscroft the other day?
-
I made 38 dozen muffins before I ran out of vegetable oil.
-
One interesting thing I've found on the newspaper site in searching for something else circa 1955 - a touring cast at the Huntington Hartford of a play that had been done on Broadway five years earlier called The Man - a chilling, thrilling suspense drama. I looked it up - it starred Dorothy Gish and Richard Boone. Why a tour would happen five years later on a show that only ran 90 performances is anyone's guess - the tour starred Miss Billie Burke (that's exactly how she's billed) and Douglas Dick. I nosed around and found a published copy cheap so I'm getting it, and further research reveals that it was turned into a film called Beware My Lovely starring Ida Lupino and Robert Ryan.
-
And two weeks into the run Miss Billie Burke is gone and original star Dorothy Gish has taken over.
-
Ha! I told the lady in charge and she brought more oil. I guess I'm not done yet.
-
It is not my "perfect home," but I will probably look at it anyway.
Good luck.
-
I made 38 dozen muffins before I ran out of vegetable oil.
Oh no, will that be enough?
-
Ha! I told the lady in charge and she brought more oil. I guess I'm not done yet.
;D This answered my question.

I seem to have caught a very mild case.

Hello, everyone.

Feel-better vibes to all who are ailing.

Nice photo of Scooter. But what sort of vehicle are they in? Is it some sort of animal-friendly thing?
-
And always the same back to you DR Jeanne.
-
Oops, the photo didn't repeat. Don't know why it didn't.
-
Thanks, Jane.
-
Funny DR Jeanne that I didn't notice the back of the car until you mentioned it.
-
DR jan, DR Jane also lives in Washington state now, but she doesn't post late at night as much as TCB and George.
-

You were busy looking at Scooter.

I saw my doctor today for my annual physical. I like my doc, but I truly loathe the facility. Their offices are in a 3-year-old complex that is very hip--Whole Foods Market, lots of restaurants. When you drive into the parking garage from the street it is suddenly very dark. No lighting? Surely, that can't be. Then there's very little signage. The elevator is hidden behind a wall. There is now a small sign directing you to the elevator, but the first time I visited I could not find it and had to roam around and ask lots of people, most of whom didn't know. Truly a weird arrangement.
-
Once you find the medical offices the weirdness continues. There's a check-in area. God forbid we miss an opportunity for you to fill out legal forms. Then you go to a second waiting area. It's difficult to explain the decor. Lots of seating, yes. Also little bistro tables, with high chairs (not the infant variety). Since I'm sure they don't want you eating there, I really don't know what they are for. Was the designer used to designing restaurants?
-
Find your own way.......glad you could locate the office DR JEANNE.
-
DR CHAS SMITH is correct, a Whopper cannot be eaten neatly....many napkins are needed.
-
A nurse eventually arrives to take you to the exam room. Thankfully, it was a different exam room than the subzero room they used to use. I asked once why it was so cold in there. I was told that the technicians had tried to adjust the temperature, but couldn't get it right. (This is a new building.)
The nurses are always very young, in their twenties, and very brusque, never friendly or pleasant. It puts me off when the NURSE starts telling me what tests and procedures are recommended, because she is working from a very generic checklist, has never met me before, has no idea what ails me, and NEVER bothers (like most docs) to check my allergies. It's the one-size-fits-all approach to medicine and the opposite of what I feel health care should be. I told her "The doctor and I will discuss it." The doctor knows me, knows my history and preferences, and we get along well. Thankfully.
-
Did I mention that the entire facility is COLD? They could offer patients a blanket, but they don't. Then they tell you to take your clothes off. I wait until the last minute, knowing that if I request a blanket they won't have one available.
-
My doctor comes in and we're discussing my ailments and questions. All the exam rooms are equipped with motion detectors. If we're both sitting quietly, talking, the motion sensors don't pick up enough movement and the lights suddenly dim. I find this the height of unfriendliness. The motion detectors are located behind a privacy curtain, which is kept closed, so the dimming of the lights happens about three times each visit. Then one of us has to pull the curtain aside and wave a hand in front of the sensor so the lights will come back on. Have you ever heard of anything so stupid? A total misuse of technology!
-
Somehow the doctor and I get through both his list and mine, the nurse takes blood, the doctor sprays some skin thingies (ouch!), and then adjusts me. I ALWAYS feel rushed, always feel like I must talk fast to cover all the ground in the allotted slot. He's an osteopath and always adjusts me because I have scoliosis and always need it, but conventional medical practice doesn't take this into account.

