Well, you've read the notes, you're marched into March eating a Marchmallow, and now it is time for you to post until the marching cows come home whilst eating Marchmallows.

Didn't we do PULCHRITUDE about a week and a half ago? I remember my word of the day sentence was Sophia Loren was the epitome of PULCHRITUDE.

I like all the Boetticher westerns on DVD and I would like another western with Joel McCrea on DVD, called RAMROD, it is a noir western which also stars Veronica Lake, Preston Foster, Donald Crisp, and Don DeFore in maybe his best performance.

And speaking of noir westerns, I would also like to see on DVD...Blood on the Moon and Whispering Smith (which isn't reallly a noir western, I guess).

Lastly I'd like on DVD the great movie about theatre and summer stock and actors, THOSE LIPS, THOSE EYES...starring Frank Langella and BK's erstwhile co-star, Tom Hulce.

I KNEW it sounded familiar.  Damn them, damn them all to hell!  I'm changing it now and then NO one will know what you're going on about.  And we shall laugh and laugh and just when they think we cannot laugh any more, we shall laugh again.

PHANTASMAGORIA!  I've got a million of 'em.

I was actually worried about PULCHRITUDE, but when I tried to search it the search function didn't work.

At the tail end of yesterday's notes, BK wrote:

Quote
People come, people go, like Grand Hotel.

On the off-chance that he was referring to yours truly, I can only say in my defense that it is easier for me to access the new daily notes if I back out of AOL entirely and then reload.

Raspberries, ripening on the vine, would provide us with a PHANTASMAGORIA!

Yes, it is wonderful that so many films that I have wanted to be on DVD are now ON DVD.  But there are exceptions of course.

I would like to see on DVD:

HARLOW with a nice Carroll Baker commentary track.

SON OF FURY with Tyrone Power and Frances Farmer with some nice extras

THE HORSEMASTERS with Annette Funicello a Disney film about Horse Jumpers in England and let's put ESCAPADE IN FLORENCE on the B side.

I will leave other choices to other DR's.

Good morning, all!  Back to BABES IN TOYLAND today.  I've read all about the 1903 Iroquois Theatre fire, I've been looking at scores of photos, and I'm ready to finish the proof of the orchestra score.  I've got one more Act Three number, then around 10 Appendix pieces, which should take me the rest of the week.

Before I start my DVD wish list, what's happening with the LI'L ABNER release?  I can't find an official release date any more, and I hope it hasn't been cancelled or postponed.

DVD requests:
FLOWER DRUM SONG
OH, WHAT A LOVELY WAR!
THE INNOCENTS (Deborah Kerr)
THE UNINVITED
GEORGY GIRL

Hello all!! I had some computer issues  ::)  however they now seem to be OK here at home.  I have to see if they are resolved at the work computer as well.  (Because of the snow the schools are on a two hour delay so I will be going in to the office later) I have been reading along for the past few days as a guest... it was extremely frustrating to read all those wonderful posts and not be able to join in the fun!!

Congratulations to everyone on the 31  pages and 900 posts on Sunday.  It was wonderful reading all your comments, what an brillant , educated and astute group of people post here... it is an education every day and I feel privledged  to share in your conversations.  I suspect I will not be speaking a word at the NYC HHW meet, just listening and enjoying!!

Speaking of the meet, DR derB will you two be joining us?  I do hope so!!

Well I must go and de-ice the car.  Hopefully I will be joining you later from the worksite!!!

Not to be a broken record, but, I want my VALLEY OF THE DOLLS.
I'll second, or third, THE INNOCENTS. (If RETURN TO PEYTON PLACE can be released as a Fox Studio "Classic," then where is/are THE INNOCENTS?)
Ross' GOODBYE MR. CHIPS.
Bogdonavich's AT LONG LAST LOVE - see Fox Studio Classic line above.
HEROES with Harrison Ford, Sally Field and Henry Winkler.
The Alice Faye catalogue.
JUPITER'S DARLING - and, while we're at it, ALL of the Esther Williams extravaganzas.
Ken Russell's THE BOY FRIEND and THE DEVILS.
James Ivory's SLAVES OF NEW YORK.

