Well, you've read the notes, the notes were for the mothers out there in the dark, and now it is time for you to post until the mother cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MOTTE!
-
First post after BK.
-
Lots of lovely posts? But no topic listed (as if I didn’t already know).
-
Third post after BK.
-
Good night, George.
-
Good night, jan. Feel better soon.
-
Good night, Tom.

And a Very Happy Mother's Day to All Mothers and Mothers-by-Proxy!! :D
-
Yesterday, before I left for Tacoma, my sister and I went to a local nursery to get our mom a Mother's Day gift. We each got her a BIG garden gnome! I think one was two feet tall, and the other was three feet. They look like cement, but they're hollow and fairly light. I think my mom will like them.
-
Today, we're all getting together at my sister's house. I'm sure that when we play cards, I'll lose. ::)
:)
-
Have a good day, all!!
-
Oops.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy Mother’s Day.
-
I’ve been called a mother- before.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I didn't get to bed till way past midnight, so I'm quite sleepy this morning. Annabelle is being especially needy at the moment and working my last nerve.
-
And a Very Happy Mother's Day to All Mothers and Mothers-by-Proxy!! :D
Thank you.
-
DR TCB, I am sorry you weren't able to see Laura last night and felt so terrible.
-
TCB are you taking everything with you? Might there be a bit of clearing out of things before boxing up your belongings?
-
Sleeping while you heal is good DR Jan.
-
Happy Mother’s Day.
Thank you.
-
We've made our patrol. It's an ugly, wet day here. I was thinking about going to an adoption event but I've decided to stay in. I need to make the bed and tidy the apartment.
-
The cats went batshit crazy last night after I was asleep. The bathroom waste basket was turned over and emptied, the rug was wadded up in one corner of the bathroom, and my toothpaste and brush were in the sink. There are DVDs all over the floor and the lid to one of annabelle's treats is missing.
-
Feel better vibes for HHW's newest condo owner.
-
Cats!
-
Today is my first mother's day.....without my mother.....
I am having a bowl of her favorite Progresso soup....Southwestern Chicken Noodle.....for lunch.
-
I am reading a book I purchased at the Dollar Tree called AUDREY and BILL...A Romantic Biography....
Much of it I already knew or had read.....but there are some nice photos.
IN the section about Audrey and MY FAIR LADY - Edward Z. Epstein writes that "....the voice behind Audrey, Marni Nixon, made the mistake of letting it be known she was the singing voice of Eliza. She was blacklisted in the industry for years."
I never heard THAT before. I will only say that anyone who watches that movie and thinks that Audrey Hepburn is singing needs to visit an audiologist AND and optometrist.....
And it still bugs me that Stanley Hollway's lips don't match the track in "I'm Getting Married in the Morning"......even Annette Funicello could match her tracks in Beach Blanket Bingo....
-
It seems that Peggy Lipton has passed away....

I knew Marni, and I do not believe that at all. She appeared a year later in The film of The Sound of Music, and then played Eliza at City Center in one of their My Fair Lady revivals. After her marriage to Ernest Gold ended, she left Hollywood and hosted a children's TV show in Seattle, but I don't think it had anything to do with being blacklisted in Hollywood.

Impressive is that you slept through all of the noise.

DR Jrand & hopefully not former DR Ron, I am thinking of you both this first Mother's Day without your mothers.

I posted and then saw this. I like your idea for lunch. Instead I put on a ring that had been my mother's.

I am shocked Marni was blacklisted.