Pardon my French, but ... W in T almighty F?

I brought the doctor a Choc Zero bar, so he could try one. I learned of them here from DR George and wanted my doctor to be able to recommend them to his diabetic patients. He was quite delighted to receive it.

Yeah. Exactly. It's difficult to imagine a less patient-friendly atmosphere.

DR jan, DR Jane also lives in Washington state now, but she doesn't post late at night as much as TCB and George.
Thanks DR Jeanne. I had kind of thought the guys would mention it last night ;)
I did have a good laugh telling Keith about it today :D

Ditto on that. I suggest taking a little flashlight for the garage.

High chairs for sick people to climb up on, so very odd.

What! They should be nice and double check your information, not offer their opinion. I have never heard of such a thing and am glad you put her in her place. I know, she is probably just doing what she was instructed to do. I likely would have complained about it.
-

I have put a coat/sweater back on, a suggestion by the nurse to do just that.
-
The people at the top of these large medical centers receive mega-buck salaries and I'm sure they think everything is just dandy. Everything to them comes down to money. My doctor is a caring person and tries to help his patients get through the medical maze, but I just don't get that from any of the other employees.
To me, this is NOT health care. It is Medical Procedure Administration. They decide which tests and procedures you should have, submit referrals, and that's that. I'm grateful I found a caring doctor.
-

Ridiculous. It is a very good thing you like the doctor.

Kudos for spray the skin thingies. I can rarely get a doctor, beside my dermatologist, to do that.

I need to try one of these.

I'm sure she felt she was checking my information and that's what she was told to do. She was going by the checklist they use. But I don't feel a nurse should be doing this, particularly one so young. I feel it's between me and my doctor. Privacy is important to me and I don't feel I need to share my medical concerns--whatever they may be--with anyone other than my doctor. But UCLA was the same way. Privacy seems to be an old-fashioned concept.
-
My doctor gets right to the point, not much chit chat unless it is related to my medical issues. I still like her. Keith's doctor on the other hand was mostly chit chat and personal but missed medical stuff. He will be switching practices.
-

It was my doctor's suggestion. I had some new spots that I asked him to look at. He sprayed them and found others.
-
It can be very difficult to find a doctor you like. I have special issues and don't fit AT ALL into their one-size-fits-all mold. But most people over 50 have medical issues and need someone who's alert to their needs, not the needs of the institution (roll 'em in, roll 'em out).
-
Jane, do you and Keith have original Medicare?
-
TTFN.
-
Oops, the photo didn't repeat. Don't know why it didn't.
The photo is not hyperlinked from a website. When I do that, I manually copy the photo URL then put [ img] and [ / img ] (without the spaces) around the copied link, then it'll show. If you quote my post, you'll see what I did. :)
-
I called my chiropractor to see if he could see me today , I thought perhaps he could relieve some of this ache, but today was his day to be closed
-
Maybe I can get in tomorrow
-
Back vibes fir the whole dang bunch of us
-
TCB did you go see the house?
-
Jane, do you and Keith have original Medicare?
We did but due to not finding a primary physician that takes it we had to switch a an advantage plan. We are now with Regence Blue Cross. Originally my doctor took Medicare, which is why we went to that practice, and then the office dropped it.
-
Back vibes fir the whole dang bunch of us
Mine might be partly due to my hip. It hurts the most when I first stand up after sitting. I was fine on our walk once I got started. We took a short one for us and will go out again in a little bit. Two shorter walks is easier than one long one.
-
Back vibes for all.
I am still eye rolling at DR JEANNE's experiences.....
-
I eat way too much candy let alone other sweet. Because I exercise and am thin doctors are never concerned when my glucose is elevated. Figuring I should check this out more I went and did a blood test that checks your sugar levels for three month. Darn if it didn't show I am pre-diabetic. A perfect example of why we need to be pro-active regarding our health care.
-
I am not going cold turkey on sugar but I am trying to reduce my intake. Any suggestions on alternatives, without artificial sweeteners which I hate, will be appreciated.
-
Back vibes for all.

