Title: THE PERPETUAL YAWN
Post by: bk on March 20, 2005, 10:37:07 PM
Well, you've read the notes, you've yawned perpetually, and now it is time for you to perpetually post until the perpetually yawning cows come home.

And the word of the day is: PUGNACIOUS!

I must now toddle off to the bedroom environment.  It will be nice to have my comfy pillow 'neath my head.

I think I may have a bit more time to post this week. I am busy preparing for my audition for the School of Music here at Ball State. I have a last minute audition piece change to take care of in the morning because a certain book went missing. Our music library has the piece I wanted to use, but unfortunately only with orchestra when I need the piano reduction. I am not worried about knowing th music as my nerves getting in the way of confidence. That has always been my biggest problem, but I suppose the best way to get over your fears is to just face them head on.

I have also finally gotten the pictures from the production of Godspell I was in, so I may just share a few of those with you in the next few minutes.

But first let me say...

"The pugnacious pug's nascent fondness for chewing on shoes led its owner to enroll him in obedience classes."

(That didn't work out as well as I wanted it to but I can live with it. I am sure derB and SWW can relate.)

Good Morning!

Hmmm... I sort of routinely do all-nighters every now and then, so staying up 48 hours is not too big a deal for me.  I almost did 72 hours straight once, but I eventually forced myself to go to bed and shut my eyes.  Once I got the "challenge" inside my head to stay up for three days in a row...  So, I guess the longest I've stayed up has been about 60-62 hours.

I had a friend who used to do the fishing boat and oil rig "circuit" up in the Alaska waters.  The usual schedule was one week(!) on - awake - and then they would get three to four days off in a row.  WOW!  And then there are those poor doctors in training..

The longest I've ever stayed up is probably around thirty-six or so hours.

Usually it was closing a show one night and driving through the night and staying up the following day to get to it.  Larry Drake and I did a drive like that once from Dallas, Texas to Charlotte, North Carolina...we both got very giddy and by about three o'clock the next afternoon we were a regular Laurel & Hardy.  Possibly, it was our own demented, sleep-deprived minds, but we thought we were a mini-Algonquin Round Table.

I've pulled lots of twenty-four hour all-nighters on writing deadlines.  Or weeks where I went with only two or three hours asleep at night.

Usually, when The Lovely Wife and I are going to London, I sleep badly the night before getting maybe 3-4 hours, get up earlier do all the stuff I've got to do before the flight leaves that evening usually between 5-7, then ten and a half hours on the plane, another hour into London before we're at our flat...and we usually try to stay up until about 11:00pm London time.  That's probably 36, I might get a couple hours fitful sleep on the plane.  Often we take in a show that first night.

As I get older that all-nighter stuff gets to be a lot less fun and less easy to do.

Good morning, all!  I crashed rather early last night as well.  I'm having some coffee and listening to the CD, "The Music of Bruce Kimmel," which I input last night to burn some discs for DRs Michael Shayne and Rodzinski.  When I get to the recording office, I have to arrange my social calendar for the week.  I did speak to DRDanise around 8:00 last night; she subwayed solo, and I'm quite proud of her adventurous streak.

Last year, when I was working on Anna Bergman's act, I had a run of several days with no sleep, along with a week of sleep limited to 3-5 hours a night.  It was not a good time between the urge to lie down, the constant fatigue, and the jumpy nerves about the deadline.  Oy!

DR Joey, thanks for the GODSPELL photos.

DRs, thanks for all the wonderful shots from the weekend.  I think I'll keep my current curmudgeon photo!

DRvixmom, since I've always been the oldest brother in my family, I'd be happy to be yours as well.

Well, that lovely picture of Danise and me from yesterday does not make me look PUGNACIOUS (Combative in nature; belligerent) for which I am glad!

In the Beating a Dead Horse Department, we really did have a wonderful weekend, from the Friday reading to the Sunday Brunch with Larry and Michael. It all came together beautifully. Anthony was very pleased to meet so many of the fine people I talk about each day.

And now I must get back to work. Debra/Vixmom I'll pm you the information about Anthony's show in April/May. Congrats to the Vixter on getting cast. When the bug bites early it usually becomes a lifelong affliction.

