Well, you've read the notes, the notes were distracted, and now it is time for you to post until the distracted cows come home.

T.O.D.

I have been a great many near-accidents, mostly due to people talking on their phones and/or putting on their makeup.  I always try to drive defensively, but sometimes it is only thanks to God that I avoid an accident.

Tom, to answer your question from last night, I left my back door open so that Neve could go outside since my back yard is enclosed.  Evidently, it's not enclosed enough!

I had planned to go back to bed after feeding the cats, but Stella is crying so much, I couldn't go back to sleep.  On top of that, Annabelle and Thatch won't go near their food since their bowls are close to Stella's cage. Oy!
Title: Re: DISTRACTIONS WHILST DRIVING
Post by: elmore3003 on May 13, 2019, 04:35:25 AM
While I was putting Stella's food into the cage, she got out, hissed and snarled at Annabelle, and Annabelle stopped eating and ran off to the window in unity with Thatch.  They are watching the birds on the fire escape while their food rots, and Stella is quiet now that she's had a nice breakfast.

I didn't get to sleep before 1:00am, slept soundly until 3:00, then I was wide awake until 4:45 or so when Annabelle crawled into bed with me and curled up beside me.  Thatch never came out from under the bed.  I figure I'll be unconscious around 10 this morning.  I've already made the bed in anticipation of it.

That shouldn't be a shock, but it is, and a sad one. Achieving 97 is wonderful, and she had the most amazing life. Still, it always seemed she was exempt and would be with us forever.

Loved her clean, clear way with a lyric. Add that husky edge and a song like It’s Magic was truly magical.

After taking a decent sized spider out this morning I said to Keith at least it wasn't a possum.  We then opened HHW on his computer so he could read DR George's saga.

Keith kept groaning at all of my mistakes in my posts.  I really was falling asleep as I was typing and had to retype much of what I had written.

I think I may have caught up - it was a busy weekend.

Some DR's asked about why this coming trip to Disneyland may be the last for a while.  Well.... first of all, I'm not renewing my annual pass this year.  I don't think I made it "pay" this year, which is sad.  It's up in July.  I used to love to go at Christmas time, but it's really too crowded, and bring on a "school" schedule, it's hard to go during the school year because I'm only able to go when school is out, like everyone else!   The crowds are just too much.  I'd rather save and go to Walt Disney World, where the crowds may be bigger, but there is more room to roam around and more things to do.

Second reason is the opening on the new land "Star Wars: Galaxies Edge" - I am a Star Wars fan.... so are Disney AND Star Wars fans.  So, imagine the crowds starting on May 31. I just can't handle that anymore.  So, I'm waiting for a while before going back after the next trip.  Disneyland is getting so crowded, other Disney parks can handle the crowds, Disneyland can't, no matter what they do to try and control them.

That's all I'm saying about THAT.....

I had read that most places can recook your too-rare meat if you haven't eaten any of it (especially a burger...I also hate rare burgers).  If you just cut it as soon as you get it and look at it, you can have it cooked more thoroughly, and they restaurant doesn't have to throw away an otherwise perfectly good piece of meat.  But with burgers, if you've taken a bite, I guess there are health codes and laws preventing that from being recooked, even though it's all pretty much sterilized.

Thatch finally came out of hiding and cozied up to me while I worked.  However, he and Annabelle refuse to eat since their eating area is across from Stella's cage.  They must be starving.  Stella is gobbling down everything I serve her, and Thatch is back in hiding.

Back from the DGA, then Astro Burger, then picking up a little package and no mail.  Now listening to Poulenc, the choral music - I don't care for any of the a cappella stuff, just not my thing, so I listen then get rid of it.  But Gloria is on now and that's really pretty great.

Back from an emergency (well, unplanned) visit to the vet with Poe, who began exhibiting the signs of a UTI around noon today. One injection of Convenia and $95 later, we’re back. Back in the early days of our marriage we had a possum problem, landlord trapped it in one of those animal safe cages you are supposed to use for stray cats and squirrels and things...

Vixdad hurried out and found the landlord  filling a garbage pail with water on preparation for submerging the cage and convinced him to let us take custody of the caged opossum

We put heavy plastic bags down in the back of our (then new) Hyundai Excel hatchback and Vixdad wearing heavy work gloves and using two long dowels lifted the cage into the car

That's a wonderful ending to the story.  When I was in college, a friend adopted a raccoon, and all I remember of it now is its chasing people around and nipping their ankles.

My friend Margo had a possum come into her house just last year, but she has a cat door, so it was a lot easier for that to come in.  Anyway, she called some rescue place and they told her that they don't rescue possums, and that possums aren't native species to Washington, so she should just shoot it! :o She, of course, couldn't do that.  She also got a cage, caught it and released it back into the wild several miles away from her house.

