Well, you've read the notes, the notes were blocked, and now it is time for you to post until the act three cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: POSTHASTE!
-
First post after BK.
-
I wonder where Tom was last night. I hope he and Nicky are well.
-
And now, I must be off.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I think I have physical therapy this morning at 9:00. I need to call the office at 8:00 and verify that my referral came through.
-
When I get home - if I go - I will work a bit on the Babes In Toyland notes and do a bit on this choral arrangement.
-
As soon as I get off the bus from therapy, I will vote since the poll is next to the bus stop.
-
TheTOD question ew "Today’s topic of discussion: What are the new PC things that you absolutely loathe and think are completely ridiculous?" -
The issue of needing to say "they" rather than"'he" or "she" - is one I have recently gotten used to.
-
DR Jeanne, I'm so sorry about the water delivery. I hope everything works out satisfactorily today.
-
Thatch enjoyed his 2-year festivities and Annabelle gasps and wheezes like Camille this morning. Stella is quiet as the Sphinx as she demolishes the apartment.
-
HR PUFNSTUF's "Pronouns" sings may need an update, though.
Jack Wild sings "Pronouns"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LnJ5ixcFyU
-
Good morning to everyone I hope everybody has a great day
-
Everybody on Pufnstuf's island being such gifted song and dance people makes as much sense, I guess, as the castaways on Gilligan's Island doing "Hamlet" to music from "Carmen."
-
Or as much sense as Lucy standing totally still and everyone mistaking her for a coat rack.
-
When someone says "That would never happen" like young people behind able to afford that apartment in a 1990s shows like "Friends"
-
they somehow get all in a tizzy when you point out shows from 30years earlier in that TV comedy golden age (or whatever they call it0 where Ethel Merman just goes along with it when Lucu teaches her how to sing are not exactly documentaries. in terms of being "real"
-
But it is nicer that Ethel took time to do school shows for fans!
Lucy Carmichael teaches Ethel Merman to sing like Ethel Merman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu1vAQiYoEU
Vivian Vance is playing to the back row of Radio City Music Hall in that clip. :)
-
Actually, the real Ethel Merman really did volunteer one day a week at St. Luke's Roosevelt, mostly in the gift shop, for a long time.
-
I wondered if I could get us to page 2 early, but it's not happening.
-
Overheard: When Kristin Chenoweth names her show "For the girls" - is there a subtle wink to her gay fan base?
The answer was it's about as subtle as getting hit by a truck. It says it, doesn't imply it.
-
Good morning, all.
-
My company has used they in a singular sense longer than I’ve been there (9+ years). It took some getting used to. It’s second nature now, but I still look first to see if I can use a plural construction or second person.
-
The reason was because “he or she” was cumbersome and “he/she” wasn’t conversational.
-
I have to get ready for day 2 of fun.
-
Just saw a video of a hideous production of The Man Who Came To Dinner where they had the role of Beverly Carleton was played by a woman. Did they not know that Beverley was a man?
-
Good morning
-
I shall ga e to think about the TOD
-
Today is Election Day
-
Vote!
-
I can't be understanding this right : They said for Public Advocate in tpday;s election, New York City, there's the Democratic incumbent and the republican who9 has stated that his goal is to eliminate the job of public advocate. ???
-
TOD:
All of it and everything....but I'm old and I'll be dead before it gets much worse......
-
Finishing the show and review vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
I think we get mail even though it's election day....at least that's what the USPS website says.
Maybe DR JEANNE will get her water.
-

:o

I mailed my ballet yesterday.
-
Good morning!
-
Tuesday morning greetings! I'm home ALL DAY today and tomorrow, making caramel corn both days to contribute to the AAUW Holiday Bazaar. First batch last night went well, but I'm glad to get an earlier start today.
-
TOD - I knew the they-thing was here to stay when I heard it used by a Miami University professor of English.
The one that made me shake my head was when I was given the opportunity to have my preferred pronouns listed on my name badge for the American Library Association annual conference.
-
Physical therapy was an ordeal this morning, but I am very happy I went.
-
My leg was aching so much I came home rather than vote. I'll step out this afternoon and do it.
-
Good morning, all.

