Beetlejuice - what did they think they were doing? Most of what this is was designed specifically for the Tonys - not exactly kosher in my book because most of that doesn't happen onstage. I have never heard more false rhymes in one number - I leave it to others.
Ain't Too Proud - if I want to hear The Temptations I'll listen to them - I have come to loathe this kind of theater.
And that it leaves out that before Mike Nichols "discovered" her camera presence for "Silkwood," she'd had. a really nice festival-film success with "... Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean" (a huge flop onstage, but Altman was very proud of the film).
I was happy for Bryan Cranston, but sorry that Paddy Considine lost. I was, however, not sorry to see Jeff Daniels, one of the most unpleasant people I've ever come across in two encounters, lose, and I'n still puzzled that Adam Guettel was nominated for Best Score doe incidental music, which includes Elmer Bernstein's film theme, I believe.
I'm being taken to a preview of Moulin Rouge at the end of June, and I hope I enjoy it. It will be good to see a couple of friends in it.
I didn't know that song was from BE MORE CHILL.....or at least the tune....but it was kind of useless....as were ALL of the numbers NOT from shows.....

I don't think Be More Chill is a show I will ever see - I'm over angst-ridden teenagers - but it would have been good for Chase and the production to have been seen, not fucked over,
Am I right about the $200,000 fee to be paid TO the Tonys show to be on the Tonys?I heard that On TV, but am not finding the amount online.
They've had weeks under 450,000. 200,000 would be a large amount to pay when the only nomination was the score.

I seem to recall similar figures.

It was probably in a Michael Reidel column.
Tootsie - I'd already seen this wretched excuse for a number and it's even worse with all the hyperkinetic lighting, choreography that is completely pointless and dopey, and a fellow who sings through his nose, like most young males in theater today.
The TONY opening#. Terrific!

It was very exciting in Boston, (even though other than the ushers, I was one of three people over 50 in the whole downstairs.). The glamorous couple next to me had bought one of the full champagne bottles, and when we chatted, they were sweet enough to offer me some and very careful not to spill any of it. (Yes, they had extra cups!!!!) I definitely felt like Grandpa talking to them and also chatting at the stage door.
This was my tribute to the pretty amazing use of the pop songs in the show. (Satine's first full number was the Katy Perry song "Firework.")

We are on the train to a Seattle. I wish I had worn something warmer as I am very cold. Otherwise it is kinda of nice vs driving.

That sounds logical - I heard the amount on NY 1 this weekend, and the channel had a Tonys roundtable that included Michael Riedel
Oh, my goodness! Did anyone in NYC hear about this?? Helicopter crash on top of building in midtown Manhattan kills one (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/helicopter-crashes-building-midtown-manhattan-n1015831)?? :(
I too wonder if Be More Chill didn’t want to pay for the segment.

A good friend of Chase's and mine posted this on Facebook:
From what I understand, the Tonys wouldn’t allow Be More Chill to perform “Michael in the Bathroom” (the hit song from Joe Iconis’s nominated score) during the broadcast, saying they didn’t have the airtime for it.
But they DID have the airtime to do a parody of the number, without telling any of the producers or creative team or acknowledging that the song was even from a currently running Broadway show.
As far as I know, it has nothing with the producers not wanting to pay for the time.

I feel the opposite of DR Elmore re: the Tonys. I loved everything to do with James Corden. And hated that he disappeared for a good part of the show. I get that some people want to just see awards. But I also want to be entertained.

You don't find people getting awards and reacting and the production numbers entertaining enough? A little bit of James Corden's Watch me watch me! is enough and the show last night had more than enough Corden. He's a wonderful actor but the Tony Awards are not about him

We just watched the latest version of A STAR IS BORN.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were excellent, but I still think that the best telling of this story is the original with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March.
Well, tonight is the WCPA Volunteer Appreciation dinner and I'm off to be appreciated. ;)
Be back later!
Even in the days like late 1970s, when Alexander Cohen wanted to plug his own show "I Remember Mama" with Liv Ullmann, and Maureen Silliman in the other title role of "I" - composed by Richard Rodgers -
The evening's lineup got twisted and turned and pulled to include a Richard Rodgers tribute, ending with his new show Alexander Cohen's production of "I remember Mama" for almost 4 minutes.
Were you well appreciated tonight?

I also remember a magnificent Tony medley when Jule Style, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cy Coleman played songs from upcoming musicals. Styne's was from Treasure Island and Lloyd Webber from Song and Dance. Can't remember what Coleman played.
They also announced their 2019/2020 season. The two shows that I'm most interested in (and I know not everyone will be ;) ) are The Naked Magicians (I guess they're really naked!), and the stage musical version of An American in Paris.

Starring Anthony Hudson – the human vessel for Portland’s premiere drag clown Carla Rossi – LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY utilizes song, dance, drag, and video to put a queer spin on the ancestral tradition of storytelling. Asking what it means for a mixed-race person to experience their heritage through white normative culture, Anthony draws from a songbook stretching across Disney’s “Pocahontas” to Cher’s “Half-Breed,” with musical accompaniment by Maria Choban and dance support by pin-up troupe The Dolly Pops . Anthony recounts his favorite childhood movie – the filmed production of Mary Martin’s “Peter Pan” – while seeking to understand his own racial self-identification and where he as a half-white & half-Indigenous person holds accountability and consequence. Not just autobiography, LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY is a coming-of-age story that's more than just cowboys versus Indians.
Did you have any disasters during the move, any injuries?
