Well, you've read the notes, you've worn your Maidenform Bra whilst reading the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home in their Maidenform Bras.

I wasn't really E & T yesterday.  My DSL has been out all day.  I'm doing this through a dial-up.  My line was actually up for a few minutes and both times I wrote a post and before I was finished the line was dead again.  Pity they were vaguely witty posts.

Ah well, it make take the better part of next week to get this problem straightened out, so my participation may be spotty over the next few days or so.  Pity to miss the fun...

And speaking of fun, BK, are blondes still having more fun?

Unfortunately, I have no idea about that TV show, DR VIXMON. It seems not to be a regular show and we have occasionally, irregularly, that kind program here, in which reported that foreigners enjoy their life with a family getting confused with their life-stylle, Japanese social and food customs, during their stay in Japan.  Please let me know at least English subtitle for that, if you have another chance to see it. It’ll be very helpful for my searching for it.

No favourite giant monster movies at all.  Favourite Giant movie though is "The Princess Bride".

Food from South of the Border - I guess that means I shall eat a Tasmanian apple today. Cadbury's chocolate seems quite a likely possibility too.

Chicken soft tacos from Taco Bell....sometimes on sale for 88 cents.  MMMMMM.......

Hmmmmmmmm......giant grasshoppers in BEGINNING OF THE END, to be sure, along with the giant ants in THEM!

I like the 50 Foot Woman of course, but she isn't too scary, except to Harry.

I think my favorite is GODZILLA vs. KING GUIDORAH: The Battle for Earth, I can't find my DVD right now so the title may be wrong!

My absolute favorite giant monster though is THE IRON GIANT!

The actual title (I found the DVD) is:

GODZILLA & MOTHRA: The Battle for Earth.  Of course of all monsters, Mothra has the BEST theme song!

Didn't Samantha Eggar play the Barbara Stanwyck role in a made for tv remake of DOUBLE INDEMNITY?

Good morning, all!  Last night I watched again the last episode of DEADWOOD in prep for the premiere tomorrow night.  The episode ended last night with "Green Grow the Lilacs" played beautifully on an out-of-tune piano (very Alban Berg and WOZZECK!), so I'm listening to the Chad Mitchell Trio singing it this morning:

Green grow the lilacs all covered with dew
Green grow the lilacs and green is their hue
Each lilac of green turns to one that is blue
Love, like the lilacs, can change colors too

The episode also featured one of my favorite English folktunes, "Lulliberlero," which is Uncle Toby's favorite in TRISTRAM SHANDY, when the regiment arrived.

So, before I hit B&N for a few book sales, I'll add to the giant list these:
JACK THE GIANT KILLER
MICKEY AND THE BEANSTALK
ULYSSES (Kirk Douglas)

I like any of the Japanese horror films for there inane English dubbing and lame special effects that never even fooled me as a child. I always thought they were a person in a Halloween costume stepping on toy buildings. But they were fun to watch. One of my faorites was Godzilla vs King Kong (Which may have been the first oneI ever saw). One thing that always stucj out in my mind were Japenese actors in Blackface playing island natives.

Yes. With Richard Crenna and Lee J Cobb.

And what was the name of the movie where she was pregnant and carried the baby on the outside of her body and when she gave birth she licked the blood off the baby? Never saw the movie but there is a still from the licking I have seen many times.

Sung to the Tune of Santa Clause is Coming to Town (This is done off the cuff so excuse the bad lyrics)

You better watch out
You will better cry
You bet you will shout
I'm telling you why
Godzilla is coming to town

He's breathing his fire
He's buring down the town
He's fighting Mothra
And evening stepping On clowns
Godzilla is coming to town

He sees you when he's stepping on you
He knows if there's an army
He knows if there a bomb for him
So stop being so smary
Cause he's Gozilla for goodness sakes

You better watch out
You will better cry
You bet you will shout
I'm telling you why
Godzilla is coming to town

Today's topic reminded me of the song

Chop Suey

Chop suey, chop suey!

Living here is very much like chop suey.

Hula hoops and nuclear war,

Doctor Salk and Zsa Zsa Gabor,

Bobby Darin, Sandra Dee, and Dewey,

Chop suey, --Chop suey!--

Stars are drifting overhead,

Birds and worms have gone to bed.

Men work late in laboratories,

Others read detective stories.

Some are roaming 'round the country,

Others sit beneath just one tree.

Tonight on TV's Late, Late Show

You can look at Clara Bow! --Who?--

Chop suey, chop suey!

