Well, you've read the notes, you are aware of the early bird gets the worm business, and now you are ready to post until the cows come home, which will take awhile since they're traveling right now.

Extraordinary concerts:
Barbara Cook at the Melbourne Concert Hall
Paul Simon at The Royal Albert Hall
Paul Simon at Flinders Park (or whatever the Melbourne Tennis Centre is called this year!)
The most fun: Village People at Melbourne's Festival Hall.
First Concert: Melbourne's Festival Hall (when it was called the West Melbourne Stadium) - The Mouseketeers & the Diamonds (1958).
Worst concert: Dionne Warwick - Melbourne
Loudest (and painfull). Maria Muldau

I really can't think of many concerts I have gone to outside of the Hollywood Bowl, which is alwas a wonderful experience. I've seen Rosemary Clooney, Babs Cook (with Mandy Patinkin), Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald. The lovely wife and I like to sit up in the nose-bleed section of the cheap seats. We take a picnic dinner and some nice bottles of wine and spread out and have a lovely evening under the stars. I also know secret places to park which with a few minutes walk let you avoid the crowds at the end of the evening.
The only other concert I think I have gone to was to see Bobby Short once at the Wilshire.
I have also seen Bobby at some hotel in Dallas. and I saw Anthony Newley at the same hotel once.
-
I've seen The Manhattan Transfer in concert six different times. They were fabulous every time. I've also Sade (pronounced Shah-day...not Shar-day) in concert. That was pretty good, too. My niece loves The Corrs and had tickets to see them in an outdoor concert, but she couldn't go. She was too sick at the time (a couple of years ago, I think), so her mom (my sister) and I went. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I also had to take my niece to see The Dixie Chicks in concert. That was a very good concert. But the best has been and always will be The Manhattan Transfer!

Have a great trip, BK!! ;D

I'm off to beddy-bye land. 'Night!
-
Good Morning!
I, too, have had a bad Dionne Warwick concert experience. Amazingly short set - her opening comic, who was Jenny Jones at the time, did about an hour - just as long as Ms. Warwick's portion of the evening. And she sang three songs that were duets with male singers... with tracks!?!?!?
Favorite concerts:
Tuck & Patti - They opened for Spyro Gyra a couple of years ago. I only went to see/hear Tuck & Patti, and after Spyro Gyra started their set, I - and a bunch of other people - started to leave. Eh... But Tuck & Patti put on a great show.
Barbara Cook's "Mostly Sondheim" evening at the Kennedy Center. It was her final performance during the Sondheim Celebration, and I had house seats. :)
My first National Symphony Concert - Vladimir Askenazy was the pianist - Brahms' Second Piano Concerto.
There have been a bunch of other ones, but they're not coming to mind right now...
-
Well, it's been a good, long day. And now it's time for some good sleep.
Goodnight.
-
Saw Penny O's show this evening, and, oh, anyone going to see it is in for a treat! Penny was so funny-the audience seemed to love her. And Jose was wonderful as always.
Glad you liked the cream puffs, Jose, and I look forward to chatting with you again on Friday.
Safe trip to everyone heading for NYC!
-
Soon I shall be on my way to the Beach of Long and then on my way to New York, New York.
-
Good morning, all! Oy! The weekend has officially begun with BK's departure to the East Coast. I'm hoping the subway problem has been solved before I head out in the next few minutes, and that its fine for the incoming friends, especially DR Danise. Also, it's been quite chilly the past few days, so bring some thermal underwear or something to wear that's warm for the outdoors.
Speaking of incoming friends, would you please PM or email me with your hotel info and phone numbers (hotel or cell)? Thanks!
Concerts?
A. In Dec 194, I sang in the chorus of a wonderful MESSIAH, with the Cincinnati Symphony conducted by the late great Max Rudolf, a fantastic conductor and a wonderful gentleman. By contemporary baroque performance practice, this would probably sound stodgy and Victorian now, but the concert was my first exposure to one of the world's great compositions, the soloists were superb, and it's one of my concert highlights.
B. In 1988, I was one of Michael Tilson Thomas' assistants and librarian for a fantastic Gershwin celebration at the Brooklyn Academy with Larry Kert, Maureen McGovern, Julia Migenes, Christopher Walken, Madeleine Kahn, Leonard Bernstein, Rosemary Clooney, and others. PBS played with it and the broadcast won an Emmy. I adore Michael Tilson Thomas, who's an amazing conductor and gentleman, and working with him was certainly one of the great opportunities I've ever been given.
C. The best concerts I've been to:
1. The New World Symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas at Carnegie Hall around 1990. I have no idea now what they played beyond a John Adams piece, but the orchestra was young and enthusiastic, Michael is tops, and I remember how exciting it was.
2. In 1973, Bette Midler played the Cincinnati Music Hall, and I had her first album. For birthday gifts to friends and my brother and his wife (the first of three) whose birthdays ran from Nov 5-11 (literally Nov. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11), I bought them and myself tickets to Bette's concert. No one in the group knew who she was beyond me, and I thought it was a hoot to get to Music Hall and find the steps to the door covered in drag queens. Barry Manilow had a set to open the second half, and it's probably the greatest event I ever attended.
3. A close second would be Cleo Laine and John Dankworth around 1976 and another amazing performance I hoped would never end.
4. In 1970 or so, Beverly Sills finally became famous after singing everywhere for years. I had seen her do FAUST and TALES OF HOFFMANN at the old Cincinnati Opera in the Zoo, and she'd been wonderful. The City Opera revival of Handel's GIULIO CESARE for her and Norman Treigel made her a star, and I was lucky to see a performance. At the end of her first big aria, she gave the audience a "top that!" look and sailed offstage in this huge barogue gown. I don't think we have divas of that calibre any more, and La Sills was amazing. The audience went crazy.
5. Over 10 years ago, Marc Shaiman moved from New York to Los Angeles to work with Bette Midler, and his farewell to New York included two concerts at The Bitter End with a small band and a lot of his friends performing Marc's songs. If you were lucky to be there, it was one helluva night!
WORST CONCERT: Miami University 1971, Judy Collins seemed very unfriendly: no encores, no talking to the audience, and it all seemed very brisk. To be fair to a lady I've adored since I first heard her and who's always pleasant when I see her these days, I think she was going through a bad personal period, and it wasn't a bad concert at all; it was a letdown for me.
I still think she's one of the greats and always will.
-
Barbara Cook at Carnegie Hall in 1980 and the Manhattan Transfer in Saint Paul in 1978. Both amazing and wonderful.
I saw The Glass Menagerie last night. It's got problems. First of all, I don't remember it being almost 3 hours. Perhaps it is but the other productions I saw were paced better. It drags terribly at points and comes in at almost 2:45. I looked at my watch more than once during the show, always a bad sign. It opens in one week so I don't think they're doing much about running time. I wish I could understand why the director, David Leveaux, decided to do some of the scenes, important ones IMHO (In My Humble Opinion), behind a lace curtain scrim??? Also, the scene in the first act where Tom grabs his coat to run out and the coat hits the shelf where Laura keeps her glass animals is badly staged. The uproar that follows is not in proportion to the little or no damage caused by the action of the coat hitting the shelf.
The girl playing Laura comes off the worst in this production. Although there is repeated mention in the script that Laura is "crippled" again in other productions I don't remember it being so obvious. The brace is very prominent and although she doesn't drag her bad leg behind her she certainly limps much more than I think necessary. Also some of her shyness seems to have devolved into slight developmental disability. It's so unpleasant to watch in the scene with the Gentleman Caller. Granted, she has very few social skills but the staging and line readings just ring so false for me.
There is (IMHO) some disturbing staging between Tom and Laura in the first act. I know he loves and treasures his sister but some of the physical staging brings the idea of incest far too close to the surface for me.
While Jessica Lange is good in the role it's not a career marking performance and Christian Slater seems to be in another play. He's speaking Williams' lines but they just don't connect for me. He also just played "drunk" in his scene coming home from "the movies". It's hard to make drunk work on stage and he doesn't do it. As an actor would say, he's "indicating" all over the stage. Also, the blow-ups between Amanda and Tom are just loud choreographed movement on stage, there doesn't seem to be any truth or reality to the scenes.
I'm really disappointed in this production. The poetic beauty of the piece (in spite of it being a rather sad story) is missing. Williams has written gorgeous lines and they are delivered by competent actors but something is missing. Slater has been in the show for a while now but it seems like he's still searching for the character. He knows his lines but he doesn't bring the character alive for me.
Oh, well. You pay your money and you take your chances.
On another note (C#), glad to hear the first night for JTOB went well.
Since it's now 8:19 I must hie off to Robert Wood Johnson and his various and sundried grants. I will return later.