Phantasmagoria
by Lewis Carroll

The Trysting
One winter night, at half-past nine,
Cold, tired, and cross, and muddy,
I had come home, too late to dine,
And supper, with cigars and wine,
    Was waiting in the study.

There was a strangeness in the room,
    And Something white and wavy
Was standing near me in the gloom--
I took it for the carpet-broom
    Left by that careless slavey.

But presently the Thing began
    To shiver and to sneeze:
On which I said “Come, come, my man!
That’s a most inconsiderate plan,
Less noise there, if you please!”

“I’ve caught a cold”, the Thing replies,
    “Out there upon the landing.”
I turned to look in some surprise,
And there, before my very eyes,
    A little Ghost was standing!

He trembled when he caught my eye,
    And got behind a chair.
“How came you here,” I said, “and why?
I never saw a thing so shy.
    Come out! Don’t shiver there!”

He said “I’d gladly tell you how,
    And also tell you why;
But” (here he gave a little bow)
“You’re in so bad a temper now,
You’d think it all a lie.

“And as to being in a fright,
    Allow me to remark
That Ghosts have just as good a right,
In every way, to fear the light,
As Men to fear the dark.”

“No plea”, said I, “can well excuse
    Such cowardice in you:
For Ghosts can visit when they choose,
Whereas we Humans ca’n’t refuse
    To grant the interview. "

He said “A flutter of alarm
Is not unnatural, is it ?
I really feared you meant some harm:
But, now I see that you are calm,
    Let me explain my visit.

“Houses are classed, I beg to state,
    According to the number
Of Ghosts that they accommodate:
(The Tenant merely counts as weight,
    With Coals and other lumber).

“This is a ‘one-ghost’ house, and you,
    When you arrived last summer,
May have remarked a Spectre who
Was doing all that Ghosts can do
    To welcome the new-comter

“In Villas this is always done--
    However cheaply rented:
For, though of course there’s less of fun
When there is only room for one,
    Ghosts have to be contented.

“That Spectre left you on the Third--
Since then you’ve not been haunted:
For, as he never sent us word,
‘Twas quite by accident we heard
    That any one was wanted.

“A Spectre has first choice, by right,
    In filling up a vacancy;
Then Phantom, Goblin, Elf, and Sprite--
If all these fail them, they invite
The nicest Ghoul that they can see.

“The Spectres said the place was low,
And that you kept bad wine:
So, as a Phantom had to go,
And I was first, of course, you know,
    I couldn’t well decline.”

“No doubt”, said I, “they settled who
    Was fittest to be sent:
Yet still to choose a brat like you,
To haunt a man of forty
    Was no great compliment!”

“I’m not so young, Sir,” he replied,
“As you might think. The fact is,
In caverns by the water-side,
And other places that I’ve tried,
I’ve had a lot of practice:

“But I have never taken yet
    A strict domestic part,
And in my flurry I forget
The Five Good Rules of Etiquette
We have to know by heart.”

My sympathies were warming fast
    Towards the little fellow:
He was so utterly aghast
At having found a Man at last,
And looked so scared and yellow.

“At least”, I said, “I’m glad to find
A Ghost is not a dumb thing!
But pray sit down: you’ll feel inclined
(If, like myself, you have not dined)
To take a snack of something:

“Though, certainly, you don’t appear
A thing to offer food to!
And then I shall be glad to hear--
If you will say them loud and clear--
The Rules that you allude to.”

“Thanks! You shall hear them by and by.
This is a piece of luck!”
“What may I offer you?” said I
“Well, since you are so kind, I’ll try
    A little bit of duck.

“One slice! And may I ask you for
    Another drop of gravy?”
I sat and looked at him in awe,
For certainly I never saw
A thing so white and wavy.