Good and bad, intelligent, mad, and screwy.

Violins and trumpets and drums,

Take it all the way that it comes,

Sad and funny, sour and honey dewy,

Chop suey!

Ballpoint pens and filter tips,

Lipsticks and potato chips.

In the dampest kind of heat wave

You can give your hair a neat wave.

Hear that lovely La Paloma,

Lullaby by Perry Como.

Dreaming in my Maid'nform bra,

Dreamed I danced the Cha-Cha-Cha.

Chop suey, chop suey!

Mixed with all the hokum and bally hooey.

Something real and glowing grand.

Sheds a light all over the land.

Boston, Austin, Wichita, and St. Louey,

Chop suey.

Chop suey, chop suey!

Chop suey, chop suey!

I had to share the first paragraph of this NY Times review of a new tv show with Faye Dunaway. All I can say is how sad.

"The Starlet," a WB reality show that applies the "American Idol" formula to would-be Hollywood actresses, begins with a cautionary face: the masklike visage of Faye Dunaway, eyes pulled so tight and jaw so taut that she can show expression only through her voice. Luckily, it is still a fine instrument. When Ms. Dunaway eliminates a contestant in the climactic "You're fired" moment of each episode, she lets the timbre fall into a smoky, menacing whisper. "Don't call us," she says. "We'll call you."

TARANTULA! and THEM! are my absolute two favorite giant monster flicks. I never tire of either one, and I think I prefer TARANTULA! more because of the wonderful Leo G. Carroll. His make-up in the film used to scare the daylights out of me when I watched the movie as a kid. It's unsettling to see it even now.

Hitting a right note
New cantor energizes temple with music.
By Greg Mellen
Staff writer

Thursday, March 03, 2005 - LONG BEACH — When Rabbi Ilana Grinblat was searching for a new cantor at Temple Beth Shalom, she was determined to find someone who would rock the house.

In picking Roni Kripper, a young Uruguayan son of a rabbi, she was thinking not only about modernizing services and appealing to younger members of the temple, but getting back to some sense of celebration that marked Jewish services in ancient times.

The outcome has been Shul House Rock, a band that performs at Friday night Shabbat services once a month at the temple, 3635 Elm Ave.
...
With 10 to 12 band members generally showing up, plus occasional special guests, the group usually fills the bimah, or pulpit area, of the sanctuary where it plays. And the sound, often accompanied by percussion from shakers and tambourines supplied to audience members, fills the room.

Front and center, there's Dr. Joel Kizner, an obstetrician, on banjo and guitar. He is famous for leaving a service once to deliver a baby and returning in time to finish the set.
...

The band has brought back the beat, and a little backbeat, to the Shabbat.

"We have a blend of music styles," said Kripper, who plays piano, guitar and percussion.

In any performance, it's not uncommon to have blends of klezmer, which Kripper describes as a kind of Jewish jazz, bossa nova, tango, country and other forms of music. The band has drummers, piano, banjo, mandolin, flute, cello, bass and several guitars. And most performances have some sort of theme.

In February, for example, the group had a Valentine's theme and a couple of love songs added to the service.

"The main idea is to create a service where everyone could feel they participate," Kripper said.

Although the band's name is a play on words, Kripper said, the music is serious and comes straight from liturgy, meaning it's a good bet you won't be hearing Shul House burst out with "My Shaloma' anytime soon.

"This is not a concert," Kripper said of the services, which conform to traditional format with the music and beat as an overlay.

"I've been to other services where people are just listening," Kripper said. "For us, if people are not singing, it's not working. If it sounds good, and people are singing and dancing, that's a good service."

Although using instruments to complement the chanting and singing of the cantor is a popular trend, homegrown bands such as Shul House Rock are a rarity. Rarer still in a conservative synagogue such as Temple Beth Shalom. In Hollywood, the reform Temple Israel has a similar all-congregant band, but most temples hire bands to perform at special functions.

... it took Kripper to bring it all together.
"He really took it and ran with it," Grinblat said. "I think it's really energized the whole community just with the level of joy, excitement and energy."

And it has spread.

"Every service we have new people coming," Kripper said. "We're attracting people who are not members of the temple. Every week there are new faces."

...
Although bringing in Kripper and his merry band may have seemed radical, it actually has old roots.

In ancient times, spontaneous instrumental music, accompanied by singing and dancing, was an integral part of important occasions for the Jews according to the Talmud and Bible. When the Kingdom of Israel was created, music and instrumental accompaniment became highly developed in the temple.