TOD:
I've seen Fairport Convention several times and their concerts ar always fun, but the best one for me was one November at the Stephen Talkhouse out in Amagansett on the South Fork of Long Island.
It was a very small and intiment setting and out table was right up against the stages. The kitchen had been closed for the winter so they allowed you to bring food in form the deli and the pizza parlour next door. The band shared our nachos and cheese and pizza between songs!
-
I also remeber very fondly seeing Dan Fogelberg at Carnegie Hall, must have been 1978 or so. It was just him on the stage with his guitar and it was a wonderful evening.
One of the worst concerts I had been to was the Petty/Dylan at Madison Square Garden in 1985 or 1986 , I think,,, Petty was ok but Dylan had absolutely no connection to the audience. The lights came up, he sang, the stage went black, never spoke to the audience, didn't appear to even notice we were there. It was a real turnoff.

Ex-'Idol' Hires Clay's Lawyer, Releases Album
Thursday, March 17, 2005
By Roger Friedman
"Personal reasons" be damned. The secret is out (and so is the album).
Mario Vasquez, the guy who quit "American Idol" suddenly last week, has been "Clay-ed," or is that "Ai-way-kened?"
He's hired Clay Aiken's high-powered record-industry lawyer. And he may have jeopardized his "amateur" status by being featured on an album that's already been released.
Vasquez, I've learned, has gotten Atlanta entertainment lawyer Jess L. Rosen to represent him. Coincidentally — or not, depending on how you look at it — Rosen is most famous for extricating Aiken from his octopus-tentacled "American Idol" management contract with Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment last year.
…
In leaving the show, Vasquez was obviously convinced of the value of bowing out now rather than continuing through the needless process of competition. Aiken would be his role model.
After losing "American Idol" to Ruben Studdard, Aiken realized that he was stuck with a management contract that kept him with Fuller, the show's owner, for years to come at a very high commission.
Rosen got him out of it and moved him over to Jeff Kwatinetz's behemoth agency, The Firm.

Have a good flight, dear BK!
And enjoy your NYC stay with beautiful DRs.
Look forward to many pictures will be posted.

Concerts: Bette Midler, early in her career, played Detroit's Masonic Auditorium and Ann Arbor's Hill Auditorium, and I attended both. Barry Manilow was her pianist and Melissa Manchester was a Harlette.
During high school in the '60's: Peter, Paul, and Mary at Detroit Masonic and The Supremes and The New Christy Minstrels at the Michigan State Fair
Concert-related memorable experience: On my first trip to NYC, with my mother in 1967, we toured the then-new Lincoln Center and were unable to go into Avery Fisher Hall because there was a rehearsal in progress. The guide, instead, took us to an observation room, from which we watched Leonard Bernstein and Van Cliburn rehearse. That was a thrill.
-
Thank you DRs JANE, TOMOVOZ and RODZINSKI for your mentions of "dubber".
I think the word works. ;)
-
I have only been to one concert and this one was in 1984 or '85...Portland Oregon...TALK TALK and BERLIN. It was a lot of fun. BERLIN, particularly, put on a great show.

More and more concerts are coming to mind: Jethro Tull at the Jones Beach Theatre, where the stage is floating just offshore...on a lovely warm summer evening in 1987 or 1988...
-
DR Rodzinski, is RAGE OF THE WEREWOLF your only film? I will have to find a copy of it! It would be fun to see.
-
More and more concerts are coming to mind
Isn't it funny how these TOD's do that?
More concerts for me: Victor Borge with Cincinnati Pops, Doc Severinson at Crisler Arena (Univ. of Michigan), Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops at Fraze Pavillion here in Dayton, a Miami University Men's Glee Club Alumni Reunion concert in which my DH Richard and both of his brothers sang.
-
The much needed security cover shade mentions did no good, but now we're getting Broadway theatre ads....
Thank you all for your helpful suggestions BTW.. and Jose thanks for the offer of the escort shade, but I don't think it will fit.
I actually did buy a shade on ebay for a 1996 Taurus wagon, it turned out that ws the year they had changed the body shape, and of course it doesn't fit. So now I have to offload that!
The way it got on the roof, is that it slides out to make more room when you have a lot of cargo. When dear dear DH bought me the Gazebo for Valentine's Day
(dislocating his arm in the process of loading it as you may recall) he placed the roller shade thing on the roof. With all the arm dislocating ruckus we forgot it was up there and then when we got home we were tending to his arm. We never heard it fall off, but fall off it must have, and we didn't remember it until about a week later, when I went to use it and found it was gone.. of course during that time period there were several snows and of course plowings so all chance of recovering the cargo security roller shade was lost.... and here endeth the sad saga of the cargo cover roller shade that is no more

DR Rodzinski, is RAGE OF THE WEREWOLF your only film? I will have to find a copy of it! It would be fun to see.
I think DR Rodzinski should have a showing of it at the HHW meet Saturday night!! :D