Later.

Good Morning all!

As for the TOD, I cannot go very long without my sleep. I think I can make it maybe 24 hours at the most before my body shuts down and I crash no matter where I am. I also have the tendency to sleep walk when going to bed sleep deprived so I try not to do it too often. One day, my roomates came downstairs to find me asleep on the couch with the oven turned up to broil, the fridge standing wide open, and the water in the sink running full blast. I recall dreaming I was cooking.

I didn't get but maybe 2 hours sleep last night so as long as I don't lay down I'll be fine. I know I will crash as soon as I am done with classes though.

If I remember correctly (IIRC) the longest I ever went without sleep was about 36 hours during my college days. Pulled an all nighter to get a project done and then went to class and almost collapsed. I am not good when I am sleep deprived. I haven't done anything similar since.

I was working an overnight shift at a place in Athens, GA, where people called to activate their credit cards. Morning came and my  replacement did not show up, and I kept working. Then I was like, what is the record for the longest shift ever here? It was 17 hours, so I said I was going to do a 24-hour shift. Which I did.

WhenI worked at UPS ('77 - 84) I pulled several 24 hour shifts and one really memorable 30 hour one... (I was management and we had awildcat strike going on....I shudder just thinking about it)

In college I had a couple of days where I went to school all day, went to work until 1 or so and then came home, did a report, showered and headed back to work..

Nowadays making it through  the Jon Stewart show without falling asleep in the recliner is a major accomplishment

In regard to the question last night about "I Have Dreamed" in the film of THE KING AND I, the song is on the soundtrack album, but I believe the number was cut from the finished film. It's my favorite song in THE KING AND I, so I think I'm remembering correctly, but I must admit I haven't watched the film in a long time. I think that song, "My Lord and Master," and "Shall I Tell You What I Think of You?" were all filmed and later cut.

I stayed awake for 24 hours once in my life - the day and night of the senior class play in high school. But I have never been able to function without sleep, so I never once in my life pulled an all-nighter in college as so many friends did. Actually, I never felt the need to. Pollyanna as it may sound, I kept up with the work each day, and when the time for studying for quizzes and exams came around, a few hours of studying in the library after dinner was all I needed to do to feel prepared.

The review for VIRGINIA WOOLF in Variety today was decidedly mixed. Said both Turner and Irwin had moments of insight and effectiveness, but that both weren't aggressive enough in their powerful moments.

Here's the last paragraph of David Rooney's review which I think bk will find especially interesting:

"The playwright's revised script contains some questionable decisions, jettisoning the end-of-act-two exchange in which George rehearses his coup de grace with Honey, yet retaining Martha's meandering monologue at the start of act three, here one of Turner's weaker moments. As sharp and brilliantly structured as the writing is the erratic electricity of this production makes one appreciate even more the intelligent economies of Ernest Lehman's screenplay for the 1966 Mike Nichols movie, not to mention the raw, violent combustibility of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor as George and Martha."

VIXMOM - DRMATTH is correct - "I Have Dreamed" is on the K&I soundtrack album.  And it was cut from the movie.  It is sung by Lady Thiang.  I got a much better understanding of that character by watching the Irene Dunne version called ANNA & THE KING, which is a terrific movie.  If you haven't seen it, give it a rent.  Too bad it's not in color because the costumes are beautiful.

Such photos from NYC - such faces - such food.

This show has always been a favorite of mine. I was in a church production of this when I was a sphmore or juinor in high school, as part of a spaghetti dinner fund raiser ... although in those less sophisticated days, and in the absence of any real musicians,  we sang to the record... Didn't the tv Anna and the King star BK's beloved Samantha Eggar, or am I misremembering that?

I started watching the new Brigadoon a couple of days ago.  I've never seen it.  I am actually enjoying it more than I thought I would.  But, oy, that first outtake is pretty bad.  Is the girl supposed to be blind?  Suddenly I thought she was pre-channeling Elizabeth Hartman in A Patch of Blue!   And why does the underscoring stop just for her intercuts?  Very strange.

The Tigard Pops Choir concert was a smashing success.  This Choir, which is open to the public and does not require an audition, is really quite spectacularly wonderful.  We did my original arrangements of everything from "Rhythm of Life" to Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" (immortalized a few years ago by Steve and Eydie, I kid you not).