Good afternoon

Nice morning at church

The men always make breakfast for the women
-
Fresh made Blueberry pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit salad, coffee and oj
-
Happy mother's day
-
Good morning, all.
No!!
Good afternoon, all.
-
Marni Nixon was never blacklisted so take nothing in that book seriously.
-
Apparently 1900 loud children have lighted next door and are loudly celebrating Mother's Day.
-
Thank you, BK and DR Elmore. Not that I would have believed that for a moment.
-
I've only had about four hours of sleep. Made the really bad mistake of having a little of the leftover chicken salad from Jerry's - it did me in, I'm afraid.
-
I am here to tell you that it’s raining like a mother out there.
-
The man always make abreakfast for the women
I am guess that should be men vs on lonely guy making all of the women breakfast ;)
-
Fresh made Blueberry pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit salad, coffee and oj
Very nice.
-
Helper is coming by to get the Ballet on B'way invoices - we got them in late Friday.
-
Is the other part of the story true, is Marni the one who leaked that she did the singing for Audrey Hepburn?
-
Good afternoon!
-
Watching and enjoying "Bathrooms Over Broadway." Thanks for the suggestion, DR John G and BK!
-
Yesterday when the doorbell rang I rushed to answer it expecting/hoping for flowers. Nope, it was just a neighbor.
-
I just received a lovely arrangement of flowers from Bryan & Kate. The card says delivery date Saturday. I don't think Bryan will be happy about that. Last year they arrived the Monday after Mother's Day so I am grateful they are here this morning.
-
Well, I went to the pet adoption and Annabelle and Thatch have a little sister around 12 weeks old. The ACC gave her the name Vince Noir, but I will rename her.
The ACC just emailed me her photo and credentials. I've assembled her new cage/home and now I must go to the event and bring her home.
-
She’s beautiful, Elmore, regardless of the name.
-
Let’s move on ...
-
Three!
-
Hugs for JRand.
-
Up from a nap.
-
While I was arranging her cage, she got out. She wants to play with Annabelle, and Annabelle is quite delighted with her. Thatch seemed to be afraid of her and he's gone into hiding.

I believe with the addition of a third cat you now qualify as a crazy cat ladyguy
:D

She looks lovely
-
Well I must get ready, we are going out to dinner with my brother and his wife, her parents and her sister and her husband, and my mom
-
On mother's day at one of the most popular"fancy" restaurants in the area

Should be a
zoolovely time

Mother’s Day greetings! Today’s been perfect - church with Rob and Mary Linda followed by brunch at their new home, which is half a mile up the road from their church. They gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and Richard gave me 3 pairs of socks.

Much as the long-gone DR cillaliz and I were polls apart politically, I have to thank her for revving up my wish to have a cat. Thatch is hiding under the bed and will not come out, even to eat. Because I am too neurotic, I am now worried that I have destroyed the delicate balance of the three of us. I would not hurt him emotionally or physically for the world.

My thoughts exactly!
The new kitty resembles Allie, our former housemate. We had a nice visit with her today.
-
I think I am going to rename her Stella.
-
Been trying to clean a little house. Not easy with a bird who wants to play instead.
-
The latest (and I think last) season of A Place to Call Home in transit from the library.
-
Now I have to find time to watch it.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Happy Mother's Day to all our moms.
-
BK neglected to mention that he and I had a lovely little phone chat yesterday. He probably has a lot on his mind. ;)
-
Glad to heat that DR jan is progressing.
-
Vibes to TCB. I hope he's feeling better today.
-
Hugs to Jrand and Ron and anyone else in need.

The latest (and I think last) season of A Place to Call Home in transit from the library.
I started it when it was first released, but just wasn't ready for the series to end yet, so it's on hold. I was thinking about resuming it this week.
-
I have no news.
TTFN.
-
I'm up, I'm up - helper came at eleven and I went right back to bed - so overall I think I may have gotten seven hours of sleep.
-
Yes DR RLP posted a nice photo on BookFace.
Thanks all for the lovely thoughts.
-
DR ELMORE your new kitty Stella is lovely......Thatch will come around.....
-
I think it was general knowledge that Miss Audrey did not do MOST of her singing in MY FAIR LADY.....at least I don't think it was a secret.
There are some videos from the DVD release that have her own voice on a couple of songs....I kind of like her singing on ...LOVERLY.... but not the other two.....
-
Which leads me to my least favorite singing of song lyrics....
Buuu-DEEE and the Beast.....
and...
Wooden Tit be loverly....
-
I'm glad your flowers came today DR JANE.
Have fun DR VIXMOM.
-
I've now gotten three auditions for GEE - none of them quite get it, but I had a devil of a time picking the three pages - it's hard to know what to give them - so I gave them the meeting with her future husband from part one, and then the final scene of the book on the bus. The last one isn't right for this but I'm going to ask her to read the Adriana sides. The middle audition was the best of the three and that gal is very experienced. But she has the same problem as one of my actors in LA Now and Then - the New Jersey "s" - so every "street" is "shtreet."
-
Guess I'll go pick up yesterday's package. Not sure what to do about food - don't want to make anything here, that much I know.
-

I am glad she and Annabelle are getting along well.
Vibes Thatch adjusts and also begins playing with her.

