Well, you've read the notes, you're in fine fettle having read the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home (in fine fettle or, at the very least, in some kind of fettle).
-
Media check...
DVD - empty at the moment, but thinking it's time to throw The First Nudie Musical in soon
VCR - Dr. Strangelove
CD - A Little Night Music OBC
-
And the word of the day is: PLATITUDINOUS!
-
No word of the day?
CD: I have been listening to the Nathan Lane expansion of FROGS. Very amusing. Mr. Sondheim is good form. Also a BK collection of Sondheim numbers culled from various BK-produced Sondheim albums. And Billy Barnes' Divas which features, among others, A Little Lift.
DVD/VIDEO: My Granfather's home movies that my brother transferred to video some time ago...and will probably dive into the third volume of SCTV sometime this weekend.
ON THE NIGHTSTAND: An historical book called RAKES, which is profiles of famous mad, bad, and dangerous-to-know British Rakes from Charles II's time to Victorian times.
-
BK, let me know when the Mission Hills paperback show is. I may join you there. It's like the old Glendale Book Fairs used to be.
-
Paperback show is Sunday - let's GO! I'm gonna head up there around ten or ten-thirty.
-
PLATITUDINOUS! Or, at the very least, PLATYPUS!
Nobody here but us chickens.
-
I've never seen such a display of WUSSBURGERISM as we've been having for the last week.
-
Well, the Wall Man is coming between seven-thirty and eight, so perhaps I'll toddle off to the bedroom environment to get some needed beauty sleep.
-
DR JOEY - I am seeing FROZEN this weekend as well....what day are you going? It is a disturbing play, but I am friends of two of the three performers. LeBron and Dianne are super - Martha I can take or leave her....she gets on my last nerve....
And don't forget that the Phoenix does offer a student discount so be sure to ask for it when you get your ticket.
-
The Wall Man. I think that was a Lon Chaney Jr movie wasn't it?
-
FRIDAY MEDIA CHECK
DVD - Strangers When We Meet. I liked this movie more than I remembered. Beautiful house, I wonder if it did roll down the hill this year with all the rain? Beautiful score. And we got to see Romanoff's and The Albatross. AND Kim Novak. I am not much of a Kirk Douglas fan, especially when he is supposed to be a ladies man - but Barbara Rush and Ernie Kovacs were also terrific!
CD - The Langley Schools Project, Dueling Divas courtesy DRGEORGE.
VHS - Cool & Lam a 1958 pilot film for a series that never was produced, and no wonder.
-
Who would want coarse fettle?

My Christmas Roses in my tiny garden: I wonder why it’s called Christmas Rose…they not bloom in Christmas time or they don't belong the rose family...
-
I watched a good antiwar film “Johnny Got His Gun” this afternoon, this is the first time to see it and I’m still overpowered with the impact of the original technique to express the war tragedy and with its own power. And Johnny’s voice will never go away from my ears and my mind. This my feeling is quite similar to the one which I had when I watched “All Quiet On The Western Front”.
-
Good morning, all! Another B&N day, and I may even pick up the bundle of books waiting for me there. I've heard a rumor we have more snow on the way, but I make no promises, DR Danise, about next weekend.
DRHisaka, I've always wanted to see JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN; the novel it's based on had quite an emotional kick when I read it in the mid-1970s.
TOD:
DVD: Wonderfalls
CD: Haines His Way
Jeepers Creepers
Ziegfeld Follies of 1936
VCR: Babes in Toyland (Drew Barrymore)