I've stayed up for several days running back in my 20s.  Especially when I was living in SF--we'd go for days without sleeping, don't ask me why.

From what has been posted here, it seems the Variety reviewer and I are pretty much on the same page.  As I wrote, Mr. Irwin and Miss Turner do have their moments but they lack the vocal power for the big moments.  And I detest the cuts, especially the end of act two.
Title: Re:THE PERPETUAL YAWN

Yes, Samantha Eggar played Anna on the TV series. I got into an argument with someone on another forum when I casually mentioned that Eggar was dubbed in DOCTOR DOLITTLE, and they argued back that it HAD to have been Eggar doing her own singing because she sang for herself on ANNA AND THE KING. I mentioned that ANNA AND THE KING was not a musical and that to my recollection, Eggar did no singing in the sitcom.

Joey!! Your show looks great - I would love to see it. The productions I did (some of them with Bruce Kimmel) in high school were some of the most fulfilling and complete performances of my whole career. Treasure this time, and keep it close to your heart - remember what this feels like, during all the less-than-wonderful times that may come up in the road ahead of you. Let this blissful time sustain you. Never forget who you are right at this moment. Listen to this message from your inmost heart and let it drown out others' best intentions for you.

End o' sermon...

Thanks for the pictures!!! And thanks, my Delaware brothers, for the pix and story of the adoptions. Oh, puppies...

I slept, finally, last night. What a long ten days this has been! Oh, day off!!! My voice is shredded. I am reminded of the old days, when we all lived on Decadron and Medrol (steroids to take the swelling down) to combat 8 shows a week. OY!!

And a very impressionable film for an eight year old! My Mother took me to see it (she loved Rex Harrison) and I had nightmares recalling the scene where Anna is in her house and the slave girl is being burnt at the stake outside and Anna closes the shutters to keep out the smoke!

And the next year I was trotted off to The Foxes of Harrow (well it could have been worse - "The Little Foxes" is no bedstime story either)

The floor people still haven't actually come into the home environment.  Which means that if the wall man (who is helping the floor men) hadn't gotten here at ten to eight I could have slept another half-hour.  But, they won't be coming that early the next two days, so that's good.  I had to get a little uppity this morning with the contractor because the story started changing as to what was going to be happening in the room.  Happily, I take notes and I just pulled out the sheet of paper and said, "No, that is not what was said, this is what was said."  Everything's fine now.  Apparently, all the actual work gets done today (and it doesn't take all that long) - then they coat the boards with some sort of varnish.  Then they add more varnish tomorrow and Wednesday and then they put the whole thing back the way it was.

And of course as DRMBARNUM reminds me, tomorrow a few more MGM Midnight Movies on sale ONLY at Best Buy will be released, including FIREBALL 500 and THUNDER ALLEY - two stock car racing movies featuring Miss Annette Funicello and Fabian.

The heavy dresser has been moved to the book room, and, as I requested, none of the stereo equipment or TV wires had to be undone, just the main power strip.  And, best of all, the floor will be done tomorrow, and by tomorrow evening all will be back the way it was.  Hoo and ray.

The longest I've probably stayed up was in college...40 hours.  Every year now (well, for the last five, this year will be the sixth), I've been involved in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.  Teams raise money and in June, they walk around a track for 24 hours.  Each person doesn't have to walk for all 24 hours (although there are usually three or four people that have), but one person from each team should be walking on the track at all times.  Anyway, I usually stay up between 35 and 38 hours.  I can't remember if I've stayed up longer than that for the Relay. ;D

I wonder sometimes if the critics start being a little kinder in their assessments in a theatrical season where nothing much has done outstandingly. After all, plays need to open for them to have jobs. Just wondering . . . .

BTW, the critical judgments on SPAMALOT were mixed to positive, sounds about like what DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS got, but in terms of box-office, SPAMALOT has been doing bonanza business.

But the public sometimes doesn't care what the critics say. In the same article that was detailing the $2 million that SPAMALOT wrapped the day after it opened (and the $18-20 million it has in advanced sales), they revealed that WICKED now has advanced sales of $33 million, over a year after opening and even after not winning the Best Musical Tony.