:D Understandably.

DR Jane, I'm so sorry! I thought you lived in Oregon but now I have three favorite Washingtonians. Do you live near Tom and George?

Yes...and higher up potentially means a much greater area of splatter if one vomits! :o

I need to try one of these.
The company has its own website: https://www.choczero.com/ (https://www.choczero.com/)
-
But, I usually get the milk chocolate squares (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZMANU6/) and the dark chocolate squares (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LQYCRWW/) from Amazon.
-
I am not going cold turkey on sugar but I am trying to reduce my intake. Any suggestions on alternatives, without artificial sweeteners which I hate, will be appreciated.
The aforementioned chocolates contain no sugar (artificial or real). They're sweetened with monk fruit extract, a natural sweetener that doesn't affect blood sugar the way real sugar does. And even then, they're not really that sweet...certainly not as sweet as Hershey's or Nestlé's chocolate.
-
Also (and also from Amazon), I've gotten Monk Drops - 100% Monkfruit Liquid Sweetener, Zero Glycemic, Zero Calories, Zero Sugar, No Added Water, Concentrated Monk Fruit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQLG4P7/).
-
And a sugar alcohol called Erythritol (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XA49BG/). There are many brands of this, but this is just what I got. I really like it, too.
-
Good evening.
-
I used almost 6 containers of eggs.
-
Well, I need to leave and go to the theater. It's the beginning of the last weekend of Bunbury! Hopefully, we have good crowds.
Be back later.
-
Had a fun lunch meeting, banked, picked up a box of useless books but was happy that they're from the right printer and therefore look great. No order placed today because the files are there but still not showing - hopefully in the morning. Otherwise, I've been relaxing and tonight I've put aside for writing commentary. Right now I'm listening to the wonderful Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet ballet. I had a little not very good sandwich for lunch - not much to it, flavor or size-wise - that's all I've eaten all day so I can have something light right now prior to writing.
-
That’s some of my favorite Prokofiev.
-
DR Jane, I'm so sorry! I thought you lived in Oregon but now I have three favorite Washingtonians. Do you live near Tom and George?
I assure you I was not offended :)
We live just over the border from Oregon and can see the Portland airport from our place. We are an hour and 40 minutes from DR George and about two hours and 15 minutes from DR TCB.
-
Oh, and we live in Vancouver, the original Vancouver vs the beautiful one in BC.
-
DR jan, DR Jane also lives in Washington state now, but she doesn't post late at night as much as TCB and George.
Thanks DR Jeanne. I had kind of thought the guys would mention it last night ;)
I did have a good laugh telling Keith about it today :D
So sorry, Jane! I don't know what I was thinking (or not) last night. ::)
LOL It was late and I was already asleep.

Yes...and higher up potentially means a much greater area of splatter if one vomits! :o
That's funny.

I brought the doctor a Choc Zero bar, so he could try one. I learned of them here from DR George and wanted my doctor to be able to recommend them to his diabetic patients. He was quite delighted to receive it.
I need to try one of these.
The company has its own website: https://www.choczero.com/ (https://www.choczero.com/)
Thanks. I have it on my shopping list. Are they difficult to find?
-
But, I usually get the milk chocolate squares (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZMANU6/) and the dark chocolate squares (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LQYCRWW/) from Amazon.
I was looking at those. I hope they taste better than Hershey chocolate. I am just so darn particular.
-
Oops, the photo didn't repeat. Don't know why it didn't.
The photo is not hyperlinked from a website. When I do that, I manually copy the photo URL then put [ img] and [ / img ] (without the spaces) around the copied link, then it'll show. If you quote my post, you'll see what I did. :)
Thanks, George.

Definitely worth a try. I can share them with my neighbor who looks for good low sugar foods.

I agree, they're not super-sweet. Some chocolate is overly sweet, to my taste.
-
Also (and also from Amazon), I've gotten Monk Drops - 100% Monkfruit Liquid Sweetener, Zero Glycemic, Zero Calories, Zero Sugar, No Added Water, Concentrated Monk Fruit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQLG4P7/).
Thanks. I have added it to my, so far short, list of foods to try.

