People come, people go, like Grand Hotel.
And thanks, Vixmom, for the Lewis Carroll!! The one remaining complete epic poem still lodged in my brain from childhood is The Jabberwocky. Love the guy. Out-Gilbert's WS Gilbert.
I believe The Loved One is coming.
Vixmom, great you got back on. Did you have to use any of my suggestions?
I'll definitely be seeing Spamalot whilst I'm in town.
Boy when it comes to culture, we're the first hogs to the trough, ain't we?
Happily I don't have to part with limbs - the conductor is a friend and someone I've used on many, many albums of mine.Need a date? :D (Yeah, like DH would let me go!!!)
Skyscraper Souls...isn't that the one that takes place in a large 1930s department store? I do think I remember that one!
Oh yes, MBarnum, Warren William is the epitome of smooth evil in that one.
Hey all. Don't forget tonight is the 2 hour premiere of THE AMAZING RACE!
We're still choosing songs, so no, you're not too late.
DR Danise (and everyone else of course) would this be of any interest to you?
LA CAGE AUX FOLLES
Sat nights available!
The Biggest, Funniest, Hottest Musical of the Year!
g Guide to the Marquis, 1535 Bway & 46th. Not valid 3/25-4/3. Limit 8 tix/ order.
DRvixmom, Saturday night is Penny's show!!!!!!!!
Welcome back, Vixmom! Thanks for all of the Lewis Carroll. Where else on all of the internet would you find the Hebrew translation of Jabberwocky, I ask you?
And, by the way, I find all of your posts to be
"educated, brilliant, and astute"
DR vixmom - Thanks for reminding me to take my Season of Savings Book with me when I head to NYC next week.
I'm also trying to line up a couple of "pit observations" while I'm in the city. If you thought the show on stage was something, sometimes the show in the pit is ever moreso!
;)
I also would love to have AT LONG LAST LOVE.
I'd also like TEN LITTLE INDIANS (with Hugh O'Brien) and TEN LITTLE INDIANS (with Richard Attenborough - deadly dull but I'd like to have them all). Well, the fourth version with Frank Stallone is so terrible that even I don't want it (though I have it on laserdisc and that's sufficient).
Perhaps you should also get the Bollywood version of TEN LITTLE INDIANS...entitled GUMNAAM (1965). It is quite entertaining.
TOD:
Is "Mars Needs Women!" out on DVD? how about "Wild Women of Wango"?
Is it directly based on AND THEN THERE WERE NONE or is it just similar to Christie's story?
Thanks for the info, DR MBarnum. I had no idea this film was in existence and will do some reading up on it.
Vixmom...Mars Needs Women and Wild Women of Wongo are both available on DVD!
And I am amazed that you know of WILD WOMEN OF WONGO!!! I love that movie!!
My husband loves WW of W and I love the "Mars Needs".. just for the opening sequence where they repeat the title of the film four hundred times or so...
I shall have to find these DVD's fro DH for part of his "birthday box" any suggestions for online shopping for these particular goodies?
Both films can be found on Amazon.com or Ebay very easily.
Tell DH that I am in the process ( a 3 year process so far) of tracking down and interviewing the cast members of WILD WOMAN OF WONGO....quite an interesting bunch of people!
. And cousin Alan's ever-lovin' Dee Dee stopped by this morning with a nice food surprise - this incredible appetizer thing she does on English muffins - some kind of crap, parmesan, onion thing. .
one movie I would really love to have on DVD is the 1936 version of Showboat. I enjoy it much more than the one made in the 50's though it is still enjoyable. I really just need to vamp up my movie musical collection, but as I am really just starting I need to have more patience.
I shall be in San Jose covering the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament from Friday to Monday, then I will drive down south and do the same for the Men's Tournament. I am hoping for WARMTH.
Both films can be found on Amazon.com or Ebay very easily.

I will, he'll be most interested. Are any of these interviews available for reading now, or are you compiling them for a book?
I am putting them together for a magazine article...I just need to get two or three more interviews down and then I am mostly done!
But if there is anyone in the cast he wants to know about feel free to ask!
I get these ads...