You always up this early Elmore?
I just finished approving pages for tomorrow's exciting edition of the Pac-10 Tournament Program. The games today were not bad, but by far the most exciting moment was at halftime, when a guy made a shot from halfcourt to win a new Pontiac. I mean, the crowd just went NUTS! It was crazy.
Rodzinski fans can see plenty of me on TV during Pac-10 tournament action, as I am plainly in view at the press table when one team has the ball. Look up near the basket at the table, where I sit behind the very laptop on which I type these words. I wonder when the agents will start calling... My mother was excited anyway.
JRand-email me your mailin' address and I'll get you that CD, which is dang good.
-
Alright, Sleep is demanding my attention. Night!
-
I never saw the movie version of JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN (is there only one with Timothy Bottoms as Joe?) but I did see the Circle Rep production starring Jeff Daniels in 1982. It was a one man show and it was and is still one of the finest pieces I have ever seen in the theatre. I could barely move out of the theatre after the performance. I don't usually write fan letters but I wrote a letter to Mr. Daniels about the power of the piece and his performance.
Mr. Moore and I and Hisaka and sometimes Michael Shayne are usually the early morning denizens on the east coast.
Right now I'm listening to BBC Radio Scotland. What a wonderful dialect. It's one I could not do well in my performing days (perhaps it's my Irish background) but I do love to listen to the Scots speak.
I have misplaced my CD copy of Damn Yankees. When I got the CD I passed my tape copy on to a friend and now I can't find any copy of DY in the apartment. Anthony is auditioning for the show next week and he wanted to listen to it again but I can't find it. How odd for me who has everything alphabetized and categorized. I can't find it anywhere. Oh, well. I may have to go to the library and borrow a copy or even, g*d forbid to the store and purchase a copy! At least I have my copy (copies) of Forum, for which he is also auditioning (he has a callback tomorrow for Hysterium). I have a Bay Cities copy of Forum produced by You Know Who.
Don't know what else I will listen to during the day, other than the last part of the Harold Arlen bio on BBC Radio 2. Perhaps Sweet Charity and some other CDs which are in my desk.
We have a family party tomorrow afternoon in Brooklyn so we won't watch anything and I'm going to the theatre on Sunday afternoon, Moonlight and Magnolias, a play about the writing of Gone With the Wind.
I'm slowly working my way back up to tolerance on the exercise bike. I'm up to 45 minutes a day again. During the holidays I stopped exercising regularly because we were so busy and also on LI for much of it. I'm now happy to report that I have been diligently exercising every day for the past two weeks and will hit one hour on the bike sometime this weekend. Just pop a tape in the VCR and I will ride like the wind.
7:30. I need to wash my oatmeal bowl and get to work. Robert Wood Johnson is calling. I'll be back in and out during the day.
-
And during that long patch of verbosity I became the only person here. Oh, well. It's not PLATITUDINOUS but it's real.
-
Yes I am usually up this time in the AM usually Monday through Friday. I get ready to go to work and I like to drop and read. Sometimes I don't have anything to post until later in the day.
BTW Shayne is the last name not the first.
Call me Michael, Mike, Mikey (I don't hate everything) or Mickey
-
Thanks Jose for the links. I will look at them after work today.
-
Haven't decided what I will watch on DVD or listen today. I have been basically letting my IPod do shuffle play.
-
Hello Larry!
Would you like to do Brunch on Saturday or Sunday during the Penny O Weekend?
-
You always up this early Elmore?
DRRodzinski, on Fridays and Saturdays I'm always out of bed by 6:30 am; it takes me over an hour and a half to prepare for Barnes & Noble.
I've just walked back from the corner market; it's snowing large fluffy clumps of snow, which is quite lovely. I've had my yogurt and coffee, and I'm waiting for a couple of eggs to boil (lunch).
DRBen, tell Anthony I send him positive vibes on landing an audition.
-
Hey all. I am very sick today! :(
For those who were asking about WICKEDLY PERFECT (DR Stuart, DR Ron...) I had to skip most of your posts on the subject. Because I missed the finale. :(
My tv guide only had the regular 1 hour show listed. So imagine my dismay when I was watching it later and heard them say there was another hour.
Good news is they play it on a Canadian station too here. And they only showed one hour last Saturday. So it is listed for this Saturday at 10pm. Anyhow I was not too happy with the F2. Although I really want Mitch to win. Hate Kimberly and thought it was totally unfair that she came back. Her craft was stupid and sure she was slightly photogenic on camera. But as if anyone would watch a show with her on it.
The whole system of letting them vote each other off was wrong. How are you ever going to find the BEST if you let the contestants get rid of the best ones. The judges should have been the ones to vote people off.
-
Hello Larry!
Would you like to do Brunch on Saturday or Sunday during the Penny O Weekend?
DR MichaelShayne, Sunday brunch would be a treat and a pleasure. Have you booked your room, and where is it?
The WOD has me thinking:
Some feel it platitudinous
To stifle attitude in us
-
Jennifer,
Isn't a Canadian version of American Idol? Does it get the same notice in Canada as the American version.
Getter better vibes to you

Yes I booked the room at the YMCA. Reasonable rates and I took the nicer rooms with the shared bathroom/showers. So I will be up near your neck of the woods. Broadway and 63rd (I think. Have to check for the actual street #)
-
I find that as a word, platitudinous, to be a banal, bromidic and a clichéd word.
-
Have a great day everyone. I must get ready to deal with the public and help pay for my trip to NYC next weekend.
-
DR BEN I have the movie soundtrack and the Revised OBC of Damn Yankees, if you just need a particular song, I can send you the file to burn.
-
DR Rodzinski - use my email icon below and send me your email address.
-
I have just decided to listen to the soundtrack of Kiss Me Kate, the 1990 CBS Special Products release, not the complete Rhino release of a few years later.