And still he seemed to grow more white,
    More vapoury, and wavier--
Seen in the dim and flickering light,
As he proceeded to recite
    His “Maxims of Behaviour”.

I, too, would love a copy of that Pirates of Penzance!! I think Kevin Kline was just the best Pirate King EVER!!! I'm a huge fan - also love him in SOAPDISH!!! FISH CALLED WANDA. BIG CHILL. Even, so help me, DAVE!

Just sitting here at the keyboard, vocalizing. That first blast of caffeine, and vocalize is all I wanna do -- started years and years ago... while I was a Juilliard student. The first thing in the morning, I'd make coffee, and start vocalizing at 9 AM. So, like a Pavlovian Pooch, when that caffeine jolt hits, all I wanna do is yodle. Free choice??? Hahahahahahaaaaaa!!

I also am grateful for the wonderful films that have so far been released on DVD...but I want more!!!

I would really like to see Universal open up there vaults and release more of their 1950s films...their Audie Murphy westerns, their sci-fi and horror, their Barbara Stanwyck films, and most of all the Esther Williams/George Nader/John Saxon film THE UNGUARDED MOMENT!!

Also the as yet unreleased AIP horror and teen films and Allied Artist's QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE!

IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER
I LOVE MELVIN
THE OPPOSITE SEX
TORCH SONG
SUMMER STOCK
ZIEGFELD FOLLIES
THE PIRATE

I second requests for FLOWER DRUM SONG and PORGY AND BESS.

Bette Davis and Joan Crawford classics:

THE CORN IS GREEN, FEMALE ON THE BEACH, FLAMINGO ROAD, A STOLEN LIFE, THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, THIS WOMAN IS DANGEROUS, THE OLD MAID.

Gosh, there are SO many!

I would like some enterprising company to release Sundays and Cybele.

I would like Fox to release High Time and Bachelor Flat, along with Hangover Square and a proper Valley of the Dolls (available in region 2).

I would like MGM/UA to redo Exodus properly.

I would like Columbia to release all the Randy Scott Budd Boetticher westerns.

I would like Warners to release The Spirit of St. Louis.

When I was a smartass knowit all senior in high school I had an English teacher who spent an entire semester on "Poetry Appreciation" but she was so dry and boring and she analyzed the beauty and joy out of everything she read, the course shpud have been called Poetry Aversion, it was as effective as the treatment Malcolm underwent in "A Clockwork Orange " with similar results...but I digress (how unusual!  ;D)

For a final project we were required to choos e a poem, read it to the class and provide a "translation" of the subtext... I, of course being the aforementioned 17 year old smartass,  used Humpty Dumpty's translation:

That's enough to begin with,' Humpty Dumpty interrupted: `there are plenty of hard words there. "BRILLIG" means four o'clock in the afternoon -- the time when you begin BROILING things for dinner.'

`That'll do very well,' said Alice: and "SLITHY"?'

`Well, "SLITHY" means "lithe and slimy." "Lithe" is the same as "active." You see it's like a portmanteau -- there are two meanings packed up into one word.' "

I remember I got an "A", a reluctant "A", but an "A" all the same  :D

JABBERWOCKY
Lewis Carroll
(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
  The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
  And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
  And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
  The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
  He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
  He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
  Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe.

Floor People and Roof People have come and gone, so I shall work in peace today (and all of this week).  The floor news is good - he thinks he can do it all in one day or, at the worst, a day and a half.  So, very little disruption there.  The whole back half of the roof will be replaced, but that won't bother me since they're ON the roof, not in the house.  The roof could actually start repairs by the end of this week.  And the floor will follow next week.  As soon as all the work is completed, I can guarantee you there will not be one drop of rain for the rest of the year.

All the rest of June Kenney's and Allison Hayes' films...but I won't hold my breath!

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from Fairfax!

I didn't leave Richmond until just after Noon, but after waking up still very sleepy and tired at 8:00, I decided it would be best for me to make the drive up not so sleepy and tired.  Good self-advice, dontcha think?