On mother's day at one of the most popular"fancy" restaurants in the area
Oh my. Have fun.
-
I think I am going to rename her Stella.
Stella is very cute.
-
Been trying to clean a little house. Not easy with a bird who wants to play instead.
;D
-
Stella and I played a few rounds of Thatch's ball game, but when I picked her up to put her back into her cage, he hissed and spat at me. She and Annabelle seem to be fairly friendly, and she keeps trying to touch Annabelle. Annabelle sat on top of the cage and watched her for a bit, but I'm not going to Stella roam free until I know Thatch is comfortable. He's been hiding under my bed since she confronted him, and he's refusing to acknowledge any of my usual calls to him. Usually, when I say "Thatch, want to lie down with Daddy?" he's immediately on the bed next to me. When I call "Thatch, you want some dinner?" he's right there. Not today.
-
Stella is beautiful! Thank you for my new niece.

Falling asleep again. TTFN.

Happy Mother's Day to all the HHW Mothers!
-
Around noon, just as Keith finished grouting our bathroom Craig called, perfect timing. We had a nice long chat. Then we went for a long walk along the river and over to the market for a few ingredients Keith needed to make our dinner.
-
The weather has been perfect today making for an extra lovely Mother's Day.
-
Stellaaaaaa!
-
Back from picking up packages and getting McDonald's for the quick and easy meal.
-
Listening to musique de Jean-Michel Damase. I love this guy and wish there were more out by him. Lots of stuff on YouTube that I've been grabbing.
-
Stella is very cute!
-
What th.....?
What am I hearing? Do my eyes deceive me? Is DR Elmore now a mother three times over??? :)
-
I think I am going to rename her Stella.
I have never met anyone who is able to say that name without doing their Stanley Kowakski impression
-
Stellaaaaaa!
See?
-
Well my SIL's parents and sister all sent their meals back ( as they have everytime we've ever dined out with them)
My SIL sat next to me then proceeded to cough out a lung or two, as usual
My mother complained about the noise level in the unsurprisingly full restaurant and her inability to hear anything
My SIL's sister and father got into an argument over whether a YouTube video if a ghost walking through a cannon was real
M SIL tried to convince me that Shakespeare was just a front for a Danish musicians daughter who really wrote all the plays
So things pretty much as expected

He always does. He's quite smart and he recognizes a lot of English words. He's more like a puppy with me than a cat.
-
Stellaaaaaa!
Exactly! My neighbor Judy suggested it. I had been thinking of Megs, but she is more a Stella, and certainly not a Vince Noir. I can't wait for our court photographer ChasSmith to photograph her.

Yuck!

Thatch did come out of hiding around 8:00, then vanished again. I hope he'll crawl in bed with me later. He usually sleeps with me every night. He's my little guardian angel.
-
My filet mignon was perfect...as were my green beans almondine and my mashed taters
Unusually for me , I ate every scrap
-
Stellaaaaaa!
See?
;D

Also unusually for me I ordered dessert...what they called a chocolate souflette....it was a chocolate lave cake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup and I ate every crumb

I almost didn't adopt her. I filled out the application, and then said I'd pass. Then I got all neurotic and thought, if I leave here, I'll always regret not following through. She was so cute, and a much better choice for the apartment and A&T than a puppy.

Sorry, I am not referencing his ability to understand and respond, just that under the circumstances he would not jump up with you. He is a sensitive boy and not happy. Hiding is not unexpected.
My cats almost always came when called, each one responding to their name. If they were stressed that was often a different response.

I thought of Stella Dallas first. Probably because of the Sondheim song.
Stella Dallas had her dreams
She would see her daughter dwell
In stately homes and places
Stella went to all extremes
Till finally a wealthy fella
Showed at Stella Dallas'
Stella worked it pretty well
But in the last analysis
Though Stella's daughter got the swell
All Stella got was calluses

Watching a WWII flick called I Was an American Spy starring Miss Ann Dvorak.