Ben! Tell Anthony GOOD LUCK on his audition. Too bad he doesn't have JOSE C SIMBULAN playing for him.
Yesterday's first read-thru was all but perfect. We adjusted about 8 measures of music, and could have performed it last night. Jose is a one in a million accompanist - he doesn't just "follow" - he really accompanies. It is something you're born with or you ain't. A sort of telepathic connection - means we don't really have to rehearse. Another run-thru today with the tech director and lighting designer, a run thru tomorrow with the onstage dresser and tech folk - then no more rehearsing until the Tuesday night tech and Wednesday afternoon Dress - and open on Wed. night. Is life really this easy???
Hi, Mikey! Hi, Larry!
-
Just catching up on yesterday's posts... Joey, the loss of my grandmother was the single most painful event of my life - almost 18 years ago by now. And as time has passed, the feeling of "loss" has subsided - and the abundance of wonderful memories has taken its place. Funny, happy, joyous moments with her come unbidden at the unlikliest times - and I find myself smiling, laughing, humming along. Death is an illusion, they live forever in our hearts.
-
Up earlier than usual this morning because a friend and I are going out for Krispy Kreme doughnuts this morning. I'm salivating at the very thought.
-
DR Ben mentioning DAMN YANKEES reminded me that I don't have the OCR of that show on CD. I have the rerival with Bebe Neuwirth and Victor Garber but not the original. That's something I definitely need to look into finding.

My Christmas Roses in my tiny garden: I wonder why it’s called Christmas Rose…they not bloom in Christmas time or they don't belong the rose family...
Your Christmas Rose is a member of the buttercup family and in it's native Europen habitat does, in fact, bloom at Christmas time.
This pretty little thing is DEADLY POISON! ( Read Here (http://www.ansci.cornell.edu/plants/christmasrose/christmasrose.html#helletox))
The entire Christmas rose-plant is toxic. Out of all the organs particularly the rhizome contains ill-defined compounds. The powerful toxins present are not destroyed in drying or storage. Both animals and humans are affected. Hellebores are said to have a burning taste.
On a lighter note, their is a wonderful story about the flower (extracted from Christmas.com (http://www.christmas.com/pe/1328):
The Christmas Rose
A well known English plant, the Christmas rose, is a true Christmas flower. It is sometimes called the Snow or Winter Rose. It blooms in the depths of winter in the mountains of Central Europe. Legend links it with the birth of Christ and a little shepherdess named Madelon.
As Madelon tented her sheep one cold and wintry night, wise men and other shepherds passed by the snow covered field where she was with their gifts for the Christ Child. The wise men carried the rich gifts of gold, myrrh and frankincense and the shepherds, fruits, honey and doves. Poor Madelon began to weep at the thought of having nothing, not even a simple flower for the Newborn King. An angel, seeing her tears, brushed away the snow revealing a most beautiful white flower tipped with pink - the Christmas rose.
Also in central and northern Europe it is the custom to break off a branch of a cherry tree at the beginning of the Advent and keep it in water in a warm room; the flowers should burst into bloom at Christmas time.

Good Morning!
-It's been sort of strange. I realized when I got up this morning at 7:30, that I don't seem to sleep in whenever I'm in New York. I mean my "normal" wake up time is usually 10:30-ish, but not in NYC. Hmm...
And the futon was/is very comfortable too.
:)
-
And on a personal high note - I can "comment" on the notes!
Mr. Preminger’s direction is elegant and very assured (I believe it was his first film)
According to IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0695937/) he had some considerable practice before "Laura":
Laura (1944)
In the Meantime, Darling (1944)
Margin for Error (1943)
... aka Clare Booth Luce's Margin for Error (USA)
Kidnapped (1938)

As for Media Check Friday...
Well, since I'm back in work/show mode, that must mean I don't have anything in my media players. I did listen to some Mozart and Schubert yesterday with my friends' children, but that's been about it.
I guess with all the auditions I've played over the past couple of days, I am my own media player.
;)

DR Michael Shayne, yes there is a Canadian Idol. This year's will probably start after American Idol finishes here. American Idol is very popular here, and Canadian Idol will take the same time slot. I'm not sure what the ratings are for the Cdn version although I think they are good. The ctv.ca website probably has some info.
I think so far we've had 2 winners. Season 2 was 100 times better than Season 1. The winner of Season 2 (Kalan Porter) seems to be doing okay in Canada. Although my favorite was the #2.
Hope that helps.