I don't know for sure, but usually the stars on a big musical are asked to sign for a year from the first public performance. I would think they should be around through the end of this calendar year. If I see anything definite, though, I'll post it here.

Before I leave-from last night.

It is always nice to see Larry’s face and the new photo would be nice as an avatar, but I’m very fond of the old one.  I agree with Vixmom, the one of Larry with Danise is wonderful.  It could also be Danise’s new avatar.

The picture of Danise and Ben is great.

Rodzinski and the gal are a very cute couple.  I hope to meet you both in October.

And we finally get to see Joe-nice picture.  I agree with Vixmom on the new avatar for WFO.

Now I must getting going before I’m late-loved all the pics. :)

Good Morning Afternoon!

Like DR PennyO, I did indeed sleep last night too.  I tried to get up at 8:30.  Then I tried again at 10:00.  Then again at 10:30.  Then 11:15.  Finally, about an hour ago, around 12:30, I put my feet on the floor and got out of bed.

Whew!

I guess the past week or so caught up with me.  Which isn't really much of a surprise, I had just sort of forgotten how opening weeks of shows can take it out of a person/me.

As for the rest of the day, I do need to get my laundry done, which I will attend to shortly - and, hopefully, being mid-afternoon on a Monday, there won't be anyone at the lavanderia.

But before I head out, I shall check in with various DRs via phone to see what's up.

*And at least being in the City That Never Sleeps, getting up past Noon isn't late - or early for that matter - at all.

Ben, indeed sad news about the great Bobby Short.  I was introduced to him in college by my theatre professor Charles Dickens (yes, his real name) and he became one of the linch-pin performers in my collection of the great American (and beyond) Songbook.  I discovered a great many hitherto unknown songs by Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers & Hart, Noel Coward, and so many others that I was not aware of.  He was very instrumental in my musical history and appreciation education.

What a sad title!!!  Is it possible Baxter is a permanent additon?  He seems to be your favorite  (gosh, I hope the other  dogs aren't reading this!!)
Well...

I had a soft spot in my heart for Benny from the first moment I saw him, with that two-tone nose and the mange on his forehead.  He looked so silly and helpless at the same time.

But der B and I know we can't keep them.  For one thing, his son-in-law makes disparaging remarks every time another dog gets added to the household, and it's easier finding new homes for the dogs than it is finding a new son-in-law.  (Particularly since we like the SIL better than the daughter!   :o)

More importantly, we can get stretched too thin if we aren't careful.  When we were fostering Zeus, it was difficult to spread our attention among six dogs.  We're spread thin again now, with Peggy and Baxter added to the mix (although Fletcher "adopting" Bax and playing with Peggy helps a lot).

So we've decided the best thing to do is to love the dogs we take in, give them the best home possible while they're here and bolster their self-confidence, and then find good homes for them, feeling good about having been that intermediary step.

And, in the case of Peggy and her pups, these were dogs that the SPCA was going to slaughter put down destroy slaughter if they weren't picked up that day.  We had a very short time-window pick them up; Diane, our Animal Rescue contact, was in panic mode until she got ahold of us.

If we have a problem with the Animal Rescue groups, it is that they're very good at getting the animals (cats, too), but not adept at finding new homes.  Part of this is due to a paranoia about what kinds of homes the animals get place in; the tales of people getting animals simply to torture them, use them as bait for dog fights and other abuses are, unfortunately, true.  But this can be countered by getting out there and meeting with the adopting families, like der B and I were able to do for Benny and his new family.  Generally we can tell from a short visit whether a home is appropriate or not, by how the people treat each other and react to strangers (not that we're all that strange...well... ::)

But this brings up the second level of the problem, in that der B and I are willing to invest the time to help.  Even the people who have been doing this for some time have other things to take care of in their lives.  (I'm certain DR Laura will agree on this point.)  We're lucky, that we have the time to invest as well as the willingness.

So, Peggy and Baxter will be with us for a while yet, but no, we won't keep them if we can find them homes.  And there are so many other dogs who need help.

Now, if we could only hook up with someone who has this great formula for winning at the casino, like in Lucky Stiff!