Jane, do you and Keith have original Medicare?
We did but due to not finding a primary physician that takes it we had to switch a an advantage plan. We are now with Regence Blue Cross. Originally my doctor took Medicare, which is why we went to that practice, and then the office dropped it.
I've thought of going to original Medicare to avoid the mega medical groups, but many doctors no longer take Medicare. I'm currently with United Healthcare's Secure Horizons. It's a great value and it covers 20 acupuncture visits/year. But again, you have to find a doc you like.
-
I eat way too much candy let alone other sweet.
You're referring to an A1C? It's a more comprehensive test. But you can still turn things around. Agree about being proactive.

And a sugar alcohol called Erythritol (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XA49BG/). There are many brands of this, but this is just what I got. I really like it, too.
Worth a try though it reminds me of Stevia which Keith likes. Maybe he would prefer Erythritol.
-
Good evening.
Good evening.
-
I used almost 6 containers of eggs.
That is a lot of eggs. I have never baked that much at once.
-

I'm trying to get off sugar--again. I find that once I cut back, even for just a few days, I have less desire for sweets. When I want something sweet sometimes I'll have a couple ounces of lemonade, an old favorite. Sugar, yes, but less sweet than other options and it will satisfy me.

Isn't that just for baking or other freshly made foods? How do you use it?

I used to buy Carve cookies, which are low sugar, but I don't see them in the stores anymore. Their double chocolate cookie was out of this world.
-
Time for some dinner, then I'll finish SAFE.

I wish that worked for me. Thing is, I have never felt better going off of sugar. In fact I usually have less energy which should be the opposite. What I am doing right now is not inhaling it and eating smaller portions.
-
If I am lucky this time around I too will have less desire for sweets as I cut back on them.

Not much on the internet about them. Their facebook page shows a photo of the cookies as recently as January, nothing after that. They are located in the Marina and might just be a local product. Their phone number is
(310) 905-8100 if you want to call and ask who sells their cookies.

Good evening, all.
-
It's been one of those days.
-
The less said the better.

So, I'm home and watching the beginning of the Suspira remake that Luca Guadagnino made last year. It's 2.5 hours long and in a combination of Germany, Italian and English so far.

Would someone please win the $625 million lottery jackpot for me?

I said please and I'll say thank you in advance.

The salad bar I frequent has vegan chocolate mousse. So good! I buy a small amount (2 oz or so), then eat just a couple spoonfuls. It requires discipline, but if I eat slowly and savor it that's all I need.

What would you do with it? Once we take our cut, that is. ;)

I'd pay off my bills, my student loans, my mortgage. Pay some of my folks' bills.
I would probably fund the recording of a few Cole Porter scores I want, starting with Elmore's work on Jubilee. Next is Let's Face It, then maybe Red, Hot and Blue! or Panama Hattie.
Go on a few trips. Do some charity work.
And you, Jeanne?
-
There was just a creepy beyond creepy scene in Suspira involving a modern dance that could possibly give me nightmares.
-
Time for bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
I've written half the commentary. I made a couple of egg/tortilla things for my snack.
-
Now listening to music.
-
The less said the better.
Sorry.

I need that kind of discipline. It helps if you can control the amount you purchase.

I believe it is time for darling Jane to be reading a book, oh, yes, I believe that time has arrived.
-
Good evening
-
Page 6? Really?

Page 7

Greetings, 1 Guest.
-
Apparently, I owe Jane an apology. I guess I misunderstood jan’s comment.
-
I am going to go see two condos tomorrow.
-
Neither one is ideal, but I will check them out.
-
Fortunately, Tracy can go with me to see both of them.
-
I will have to postpone lunch with my sister.
-
I forgot about that when I made the appointment with the realtor.
-
George’s show must be running long tonight.
-
I have read two books on the Andrea Doria.
-
One was called ALIVE ON THE ANDREA DORIA and the other was called DEAD SHIP DOWN.
-
The first one was written by one of the survivors of the shipwreck. The second one was a ghost story about dead Nazis that were being shipped to America on the Andrea Doria.
-
The first book was very interesting until she started in with incorrect information regarding the sinking of the Titanic. She should have stuck her own shipwreck.

That's funny.
Not if it'd happen to you!!
(FYI: This did not happen to me...it's just a joke!)

Do you mean "find" in regards to a brick-and-mortar store? I would assume that they're on-line only.