TOD
I have what is probably only the vaguest idea of the whole NEW "they" thing. Hell, we've all used "they" informally for years in a general (non-gender-related) sense. It's apparently very specific now in many instances and I wouldn't pretend to grasp the ins and outs of it. But it's not only the "they" stuff. There are other, truly NEW made up pronouns that I've seen reference to, and at this point I'm ignorant as to their meanings and uses.
I'm not against anyone being, or becoming, the person they want or need to be. But I think my own and others' initial negative reactions to the sudden proliferation of new or repurposed pronouns is the apparent REQUIREMENT that the entire world kowtow to the demands of the few, when what most of us would be happy to do is live and let live, and probably make a few mistakes along the way, but to be excused for them and not be turned on in an over-reactive or militant way because of them. It seems that it's suddenly supposed to be "all about them", and I'm amazed at the extent to which our institutions are rushing in to be counted in almost the, um, "me too" sense.

If I may ask, DR Ginny, how did you respond? Or more to the point, do you have any sense of how the majority of attendees responded? And was the question taken seriously for the most part? Ridiculed for the most part? All or none of the above?

Was the role play by a woman...as a woman? ???
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
I love the revisal song "There But For We Go They."
-
Rupert Holmes' "Him" could become "Them."
-
"As Long As They Need Us"
-
“A Hymn to Them”
-
I was shocked to find out how many women get upset over formal invitations addressed to Mr. & Mrs. & their name is not included. I don't care & actually think in an old fashioned way it is kind of charming. In a modern world I understand why it bothers some people but not to the extent people are fuming over it.
-
I know a couple of people who prefer to be referred to as "they." I am very happy to accommodate. However, I have to know about it first. I think it's unreasonable for people who prefer to known as "they" to be upset when someone who doesn't know their preference makes the mistake and refers to them as "he" or "she." How can I know if I've never met them, and no one else has told me??
That kinda irks me. ::)
-
One of the moderators today works for a clothing rental company called Armoire. Clothing rental. You rent two outfits a month. Odd. IMO.
-
Not for me. I guess I’m not a millennial woman.
-
I wouldn't know to call anyone "They" ;D
I think it is silly to expect people to know all the new rules today and to just go with the flow.
-
Regarding being called "They" - isn't there an old joke about a scale saying "One at a time, please.'
-
In the never thought it would happen in a zillion years department - I'm nominated for an Ovation Award for best score for A Carol Christmas. First time ever. The Ovations are easy to game, as a simple look at the theaters and people who are nominated every year will tell you. There aren't a lot of entries in book and score, maybe that's why we got in, but it's nice to finally have a nomination from a group I was resigned to thinking would never do so.

It was optional, DR ChasSmith, so I just did not respond. I noticed a few badges with pronouns on them, but ALA is a pretty tolerant organization and I don't think there would be any (open) ridicule.

Congrats, BK! The score is certainly deserving of awards (or at least the nominations)! :D
-
PAGE THREE DANCE!!
-
Congratulations on the nomination, BK. The score is lovely. It hope it wins.
-
Ernest J. Gaines has died. I got to meet him once when he had a reading here in San Antonio. I treasure my autographed copy of A Lesson in Dying. Also loved The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.

Great news on the nomination, BK!!!
-
I saw this on CBS This Morning before I left for therapy. It's quite fascinating.

I read Lesson and A Gathering of Old Men. I only saw the excellent Pittman film & didn't read it.

I saw the headline on the dog & hadn't read it yet. I could not tell what the words were saying that she tapped on ;D

They showed the dog tapping on the words "look," "come," and "outside."

What is this page three malarkey?
-
Finished a new set of liner notes and decided which two thing we're releasing this week - one show title, and one film-related title, so covering both bases, as they say. The show title is especially gratifying - something I produced that's been OOP for many years now. It will be great to have it back in the catalogue.

Congrats. It's a terrific score and very, very, worthy of this. Vibes that you win, as well.