Well, they'd have to actually have a working brain to come up with better.  And what dish could they serve?  The best they can do is hurl the same old thing or to criticize that which they haven't even bothered to more than glance at.  "No wonder blank blank fired him."  Well, I hate to tell ya, but blank blank made a slight error in judgment, or so it would seem given their current status.

Slight error??  That's the understatement of the year! ;)

Now this is PRICELESS!!

This was sent by a friend who noted that a group of Syrians decided to hold an anti-American rally.  Since they couldn't read and write English for their protest signs, they found an English-speaker to "translate" their anti-American slogans for them.  They apparently made the mistake of asking the wrong guy to help them and he took matters into his own hands.

VIXMOM - DRMATTH is correct - "I Have Dreamed" is on the K&I soundtrack album.  And it was cut from the movie.  It is sung by Lady Thiang.

The song is sung by Tuptim and Lun Tha.

Apologies if I have missed someone else's correction.

And after dinner, DR Rodzinksi and I will be meeting someplace in Siberia for a pint, mug, cup, flask, falgon, etc. of something or other.

Got get ready... I don't want to stand DR elmore up.

I just remembered that I saw a wonderful production of WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF with Diana Rigg as Martha and David Suchet (Poirot) as George.  Quite wonderful!

Last week, I got an email from a hometown monthly publication in my hometown of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, and they want to do an in-depth profile on me.  The interviewer had a really interesting set of questions, had done his homework on the internet and I think some other places...I sent ten pages of answers to his questions.   Quite fun!

MattH, do you have any idea how long Messers Hyde-Pierce, Azzaria & Curry are contracted to stay with the show?  I'd hate to get tickets for the week after the replacements took over.....

Yep it is generally a year, but I know Azzaria is going to take a leave of absence to work on a film he is directing and starring in. He wil be back though. I'll get more info for you when I come back. I have a meeting to go to right now.

I'm still VERY tired.  I'm going to sit on my couch now.  I've been entering in the fixes and little changes all day and I'm going blind.  Interestingly, I don't end up doing a considerable number of them, because once I think about it I frequently realize that I'm not bettering something, or I'm not giving the reader enough credit, or they just don't feel right.

Greetings from SW Ohio.  I am home after the glorious New York weekend.  Had a great time at Penny's show and the partay afterward and will post a couple of photos later.

Sunday, niece Laura and I met my Michigan friend Doug for brunch at Josephina's (Larry & Jose, you were right!), then picked up our tickets for the Illinois State U Wind Symphony concert at Alice Tully Hall.  We had a couple of hours to spend in the Lincoln Center area and happened across a small cinema that was showing the Annette Bening movie Being Julia.  It fit nicely into our timeframe and got us in out of the rain.  Loved the movie, in which the actress character has many of the same food sentiments as Miriam Rosen/Abigail Paine.

The concert was unbelievably wonderful.  It was the first time I'd seen Laura's guy Steve conduct.  It was the NY premier of 3 pieces and all 3 composers were in attendance.  They had a good sized house, which included a woman who sat dead center and belched (loudly) at almost every quiet part  :P

There was a very festive partay at Cafe Fiorello after the concert, where   I had a heavenly salmon dinner and an exquisite cheesecake dessert.

I spent today groggy at my desk, reviving myself after the great weekend. It's fun being an acolyte ;)

And now, I must depart as Anthony needs the computer.

Ben - Before you go, I wanted to tell you that I listened to your reviews on my drive from the Cleveland airport today.  Thank you so much.

Your comments about the show that was signed for the hearing-impaired reminded me of a Cats story.  When our son was little (3 or so) he was transfixed with that music and we had to play the cassettes whenever we were in the car.  It got to the point where we'd turn off the front speakers so only he could hear it!  Anyway, when the show came to Cincinnati's Aronoff Center when Rob was older, we got these great seats that I eventually realized had been set aside for the hearing impaired and hadn't been requested by the (late) time I called.  I spent the whole time watching the signers, since I'd already seen it a couple of times.