In Dec 194, I sang in the chorus of a wonderful MESSIAH,
Well, it's good to know I'm not the oldest one on this here website.
-
And with that I will suddenly deWussburg.
I have been lurking, yes I have been lurking. But it seems I'm always a week behind reading the posts, and I never want to post until I'm up-to-date.
The good news is that Joe and I will be at the signing and the show and the PARTAYs afterwards. Since he came down with EMS, it has been too difficult to make a day-trip into the city, so once or twice a year we have a theatre week, and fortunately this hhw get-together coincides with my spring break.
I have moved my final from Friday to today SPECIFICALLY so I can attend the most excellent (Oh, a Bill and Ted reference!) book-signing.
We will be staying at the Marriott Marquis for six days. Our plans:
FRIDAY: Signing and Joe Allen.
SATURDAY: Jewish Thighs and Angus.
SUNDAY: Dame Edna
MONDAY: Forbidden Broadway
TUESDAY: Dame Edna Turnblatt (Hairspray)
WEDNESDAY: The Producers
MONDAY: Washday. Send your undies Chinese laundry in Hong Kong.
Gotta run and torture my students. Laters.
-
DR WFO - May I talk to you briefly Saturday evening about my son's recent Calc II experiences at the University of Cincinnati?
Nice to have you back, BTW.
-
What a wonderful day. Everyone jetting in to the Big Apple for the opening. Yes it is like an MGM movie! Yes we must have photographs, so that those of us in the hinterlands can pretend we are there!
-
Good morning folks. Well, it’s hard to believe that the time to go is nearly here. Just a few more hours, less then a day now, and I shall follow our host on a journey to the New City of York.
I shall not be traveling as light as our host. I fear I play my own brand of “What If” and have packed for every contingency. The big suitcase, the suit bag and the carry on are all coming with me.
So, don’t worry, DRElmore, I think I shall have enough clothes to be warm. If not, there’s always Macy’s. The only item I do not have are ear muffs—they don’t sell them down here (that I could find) but I did get a nice thick stocking type hat. It fits over my ears so they should be ok. I also remembered that I had bought some Tote? (not sure if that’s how you spell it) boots for the last time I was going to be there in March.
I have lots of odds and ends to take care of today. Going to get fresh bread and lunch meats and various other sun dried things to make sure Mom is comfortable. She is doing much, much better. Thank you for asking, DearReaderLaura.
Concerts, well, I guess the most memorable would be the Michael Ball concert I attended in SLC last year. I have seen Neil Diamond, Meat Loaf, the Monkees and Michael Crawford in concert but they are about all. I’m not really into concerts.
Guess I’d better get going so I can rest this afternoon. Three AM will come early. Can’t WAIT to meet you all! New York City, Here I come! :D :D :D
-
Ah - favorite TV MOVIES:
A Case of Rape with a stunning Elizabeth Montgomery performance
Night of Terror - with Valerie Harper witnessing a murder and being chased by the murderer
The Point - an animated movie with music originally by Harry Nilsson
And others, I am sure.
Concerts:
4 Girls 4 - with Helen O'Connell, Rose Marie, Margaret Whiting, Rosemary Clooney - what a great night of music
Sarah Brightman - surprisingly good show, she is funny
Los Diavolos - an Italian dance-gymnastic troupe
-
Best concert for me was Liza Minnelli in 1985. She was still at the top of her game, and she was sensational. I'll never forget "I Love a Piano" entirely delivered on a barstool including choreography that absolutely stopped the show cold. An amazing night.
-
Hi DRWFO!!
OMG - how could I forget Neil Diamond!! He was out supporting THE JAZZ SINGER - and he put on a GREAT show!
-
The bottom three vote getters on AMERICAN IDOL this week were all women, I think symbolic of the talent gap between the women and men this year. I have to say I think Lindsey is a better singer than Mikalah, but she is such a nonentity on the stage with no presence or spark that I wasn't at all surprised that Mikalah received more votes. I would really like to see Mikalah gone next week and Nikko the week after. Then, the competition will have nothing but good singers left to compete against each other.
-
I put in the new MARY POPPINS (well, new for me; I found it at Circuit City for $11.99 this week) last night, and I was blown away by the new Disney Enhanced Theater Mix in 5.1 Dolby. Never have I heard that much bass in the soundtrack to that film. And though I thought the transfer was starting out a bit dark, the interiors all look just fine, at least as far as I got into it. Will hopefully finish it today.
-
I saw Tony Bennett at the Westbury Music Fair on Long Island in '88 or '89 I think.. He was wonderful. He put his mike down at one point and sang"I Left My Heart in San Francisoco" without any amplification, amazing the way that man could sing and his voice just filled the place (granted it's a relatively small venue but still!)
-
And with NCAA basketball wiping out the CBS lineup of procedurals tonight, I will be able to watch figure skating on ESPN or a DVD movie or TV show. It's nights like this that I'm glad I have a DVD library and cable.
-
What a wonderful day. Everyone jetting in to the Big Apple for the opening. Yes it is like an MGM movie! Yes we must have photographs, so that those of us in the hinterlands can pretend we are there!
Awww, JRand, I only wish you and the other could be there.
I was going to mention about Denise Nickerson playing "Amy" on Dark Shadows. I never would have guessed that picture was her.
-
And a happy St. Paddy's Day to one and all. I think I will watch LITTLE NELLIE KELLY on laserdisc today in honor of the occasion. Might do that tonight in place of network TV.
-
DR Ben, I forgot to thank you for the wonderful directions to the book signing. Rest assured, I did a copy/paste and they are in my PDA to take with me.
-
DR GINNY I am so jealous that you saw Van Cliburn and Bernstein rehearsing....oh....oh...my

I am getting so excited to finally meet everyone!
I am very jealous of WFO since I must miss the book signing. I will force him to memorize it and relate it all to me in excricuating detail, including the singing!!

DR JOSE, Tumi clothes are the collaboration of Japanese fashion designer and Tumi, and possibly the clothes yet are sold only at Tumi flag-ship shops in Japan. They have shirts, suits, jackets and coats only for men for the moment and these are all in black–and-white. I think those are stylish.

I shall bring my littel camera and take as many pictures as I can to post on this here site for those of you that we will be missing dreadfully

