I got to bed too late, around 12:30, so I fed the cats and went back to bed for another 90 minutes. Annabelle's getting anxious for patrol, and Thatch and Stella are running about. They're playing quite a lot now, and he's verry curious about her cage. I wonder if he remembers his at all?

I have a visit to Radio City and my barber at 11:00, so I'll leave here between 9:45 and 10. After that, I'm having lunch with my friend Terry Lee at MTI. When I get home, I need to assemble my meds for the ne3xt two weeks.

We had a wonderful time with our high school friend, and one of my bridesmaids, last night. It was a short but sweet visit. We would have invited her to stay with us except Bryan & Kate will be here on Saturday.

A late start for me here, because this morning I headed directly out to the church I substitute at for the funeral service that needed playing.

The service has been played, and I am back.
Now I have to run out for a few things, then I'm home for the rest of the day and hopefully through most of the weekend.

Damn, it's a gorgeous day. A touch cooler than the last couple of days, with lower humidity, and just possibly no precipitation over the next few days. Wouldn't it be nice if that actually came true? I mean, now, wouldn't it?

For the third time in the past two months, the US Postal Service has claimed to deliver an Amazon package that I did not receive. We have a dyslexic or reading-challenged postal worker who keeps leaving mail for 81st Street here. I wonder if my package is at 202 West 81st?

Well, the package was down in the lobby, only the postman who's been writing apartment numbers on the cartons in huge numbers with a black magic marker marked my package 2C, not 3C. I'm glad I found it. It's the only kitty treat Thatch likes, and he and Stella fight over them.

As BK well knows, this newspaper project is a wild ride. And breaks must be taken.
I know I won’t complete everything this weekend, but I’m hitting a few crucial years, confirming a lot of memory accuracy, and, in a few cases, being blown away by memories that are now filed under “corrupted”. It’s a revelation...and a bit of an emotional ride paging through the very papers I was paging through between 55 and 60 years ago.
What a great, invaluable, indispensable site. No two ways about it.

I expect to crash early tonight. Fingers crossed I stay asleep until 7:00 vs 4:30.

We had loads of much needed rain today. I just wish we hadn't been drenched in it while walking ;D

We had a storm yesterday.

A little more than an inch of rain fell at my house. But that was about all.

When I got downtown this morning, I was surprised to see a lot of tree limbs in and around the roads.

It was apparently really bad in other areas of town.

One co-worker told me about how he was driving in his neighborhood. He stopped at a stop sign, but the winds were so heavy that they pushed the car forward even with his foot on the break.

That would be really scary to me.

I had too much work to get done again today.

And I got a lot of it done, so that felt good.

But half the people weren't there today.
-
Meetings were a lot shorter than planned, so it was stop-start a lot of the time.

After work I went over to the theater to usher.

It was a very light crowd. I think a lot of people didn't come because they were without power at their home.

But the Alexander Nevsky was thrilling. I got goosebumps.
-
The audience loved it, too. The applause for it was loud and long.

Pictures at an Exhibition was fun, but there was no comparison.

For an encore, the conductor brought back the singers and led them in the Polovtsian Dances from Borodin's Prince Igor. That was a great deal of fun.

I'm watching an Agnes Varda film called Documenteur. Great line: If I had a name tag, I'd put "Will Return Soon" on it.

Varda's images of L.A. in this movie are very funny. She has a camera fixed on the beach through a screen door. You can see people walking about and leaving the frame. Then there's nothing but magnificent waves crashing ashore. But before long, an enormous bulldozer just drives by leaving you with the hilarious impression that nature is never really left alone.

She's not showing the prettiest neighborhoods in LA, but her images are awash in the most wonderful colors and the way she frames the settings is great.

And then there's the male nudity.

Back from a nice meal and a really fun show at Vitello's. The performer was Christina Bianco, a terrific impressionist with an incredible vocal range. It was very entertaining and she's very funny. She only does two or three songs as "herself" and that's really the only tiny problem I have with her show - she doesn't quite know who she is as "herself" vocally - so there are times when you're not sure if she's her or about to do an impression - it's not hard to fix but who knows if she even thinks it's an issue. But two people there agreed without any prompting from me. She had two guest impressionists - the guy did an incredible Ian McKellan - his others were fine, but that was brilliant. The other guest was someone named Callie Craig and she was VERY funny and really good. If she's in LA I may just try to get her to do a Kritzerland.

I decided to take the freeway home. At the signal, I could see the cars were back up all the way onto Laurel Canyon. Thankfully, there was no one behind me, so I waited until I had a clear move and got the HELL out of that lane and took Riverside home. When I got to Coldwater Canyon, a mile away, I could see the freeway was completely at a standstill - must have been an accident. When I turned onto Woodman I could see it was clear, so the accident had to have been somewhere just after Coldwater and before Woodman.