Well Arnold Brockman and I attended the same show tonight. A wonderful singer with a terrific voice named Phillip Myers. A southern Baptist boy from Tennessee. His wide ranging material from Gospel to Broadway to American Traditional was varied and kept the show entertaining.  He has opened for Ray Charles, Elton John and Celine Dione among others and his show was very slick and well oiled. This being a cabaret series I felt that it did not have a cabaret mentality, but more of the Vegas feel. Although there is nothing wrong with the Vegas approach I like the more informality and spontanity of the cabaret style. I do recommend him to anyone who enjoys a evening worth of entertainment of electic songs.

Good Evening!

I'm camped out again in my corner of Cafe Jou Jou on 168th.  I just downloaded some major updates for some of my computer programs.

BK - Did you Mac guy set up your computer to automatically download the system updates?  A new security patch has recently been released.

So far, I've had a cup of very good coffee, and a semi-good slice of a Chunky Banana Loaf with Chocolate Glaze.  It would have been a "full-good" if I had had it when earlier in the day, when it was fresher.  But still good nonetheless - especially for a second dessert of the evening.  ;)

Well, there was yet one more mini-H/K dinner earlier tonight.  I made it to Artie's on time, and supped with DRs elmore, Danise and Rodzinski.

As much as we tried to get DR Danise to order some true NY Deli food, she - and DR Rodzinksi - ended up ordering the "Southern Fried Chicken" plate.  However, DR Danise, did order some egg barley for her side dish, and she proclaimed the NY-style Southern Fried Chicken very good.  DR Rodzinksi had to send one piece of chicken back for some further cooking since it was a bit cold on the inside.  But, when the replacement piece of chicken was deilivered, he did get a fresh supply of french fries and mashed potatoes.

DR elmore had the stuffed cabbage appetizer, matzoh ball soup, and the potato cupcakes.  I also had the stuffed cabbage appetizer, as well as something called a "knishpuppy", which is an Artie's creation.  It's a hot dog baked in a potato knish.  Of course, it came with a side of french fries.  Let's just say the American Potato Council could have been a sponsor of our meal tonight.  ;)

-And, all in all, a very tasty meal.  Then for dessert, DR Danise had a Black & White Cookie; DR emlore the rice pudding (which I will have to come back for someday - the 'knife-full' I had tonight was quite yummy); DR Rodzinksi had the Blueberry Cheesecake with whipped cream (we told him that the whipped cream would make you very happy, BK); and I had a raspberry hamantaschen.  Again, all quite good.

And that's the food report for tonight.  :)

We had a great time talking about the weekend and other various and sundried topics.  Once DR Danise gets back home - and gets a chance to rest and recover from this trip - I'm sure she'll post all the wonderful detail - and pictures(!) - from her trip this time.  She really did have a good time, and it was great finally getting to meet her.  And she really learned a good chunk of the Isle of Manhattan over the past few days.  Next time, I'm sure she'll be helping out people on the subways who are standing with maps in hand and quizzical looks on their faces.

I hope you/she found the bakery she had spotted earlier in the day - she wanted to stock up on some goodies to take back with here on the plane.  And safe travels too!  Hopefully, by tomorrow night, she'll be posting again from home.

After dinner, DR Rodzinski and I hopped onto the 1, and headed back up to Siberia.  After walking through a very cool tunnel - pictures were taken (which I will post once they get developed and scanned) - we walked up a few blocks, then up a set of stairs(!), and made our way to a very cozy bar.  I believe it was called The Monkey Bar.

Again, more sparkling conversation.  And we also commented on the video screen which only showed the artist and label information of the song playing at the time - no video - and it was a pretty nice flat screen TV.  Of course, the only time "video" was shown, was when commercials came on - including one for that very scary "remake" of "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner"?  -And one for those Cadbury Cream Eggs.  Cute bunnies.

After finishing our adult beverages, we headed back out.  Ever the gentleman, DR Rodzinksi walked me to the corner.  ;)  -Then he headed his way, and I headed mine - after I finally realized which was which.  It took me a few minutes to get my bearings, but I made it back to the apartment in no time, and now I'm here at Jou Jou a-posting away...

Are we having a slow news day here at haineshisway.com?

Vixmom, I shall ask Donald about doing some CDs of our most popular shows.