I don't get to go to New York. ;(
Looking forward to the show, PennyO!\
Me and the gal will be in the 5th row.
So, if you could, you know, play to the 5th row a bit, that would be great.
. I'll be scoring standardized public school tests, specifically 4th grade writing assessments from Ohio. Turns out an education degree actually IS good for something other than teaching!
vixmom and Jane - I don't know WHAT you two are talking about.
PHANTASMAGORIA!
I had the appetizer thing - I think I'm wrong about the craB - I think it's just cheesy and oniony. And VERY yummilicious.
Congrats on the gig... if you want a teaching job come to Long Island we desperately need good teachers here and they pay quite well....
Vixmom - hopefully just THIS time around.....and a later trip to NYC will happen sometime.
Oh, THAT'S where everyone is. Watching a TV show. NOW I understand. PARDON ME.
Holy moley on rye - page six!
PHATASMAGORIA!
I'm watching the Ale and Quail Club and The Weenie King. Name that film.
However, the best part of the evening was going up to my niece, Alyssa, giving her a big hug, and NOT having her scream and run away from me. :D She was in quite a playful mood tonight. She's apparently discovered how to whisper - although I don't think she's grasped the concept completely. Yes, she was whispering things to me, but I'm still not sure what she was telling me and if they were actual words. She was fascinated with the light-up ring I brought for her, and she even thanked me for it. And kissed me too!
I got to see my parents for a bit too. They're both doing fine, and my father truly seems back to normal. .
I excoriate you all to read vixmom's amazon reviews of Writer's Block and Benjamin Kritzer. Beautifully written, and I thank vixmom and, of course, excoriate her to complete her review-writing with Kritzerland and Kritzer Time.
As for tonight's "American Idol"...
Ladies, ladies, ladies...
<shakes head>
:-\
I've all sorts of posts to catch up on today, but first...THERE
ARE
PUPPIES
IN OUR
BASEMENT!!!!!
I was previewing the new DVD of Bambi and I cam across a scene that had me thinking that the same Christian right that said the Sponge Bob Squarepants was offensive could find Bambi offensive. There is a scene where Bambi and Faline sleep together without the benifit of being married. Shocking! Absolutely shocking!!
Around noon today, der Brucer received two urgent calls. The first was from his daughter, who desperately needed someone (or two) to ladsit this evening whilst she and her husband went to meet with a prospective client of his...all whilst said husband is dealing with infected eardrums, infected sinuses, and so on and so forth.
It never fails that if there is one emergency, there has to be another. It, wherever "It" dwells, did not fail us this time at all. Within minutes of der B agreeing to help his daughter, he received the second urgent call, this time from the Animal Rescue group. Diane had just been told by the Sussex County SPCA that, if she didn't pick up an ailing mommy dog and her three pups, they would be disposed of this very evening.
This, of course, left Diane with very little time to find someone who could a) take in four dogs who b) have mange problems and c) probably have other health problems, such as worms, kennel cough, etc. In other words, mommy and the three pups have to be kept separate from the other dogs, and have their health problems attended to...and it all has to happen within the next couple of hours.
Fortunately, we have a basement, so we can keep mommy and the pups separate from the other dogs. We got to the SPCA pound, met with Diane, and took the foursome back home with us.
Mommy, who we have dubbed "Peggy," is a pit bull mix. She is a total sweetheart, if a little afraid, but given that she was suddenly being thrown into yet another new environment, I can't blame her. Her pups, dubbed "Baxter," "Bruno" and "Benedict," are probably somewhere between six and eight weeks old. They are all brindle-colored, happy if shy, and devoted to their mommy.
We've set up blankets and bowls for them all downstairs, and there's heat down there.
There's no telling how long they'll be with us, probably just for a few days.
And der Brucer is calling me to help out downstairs. Laters.
People come, people go, like Grand Hotel.
I would like Warners to release The Spirit of St. Louis.YES!!!
I believe The Loved One is coming.I am biting my tongue. ::)
Well that's it then, I am organizing a DVD burning!!! Grab your pitchforks and follow me!!!!Fantasia is the worst film Disney ever made!