TOD:
I find this overuse of "they" very silly. Gender fluidity is challenging language norms to be sure, but I would think there's a better way to handle it.
-
My bottled water arrived. It was not delivered to my door, as requested, but left at the bottom of the stairs. One of my "males"--my neighbor David--was kind enough to bring it upstairs. My usual male--my neighbor Zen--is in the Philippines currently. He's also in his seventies and I avoid asking him for help with anything heavy. Brian, my cleaning guy, also qualifies as one of my males, but he isn't here today.
-
In the Amazon customer service survey I did mention that USPS may not be the best choice for heavy packages.
-
I booked my surgery for January. It's a load off, because I have no end of stuff to catch up on and really would rather not have to deal with 4-5 days of downtime until after the holidays.
-
I mailed my ballet yesterday.
Did you? I understand "male ballet", but I don't think that's what you meant. ;)
-
I had my car washed. The buzz around here is, "Do you think it's safe to wash my car?" Our cars are all filthy. Let's hope they stay clean for a while--for many reasons.
-
TTFN.
-
I must be off. I'm going down to Centralia to the Evergreen Playhouse to get a headshot for their season. I'm in Mamma Mia!...which won't actually go up until next May or June. But they want headshots now, so I'll get one.
Be back later.
-
I saw the headline on the dog & hadn't read it yet. I could not tell what the words were saying that she tapped on ;D
They showed the dog tapping on the words "look," "come," and "outside."
I saw what they were doing. I was under the impression when tapping on it the board then said the words. That is what I couldn't hear/understand.

I am glad you have some "males" to assist you. The use of males fits the conversation today.

Vibes the cars stay clean for the most important reasons.

Good evening.

Y.T.O.D.
I have never seen any Japanese monster movies. Not a one. I believe I saw a trailer for RODAN at the Rialto Theatre in downtown. I believe I saw it when I went to see, either DARBY O’GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE or MR. SARDONICUS.
-
I guess the Proctor Theatre (in my neighborhood) must nnot have shown any Japanese monster movies, or I would have certainly seen one. I went almost every Friday night.
-
T.O.D.
I suppose the one that troubles me is the referring to someone as their, they, or them. I don’t have a problem if that is what they prefer, but I just feel uncomfortable knowing how to use them. One of the people at the Lakewood box office prefers those terms, but how are people suppose to know that by just meeting them. I know I worry about the strangest things.
-
Like when do use Chicagoland, instead of Chicago.
-
You see, life is becoming so complicated for a semi-senile old man (or they).
-
I finally got off my duff and took my ballot to the drop-off box. I kept putting off this time, because I haven’t lived in Puyallup long enough to know who to vote for.
-
I need not have worried, because almost the entire ballot was state measures and referendums.
-
By next year’s election, I will positively know which candidates I want to support.
-
In fact, I may do something I have never done before; and that is to vote strictly by party lines.
-
Of course, by next November we may have to have armed guards at the polling places.
-
Luckily, Washington has 100% mail-in voting. And now, they even pay the postage!
-
I wonder where everyone is this evening?
-
Perhaps everyone is watching THE LITTLE MERMAID.
-
I am recording it, so that I can watch NCIS and FBI.
-
Then I will ask around and see if the MERMAID is worth watching.
-
This recording thing is great, but I can’t transfer anything to a DVD.
-
So, I guess George will have to remain the great savior of missed programs.
-
Or everyone can just drop by my condo and we can watch stuff that I recorded.
-
Or I will drag out some of my plays or musicals of which I have “educational” copies.
-
Well, it is just about time for the Tournament of Champions on JEOPARDY.
-
Hopefully, someone will come along and most some more.
-
I mailed my ballet yesterday.
I had no idea you were a choreographer!
-
TOD - I knew the they-thing was here to stay when I heard it used by a Miami University professor of English.
The one that made me shake my head was when I was given the opportunity to have my preferred pronouns listed on my name badge for the American Library Association annual conference.
I don't understand about the preferred pronouns thing.. certainly hen I am talking to you the only pronouns I would be using to refer to you would be "you" or possibly "us" or "we" all non gender pronouns. Unless I am going to be talking or writing about you in a public forum why do I need to know if you are he/she/they or whatever else I am too unwoke to know about?
-
my daughter ha been referring to one of her friends as "they" for years now. It confused the heck out of me since I kept thinking she was talking about multiple people
-
Congratulations, BK ,on your nomination
-
my body is aching and wracked with pain
-
What if we call everyone "Bitch" and those who aren't bitches at all certainly know it and will as non-bitches take the greeting as warm and with great humor.
-
I went to vote and tripped over some uneven payment in the unlit sidewalk
-
I went down like a ton of bricks but mange to get my hands down.
-
I actually just laid there on the ground for a moment, totally stunned by the shock and the pain
-
my body is aching and wracked with pain
Vibes for less pain by tomorrow.
-
a young woman saw me go down and ran across the parking lot to help me up and one of the poll workers also saw me go down through the open door to the polling place and she ran over and between the two of them they got me up
-
my palms were scraped and bloody and a small pebble was embedded in a cut in my hand.
my left leg and hip hurt so badly that they had to support me a few minutes and help me to a chair
-
i felt a liitle better after sitting for a few minutes and one of the women ad some wet wipes in her purse and gave me one to clean my hands
-
i voted and limped back to my car
-
when i got home i took off my trousers to assess the damage
-
i somehow managed to cut open my left knee without tearing my jeans (which I am pleased about as they are relatively new jeans)
-
I'm not pleased about the cut knee, just about the untorn jeans
-
its been about 6 hours and two advil since the fall and my whole left leg from ankle to hip is still aching as is my lower spine, left arm and shoulder and both hands and wrists
-
i guess m lucky i didnt break anything
-
Ginny I am terribly afraid that if I were invited to write my preferred pronouns on a name tag I would be tempted beyong resistance to write "your most gracious highness"
-
that should get me tossed out of the conference pretty quickly
-