Antonia - excellent, because, being senile, I couldn't recall the name.  I instantly liked Antonia.  I think she was a bit confounded by my Three Stooges reference, but she seems really bright and like a fun person - AND she sings.

I'm taking a Jacuzzi as soon as it warms up.

The radio show, which will air starting on Sunday, is really fun.  I read a brief excerpt from the book, we played all the songs from the book, plus a bunch of other songs from musicals which were playing in 1969, the year the book is set in. I even talked a tiny bit about the new book - no worries, though - I didn't give anything away and I didn't reveal its title.  Those details will be coming soon.

The place opens at 7:00AM and closes when they sell out of donuts for the day.

Can you see the size of those donuts!!!

C'est formidable!

They sell them at various places throughout the city (Dean & DeLuca, Balducci's, etc.), but the ones sold at the "plant" are usually still warm!!

And here's a sample listing of their seasonal - and all natural - flavors:

Vanilla-Bean
Valrhona-Chocolate
Chocolate-Mocha
Orange
Apple-Cinnamon
Pecan
Blueberry
Apricot
Pistachio
Ginger
Poppy Seed
Malted-Milk
Blueberry
Pumpkin
Lime
Strawberry
Toasted-Almond
Raspberry
Rosewater (with fresh rose petals)
Walnuts
Powdered Maple Sugar
Banana with Pecan
Cherry
Coconut
Yankee Donut with blueberry pin stripes

I'm hoping they have the Malted Milk, Pistachio and Orange varieties in tomorrow. :)  But the Valrhona Chocolate ones are amazing too!  And the Coconut.  And the Ginger.  And the Rosewater.  And sometimes they even have Gold-Leafed Ones!

Hmm... Maybe I'll just walk up the East Side tomorrow.  Donuts in hand.  Hmm...

Well, let's see. I finally got around to watching the second disc of EASTER PARADE, and imagine my astonishment that "Mister Monotony" had been anamorphically enhanced! Dn't know why, but I was certainly impressed with the clean-up that had been done on this. Compared to the cut number on the EASTER PARADE and THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT III laserdiscs (different cuts), it looked fabulous. And, of course, the DVD gives us 20 minutes worth of takes done in both medium shot and long shot. Still can't believe it was presented in anamorphic "pillarbox" motif.

As for BRIGADOON, obvious care was taken on the remastering for DVD so that the color would not be overly muddy or presented with too much blooming (as the laserdisc and first DVD were). However, I have to say I think I prefer the sound mix on the last DVD to this one. This one seemed a bit less directional and more front heavy. Still, it looked beautiful.

Had a busy night assembling a desk for the Secretary here. It will be quite  suprise for her when she comes in on Wednesday! It took five of us 3 hours to move everything (no easy task) and then subsequently assemble the new desk for her. This one I must say is much nicer and makes the dining room of the house feel much less crowded. After having had to move everything, we are going to suggest that she downsize the number of doodads she has on her desk. (Old paperwork, etc.)

Well I am off too bed as I have an 8 AM class. I am sure the devil must have dreamt up something that early. Goodnight!

Good Evening! Good Morning!

Back at the apartment...

Yes, it definitely does feel like winter outside again.  But since today is/was the first day of Spring...

:)

I'm still deciding whether or not to see a show tomorrow night.  I have three options, and I'm not really keen on any of them.  -And I'm just not in a show-seeing mode/mood right now.  However, what I may end up doing is getting a Family Circle or Standing Room ticket for whatever is at the Metropolitan Opera tomorrow night.   It's been ages since I've been in there - and seen an opera - so...  Or I might end up at a movie.

Or I could still be eating my way up the East Side of Manhattan.  ;)

How many donuts does it take to make it up the East Side?

OH!  And if I am on the East Side, I guess I could also drop off a Birthday Card at Mr. Stephen Joshua Sondheim's brownstone.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Sondheim!

Has Ann caught up?

I guess I'll wait until midnight to post the new notes.  I'll still get nine hours if I go right to bed.

I have caught up.  I got bad news about the job I was hoping for...at least, I didn't get good news.  They said they would call Friday or Monday, and Monday is now over and no call has come.  Needless to say, this does not please me one little bit.  I'm so tired of waiting and hoping and being disappointed...boo, I say.