However, around the year 70, after the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem by the Romans, the music was silenced as an act of mourning, although many of the chants survived.

Grinblat said there is a feeling that 2000 years of mourning is enough. And while the religion still has plenty of symbols that keep that sensibility alive, she sees Shul House Rock as an important part of bringing back joy to the temple and invigorating the youth.

"One goal is to attract younger people," Kripper said. "That's always a challenge, not just for Jews but all religions."

But there has been a surprising twist.
"We feared how the older people would react, but they love it," Kripper said. "They feel like we're using Jewish tradition, and they feel like the temple is coming alive."

So, if anyone sees Jay on the Blue Line, tambourine in hand, we know where he's heading.

The puerile stunt, a parody of Jackson's Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction' of 2004, involved Smith pulling down her dress to reveal both her breasts, each of which sported the MTV logo. We just hope MTV wasn't crass enough to pay her to use her over-ample chest as a billboard.

Faye Dunaway was on Ellen yesterday and didn't look too weird (relatively speaking).  There's a long article about her and the show in this morning's Oregonian.  One LOL moment:  she talks about not wanting to be called a "starlet" because that connotes someone who isn't willing to put in the "intense work it takes to win an Oscar."  Thanks for that, Faye.

Can some of you in-the-know film people tell me something:  are Caleb and Chloe Deschanel father and daughter?  And is Jack Nicholson related to AIP's James Nicholson?  Just wondering....

good morning all

Well, I am in eburg after an impromptu trip over the mountains.  My mother, who was making the trek from Eugene to Ellensburg, called me and said she was just simply too tired to make the entire 8-9 hour drive.  She asked if I'd be willing to drive her the rest of the way from tacoma, then drive her back this evening.  As anyone who's ever had a parent knows, they "ask" only as a formality, especially when said parents are currently helping you out with bills...so off I went over the pass.

Moment I must share -
My father just returned with a bouquet of tulips for my mother, which he wanted to put into a vase.  He looked around in vain for a pair of scissors to trim then ends, but no luck.  Then I saw a look of inspiration cross his face and he disappeared into his workshop.  A minute later I heard the sound of the table saw going...a minute after that he returned, smiling triumphantly, with a bunch of very neatly cut flowers.

I mentioned a great CD called Vuelta by someone named Richard Shindell here a few weeks ago.  Here's a very insightful review:

If you like folky pop with very intelligent lyric writing, I highly recommend this guy.  I'm arranging "The Island" from this CD for my big choral group.

I like the first Godzilla movie.  When my sister and I were much younger (I must have been 7 or 8 years old...my sister's a couple of years older), "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster" was supposted to play at the local movie house.  We were excited about seeing this, but then it never came.  We were both very sad. :'( I still have never seen this movie.

Tonight we will not be dining on frijoles.  Tonight der B and I will be enjoying the feast over at Cafe Zeus, which is reopening for the season.  There will be music, fine food and wine, and much cause for celebration.

I do enjoy good frijoles, of course, but that's not what Charles and company create in their kitchen.

Elsewhere, der B and I have found a place locally that might have corn tortillas!  About half-way between Rehoboth and Georgetown is a restaurant/mercado that has almost all of it's signage in Spanish, except for a line that proudly and joyfully announces "English Spoken."  We're going to have to check it out sometime soon.  Flour tortillas have their place, but not with tacos or enchiladas, and certainly not as a munchy for snacking.

Did anyone else gasp in horror at the news of that horrible chimp attack yesterday (no joke).  The evening news mentioned the part about the poor man's face being chewed off (bad enough), but they didn't mention the even more horrific things that happened to him, which I read in this morning's paper.

Well, I saw it before breakfast, but opted to post the pictures from Jersey and the story about Shul House Rock instead.

But for ghouls amounst us here are two stories:

LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-chimp5mar05,0,4930133.story?coll=la-home-headlines) which mentions buttocks,
and  Press Telegram  (http://www.presstelegram.com/Stories/0,1413,204~21474~2745265,00.html) which mentions testicles.

Enjoy

DerBrucer-love the story of the 1st doggie door experience.  Does Fletcher fit through the door?

We had a doggie door for our little poodles when I was young but Keith and I have never put one in for the big dogs.

As a kid who was very small I could easily go through the doggie door when I forgot my key.  After we were married Keith and I stopped by the house and no one was home yet so I did my usual quick slide through the door.  To my surprise I had hips I never knew I had and almost didn’t make it into the house.  There were a few scary moments when I was stuck half way through the door.