Friday Media Check:
CD - Deanna Durbin: Original Film Soundtracks
DVD - FIVE LITTLE PIGS
PAINT YOUR WAGON (this will be swapped out if something interesting comes in the mail today)

Yes, I ordered LAURA this week and will look forward to seeing it again soon. I have a videotaped copy from FMC that I've watched within the last six months, but I am very enxious to see the DVD version.
-
I also ordered the next big Warner box of musicals that has EASTER PARADE, THE BAND WAGON, FINIAN'S RAINBOW, BELLS ARE RINGING, and the remastered BRIGADOON in it. Been reading some wonderful things about THE BAND WAGON.

Nomination for "Groans per Column Inch"
(From the AP (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/TOILET_PAPER_TAX?SITE=CALON&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT):
Florida Lawmaker Seeks Toilet Paper Tax By DAVID ROYSE
Associated Press Writer
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida's Legislature is flush with good ideas. Sen. Al Lawson's involves a 2 cent-per-roll tax on toilet paper to pay for wastewater treatment and help small towns upgrade their sewer systems.
The Democratic lawmaker's pay-as-you-go bill has been the source of many jokes - bathroom humor you might say - but he says the issue is a serious one, especially in some of the fast-growing Panhandle coastal counties in his district.
"They're experiencing a tremendous boom in growth and they're not able to accommodate the growth," Lawson said. "We've got 17 million people in this state and all of them can contribute to protecting our underground water supply."
In a Republican-dominated Legislature that doesn't like new taxes, the idea is likely to pretty quickly end up in the tank.
Senate President Tom Lee, R-Brandon, said he didn't think it would get too far, but didn't rule it out.
"We'll be getting to the bottom of it real soon," Lee said.
The House is skeptical as well.
"We're not wild about tax increases," said House Speaker Allan Bense, R-Panama City. "But we'll certainly let it go through the system."

Ray Court's talked Laurie Mitchell out of appearing at the April show in Burbank :( Instead he wants her to wait until the October show.....but I may still attend the April show if there will be some good celebs in attendance...Diane McBain is listed, so that is good...and Laurie said she would pop down to Burbank and have lunch/martini's and walk around the show with me (she wants to see who will be there, also).
-
Well, my sugar buzz should last me the rest of the week. Wow!

In my CD player at work: the London cast recording of Me and My Girl with Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson. I've had the vinyl album since it was first released, but just yesterday, I got this CD from eBay. I haven't listened to it in quite a few years and I always forget that Emma Thompson is in it. After that...to be determined.
In my VCR at home: nothing. "Star Trek: Enterprise" is a repeat and, even though I'm going to my parents' house for dinner, I'll be back in time for "Battlestar Galactica" at 10:30. It's on later tonight!! I'm glad I checked tvguide.com!

BK, where is the Mission Hills paperback show located (yeah, I know Mission Hills!). I know it's somewhere around Sepulveda...near Hogly-Wogly's, but I don't remember the specific address.
Rodzinski, what is it exactly you do and for whom, if I'm not prying?
Media Check: I'm currently listening to the very witty News Quiz with Simon Hoggett on BBC 4...of course, one has to know somewhat what's going on in Britain and something about their politicians and celebs. But even if you don't, it's still pretty funny.

CD player: I'm still on my Mike Oldfield kick. Currently listening to Tubular Bells 2.
We'll be driving up to Dover later today, so there's bound to be something on the car CD player on the way back.

Der Brucer confirmed yesterday that we will NOT be joining everyone for JTOB weekend. We simply cannot leave the dogs for that long a day. When we had just the five, the trip would have been feasable (although we would have had to kennel Fletcher), but the addition of Peggy and the Pups countered that.
Sorry. We were looking forward to meeting (and re-meeting) everyone.
Peggy and the Pups sounds like a close-harmony vocal group.
Brent Barrett would look even sexier if he had a puppy. Someone tell him I said that, if he's around. :D

DR RON - I think we should apply to be on the next edition of THE AMAZING RACE.
I agree about Jay on Project Runway. But I was very disappointed with Kara Saun's collection - completely ripped off from THE AVIATOR.....it didn't seem to be an homage, but even the Aviator leather helmet and goggles! It was surprising to me that she was not more original.
Wendy's designs were negligible. In fact I think a couple of the people who had been eliminated might have had stronger collections.
-
The paperback show is at the Mission Hills Inn - 10621 Sepulveda Blvd.
It's way the hell up on Sepulveda, past Devonshire, I believe.
Sadly Mr. Brent Barrett won't be able to sing at The Drama Bookshop event, but we will have a suitably sexy replacement for him. Our very own Theresa Finamore (from Jeepers Creepers album and The Stephen Sondheim Album) will be there for sure, and I hope to have a couple of other nifty surprises.

