Ugh - I missed yesterday around these parts. However, it was this guys 3rd Birthday! Leo has turned into quite the loyal pup, always protecting his Papa and his big brother, Ben. We are really one big happy family.
TOD:
Almond Windmill cookies with almond chips.....I still buy them, but they don't have the almond chips on them anymore.
I also like a Ginger Snap now and then.....but the taste certainly varies by brand.
I have Animal Crackers in my cookie jar because they are easy to eat, and they aren't BIG!

slow news day at HHW
Three!
Jane, thank you for the lovely wishes
and also for the great low-calorie cake!
DR JANE those Ginger Jump Ups look very good.
DR GEORGE reminds me that my mom made Peanut Butter Drop cookies now and then.....very good.
TOD:
Rum tarts. Mom used to make a cookie rolled out paper thin and then cut out. After baking, you’d fill the cookies with raspberry jelly then top with rum glaze.
I don’t have the patience or time to make them so I may never have them again.
It was nice to see my surgeon today. Next Thursday is the two year anniversary of my surgery.
I needed to see him mostly to have his OKAY for my supplies so that my insurance would continue to pay for them.
I also spoke to him about a re connection surgery. He said the it was possible and he would do it if I wanted him to. But because of the loss of so much of my.....you know.....what is left would have to be stretched and I might have difficulties with incontinence, etc....
I told him that I appreciate it, but I wouldn't be trying the surgery. I think he was glad. He wouldn't tell me NOT to do it, but I think he was being polite it telling me the difficulties.....
Make the cookie dough ahead, roll it into balls, and then freeze. Baking won't take long at all and you can bake as few as you want.

Trader Joe's in Alexandria used to sell an apple strudel loaf that was frozen. Not only was it tasty, but I could slice off just one or two pieces at a time and bake them. I've never seen it here.
Speaking of Aussie productions (New Zealand is close, after all), those of you who like Essie Davis might enjoy CLOUDSTREET. It's VERY dark, but she is wonderful in it.

Is it a 3 part mini-series?

6-part. Acorn TV has it. But it is very dark. I watched it all and am glad I did, but it's not an upper.
I read that there will be another season of Brokenwood, too.
Had a quite good second Kritzerland rehearsal. And then a wonderful supper with Peyton and mom. We've got a very big project for Peyton next February - a straight play that I'll be directing for the Group Rep, written by Doug. A huge role and not an easy one.
My grandmother used to make what she called almond crescents...I think they are The same thing as Russian tea cakes
Very buttery cookies with almonds and then when they came out of the oven they were rolled in confectionary sugar while hot
Interview vibes for JohnG

Yes. They are just about the same. Mom, since she was in the South, used pecans. Only difference.
Yes DR JANE.....it's a very personal decision as you say.
MOST people have the re connection surgery when they have the colonectomy but it was not possible when I had mine.
I will take what I have....I'm alive...anyway.....

Mom's cookbook is more about cookies than anything, and there are some beauties in there: Chocolate Surprise Cookies, Springerle, cinnamon stars, Russian tea cakes (aka Mexican wedding cookies), lemon bars, limoncello bars, Spritz (and I don't like Mom's; hers are rather like Play-doh). I'm glad on a certain level that I wasn't in the country for Christmas, because this was the first year Mom didn't send a package of cookies. I think her baking days have come to an end.
I really like to take two oversized cookies, preferably chocolate-chocolate chip, and turn them into ice cream sandwiches. Roll the edges in some chopped nuts, Reese's pieces, coconut or cherries and then refreeze for about 15 minutes.
Yummy.
Is it a wonder I have diabetes?
What I have, too, is a job interview in the morning.
At Hamilton, I think, they had amazing sugar cookies in the hash lines.

you're right, I forgot, they were pecans, it's been so many years

Great news for Peyton.

And why I might end up with it.

Are you sure they weren't with almonds? Mexican wedding cakes are round and, as far as I remember, don't have almond extract. Almost the same except for the shape and almonds.
I wish now I was up and could look at my recipe.