Well they should hire you , you are doing a great job for them!! :D

I saw DEVO in Atlanta when I was in high school, and that was a great show. They were already past their glory days then. Then, last Summer they played in Central Park, and they were still awesome. It rained all day, rained right through the boring opening bands that were really trying to sound cool and detached. Then DEVO starts and the rain stops. They play the last note of their last encore and the skies open raining harder than ever. It was crazy.
I won tickets to a fine Mel Torme show in Toledo. That was a good time.
Rod McKuen at Carnegie Hall a couple years back.
Iron Maiden at the Garden. Surprisingly enjoyable show.
Dottie West at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point, Ind. My first ever concert!
-
Page 3 Peppermint Twist.
-
I was a bit hacked off last night when I learned that Carrie was in the bottom three.
Scott and Nikko got more votes than Carrie??? Has the world comPLETEly lost its mind?
Sigh.
That group song last night...supposedly one of three for which we will vote to be released as a single -- was one of THE worst things I've ever heard in my life.
The orchestra was too loud, the vocals were all BELOW the singers' ranges....they sounded terrible...and when a singer sounds terrible singing a terrible song, what's the POINT?
But capping it off were the solo bits....could Mykalah have BEEN more inept? Could NOT understand an off-pitch word she brayed. Sounded like a donkey that had been hit with a cattle prod.
There's something about Bo I detest. He's ... he's...SMUG. They re-aired Simon's comments following Monday's performance...and when Simon said he sounded as if he'd "been doing it for 20 years," Bo's face scrunched up into a look that said, "Yes, I'm so glad you recognize that!"
He's a throwback to the 70s and he's getting tiresome to me.
-
I wish they had Jet Blue from Oregon to California...plane tickets are going up...up...up! A couple of weeks ago a flight from Portland to Burbank was only $159...now it is around $200 :(
-
That's the price of 3 DVD's!
-
Hey DR RonP, re: AMERICAN IDOL, you mean JESSICA, not Carrie.
I agree, while I dislike Jessica, I was very surprised that she was in the bottom 3.

Don't worry, according to the last weaqther report I heard we're expecting it to a balmy 46 degrees on Saturday...that's shorts weather!!
and the snow isn't expected until Saturday evening :)
-
I shall not be traveling as light as our host. I fear I play my own brand of “What If” and have packed for every contingency. The big suitcase, the suit bag and the carry on are all coming with me.
But do you have your towel? (A Hitchhikers reference)

I was going to correct DR Ron as well. It was Jessica, not Carrie, in the bottom three. She's certainly better than some that weren't in the bottom three, but I think Carrie has a ways to go before she appears there.
-
I agree that group song was terrible last night, but the one person who sounded one the mark was (*susprise again) Constantine. I thought he alone did fine with his solo line.

MBarnum-
There've been a few others. All of which make Ed Wood look like David Lean. ADDICTED TO MURDER 2, some alien ones, another werewolf one... They range from generally laughable to entirely unwatchable.

I've never even heard of Fairport Convention. What kind of music do they play?
-
Concerts:
Sarah Brightman - surprisingly good show, she is funny
I can't believe I forgot this! I saw her in concert last year with my mom and thought she was very good...my mom didn't like the pop-oriented songs, just the "operatic" ones. ::)
-
I stand corrected...I got the blondes mixed up...oy!

I can't believe I forgot this, also! (Well, since it's happened twice now, maybe I can. ::) ) Anyway, Tony Bennett sang here in Olympia last year and was fabulous! My sister and I bought tickets for our parents because my dad LOVES Tony Bennett. Tony also did the same thing of singing "I Left My Heart..." without a microphone. The Washington Center for the Performing Arts (where he performed) holds almost 1000 people! He was incredible.

I, unlike Ann, have not caught up. I have been very busy and have missed a few days, so no doubt I am out of the loop (nothing new for me).
TOD: I saw Billy Joel before he was famous, right after his abortive first album (Cold Spring Harbor) came out. He played a little club in SLC and I, a budding young pianist, was quite simply blown away. Sergio Mendes' concerts are always fantastic, especially the percussion break he always features about half-way through. And, MBarnum, did you know that Berlin's Marietta Waters went to that group after leaving Sergio? She can be heard on several Sergio discs, and I much prefer her with him than with Berlin.
Re: Band Wagon. I watched the doc last night. Can someone please tell me what is going on with Cyd Charrisse? Is it a face-lift gone awry? Or did she have stroke or something? Her left eye is very peculiar. Did she also have a nose-job? She looks nothing like she did in her 50s hey-day.
Re: Bixby's The Magician (see how far out of the loop I am?). The show co-starred the wonderful Keene Curtis, Utah native, who was a gentleman and a scholar and also had a long run on the show my sister-in-law was Production Manager for, Cheers.
-
I wish they had Jet Blue from Oregon to California...plane tickets are going up...up...up! A couple of weeks ago a flight from Portland to Burbank was only $159...now it is around $200 :(
Oh, MBarnum, have you not been paying attention? ;)JetBlue is coming to PDX in a month or two, plus they are having a $99 fare sale to all their destinations!!
-
I've never even heard of Fairport Convention. What kind of music do they play?
They are an English band, folk/rock and they are my very favoritest group. they've been around for about 35 years in many incarnations but I first saw them back in '87 or '88 as an opening act for Jethro Tull, the Fairport bass player, Dave Pegg has also been Tull's bass player for years.
If you are interested email me yuour address and I'll snede you a CDsampler of some of their stuff.
Also, here is their website:
http://www.fairportconvention.com/
They are well worth seeing in person. They put on a fantastic show and they also usually do a meet & greet afterwards

I knew they were coming, but just not in time for my trip to Burbank in April :(
But maybe I can then afford to take a trip to New York someday!

LOL! Well, they sound like fun. I am trying to find you in the credits on IMDB...but I guess Rodzinski is not your stage name, huh!
I want to rent one that you have a meaty role in!
And Ted V. Mikels is in one of them! Oh, golly...lol...I saw his movie about the man-eating cats...THE CORPSE GRINDERS!
-
Good Afternoon!
I ended up lazing about on the futon this morning. When I got up to check the time it was 11:58! Whew! However, since my next "deadline" is tonight's show at 8:00 - call at 7:30...No rush.
;)
There's some cleaning I want to do around here - dishes, bathroom, etc. Yes, I know this is not my place, but it's one way I can contribute and say Thanks to Nick and Graham for letting me crash here. *And I also just like having a clean kitchen and bathroom wherever I am.
;)
-
My favorite concert was a Barenaked Ladies concert last year. I didn't expect much, but it was a blast!~
-
DR Hisaka - Thank you for the pics of the Tumi clothing. Stylish yet Classic. Very nice.
-
More concerts...
Rare Silk and Freddie Hubbard at the Carter Barron Amphitheater in DC, sometime in 1985 or '86, I believe.
Rare Silk at Blues Alley.
Claude Bolling and his trio at Blues Alley a couple of times.
-
rained all day, rained right through the boring opening bands that were really trying to sound cool and detached. Then DEVO starts and the rain stops. They play the last note of their last encore and the skies open raining harder than ever. It was crazy.
And that is precisely what happens in the film of Evelyn Waugh's Decline and Fall when Margot arrives at the school soccer game.
-
DR WFO - Great News! Looking forward to meeting you and DP Joe.
Someone better remember to bring their camera AND to take pictures!
-

I have always wanted to see him.. Since he's a local boy his concerts sellout immediately and it is impossible to get tickets unless you are willing to part with a limb or two
-
Note to DRs about Jewish Thighs On Broadway...
Penny's show runs about 90 minutes straight thru without intermission. Basically it is a true "one act" one act play.
So, plan your pre-show liquid consumption accordingly.
;)

We are not going to be given a hard time about bringing a camera into Penny's show are we? Obviously I would not use it during the show, I want it for the HHW dinner after and maybe some shots in fron to fhte theatre before....but I just don't want someone in authority taking it off me.