;D I too am confused.

Ditto though I fear you will hurt more tomorrow.

Very lucky.

Long day. And it ain’t over.
-
The sponsors of the event took a bunch of us to dinner tonight. Nine course Spanish dinner presented like tapas. Mostly excellent. In a historic hotel that presidents from T. Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter stayed at.
-
Then we returned to the hotel where they bought us a drink.
-
I shall miss being treated nicely.
-
We have abused they and them for generations now. It predates rules of English grammar.
-
I went to Sears. They had the hoe I wanted.
I shopped at Costco. They had a new liquor section.
I hate the government. They haven’t a clue.
-

I think I would write those sentences using "It" rather than "they" .... but I'm an oddball...
-
Good evening.
-
Event 1 complete.
-
I'm so sorry to hear about your fall, Vixmom. I hope everything feels better by morning.
-
Geez, when did we get old enough to get hurt falling from a standing position? We weren't when we all met here. We've all known each other a long time, haven't we?

PAGE SIX "I VOTED" STICKER DANCE!!
-
I finally got off my duff and took my ballot to the drop-off box. I kept putting off this time, because I haven’t lived in Puyallup long enough to know who to vote for.
Tonight, I barely got my ballot dropped off in time!
-
I couldn't find it when I came home at lunch time. :o
-
Then I stopped at home again after work, but before I left for Centralia to get the headshot taken, and still couldn't find it.
-
Then after the headshot, I went back to work (it was after hours and I had to disarm the alarm).
-
I looked everywhere again, and it really wasn't there, so I just decided to give up and went home. :-\
-
THEN I found it up in my bedroom...where I had looked at least three times before!
-
I hate it when that happens.
-
I quickly filled it out, drove to the drop box (fortunately, it's only a block away), and got it turned in with about ten minutes to spare!
-
Whew!! :D
-
Luckily, Washington has 100% mail-in voting. And now, they even pay the postage!
I know. It's great! Except that you don't get an "I Voted" sticker with your ballot.
-
I shall miss being treated nicely.
I can imagine. It sounds like someone planned a very nice evening .
-
I started to write they instead of someone and rethought that.
-
Geez, when did we get old enough to get hurt falling from a standing position? We weren't when we all met here. We've all known each other a long time, haven't we?
So true 😊

Whew.

I know, right??
-
I misplaced mine yesterday. After about 10 minutes of searching I found it, filled it out and dropped it in the mailbox.
-
Perhaps everyone is watching THE LITTLE MERMAID.
Darn! I totally forgot! I didn't even remember to set my DVR. >:(
-
Oh, oh. I have 5 books checked out I need to hurry up and read.
-
I haven't read at all today.
-
Before I leave....
-
I did find that THE LITTLE MERMAID is going to be rebroadcast on Saturday on another channel, but not in hi-def. It'll be better than nothing, though. I wonder if it'll be on On Demand.
-
So, I guess George will have to remain the great savior of missed programs.
;D I'll record the rebroadcast. It'll still look good on a standard-def DVD.
-
COMPLETE HEALING VIBES TO DR VIXMOM!
-
'night.
-
Good night, Jane.