Speaking of looking weird, I watched LESS THAN PERFECT (an ABC sitcom) last night, and Joan Rivers was the guest star.

Now, I know she's had tons of plastic surgery, but honestly on her TV GUIDE channel fashion shows, she's either got flattering lighting or something, but I've thought her face looked pulled and very tight but not too bizarre.

Last night in high definition of LESS THAN PERFECT, she looked embalmed! It was the most unpleasant viewing of a show I've had in awhile because she just looked like the walking dead, too grotesque to even qualify for Tod Browning's FREAKS. Oh, it was ghastly!

Mikey had already settled down at the end of the couch before I took my position.  Bonnie and Buster joined me in very quick order (Bonnie has the red collar).

Then Fletcher decided to join us.  He never worries about whether there's room on the couch for him.  He just climbed aboard, circled around, and made himself comfortable.  That meant he circled around and made himself comfortable right on top of me.  Buster got squeezed aside.

Fortunately Fletcher didn't poot immediately after settling down this time.

Poot?  You don't recognize the word "poot"?  That's the sound he makes when a little bit of gas escapes his tail end.  It's more polite than a fart, at least audibly, but can be a killer if it's aimed in your direction.

It is beautiful outside here today, so naturally I spent a 2 1/2 hour afternoon inside watching COLD MOUNTAIN. I had myself a great good cry and enjoyed the film thoroughly. I'm not sure Nicole Kidman and Jude Law, gorgeous as they both are, were the right actors to play Civil War North Carolinans, but one gets swept up in the story and the characters and their varying accents seem to just not matter all that much. No surprise that Renee Zelwegger won the supporting Oscar for this as she steals every scene she's in.

And what an amazing ensemble. Before I watched it, I had no idea that Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Tom Aldredge, Giovanni Ribisi, Kathy Baker, and other well known character actors were even in this movie.

What's nice about the word "poot" is that you can substitute it for so many other words, in so many situations.

"Here's pooting at you, kid."

I go to the hills when my heart is lonely.
I know I will hear what I've heard before.
My heart will be blessed with the sound of pooting,
And I'll poot once more.

I'm back from the memorabilia show.  I would say that in terms of attendance it was/is an unmitigated disaster.  Not a mitigated disaster, mind you, no, an unmitigated disaster.  I don't think there were more than thirty or forty people there at any given time, maybe not even that many.  Most celebrities were just sitting there twiddling their thumbs.  I said hello to Gary Lockwood, but I'm not sure he remembered me, which is quite different from the last time I saw him fifteen years ago.  He looks pretty bad - very heavy.  I spent most of my time with Miss Joanie Sommers, who looked well, and we had much fun catching up.  She may even end up doing a duet with Mr. Haines.   I also spent quite a bit of time catching up with the lovely Donna Baccala, whom I haven't seen since she starred in my musical Start at the Top way back in '72.  She remembered me instantly and not only that, she immediately launched into the title song.  She looks swell (no work done) and we're going to have lunch soon.  For those who don't know her, she starred in The Dunwich Horror, and lots of TV, as well as playing Tommy's mother in Tommy in its original stage incarnation at the Aquarius Theater in LA.  She also played in the Broadway comedy, The Impossible Years.  Part two in a moment.

It's happened again...

I was taking laundry up and down the stairs to the basement, and had left the door open at the bottom open, not thinking much about it.

Another armload of laundry to go down, and there on the stairs making their way up were the pups.  It's a good thing I looked down before taking a step!  So everyone is upstairs again.

We were worried a bit about Benedick earlier, because he wasn't wanting to eat.  Yesterday, Baxter was the non-eater.  But they're both showing an acceptable amount of energy, so I guess we can turn the worries down a notch or two.