Back from rehearsal, and taking care of an errand in the MSG neighborhood. I finally figured out the whole Express train deal, so I had a very nice quick - albeit crowded - trip back uptown.
Gonna chill for a few, then get ready for my date. :)
-
I put my other Friday media list items on hold to watch (and record) the old Helen Hayes/Bette Davis Miss Marple TV-movie MURDER WITH MIRRORS. Poor Bette was just coming back from her stroke and is barely mobile. Helen Hayes in her memoirs expressed how difficult making this movie was as Bette was irascible with everyone (flinty personality plus obvious irritation with herself for not being able to do what she once could) and made John Mills and her miserable just getting through the rigors of filming. Still a fun mystery even if the Joan Hickson version is, of course, definitive.

The part of the "Sword Dance" that was cut from the BRIGADOON film has been included on the new BRIGADOON DVD release as an outtake along with the cut numbers "Come to Me, Bend to Me" and "From This Day On," all of which were included on the last issue of BRIGADOON on laserdisc. I'm sure lots of folks will be happy at long last to see these numbers.

Oh dear, that sounds murky! ;)
And may I return the compliment! :D

What is this? A slow PLATITUDINOUS news day here on HHW?
Well....I went out to lunch at my favorite Szechuan restaurant...and had a platitudinous full of chicken curry.
Ohhhhh....it was SO good!

It was a dark and stormy day at B&N! The only ray of sunshine was a visit by our Miss Penny Orloff looking glamorous to make all others hammacher schlemmerous, and off to an interview. Most of the customers were quite pleasnt, oddly enough, but there were dark currents amongst staff and management.
I had a fascinating day at the NYPL Theatre collection yesterday: Jeremy McGraw, who supervises the theatre photos and I several weeks ago had gone through the BABES IN TOYLAND photo files and identified actors and sorted out the photos from the 1902 WIZARD OF OZ. Both shows had been produced by Fred Hamlin and Julian Mitchell, who also directed, and the publicity for both productions and their tours was handled by Townsend Walsh, who left voluminous scrapbooks and papers to the NY Public Library. Yesterday we went through all the WIZARD OF OZ 1902 photos looking for misfiled BABES photos. One of Jeremy's interns had uncovered a Townsend Walsh scrapbook of publicity shots for the two show, most of which probably haven't been seen in the past hundred years: amazing photos of Montgomery and Stone as the Tin Woodman and Scarecrow, both in and out of makeup, Mabel Barrison who was so bad in WIZARD OF OZ that she was replaced, only to become a star in BABES IN TOYLAND, and other performers: the Cowardly Lion was played by handsome Arthur Hill, who had the physique and biceps to send Michael Barnum into a coma, Bessie Wynn who also starred in BABES had some wonderful publicity photos as Dashemoff Daly in WIZARD, and Miss Barrison's replacements as Tryxie Tryfle the Waitress, Grace Field and Lotta Faust, were absolute beauties.
Then we got to Walsh's BABES photos for most of the principals: great shots of William Norris and better shots of Ignacio Martinetti his replacement, so I've now seen every costume worn by the leading man in BABES, as well as all the costumes worn by the dancing couple, Grumio and Jill, played by married couple Charles Guyer and Nellie Daly. It was an amazing find.

Definitive? Value judgment for sure. I have enjoyed the Rutherford performances and also those of Hickson but I am finding the recent Geraldine McEwan interpretation an absolute delight.

Hello all! TGIF, Big Time! Oh, man you have NO idea.
DR Elmore, If you are sure it wouldn't be a problem for you, you know I want to ride the subway--I don't even care where. Could we go maybe on Saturday?
If it's really cold, maybe we go somewhere and do lunch? Or have some tea? Everyone else is welcome as well. :) Maybe some would like to watch me ice skate or join me?
-
The roofers have been here all day-- pounding, pounding, pounding and more pounding. There is still much to do and many miles 'til I sleep.
CD's: Robert Miles "Dreamland"
"Lost In Boston I"
VCR: Various things I apparently taped in 1987

More pounding......