I hear he's appearing nightly at the Betty Ford clinic. :o

Safe Travels.

elmore, Max Rudolf was certainly a dynamic character. Robert Knauf, our music teacher/chorus director, was a friend of his (I think Mr. Knauf used to do something with the May Festival as well) and somehow, every year he got the Cincinnati Symphony and Mr. Rudolf to come to our high school for a concert. The chorus would do a few numbers with them, then the symphony would play for another hour...right in the gym, the audience in the bleachers.
I also remember Mr. Rudolf introducing a young conductor under him...Erich Kunzel, who all the girls thought so dashing...
We...and several other high schools...sang some Leonard Bernstein piece at the May Festival (I think it was the May Festival) under the choral direction of Robert Shaw. That was a pretty big deal too. I remember being bussed over to Concert Hall to rehearse.
Well, I don't know whether he's innocent or not, but Bobby Blake still has a way with a phrase, "I used to be a rich man. Now I couldn't buy spats for a hummingbird."
-
Rodzinski, I'm looking at IMDb, too. Do you have a wee bit o' the Irish in your name, perchance? I would never divulge it publicly, of course.
-

I can't afford that either!! ::)

OMG - Judy Garland in Cincinnatti in 1966. She came two hours late and she did say: "We'll stay all night and sing 'em all!" LOL....
-
...As long as it's in your purse/bag/etc., and not hanging around your neck ready to snap. Shouldn't be a problem.
It'll be in a case, but it's too big to fit in my purse
-
I'll have my digital camera, too, in a case in my bag. In fact, one of my pre-trip errands the other day was to have a memory card added. I'm good for 345 pictures - think that'll be enough?
-
Oh...
Thanks for all the "American Idol" updates. -It'll be another couple of weeks before I'll be "home" and able to watch the show live on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
And I'm really curious about the group song that's been mentioned.
-
DR WFO - May I talk to you briefly Saturday evening about my son's recent Calc II experiences at the University of Cincinnati?
Nice to have you back, BTW.
Sure. But this is not a busman's holiday, and I absolutely refuse to give a somewhat dry lecture on how to calculate compound interest and annuities. Unless, of course, Nancy Sinatra can't make it.
-
It'll be in a case, but it's too big to fit in my purse
The past couple of times I've been to Broadway shows, they have checked for cameras upon entering, but they've never taken them away from anyone - at least not in my experience.
Ushers still make the rounds of the audience before the curtain telling/reminding people to put their cameras and phones away.
However, I do remember that in the months following 9/11, some theatre required everyone to check their bags at the coatcheck, but I think that situation has eased up.
-
OK - Time for me to futz and putz and then head out for a while...
Laters...

In other news, a suspicious-looking blonde woman was detained by authorities while trying to enter the Clurman Theatre with a camera in her purse.

Good morning all
Well, I had an interview this morning. It was probably the fastest interview I've ever had in my life. I got in at 9:43 and was out of her office by 9:49. Most of her questions required yes or no answers, which didn't take long. She said that the beginning wage I asked for was higher than she'd pay (I didn't think it was all that unreasonable) and that even though the ad in the paper DID said Full Time, she was only hiring for part time people. Why do employers do that?? This is not the first time I've responded to an ad that said Full Time, only to find out it's Part Time or On Call work. How frustrating...
all in all, it wasn't a bad interview, but it wasn't really good one either. I didn't really have time to make any impression on her, good or bad. So who knows....

DR Jose, re: the Idol song. They didn't really explain it that well. But apparently there will be a bunch of songs that America will be choosing between (did they say 3?). It's some charity thing.

I've seen Manhattan Transfer twice, both thoroughly enjoyable. The first time was at the Puyallup Fair, during a rather heavy rain. Didn't slow them down a bit! Still did a full concert, skipping over intermission so as not to make the audience sit in the rain any longer than the music lasted. Fabulous performers.
Pancho Sanchez got the crowd moving in their seats like you wouldn't believe when I saw him. Diane Schuur was delightful. Dave Brubeck hasn't slowed down much at all over the years, and it's pretty hard to beat hearing him play "Take Five" live!
-
In regards to the earlier Neil Diamond comments...
My favorite thoughts on his concerts come from Jack Black. "Don't let anybody tell you that Neil Diamond doesn't rock! You may have to drag somebody to his concert kicking and screaming, but by the time it's over, they'll be genuflecting at the altar of Diamond!"
-
Speaking of Fannys (rimshot please).....
A lady who is as much a Frances Dee fanatic as I am a Frances Farmer fanatic (is that possible?) passed on this little tidbit: Frances Dee has a cameo in Come and Get It. She was on-set one day visiting hubby Joel McCrea and Howard Hawks told her to suit up as an extra. Now the question all these years (evidently, according to this lady) is where exactly she appears. I just watched the new MGM/UA DVD re-release of this (and true to form, they botched it, but that's another story) and I believe we see a snippet of Frances Dee in a scene about 3/4 of the way through. Farmer, Arnold, Brennan and Christians enter an elegant restaurant, and the camera tracks alongside them as they walk through the crowd. As they approach their table a woman on screen right looks back at them over her shoulder and I think that's Frances Dee.
Back to your regularly scheduled posting.....

I've been to quite a few concerts in my day. Jason Graae, Michael Feinstein, Davis Gaines, Michael Buble, and a rock concert we went to by accident when we wanted to see the blue men.
-
I have always wanted to see him.. Since he's a local boy his concerts sellout immediately and it is impossible to get tickets unless you are willing to part with a limb or two

Sorry. Had to do it.

And since I've been catching up on the notes, there were a few things that stuck in my head.
DR Jay, was it?, or somebody else mentioned he would like to see Jerry Orbach as Mr. Mister in The Cradle Will Rock. My first exposure to the show was on a complete recording done many years ago with Orbach as Larry Foreman. I don't think I've ever seen it on CD, only the Patti Lupone version

Hoo and Ray, my nephew Jeffrey (son of DR Jane's Fedex man) has now returned to the United States from his tour in Iraq (He just landed in Fort Lewis, Washington). I hope he never has to go back. The connection for the Los Angeles Area for Jet Blue is probably Long Beach, but it's a nicer airport than Burbank, IMO. BK should be able to confirm this, IHO (in his opinion).

Today was "meat loaf Thursday" at the local art museum restaurant. Just wonderful!

Good Afternoon!
Well, I ended up having a nice couple of hours of domesticity - I guess that's one way to put it.
I washed the dishes, wiped down the counters and stovetop. Then proceeded to clean the shower, sink, basin and the floor in the bathroom. :)
-I have a feeling Nick and Graham might not recognize the place when they get back tonight. ;)
But, it was fun cleaning, and just taking my time with it. I'll be heading out in a few to run some errands and grab a bite to eat before heading in for tonight's show.
So...
Do you think this sort of ad would work on craigslist.org:

Souvenir programs and LPs as I recall, but that's been a LONG, LONG time ago.