Great day for a drive.  On the cold side, but nice and sunny.  And the traffic was non-existent too.

The only "bad" part of the drive was when I switched to my usual DC area radio stations after passing Fredericksburg.  I hit the button for WETA, 90.9, just in time to hear the 1:01 NPR news.  Then the news continued...  Ohh...  I forgot that the change to the all-news format started yesterday.  :(  So, instead of listening to some classical music like I was hoping to, I tuned into a pop station for a while, then turned the radio off, and finished my trip up just listening to my car on the highway.  Ah, well...

Before heading to my parents' house, I made a stop to get my hairs cut at my favorite barber shop.  Unfortunately, my cut today wasn't as good as it usually is.  I had to to do some fine tuning when I got to my parents' place.  Luckily, with my hair, after just a day or two of growth, any inconsistencies even out on their own.

...And it appears my parents have raided the collection of CDs I have stashed here.  -I was looking for a few more CDs to burn, and couldn't find them, but after checking some other places... AH!!  There they are!  In any case, it's nice to know my parents' musical tastes are starting to broaden.  ;)

As for DVD releases....

Hmmm...

Yet one more vote for Flower Drum Song.

The only other films I can think of right now are two French ones:  Un Coeur En Hiver, and La Lectrice.   -And they may actually be available on DVD by now - I haven't checked on them in a while.

-Btw, to tie this in with the mention of "Jabberwocky", there is a very amusing sequence in "La Lectrice" where the Reader (The "lectrice") is reading some Lewis Carroll.

Phantasmagorical is used in the theme song for "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" - what a phabulous word!   The DP is quite the creator of homemade MarchMellows, and they ARE yummlicious, great in cocoa.  DVD releases.... any Broadway show that was videotaped for archive purposes, I think, by now should have a chance to make it to DVD.  And from what I've read, there are a lot.

I've seen Anita Page interviewed in quite a few documentaries ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE. Seems like she was just featured in the Irving Thalberg documentary that aired last month on TCM, and in quite a few other ones as well.

Poor old dear in her interviews is always, like Mae West in her later years, wearing a huge honey blonde wig and enough makeup to paint the entire cast of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. But she's a grand old trouper, so I don't mean to sound indelicate or critical - just informative.

Back from errands.  Trying to slog through a new section.  This was a last-minute idea, which I'm hoping is working.  As I started work on what I thought was going to be the next section, it suddenly occurred to me that I needed to do this other thing first.  I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before, and I suppose after I finish that I might discard it, but it seemed to want it, so I'm doing it.  Is that a convoluted enough sentence for everyone?

And furthermore: PHANTASMAGORIA!

Hello All!

There are so many movies I would love to have on DVD including all of the ones already mentioned. (Penzance, Lil Abner, Flower Drum Song, Porgy, etc.) I jumped ahead to post this so I hope no one has mentioned it yet, but one movie I would really love to have on DVD is the 1936 version of Showboat. I enjoy it much more than the one made in the 50's though it is still enjoyable. I really just need to vamp up my movie musical collection, but as I am really just starting I need to have more patience.

Gumnaam is briliant.  From its ripoff of Christie, to its ripoff of Mancini's Charade theme, to the great, great ten minute musical number (or is it longer???) that was partially used in the title sequence of Ghost World.  I may have to watch that again a little later.

I have to eat some tuna pasta salad now.  And cousin Alan's ever-lovin' Dee Dee stopped by this morning with a nice food surprise - this incredible appetizer thing she does on English muffins - some kind of crab, parmesan, onion thing.  I've been shamelessly after her for two or three months to make me a batch, and today I got the batch.  So, I shall have to eat that, too.

We had a windows professionally cleaned and they look beautiful.  What didn’t look so great were the drippings left on our new rug in our bedroom.  Fortunately I was able to reach our carpet cleaner who told me what to do.  Forty-five minutes later the carpet looks much better.  I will have to wait and see if it stays that way.  It still needs to dry a bit and dirt spots on carpets have an odd way of reappearing for some reason.