Hi DR Tom! Long time, no bird pictures! Hint! Hint!
-
Opps, DR Elmore, you said your dance card was filled on Saturday afternoon. How about the morning? Or Sunday for lunch?
-
Hello Danise - check your mail hint hint! Not many birds around at this time of the year - you may have to settle for kangaroos!

Hello Danise - check your mail hint hint! Not many birds around at this time of the eyar - you may have to settle for kangaroos!
Is that how you designate time down under....in "eyars"???
:D

Just a quick check in for me right now. I haven't even had time to read the notes yet! I woke up took a shower and had to head straight to Greenfield to run some errands then I had lunch with my mom at Cracker Barrel. I had blueberry pankakes with blueberry strup. YUM! I then proceeded to drive up to school to make a payment and talk to the School of Music about scheduling my audiion for Music Education but unfortunately the lady who I was supposed to talk to had just left so it will have to wait until Monday.
I visited with some friends up there until about 5:45 and then headed home and am now typing here and now. My dad is home so I must go. I am getting a badly needed new pair of jeans and tennis shoes. I'll be back later.
-
The eyar is mating season for the somewhat reclusive and elusive bunyip.

Friday greetings, all!
Media check: CD (car) - selections from the movie You've Got Mail. On TV tonight, I'm looking forward to the 2-hour Stars on Ice special.
DR Rodzinski - Saturday evening the Pac 10 final will be on TV here at 6pm and I'll be watching for you. I'm actually more of a Big 10 (specifically Michigan) football gal, but I do like March Madness. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to be a true blue Michigan Wolverine living in Ohio? I sure do take a lot of abuse, especially in the fall!
-
DR Joey - Welcome back. Where in Ohio is it that you're back from?
DR Elmore - I'm glad Angus McIndoe is the choice for the post-show partay next week. Are you still free for dinner on Friday?
-
I had to restore my iPod - a week ago I stupidly unplugged it (after updating) before I should have, and it damaged quite a few of the music files. So, I called Apple (I must say, especially after Dell, Apple is the berries in terms of helpful customer service - amazing) - one minute later everything was fixed, the iPod had my iTunes library on it anew and all is well.
-
Just a quick check in for me right now. I haven't even had time to read the notes yet!
OH, MY!

I have been on a mad house-cleaning jag all day. Besides, getting refrigerators and garbage disposals fixed, I have been straightening and sorting and cleaning up debris that's been around here since Christmas. Oh, I feel saintly and pure!

I understand but I am so very sorry we won't be treated to the pleasure of your and Dear Uncles company. :( I was looking forward to meeting you both.
-
DR Elmore. Saturday at ten would be fine with me!
-
Soon I will be on my way to the Dena of Pas to see Doubt.

International Herald Tribune, Paris, today:
A musical based on the 1942 movie "Casablanca" will make its world debut in Beijing next month, the Xinhua news agency said.
The film starred Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as former lovers who meet again in Casablanca, Morocco, during World War II.
The stage version will feature tap dance numbers and the theme "As Time Goes By," Xinhua said.
The premiere is scheduled for April 8-12 at the Great Hall of the People, the seat of China's legislature.
-
I guess the.... tap dance numbers will feature the Foreign Legion!! LOL!
-
Class!
I'm "so sorry" that Elizabeth Jagger and her boyfriend can't afford a hotel room to have sex, and I "love" that British judge who ruled that they had a "legitimate expectation of privacy" when they engaged in sexual activities just INSIDE a nightclub's doors Feb. 17.
Am I too old fashioned if I say that, to me, those people -- judge included -- are full of ..... sh.t?
Mama Morton; whatever happened to CLASS?????
-
Frightening news François.
I now have the Frank Sinatra song "French Foreign Legion" song playing in my head. (Not quite a Miss Saigon reference).
-
I think it got confused with the word, "CRASS". Or maybe that's just me.
-
Oh...for those who are not in the know;
Elizabeth Jagger is the daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall.
Her boyfriend, Calum Best, is the son of former soccer star (!?) George Best.
No need to say more!
We do live in wonderful times!
-
Hummmm...
Since those British people need a life... may I suggest they STAR in the soon to open musical
MAISON BLANCHE???
I mean "CASABLANCA"!
They could have sex ON STAGE while ... tap dancing!
Am I too.... French?
-
I am hoping that DR can help me choose what to watch this weekend.
What are your top choices for DVDs that you would recommend as "Testers" for widescreen tvs and surround sound?
-
On my IPOD: Listening to the great late Laurie Beechman sing God Bless Us Everyone from No One Is Alone album. What a wonderful track!