Yep, I saw Judy Garland in 1965, and sad to say she was in very hoarse voice that night. She struggled and apologized over and over about how poorly she was singing (she appeared here in 1961 and was a sensation, but I didn't see her then). Glad I got to see her live once in my life, but now I'm just glad I have her entire set of TV programs to see her in her latter day prime.

DARBY O'GILL is a great film to choose for tonight, DR Ron. If I hadn't watched it a month ago, I would have picked it for tonight myself.
-
We DEFINATELY have puppies in the house. They have been wrassling all afternoon...underneath der Brucer's bed. And they've been having a wonderful time, from the sounds they've been making. Every once in a while, der B has joined in with a booming "CUT THE NOISE, I CAN'T HEAR THE TV!!!"
Puppies make a household so happy! ;D

DR Elmore: You are like the finest of fine wines.
You only become better, smoother, more vibrant and valuable the older you get.
-
Do you think this sort of ad would work on craigslist.org:
-Moving to New York. Will Clean for Room.
DRJose, I would guess it depends on what you're willing to clean!
-

A second choice could be "The Quiet Man."

DRRon Pulliam, thank you for that vote of support. I'm feeling like an unclassic ruin!
-
From what I've read on this here site, he can cook, too ;)
Exactly my point, I don't clean or cook... ;D
-
A second choice could be "The Quiet Man."
Both are great choices. Have you seen the Irish comedy "An Everlasting Piece"? Very funny and quirky.
-
DRRon Pulliam, thank you for that vote of support. I'm feeling like an unclassic ruin!
NEVER!!
-
I've received notice that my order for "Laura" on DVD was shipped yesterday.
When I tracked the package, it's slated for delivery today.
Yowzah!
-
DR Elmore: Hmmmmmm....is that better or worse than being a "magnificent ruin"?
:D
-
I am going to get my hair cut this afternoon so people won't think I am a hippie.

I have not received my LAURA copy yet, and I really am looking forward to it. Argh!

Having met you, DR MB, I think you could have hair down to your nether regions and no one would think you're a hippie. ;)
-
I see that NBC has renewed THE WEST WING, CROSSING JORDAN, JOEY, E/R, and LAS VEGAS for next season. Actually, E/R was renewed through 2008. The three already established LAW & ORDERs got 2 year renewals last year, so they're coming back, and MEDIUM got a renewal for another season some weeks ago.
-

What? Have some of your hairs come close to touching your ears?
:D
-

Haven't seen it, but I have heard good things about. Thanks for your recommendation.
-
Has anybody heard from dear bk?
-
I really love "The Girl Hunt" in THE BAND WAGON. In fact, I think every number in the movie is a winner. My only real complaint is dubber India Adams doing Cyd Charisse's singing. Her voice is nothing like Cyd's and is very metallic and grating to my ears. Carol Richards, who provided her singing voice on BRIGADOON and SILK STOCKINGS, wasn't available, but I can't believe they couldn't find someone whose singing voice was closer to Cyd's than India Adams'.
-
OH! I see bk...welcome to New York bk, how was your flight?
-
MB ya wild kid, ya!
MATTH did you see the stagehand in LOUISIANA HAYRIDE?
-
Geeze Louise it is after five and I have to pick up Vthe Vixter at her choir rehearsal ..bye bye for now!!!
-
DR Elmore: Hmmmmmm....is that better or worse than being a "magnificent ruin"?
:D
Darlin' it can only be worse! I'd love to be a magnificent or even classic ruin. I'm too tacky and tawdry.
-
I am going to get my hair cut this afternoon so people won't think I am a hippie.
I'd like to see that!
-
Does anyone know what the deal is with Cyd Charisse? Does she have a glass left eye? I've done a websearch and can't find anything. I thought some people here knew her. Inquiring minds need to gossip.
-
I'm here, and finally online.
-
And you wonder why my eBay payment instructions are longer than my listing description department: Some idiot who could not spell or punctuate just emailed me asking me if my Columbia House Petticoat Junction episodes included the original broadcast commercials.
-
I'm here, and finally online.
Yes, but are you caught up? :)
-
And caught up with all the posts. Did I forget the word of the day? I fear I did. Oh, well, TWO words tomorrow.
The flight was great, as soon as we got past the slight little screwup. I got there two hours early so I could get my aisle bulkhead seat. The guy who did my ticket said they'd already given it to me. So, that was great. But, when I boarded the plane there was someone sitting in my seat. The flight attendant looked at my ticket and they gave me the fershluganah WINDOW seat, a claustrophobe's nightmare. I said I wouldn't sit there - the attendant was great, though, and he got the guy to move, so I had my aisle. The attendant was quite miffed that they'd screwed up (it was CLEARLY and HUGELY written in my record that it had to be the bulkhead AISLE). He wrote a note and gave it to the gate person, who said he'd fix it for my return home. I hope that means they just give me the correct seat now, then I don't have to get to the airport two hours early. I'll call in the morning and find out.
The flight flew by (to coin a phrase) - that was because I was reading my heavy tome and making corrections. So many typos and weirdnesses, but I think I'm catching most of them. Also, a few repitious things (and not in a good way), and a few things to smooth out, but I'm kind of enjoying the thing.
-
Part Two:
The taxi ride in was amazingly fast - no traffic at all. However, my taxi driver did a really stupid thing - he was coming up 35th and he knew about the parade, but thought they might be letting people through at 55th. I suggested he go to 8th, but he cut across Lexington. Well, it was a disaster. They WERE letting cars on 55th, but it would have taken two hours to go four blocks. At that point there was nothing to do but get out at 55th and Madison and walk. Which I did, lugging my computer and my Tumi carry-on. I was so out of breath by the time I got here that I couldn't even talk when trying to check in.
The suites are very nice here at my hotel. I had a bit of trouble connecting to the Internet because my Apple Man hadn't configured the computer for hotel stays - they talked me through it and now it's fine.
-
It's actually quite nice here in New York, New York - a bit nippy, but not terrible. I have to go out now and get some Diet Coke.
-
And you wonder why my eBay payment instructions are longer than my listing description department: Some idiot who could not spell or punctuate just emailed me asking me if my Columbia House Petticoat Junction episodes included the original broadcast commercials.
Well...DO THEY include the original broadcast commercials?
:D
Inquiring minds unfamiliar with your eBay listings want to know.