I think I will go take a walk now.

Allow me to re-post my query from late last night...

Quote from: Rodzinski on Yesterday at 05:40:13pm
Quote
I shall be in San Jose covering the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament from Friday to Monday, then I will drive down south and do the same for the Men's Tournament. I am hoping for WARMTH.

Just what is your line of work, Rodzinski?  Sounds like something I may just be envious of.  (Of course, being unemployed at the moment, I'm a bit envious of any occupation... :))

Both films can be found on Amazon.com or Ebay very easily.

Tell DH that I am in the process ( a 3 year process so far) of tracking down and interviewing the cast members of WILD WOMAN OF WONGO....quite an interesting bunch of people!

Oh yeah! I just scored a WW of W for $6.99 for a brand spanking new DVD on Amazon

I will, he'll be most interested.  Are any of these interviews available for reading now, or are you compiling them for a book?

I am putting them together for a magazine article...I just need to get two or three more interviews down and then I am mostly done!

But if there is anyone in the cast he wants to know about feel free to ask!

GUMNAAN also has some wonderful "Beach Party" type songs and scenes as well.  DR MATTH - it just never stops.  Give it a try.

I don't get to go to New York.  ;(

Yesterday was DR EVIL KURT's birthday - but he moving into a new apartment so he is hard to find - always on the move.

Hey, Rodzinskiii! Of course, I play to the 5th row! Are you coming to the gala event on the 19th, with the HainesHisWay contingent?? or some other star-studded evening? Like, oh, Opening Night?? which I think is Wednesday, March 16, but which my -- er, excuse the expression - Press Rep seems to have announced is Friday, March 18. Oy. Was it a typo?? Sorry to hear about the changes at work, Rodzinski... but still sounds like a decent gig to me!

Looks as if I'll have a slight break from my total unemployment coming up.  Only a four-week temp job (starting 3 weeks from now), but it'll at least give me something to do for awhile, and will allow me to pay a few bills for a little while.  I'll be scoring standardized public school tests, specifically 4th grade writing assessments from Ohio.  Turns out an education degree actually IS good for something other than teaching!

My visit to my brother and his family was quite wonderful!  They had plenty to snack on including some sinfully rich brownie "loaf" my sister-in-law made.  I had a slice or two.. or three.. and some ice cream.. and some Girl Scout Cookies...  and...

;)

However, the best part of the evening was going up to my niece, Alyssa, giving her a big hug, and NOT having her scream and run away from me.  :D  She was in quite a playful mood tonight.  She's apparently discovered how to whisper - although I don't think she's grasped the concept completely.  Yes, she was whispering things to me, but I'm still not sure what she was telling me and if they were actual words.  She was fascinated with the light-up ring I brought for her, and she even thanked me for it.   And kissed me too!

John Michael was his usual rambunctious self, and he filled me in on all the new things he learned at school.  We did have a small disagreement when I wanted to watch "American Idol", and he wanted to keeping watching Toon Disney, but his father stepped in.  It was his bedtime anyway, so...  He was more upset about having to go to bed than having to stop watching TV.

Before he went up to bed, he gave me a hug and asked if I could send him something from New York City.  Of course, he didn't really need to ask since I always bring him something back from New York.

"Goodnight, Uncle Jojo."

I got to see my parents for a bit too.  They're both doing fine, and my father truly seems back to normal.  I made him a little happier tonight by taking back a couple of boxes of magazines I've had sitting in the basement for at least five years at this point.  The recycling program in Northern Virginia does not accept magazines which is part of why I've left them in boxes for a while.... Hmm...  So, I brought them back with me, and in a few I'll get them bundled up and put them out on the curb with the other magazines I bundled over the weekend.

-Just how many back issues of Men's Health do I really need?  If at all?!?!?!