My play reading in Fort Lauderdale is on hold until after May 1st when I'll find out if my play is chosen or not for the theater's next season. We will season.

Maybe some would like to watch me ice skate or join me?
I could join you and we could make the 11 o'clock news - I give new meaning to "rubber ankles".

Is it any better if I skimmed the notes and read the topic of the day? ;D I am truthful no matter what. I find I have much better luck always telling the truth than trying to lie or withhold the truth sometimes.

DR Michael S: LOTR of course. Great sound.

I can easily imagine how emotional the JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN theatre viesion was and I’d love to see it if it’s replayed someday somewhere.

"The Red Violin" is a wonderful DTS Stereo viewing/listening experience.
It was my first DTS video and it blew me away!

Good Evening!
Back from my dinner date, and a fine dinner and date it was. :)
-Actually, the service was a little slow and sketchy, but once the food arrived, it was quite delish. He, David, selected a place here in the neighborhood - the menu was a bit varied, but seemed to feature both Cajun and Tex-Mex items.
The conversation was sparkling, and we have lots in common too. One thing we, unfortunately, had in common was that we both happened to be a little tired tonight. The week had caught up with both of us. -And he has to be up at 7:00 tomorrow to go into work. Yikes! We're gonna try to get together again sometime tomorrow night or on Sunday.
But even though we both were a little tired tonight, we had a very good time.
-
So, now I'm back here with my friend, Nick - who is also a bit tired tonight. I almost headed down to Don't Tell Mama, but I just decided I was too tired to really enjoy myself there. I have a feeling I'll be turning in early tonight. Which is OK. I wanna get to Whole Foods at the Time-Warner Center in the morning before it gets too crazy. Then I have rehearsal with Penny at 2:30. Then I'm observing MAMMA MIA! tomorrow night. So tomorrow is quite a full plate. Which is good. :)

Benny discovers the Doggie Door and leads the Parade
Benny is smart!
And
Thank you for the description and some quotations for Christmas Rose. My flower book says that they bloom in Christmas time, too, but MY Christmas Roses usually bloom in this season for these five years...how strange.
-
DR elmore - Which B&N are you at again? Will you be there tomorrow?
-
"The Red Violin" is a wonderful DTS Stereo viewing/listening experience.
It was my first DTS video and it blew me away!
"The Red Violin" you watched is the one with Samuel L. Jackson?
I saw it in Italian version and it's my favorite.
-
Watch new episode of Trail by Jury (the last 30 minutes) I really liked it and did not miss the jury deliberation this time around. I complained that they were way too short las week.
-
I think that I will tackle the complete Lord of the Rings trilogy this weekend.
-
The Broadway-to-Hollywood boxed set sounds nice and tempting, DR MATTH. It must be just for me! Look forward to having it in Japan, too, soon. (unfortunately couldn't find it on amazon. co. jp yet)
-
Dear BK:
Did you get your overnightbag yet? If not, remember my recommendation.
-
Well. I am most impressed. I just stumbled across the following at Broadwayworld.com (which most of you probably already know about):
Kimmel To Have Book Signing For 'Writer's Block' on March 18th Featuring Special Guests And More
Post Feedback | Author Bio | Printer-Friendly | Subscribe to Alerts
March 11, 2005 - by BWW News Desk
Trying out a new musical can be MURDER!
Please join Grammy-nominated musical theatre record producer, screenwriter, director Bruce Kimmel for a reading and signing of his new mystery novel, Writer's Block
In conjunction with the book, Mr. Kimmel will be giving away a special limited edition five-track CD, only available at the signing.
Special guests will be on hand to sing songs from the musical featured in the book.
The party and signing will be held on March 18th from 5:00-7:00 at the Drama Bookshop located at 250 W. 40th Street NY, NY. Please RSVP to info@dramabookshop.com or 212-944-0595 x417
Set in the world of Broadway musical theater in 1969, Writer's Block is a funny, bitchy, suspenseful tale of the creation of a new musical-from the start of rehearsals, through the tryouts in New Haven and Boston, to opening night and after. The arguments, the fights, the tensions, the betrayals-yes, there's no business like show business. But when someone vital to the show turns up dead, apparently of accidental causes, it's time for one member of the production team to become an amateur Broadway sleuth in search of the truth-was the death an accident or was it murder?
“Writer's Block is one of those rare mysteries that pays greater dividends upon a second reading… Mischievous surprises… Part of the fun of Writer's Block is Kimmel's expert evocation of a bygone era in New York theater.” - Charles Wright, Theatermania