Well, they include lots of commercials for other Columbia House titles, I can tell you that much. :P

Hey BK, welcome to the East!
Land o' Dreams!
There's a place across the street from Grand Central that says it has the "Best Pancakes in America". Just thought you might want to know someone is gunning for Du-Par's.
It was sunny most of the day today.
-
A second choice could be "The Quiet Man."
I might put on my vinyl record of Donnybrook! tonight. ;D
-
Or, the BK produced Frank McCourt's The Irish...and how they got that way! My dad loves this recording.
-
My hotel is located directly next to the Ziegfeld movie theater. I'm usually not quite uptown this far, but I rather like it around here.
My suite is a bit peculiar - instead of a couch in the sitting room, it has one of those humungous exercise things. They said if I wasn't happy they'd switch it, but I'm rather fond of how weird it looks. Of course, I have no clew how the damn thing works.
-
My little Apple wireless mouse works great.
-
And BK, glad the flight was uneventful ::) and you landed safely!
-
My copy of "Laura" has arrived. It's sitting before me, in all its splendor, awaiting the end of the business day.
-
I also have an opened bag of Kettle Chips' "Salt and Fresh Ground Pepper" potato chips beside me. Yum.
-
I'm drinking iced water, too.
-
I'm drinking Diet Coke. Soon I'll be on my merry way to Joe Allen's to meet up with Mr. Elmore, my NY assistant Jonathan, and whoever else shows up.
-
I have a beautiful view out my 42nd story window. An office building surrounded by other office buildings.
-
I haven't seen Miss Charisse lately except in THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT III - I am not sure, but she seems to have indulged in a bit of plastic surgery. I believe she did also suffer a stroke a few years ago, but she is carrying on just fine.
-
Cyd Charisse Page Eight Dance!!! ;D

May I just ask a question? Since when did they start making mannequins with defined body parts??? Have you seen these? I mean, really! I walked by a clothing shop and there were some female mannequins in skirts and blouses, with nipples protruding proudly. Then there are the male mannequins - have you seen those, the ones they use for underpants? I mean, really! Do I NEED to see that?
-
They had nipples for a long time on female mannequins. I used to dress them in a department store way back in the early 70's.
-
Well after all, when it's their turn to spend thirty days as a real person, they need to have all their working parts.
Did you go to the 13th floor to return a golden thimble?
-
What did the man say when they told him he had to give up your seat?
-
I have always wanted to see him.. Since he's a local boy his concerts sellout immediately and it is impossible to get tickets unless you are willing to part with a limb or two
That was another great concert. I say him in Iowa City years ago, I loved it when he turned around and played to the cheap seats behind the stage
-
The man who switched seats was very gracious.
They didn't have nipples like the nipples I saw today.
-
Glad you made it safely to New York BK, hope you all have a wonderful time, wish I could be there!!
-
They didn't have nipples like the nipples I saw today.
Didn't Beyonce sing that on the Oscars?
-
That's the title of my new book "They Didn't Have Nipples Like The Nipples I Saw Today"
And I certainly hope that old saying isn't true...."See Nipples and die....."
-
Then there are the male mannequins - have you seen those, the ones they use for underpants? I mean, really! Do I NEED to see that?
Were they too generous?
-
They didn't have nipples like the nipples I saw today.
If you knew Nipples like I knew Nipples,
Oh, oh, oh what a gal!
:o
-
I do believe it's a song by Meltz and Ernest.
Girls of old had nipples
That barely caused ripples
They didn't have nipples like the nipples I saw today
Then their nipples were hidden
Today their nipples aren't kiddin'
Their nipples stick out like a blizzard in May
Nipples should be covert
And never ever overt
Nipples shouldn't be emphatic
Out of control and wholly erratic
Yes, nipples now are really out there
Can there still be any doubt there
In olden days a glimpse of nipple was quite outre
No, they didn't have nipples like the nipples I saw today!
-
Cha cha cha
-
And with that I shall be on my way for a fine dining adventure at Joe Allen's.
-

See, I knew Beyonce had sung that on the Oscars. Meltz and Ernest were far, far overdue for an Oscar nomination, don't you think?
-
Just wanted to check in real quick to see if BK made it alright.
I'm going for my shower then to bed. I guess I'll see some of you tomorrow!
-
Who burnt the smelt?
-
Ice skating on ESPN!
-
Who was going to be at Joe Allen's? So the reading is tomorrow night and PENNYO's show is Saturday night? Is that right?
Not that I get to go or anything.....
-
Didn't someone here have a desire for THE BOATNIKS to be released on DVD? Well, whoever it was you can wait no more as it is coming out August 22!
Well, I guess you will have to wait a little while.
The CINDERELLA special edition is released the same day.
-
I watched men's figure skating tonight. Sloppy performances from everyone, but the Swiss champion truly did miraculous spins and two terrific quads. Even his two missed triples (which he singled) were kind of elegant. If one hadn't known that singles just aren't performed in a contest where you're trying to acrue points for every move you can squeeze in, I would have thought they were part of the performance.
American men finished 3rd, 4th, and 10th. That should get us three men on the Olympic team next year in men's singles.
-
And from what I gather, all of the American men this year were skating with injuries. With all the heavy jumping these folks have to do, it's little wonder their knees, their feet, and the muscles in their legs are prone to serious injury.
-
I thought CINDERELLA was scheduled for October 4th. Shows what I know. I watched the trailer for it on THE INCREDIBLES DVD, and I remembered that CINDERELLA is probably the least elaborate animation of all the Disney classics. It seems much less showy, much more sparse in its backgrounds and effect.
-
No, DR JRand, I didn't notice the stagehand in "Louisianna Hayride" on THE BAND WAGON, but I will look for it tomorrow.
-
Hello Everyone! I want to thank everyone for all the wonderful birthday wishes yesterday! I was feeling a little strange about this birthday - I am the BIG 35! I don't feel like the BIG 35, but I am the BIG 35. Anyways - all those great birthday wishes made me feel a lot better! Thanks again everyone!
My Darling Father's Darling Daughter :D

Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!
The Shirley Jones-Jack Cassidy BRIGADOON comes to CD next Tuesday! I could not be more thrilled. I have loved this recording for more than 40 years, and now I will finally have it on CD. I had NO IDEA it was upcoming!
-
What a day!
I only came on to wish any travelers a safe trip.
Goodnight.

Gosh bk, what a sweet baby face...
-
Hey Jane!! How goes the renovations?
-
I hope you had a lovely birthday JB, and I hope we see more of you online!
-
Back from the Allen of Joe, and what a swell time we had. Grand to see elmore and my NY assistant and pal Jonathan, who, as it turns out, is a regular lurker around these here parts. Hi, Jonathan! We're trying to convince him to join our merry mad troupe.
After being so good for the past three weeks, eating-wise, I'm afraid I was quite bad tonight, but then, it was my only meal o' the day. I had a shrimp cocktail, a dinner Caesar salad, bread, a bacon cheeseburger and a baked potato, and peanut butter pie with whipped cream. But that's the only gorging I'm going to do. Plus I walked a LOT today and tonight. More later. I'll write the notes in an hour or two.
-
So Jose how was the show tonight?
-
bk, did you have a nice dinner? Who all was there? Did you find a singer for tomorrow or or you going to do the singing? I do so wish I was going to be there, but WFOl has promised to tell me everything!!
-
Oh, you already answered me while I was asking the question!!
-
I've fogotten the name of the restaurant where we are going Angus something.... I want to check where it is as we are drriving in and I would like to try and find a garage reasonably nearby the restaurant.
I am sure there must be away to search topisc on the board but I haven't figured it out yet
-
Somebody come and play, somebody come and play today....
oh, a Sesame Street reference ::)
-
Found the name of the restaurant AND the location...yeah!!
-
Alright, since everyone is sitting here like so much fish...beddybye for vixmom

The restaurant is in the theatre district. Lots of parking choices. And lots of other people to park with you - if you get my drift.
I'll find the actual address in a bit...
However, if you don't mind a few blocks' walk, the parking over at the Skyline Hotel is dirt cheap by NYC standards. It's over at 50th and 10th. I believe parking is still $15 for the night past 5:00pm.