;)

However, I did notice I have a copy of the first issue of Men's Health as well as the first issue of This Old House magazine, and I'll probably keep those just in case.

Any takers?

Boy, are you right about that! Not an idol in THAT bunch at all. Only the Las Vegas showgirl had anything like star quality tonight. Really an off night for the women.

And, I must be on another wavelength or inhabiting another diminsion, but the three judges raved about Mikalah who gave the WORST performance of the night; well, maybe second worst along with Jenay (who was also awful last week). But there was NOTHING praiseworthy in Mikalah's vocals tonight, and they all thought she was terrific. Made me want to have my hearing checked.

Around noon today, der Brucer received two urgent calls.  The first was from his daughter, who desperately needed someone (or two) to ladsit this evening whilst she and her husband went to meet with a prospective client of his...all whilst said husband is dealing with infected eardrums, infected sinuses, and so on and so forth.

It never fails that if there is one emergency, there has to be another.  It, wherever "It" dwells, did not fail us this time at all.  Within minutes of der B agreeing to help his daughter, he received the second urgent call, this time from the Animal Rescue group.  Diane had just been told by the Sussex County SPCA that, if she didn't pick up an ailing mommy dog and her three pups, they would be disposed of this very evening.

This, of course, left Diane with very little time to find someone who could a) take in four dogs who b) have mange problems and c) probably have other health problems, such as worms, kennel cough, etc.  In other words, mommy and the three pups have to be kept separate from the other dogs, and have their health problems attended to...and it all has to happen within the next couple of hours.

Fortunately, we have a basement, so we can keep mommy and the pups separate from the other dogs.  We got to the SPCA pound, met with Diane, and took the foursome back home with us.

Mommy, who we have dubbed "Peggy," is a pit bull mix.  She is a total sweetheart, if a little afraid, but given that she was suddenly being thrown into yet another new environment, I can't blame her.  Her pups, dubbed "Baxter," "Bruno" and "Benedict," are probably somewhere between six and eight weeks old.  They are all brindle-colored, happy if shy, and devoted to their mommy.

We've set up blankets and bowls for them all downstairs, and there's heat down there.

There's no telling how long they'll be with us, probably just for a few days.

And der Brucer is calling me to help out downstairs.  Laters.

Laters.

There is a place in heaven for you two lovely, bighearted  men,  :-* Someday I hope to introduce you to my possum rescuing DH

It seems that Peggy doesn't like being in the caged-in area within our basement.  Some time back, der B bought a freestanding fenced enclosure, about six by ten square and five feet tall, no roof.  Peggy had escaped the enclosure prior to our getting back from ladsitting.  She has no problem with being with her pups, but when we herded everyone back into the cage, she immediately started plotting her escape.  Even with us standing right there, she lept up and started climbing out.

We've decided that, for now, the best solution is to let her have free range in the basement, while her pups stay in the enclosure.  Benedict is very vocally protesting this decision.  But it's the best we can do for the moment.

Finished with The Palm Beach Story - brilliant.  Much more about it later.

PHANTASMAGORIA!

Moving on to The Letter.

Well, the computer restarted properly, then I was promptly booted off by the gal who had to write a paper. Where are the priorities, I ask you?

Anyway, I got caught up in the letterboxed MODESTY BLAISE on Fox. I know I said this about SHANKS earlier, but I was mistaken. MODESTY BLAISE is the weirdest movie ever made. I mean Monica Vitti and Terrence Stamp look good, but you can't understand a word they say (or sing). The whole movie looks great in fact, but it is as if they forgot the story midway through and it turns into utter madness and anticlimax. Joseph Losey was the wrong guy to try a mod spy spoof, as the guy never had a light moment in any film. Good to see Dirk Bogarde having fun though. As a curio, A+, as a coherent film, D.

What am I, Roeper all of a sudden?

I was rather fond of Modesty Blaise when it was originally released.  In fact, I thought it was the berries and must have seen it about twenty times in three weeks.  It hasn't worn the test of time all that well, but parts of it still amuse me greatly - Dirk Bogarde, Clive Revill and Harry Andrews are all wonderful.