Stellaaaaaa!

Proofed two booklets and off to the printers they go. I'm not watching anything tonight. I've dived into a twenty-CD set, the complete works of Francis Poulenc, a French composer from France. I started with disc six, which begins several discs of his orchestral works - the five before are all solo piano and chamber. All his choral pieces are here as well as all his songs. I love his music and I'm not sure why it took me so long to delve into it - but when I got that big Andre Previn set, there was a great performance of the concerto for two pianos and orchestra - interesting that Previn had nothing to do with that piece but he had something else on that album - that piece was conducted by Bernstein and Gold and Fizdale were the pianists. On this set, we get a great 1957 performance, albeit in mono, with Poulenc as one of the pianists. His piano concerto is fantastic - and one wonders why it's not played more often.
-
Thanks to imdb, I know that the German title of this movie is Ich war eine amerikanische Spionin
-
Good evening.
-
Aww, Stella is very cute.
-
I was going to suggest the name "Betsy." That is the name I saved to name the calico kitten/cat I was going to get some day.
-
I once suggested the names Piesafe and Femur for a cat. They were not taken.
-
Sandra wants to name her next cat "Suitcase."

Who's singing his "Gloria"? It's one of my all-time favorites. I can't say I'm a fan of his operas La Voix Humaine and Dialogues des Carmelites, but the John Dexter staging of Carmelites for the Met is really worth seeing. It's definitive in my book. I do love his one-act opera Les Mamelles de Tiresias; it's funny.
-
Happy Mother's Day, y'all! I am watching RANDOM HARVEST for the first time.
-
A Poulenc set like that sounds wonderful.
-
Happy Mother's Day, y'all! I am watching RANDOM HARVEST for the first time.
Wonderful to see you, TD. Welcome back.
-
Started watching The Favourite, but I think I'm going to turn in. Not because of the movie, which is really weird and really good.
I love Rachel Weisz tossing off lines like, "Let's shoot something!"
-
So tonight we watched BATHTUBS OVER BROADWAY. It was the perfect thing.
BK: Silly idea, perhaps, but I ain’t got no shame: If it were even remotely possible, the prospect of the rerelease of a few of the more cherce industrial musicals would be a fine thing.
-
elmore, yes that's the set. The performance of Gloria is the most famous and apparently best, with Rosanna Carteri from 1961.
-
Vixmom, don’t post anything.
It’ll take me ten minutes or so to get to it, but I can immortalize your millstone.
-
I haven't seen anything quite like this since Peter Greenaway's "The Draughtsman's Contract."
-
I would worry that all this attention would make that difficult - but I know someone who has a pretty large collection of those albums.

The Poulenc box of 20-CDs can be had as cheap as $42 from third-party sellers. That's two bucks a CD. eBay even cheaper: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Francis-Poulenc-Oeuvres-Completes-UK-IMPORT-CD-NEW/273729501485?epid=168249340&hash=item3fbb8cb92d:g:aT0AAOSwBRlcdEvu

I think she was the very first to record it, and I've never heard it. My first recording of the Gloria was Bernstein's with Judith Blegen. It was paired with Lenny's recording of his wonderful Chichester Psalms. I've also got the EMI recording with Barbara Hendricks conducted by Georges Pretre, which is nearly 5 minutes longer than Bernstein's!
I also like his ballet Les Biches a lot.
-
I would worry that all this attention would make that difficult - but I know someone who has a pretty large collection of those albums.
I had no idea what I was grabbing at the time, but several years ago I found a copy of GO FLY A KITE. It looks to be unplayed, but I need to give it the royal cleaning and auditioning treatment.
I'll bet you can hardly find a single one of these now.
-
Stellaaaaaa!
Exactly! My neighbor Judy suggested it. I had been thinking of Megs, but she is more a Stella, and certainly not a Vince Noir. I can't wait for our court photographer ChasSmith to photograph her.
Keep me informed as to progress, and we'll of course have to make that happen.
-
I have this recording of all of Poulenc's songs. The late William Parker was one of my first New York friends and brother of John Parker, who was a friend of DR Ginny's and mine.
-
In school I played the piano in Poulenc's Le bal masqué. I don't remember if I ever owned the music or if it was a school or rental copy, but I'm sorry to see I don't have it now. A delightful piece.
-
We must have done some other of his works as well, but I'm damned if anything comes to mind.
-
Thank you Chas!!