Angus McIndoe, on 44th Street, next to THE PRODUCERS, I believe! I'm back from a lovely time with Dear Friend BK, and I got to finally meet Jonathan in person after knowing him only from phone conversations. He's got a sharp mind, a ready wit, and a passion for DVD releases, so I'm not sure he'll fit in. Jonathan, come and join HHW!! Try it, you'll like it!
-
Oh.... So, BK, are you not staying at your normal NYC digs this time round?
-
Late night for me, 'cause we went to Cincinnati to pick up Rob for his spring break. I'm just about as packed as one can be the night before, cell phone is charging, iPod is charging, and I'm about to go to bed to recharge myself. Have to leave about 9am tomorrow to drive to the Land of Cleve (oh, I've always wanted to do that!) to catch my plane.
Glad to hear that bk arrived safely and there was a lovely gathering tonight. Safe journeys to my fellow travellers tomorrow. See you all soon!
-
Safe travels Ginny, I have your cookies!!!
-
Thank you dear Jose & dear Larry for the information. I think I found a place where I can park on 44th for $11. I am now definitely off to bed...
See you Saturday!
-
Oops!
Apparently, the Company Manager sent me last year's housing options by mistake the other day, so... Since the WNBA tournament is in town the same week that MAMMA MIA! comes in, the downtown hotels are either booked or demanding higher rates. So, instead of the Residence Inn, I will be staying at the Towneplace Suites By Marriott on Union Chapel Road. We had another option, but since the decor had been described as, I kid you not, "Amish on crack", I decided against it. ;)
Now, if there are any Indy DRs who happen to need some housekeeping and cooking done for a couple of days...
-Oh, and I also realized that I'll only be playing the shows while I'm in Indy (and Memphis). No rehearsals to play, so I'll have plenty of daytimes free. Any suggestions?
-
Good show tonight. Small, but appreciative - and vocal audience. And apparently, there was nice little burst of ticket sales today too. :)
-
OH!... I've lost track of how long the "out-of-towners" are coming if for. I'll be "off" from the close of Sunday's matinee to the 7:30 call for Wednesday night's show. If any DRs would like to walk the isle of Manhattan with me...
;)
-
...And since it was sort of brought up earlier..
Just how are we going to be splitting the bill at Angus McIndoe? Will they be adding on the gratuity in advance? And should we all have wallets and purses with lots of small bills in them?
-
Good evening, fellow Dear Readers.
I saw the concerts mentioned by DR Sandra earlier, plus DR Kerry took me to see my favorite duo -Steve and Eydie.
When I was a young teen, I so wanted to see The Osmond Brothers, but my mother wouldn't allow me to go to a rock concert at the Phoenix Coliseum, because they do drugs at rock concerts at the Phoenix Coliseum, you know.
-
Hmmm.. It's just DR François and myself right now...
"The Frenchman and the Francophile"
Intriguing, n'est-ce pas?
-
Well my cameras and phones are charged. My IPod is getting more music (more than I need) and will not get a little bit of sleep before I get to the airport.
I called the airline and the FSA website to find out if a camera tripod is legal as part of your carry on luggage. I couldn't find an answer. Anyone know?

Camera tripods are legal for carry-on. BUT note that the airlines are being VERY strict lately with carry-on luggage - size, weight, number of pieces. If your tripod is in it's own case, they will most likely consider it one of your two allowed pieces.
-
Well doggone if I didn't get a shipment of Bollywood dvds in the mail today...so I decides to pop one in...JAGIR staring JRand54's fave Meena Kumari...well there are no subtitles!!! The DVD case says that it has English subtitles, but lo and behold, when I press the subtitle button on the remote control, the screen says "no subtitles recorded"...!!!!! >:(

Sweet Boatniks! You shall be mine!!
I had the chance to buy THE BOATNIKS once at a PeepWorld. You see, here in NYC, Giuliani had gotten rid of a lot of the porn dealers, but they could stay open if a certain percentage of their inventory was non-porn. This made for some good VHS deals back in the day if one was willing to go inside these places. But I went to buy THE BOATNIKS with my credit card, and they said I had to spend at least $20 to use the card. I figured I'd come back again some day. Then PeepWorld and every other building on that block (42nd between 6th and Broadway) was razed to the ground.

Yes, you do!!! You, and your little dog Toto, and your children too! You all need to see these things, because to not see these things is unrealistic and shameful! Show off those titties! Show off those...whatever they're called these days when they're on mannequins and stiff when plastered in the way that real men aren't! Show them off, on billboards and in store windows that little children see as they walk to school!
And if you don't like it, maybe your children shouldn't be walking to school! So there!
Ain't advertising wonderful? ;D
:P

Great animation on the shadows, particularly those coming from the windows.

A scoop for you:
Despite the press release, Christina Applegate is holding on to the idea of opening SWEET CHARITY, and has the contract to back her up. The foot break was real, though it was done on a very basic move. Word is she is not what one would call excellent in her song and dance numbers, even fully healthy, so the producers are ready to throw in the real talent, but CA has the contract that says if she can open, she must. There is a real tug o' war going on right now that I am told gives the show a 50-50 chance of opening at all.

Page "10" starring Bo Derek and Dudley Moore.

Der Brucer and I dined very nicely tonight, on corned beef and cabbage.
I was able to get the corned beef thawed in time, and set it to simmering while we got some shopping done.
Our first stop was over at Partner's Bistro, more so that we could chat over libations. A duo was playing, she on keyboards and singing and he on bass guitar and singing sort of. She had a very nice voice, somewhere between Toni Tennille and Helen Reddy. I'm not too sure where his voice was coming from, and that is not a compliment.
Then we went and forraged some cabbage and carrots and taters, and returned home. There's a trick to corned beef, in the New England dinner style. The trick is to take the corned beef out of the water and let it rest, while the vegetables cook. Without the resting period, the corned beef can't slice properly.
It sliced very nicely tonight.
Yum.

I leave the figuring out of the Angus McIndoe split to you, Jose. You are now officially in charge. I shall have a few small bills, some medium henrys, and one large frank. I originally had another name there, but decorum prevailed. Don't you love when decorum prevails? Hold off posting for a second whilst I post the new notes.