Well I have officially been trying to fall asleep for 3 hours. :(
I took a Contact C, and figured I would be out like a light. But it doesn't seem to have worked (usually if medication is supposed to make a person slightly drowsy, I get knocked out for almost a whole day).
My head and jaw are hurting I can't even lie down. And I keep getting the shivers (but have no fever). Weird.
-
I am hoping that DR can help me choose what to watch this weekend.
What are your top choices for DVDs that you would recommend as "Testers" for widescreen tvs and surround sound?
It's not a great film but BATMAN AND ROBIN has vibrant color, awesome surround sound, and great blacks in that opening sequence. LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING has the best DTS track I've ever heard. Go to the chapter where the skulls come raining down on Aragon and the others if you want to hear terrific (and very loud) sound design.
-
DR Tom, what Miss Marple mystery films has Geraldine done? I've never heard of them. Are they locally produced there, or are they available for purchase?
-
Der Brucer and I will be rising early tomorrow, so that we can enjoy the Chocolate Festival (http://www.rehomain.com/Chocolate%20Festival.htm). This is NOT wussburgering. Anything done for chocolate is not wussburgering.
So there!!! 8)
-
Yep, I thought that TRIAL BY JURY was excellent tonight, and, of course, they couldn't tell us much about the jury deliberations because of the ending of the show.
I had planned on recording NUMBERS tonight, but we're having ACC conference basketball preempting all of the CBS line-up. The local CBS station is showing NUMBERS tomorrow night at 11:35.
-
FIVE LITTLE PIGS was quite good. This must be the first CHristie mystery that had what turned out to be a gay male suspect as part of the story. I assume he was written that way in the book. Haven't read it in a long time, but he was certainly identified as such in the film.
-
The Broadway-to-Hollywood boxed set sounds nice and tempting, DR MATTH. It must be just for me! Look forward to having it in Japan, too, soon. (unfortunately couldn't find it on amazon. co. jp yet)
I think its complete name is Classic Musicals Collection - Broadway-to-Hollywood
-
THE MUMMY is also good for picture and sound!
-
Brendan Fraser's THE MUMMY not Boris Karloff's THE MUMMY.
-
Feeling very drowsy...
Goodnight.
-
I am addicted to the budget DVDs of 1950s TV series TREASURY MEN IN ACTION (a.k.a. FEDERAL MEN)...4 volumes of a show I had never heard of before, but they are sure fun...lots of neat guest stars! Who knew a show about the IRS going after tax dogers could last for 4 years! LOL!
Here is my Bollywood movie for the weekend, which I am just about to start watching....
SOLVA SAAL (1958) The plot revolves aroudn a gangster who helps a college girl retrieve a stolen necklace, whilst singing and dancing, no doubt.

DR Tom, what Miss Marple mystery films has Geraldine done? I've never heard of them. Are they locally produced there, or are they available for purchase?
Made for the BBC - 4 only but there may be more. (2004)
Brilliant guest stars too. Derek Jacobi in "Murder at the Vicarage". Joanna Lumley was quite delightful in The Body in the Library and the lovely John Hannah is in another story.
-
4 Disc set of Miss Marple to be released in the UK March 14th. (the Geraldine McEwan ones)
-
Rodzinski fans can see plenty of me on TV during Pac-10 tournament action, as I am plainly in view at the press table when one team has the ball. Look up near the basket at the table, where I sit behind the very laptop on which I type these words. I wonder when the agents will start calling... My mother was excited anyway.
It's twue, it's twue!!!
Our very own DR Rodzinski and laptop are right there behind the Stanford bench. I should've talked him into playing mindgames with the Cardinal players to help out the Huskies, dang it!
-
Bk, I think The Lovely wife may accompany me to the book fair. Mayhap we should have lunch afterwards...Hogly Wogly?
-
Slow night here at the old ranchero, Cisco...
-
Gee, I ain't had this much fun since I watched the dog roll over.
-
Any more excitement, I might just get the vapours.
-
Well, all this hubbub done plumb wore me ragged. Reckon I'll be moseying along, you all...Don't take any wooden nickels...
-
It's the ATTACK OF THE WUSSBURGERS. I'm back, and must now write the notes apace.
Lunch at Hoggly-Woggly's could work just fine.
-
Hisaka, what was the brand of luggage again? I will most likely be buying something this weekend.
-
Hisaka mentiond Tumi luggage, BK.
Your decision will be Tumi or not Tumi.
-
--no groaning allowed--
-
Notes are finished - whew! Wasn't sure I'd make it or not. Good food of the day, too.