I said hello to Miss June Wilkinson and sent her Pogue's wishes.  I spent some time with Allan Hunt, who also launched into the title song from Start at the Top - BOTH versions (the song got rewritten when we did a third production).  He happened to have seen both versions.  It was nice to see him again.  Oh, and would you like to know the other two contenders for Donna's role in my show?  Judy Kaye and Udana Power.  Isn't that funny?  Sitting on either side of Joanie were Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon and Tommy Sands.  Sitting across from Joanie was Mr. Shelley Berman.  Since no one was even stopping at his table, I spoke to him, told him he was in Kritzer Time, and bought one of his CDs.  I also met the original Gidget - the person the character was based on.  She was a complete delight and I bought her book.  The most shocking thing was that Miss Samantha Eggar's table was empty for most of the three plus hours I was there.  She was directly across from Donna, and I ended up having a nice chat with her.  Others in attendance: Mr. Christopher Atkins, who frankly skeeves me - selling nude photos for forty bucks a pop - I think you can imagine who HIS crowd was.  Miss Jayne Meadows, looking embalmed.  Miss Beverly Garland who, I must say, still looks incredible - stunning really.  Mr. Trini Lopez (strange looking), H.M. Wynant, Jack Riley (I had a nice chat with him, too - he was in the Do I Hear a Waltz production that I recorded), Margaret O'Brien, Michael "Mod Squad" Cole (looking none too happy about the turnout) and quite a few others.

As for the auditions...

This morning was interesting.  Interesting in a bad sense.  The "energy" in the room was just very weird.  Very anxious.  Also a bit annoying.  After the first two groups of people, I was actually feeling a bit pissed off.  People weren't following directions.  People were try to break the rules.  People were taking their own sweet time walking up onto the stage.  *There was one young woman who had a legitimate excuse for walking slowly - one of her legs was in a cast - dancing accident.  -But she had a great audition - good singer.  In any case...

They had to take a five minute break after the first two groups to take care of some business with the companies, and that gave me a chance to walk around and get some of "it" out of my system.  I hate stupidity!  And I really hate "active" ignorance.

During the lunch break, I gave my usual "Lunch With Jose" workshop.  It's basically just a very informal Q&A session with me about auditions in general - preparation, song selection, etc.  Well...

I always start each session stating that if you happen to be the type of person who "easily" takes advice, AND you have not auditioned yet, it may be better for you to leave the room just in case you might hear something you don't want to hear.  Well...

There was one young woman who had this worried look on her face the whole time.  I think it was just her nerves in general.  But each time I would state one on my opinions, the look on her face would get more serious and anxious.  She would look at her music, and then look even more worried.  Thankfully, she eventually left the room - she just got up and walked out.  Good for her.  *And, when she did come into the audition room, she did a great job.  Whew!

Then there was another young woman who questioned the song she had chosen.  A song I had just mentioned that had been sort of overdone lately.  One that you should definitely be sure that you perform well since the originator of the song set such a definitive version of the song.  I told her that if she really does it well, then she should go ahead and sing it.  By the time she came in late in the afternoon and sat down next to me at the piano, she had changed her song.  Whew!  *Unfortunately, I think she changed it to a not so good song.  -And from the way she presented that song, I doubt she would have done a good job on the other one.

-Yes, I'm being vague about the original song.  For now...

The first group put me in such a good mood!  Everyone was well-prepared.  Their music was in order.  They had good copies.  They did material that suited them well.  They generally picked good songs.  And they also seemed to be having fun!  -Which is very important.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty good too, but after the morning session, I really needed that first group after lunch.  I even "yelled" out a Thank You to them after the last person in the group finished.  Even gave them a golf clap.

It is definitely a dog’s life in your house.

You don't know the half of it! Fletcher thinks those large plastic bins we keep throwing things into are his play boxes -easy in/easy out (he loves crunching egg shells). Naturally the by late afternoon the floor looks like the city dump!

Remember those listless puppies in the basement? As previously elated, Woody went downstairs to do laundry, left the door open, and then:

Benny cresting the top of 15 steps!

Bonnie watching Baxter struggle below.

Since then Mom and the pups have explored the entire house. Peggy has learned to use the doggie door - went outside and did her business there. Benedick got through the doggie door after a lot of struggling; Baxter just stuck his nose through and watched.

Peggy started barking like all get out - staring into the woods: nothing there (I saw). A few minutes later, more barking, and our neighborly deer tribe strolled through the lot next door.

The pups settled in on top of Fletcher's pillow in the living room while Peggy took a lie-down in Fletcher's crate in the dining room.

The regular dogs seem to be accepting integration as inevitable.

As for best and worst...

There was no one that really impressed me.  There were a couple of really good men and women, but truly just a couple - two each, maybe three.

However, I do know the worst one... Which turned into more of a funny situation for me at least.  The young woman went a bit off-key at the end of her piece, but she did it with conviction!  I ended up with a case of the giggles, and had to be very careful not to let my giggles escape my body.  And she was a little too young for the song - it was a Sondheim piece - which added a another level of "funny" to her audition.  At least to me.

;)

There were a few other klunkers, but those were mainly due to lack of proper preparation and rehearsal.