Still on the orchestral stuff, which really is great.
-
Page six? Really?

I wonder if people just conveniently forget that all this Game of Thrones incredulity is exactly and I do mean EXACTLY the same as what we endured with every single episode of Lost. Remember that?
-
Today, we're all getting together at my sister's house. I'm sure that when we play cards, I'll lose. ::)
:)
Yup. I lost...again. But we all had fun.
-
I'm home watching TV. I'm also recording Act One that was on PBS a few years ago so that I can make a Blu-ray disc of it. That wasn't even released on DVD.

What a coinkydink! Stella Dallas was on TCM today, and that always makes me think of the song "In the Movies" from Sondheim's score for Saturday Night:
Stella Dallas had her dreams
She would see her daughter dwell
In stately homes and places....
;)

You know the song, "A Nightingale Sang in Berkekey Square" (I first heard of it from The Manhattan Transfer's version) where Berkeley is pronounced Barkly? I always wanted a cat named Berkeley (pronounced Barkly). ;D
-
I like Berkeley pronounced Barkly.

Hi, Jane.
-
Hi, my friends! I'm still dopey from my pain pills so if I disappear, it's cause I fell asleep again.
-
Well, crap! There's a baby possum in my house!!
-
Here it is. :-\
-
Hopefully, I can get it out without hurting it, or it hurting me! I put Neve upstairs and blocked the stairs. Hopefully, she'll stay out of the way!
-
It is sooo cute. Has it hissed at you?
-

FINGERS CROSSED!
-
I hope I can stay awake long enough to find out what happened.
-
It is sooo cute. Has it hissed at you?
Yes.
-

Yes.
I am laughing while knowing it is a scary sound to expetience inside your home.
-
I took out the shoes on the left to make room for it to get out, and I turned off some of the lights. I also have a fairly sturdy (and long) foam sword to try and push it out, but it's not going.

Yes.

I can understand that, Jane. But I really just don't want either of us to get hurt!
-
Good evening.
-
I felt the same way when it happened to me. The difference is the one in our house had escaped from a box Bryan was keeping it in after saving its life.
-
Happy Mothers’ Day to all of our mothers, as well as all those for whom it is only their first name!
-
td! One post and then you are gone again!
-
Come back, buddy.
-
I haven't seen anything quite like this since Peter Greenaway's "The Draughtsman's Contract."
THE DRAUGHTSMAN’S CONTRACT was probably the weirdest movie I have ever watched. I am still shaking my head and it has been over thirty years since I saw it.
-
So, how are my NWesties? And their fur babies?
-
Whew! I got the possum out!
-
Since it was hiding under my sideboard, I figured that I had a little time, so I got a plastic colander from my kitchen.
-
Then, I was able to gently push it out from under my sideboard towards some empty bottles that I had next to my stairs.
-
I took away the bottles one by one and was able to get it away from the wall and I was finally able to gently put the colander over it!
-
I gently slid some cardboard under it and was able to pick it up, take it outside, open my back gate, let it out of the colander cage, and then get my butt back inside and close my sliding glass door!
-
:D
-
And so ends my first (and hopefully, LAST) experience with a possum in my house!!

I did the play A NIGHTENGALE SANG IN BERKELEY SQUARE. I actually sang the song. PBS broadcast the play (not my production) with Joan Plowright.
-
And neither of you got hurt?
-
And neither of you got hurt?
NO! I'll check in the morning to make sure that it left my yard. It looked pretty young. Hopefully, it got back with its family.
-
It was a wonderful production with a great cast. Most of them didn’t like me, and I didn’t like them.

Awake for the moment but no guarantees.
-
Do you know how he got in to your condo?

Awake for the moment but no guarantees.
Rest is probably the best thing for you.