PHANTASMAGORIA.

Not quite loving The Letter at this point.  Maybe it will pick up - I'm only twenty minutes in.

A good double feature would be MODESTY BLAISE and FATHOM, wherein Clive Revill gets to be the hammy villain in a mod spy comedy. Both very colorful films.

I'm quite relaxed now.  I'm trying to motivate myself to watch more of The Letter.  But, first I must write the notes, oh, yes, first I must write the notes.

Finished with the notes, have chosen The Word, and now will try to slog through a bit more of the MELODRAMA that is The Letter.  I might be better disposed towards it if the DVD box didn't promise a mystery thriller.

I like The Letter.  It is one of my favourite Bette Davis movies...who over the years has gotten a bit mannered for me.  But this suits her.  I think James Stephenson is great in it.  And isn't the redoubtable Bart Marshall also in it, hobbling about on his wooden leg?  And the delicious Gale Sondergaard.

Good Evening!

WHEW!!!!!

Tonight's recycling "pile" consists of:

3+ years of Gourmet
2+ years of Cooking Light
1 year of Eating Well  (guess I didn't renew)
6 months of Consumer Reports - from 1988!!?!?!?!?!
2 years of Southern Theatre (it's just a quarterly)
3 years of American Theatre (I almost held onto these)
1 year of This Old House
Miscellaneous single issues of miscellaneous magazines
Various and sundried catalogs
Etc., Etc., Etc...

-And the usual newspapers, cardboard, plastics and bottles.

I truly do feel unburdened right now.  And, of course, in the process of sorting through the magazine files, I came across some keepsakes - various theatre programs, issues of the still sorely-missed Show Music, the first three years of the Sondheim Review, and copy of the set of orchestra parts for The Music Man(??).

Come morning, I'll vacuum all the dust that will hopefully have settled by then.  I've already washed my face and arms, and rinsed out my mouth - Ptooey!.  I still have about 30 minutes of straightening up to take care of, but I'll tend to that in the morning.

And speaking of morning...

OH!!...

I forgot to list the 3+ years of Bon Appetit!

And I even managed to dump the big planter that the next door neighbor left on our common porch.  And I mean BIG!  It used to hold a palm tree, but had come to hold just a lot of dirt, water and cigarette butts lately.  No drainage holes either - which, in retrospect, was a good thing.  I somehow maneuvered it to the small set of stairs, and gave it a nice PUSH onto the lawn.  -My exercise for the day!

;)

Well, time to tend to some other internet stuff before heading to bed...

But I'll probably end up checking in "tomorrow" when the new notes go up.

Laters...

Well that's it then, I am organizing a DVD burning!!! Grab your pitchforks and follow me!!!!
Fantasia is the worst film Disney ever made!

It starts out all right, with that Tocatta and Fugue by Bach.  But then the nasty stuff gets going.

The Nutcracker Suite contains nudity!

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is all about witchcraft!

Evolution is preached during The Rite of Spring!

The Pastoral Symphony exposes us to pagan mythology!

The Dance of the Hours is an ode to beastiality!

The Devil himself is celebrated during Night on Bald Mountain!

But the worst is saved for last, with Ave Maria.  Yes, my brothers and sisters, we are reduced to...papism!

Oh, the shame, the shame.

The pups (and Mom) need to be dewormed.

They all need good baths.

They need dipping for that mange problem.

They all need good homes.

I'm falling in love with Benedict.  He's got spunk.

But five dogs on a permanent basis is enough.

Dang.

Everyone downstairs has settled down for the night.

It's been a long time since I've had actual "puppy" puppies in the house.  Bonnie and Buster were nearly adult size when they joined up, and Fletcher has always been larger than life.

More to the point, this is the first time I've had a Mamma around.  Marty and Mikey, both puppies when they joined us, were already separated from their mothers.  Mammas need loving, too!