As for the Greatest Hits of this conference...

Hands down, "Gimme, Gimme" and "Not for the Likes of Me" from Thoroughly Modern Millie.  They weren't overdone per se, but they popped up a few times throughout each day.

For the gentlemen, "The Old Red Hills Of Home" - is that the proper title? - from Parade.  But, I'd say that I only played it about four or five times.

OH!  "Make Them Hear You" also got sung a couple of times yesterday.  Unfortunately, none of the gentlemen really did the song justice.

There were only three women who sang "Vanilla Ice Cream", and a few "You Can Always Count On Me" as well as "Always True To You In My Own Fashion".

But, all in all, everything seemed pretty well spaced out.

There was not one "Soliloquy", not one "Anthem", and not one "Goodbye, Old Girl" - which was very surprising.

And only one "All That Jazz".  Whew!  But a couple of "When You're Good To Mama's".

I just finished watching The 24th Day starring BK's landlord James Marsden. It is basically an one set two character play that occasionally steps outside the one room set. Mr. Marsden and Jason Speakman the other jobs do fine work, but neither are in my opinion top notch actors that might have elevate the performance beyond the superficiality of their characters as they were written.

Now I am onto Latter Days. I have high hopes for this film as  I have heard good things about it

Remember Baxter - the pup with no appetite; the one who would not eat Puppy Kibble, even after I softened it in warm water; who turned his nose up at Woody's specially scrambled eggs; who noshed just a bit on the boiled white rice with minced chicken breast - well he was just in the kitchen chowing down on the regular dogs' grown-up kibble!

The most shocking thing was that Miss Samantha Eggar's table was empty for most of the three plus hours I was there.

I do find that shocking.  If I ever went to one of these shows, she would be someone I would want to spend time with.  She was perfect in WALK DON’T RUN.

Well I finished watching Latter Days. A cut above gay themed pictures I have seen. Nice supporting turns by Jackie Bissett and Mary Kay Place. The main actors I have never seen before although I think one of the actresses was on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I enjoyed it for the story and the performances. I would recommend it over The 24th Day which I saw earlier in the day.

Well, I had my movie night tonight with my friend John. We did indeed watch THE VILLAGE. A couple of fairly suspenseful jumps in a film that was about twice as long as it should have been to support the slim story.

But what an astonishing cast he rounded up for this film! I really had no idea so many wonderful actors had taken part in this. I guess because his films have been such hits, they WANTED to be a part of what probably seemed like a sure thing (and it did do well, but not nearly as well as SIGNS or THE SIXTH SENSE did.)

Before I left for the movie night, I watched THE HOLLOW. This latest batch of hercule Poirot BBC films are so much better produced and mastered for DVD than the previous ones. Of course, I suspect A&E just ported over the videotape masters on the older ones, not going to added expense of preparing new masters for the DVDs. These new ones have wonderful sharpness and the sound is surround rather than mono.

How about one of the songs you recorded with Joanie for her album in 1990?  (Your first vocal album)

Song Listings:

1. I Won't Dance
2. The Way You Look Tonight
3. The Folks Who Live on the Hill
4. Make Believe/Why Do I Love You
5. Bill
6. All The Things You Are
7. They Didn't Believe Me
8. Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man
9. Long Ago and Far Away
10. Yesterdays
11. A Fine Romance

Or how about one of the songs you mention in what you said about her?

I was lucky enough to produce Joanie’s last new album, back in 1990 or so, for Bay Cities. She’s really wonderful, and these Warner Bros. albums from the 60s are great. I fell in love with her voice the second I heard her first big hit song, Johnny Get Angry. I ran out and bought the 45 of it and played it until it would play no more. I still love that song, as politically incorrect as it may be. The gentleman who wrote it, Mr. Sherman Edwards, would go on to write the classic Broadway musical, 1776. If you haven’t heard Joanie, give the Johnny Get Angry album a try – it’s just delightful, and she does many standards on it, too, like A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and Little Girl Blue. She also does a wonderful rendition of One Boy from Bye, Bye Birdie, and a terrific vocal of the theme from A Summer Place.

I don't think I've mentioned this, but what about the vocal version of Dave Brubeck's "Take Five?"  Carmen McRae recorded it as a solo, but Tom Michael (http://www.lmlmusic.com/artists/mic_recordings.htm) recorded it as a duet with Beckie Menzie that's just wonderful!  I think the style might be right up Guy Haine's alley...in my humble opinion (IMHO, in Internet lingo).