Once again Mac Mail is completely retarded and screwy - nothing is synching, it's trying to move messages for hours now, new stuff comes is, doesn't come in, I can't send, I don't know if mail is arriving because AOL and Mac Mail aren't synching - it's so maddening and I suppose at some point it will finish being retarded and get back to normal.  I've quite and launched numerous times but it's still not happening.

I also have a opossum story. Many years ago, when I living in North San Diego County, I had a doggie door for my dog and two cats. Not long after my dog died a opossum was walking through the living room as if he owned the place! I went and got a neighbor, but by then the opossum had left. Apparently, the presence of the dog had frightened him off, but the presence of the cats did not. It was the cat food that attracted him. He'd stand on his hind legs and reach down into the trash to get the cat food can! Opossums really like cat food! My presence didn't seem to scare him at all. He didn't try to attack me, but God forbid someone take the cat food! Ugh!

Back from an emergency (well, unplanned) visit to the vet with Poe, who began exhibiting the signs of a UTI around noon today. One injection of Convenia and $95 later, we’re back. He did beautifully with this when he had it a couple of years ago, and - knock wood - he’s already acting more normal and comfortable now.

Fast acting, good work catching it immediately.

Tonight, Annabelle, Thatch and I watched Dumb Witness, the last of Poirot Season 6, in which a fox terrier named Bob has a prime role.  Since they did not eat their dinner, I opened a can of Fancy Feast chicken hearts and liver, put it into one of their bowls and set it on a napkin on my bed.  Little Thatch gobbled it like a starving man and then Annabelle decided she would have some, too.  I feel much better that they've eaten.

We have had a disaster at our house today.....I am surprised it was not reported on CNN.

Birdy Barnum's basketball goal/mirror was crooked.  I straightened it up and turn the screw to tighten it......AND IT BROKE OFF!

It has been glued on the back and I am waiting for it to set completely before putting it back in the cage.

BUT I am getting the silent treatment and the fish eye because his sports equipment is missing.....at least unless I am getting a strong and loud tongue lashing.....it's fairly evenly balanced between the three....

Poor birdy.

Back from a perfectly amateur thing at the Group Rep - not part of the Group Rep, mind you, but a new member decided that some Fringe show that opens on June 7, should do their evening for everyone.  They shouldn't have.  They should never do it.  I don't know if they'll have a pianist for the show, but here they were working with tracks - not one of the three people could sing with the track in terms of actually singing on pitch and not getting ahead or behind it.  Of the three, the one guy had the only voice you'd say was a voice, but he was flat the entire time and a schmactor of the highest order, but the ladies were, too.  I mean, when you're singing a Sondheim song you don't sing notes that are a third under the written notes and you stay on the damn beat.  This is, I suppose a glorified cabaret act, but it purports to tell a story of three people.  What that story is I have no idea.  This is the living proof that this stupid Fringe festival which everyone thinks is such a big deal to be part of is, in fact, anybody's game.  Anyone can be in it doing anything - just pay the fee.  Horrible.  I'm sorry to have gone on about it, but when I see merde like this it just makes me angry.  Good for them for doing something, but not good for doing it in public for paying people.

At one time I had over the ears headphone that plugged into my cellphone.  I loved driving with them on for handsfree calls.  This was before bluethooth or smartphones with GPS.  I could call Keith to look up directions and get me where I needed to be.

This was also before my hearing went bad and I never felt as if I couldn't hear the traffic.  I also wasn't listening to music with them.

I first heard of these Epson EcoTank printers last year (or maybe a little before).  What's special about them is that they don't have little ink cartridges that cost an arm and a leg.  They have built-in reservoirs that you refill from individual bottles that probably cost about $13 each, and can print so many more pages than the tiny little cartridges that come in most printers. :D

I like the ink refiill.

The bottles that come with the printer (one 4-bottle set (https://www.costco.com/Epson-T502-EcoTank-Ink-Bottles-BK/C/Y/M,-Club-Pack.product.100411661.html) costs $52.99) are supposed to be the equivalent of 30 regular ink cartridges...which can be as much as $50 EACH! ;D

Less expensive, easier than replacing a cartridge,  and probably easier to fiind.

Exactly!

I remember when I still had my cat and had an open cat door.  I was in the den, looked up and saw a possum waddling down the hall towards my my bedroom.  I yelled at it and started to go after it when it turned around and ran back out the cat door.  He was a big sucker, too.

A couple of people at work today told me their possum stories. :o

I don’t see many possums around here (except as roadkill), but we do have a lot of raccoons that come up from the park.

One time my SIL and nephew were out in my yard and came running back in.  They said they saw a huge rat so I went to check.  It was a possum.

I've lived in my condo for twelve and a half years, and this is the first time that I've seen a possum anywhere near my place.

Funny how nature decides what it wants to do.

Most of the new printers have refillable things - HP included.  I'm thinking about it because it costs more than $100 for me to get those combo packages with four inks.  Ridiculous.
