Well, you've read the notes, the notes killed time and the English language, and now it is time for you to post until the killing time cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DERACINATE!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't remember. ::)
-
Bruce, thanks for your song. It was like you were singing directly to me and I really needed it. Thanks again.
-
Bruce, thanks for your song. It was like you were singing directly to me and I really needed it. Thanks again.
I'm so glad you liked it!
-
I was thinking about filing my taxes, but I decided that it's too late, so I won't. I'll do it later. Instead, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Bruce, thanks for your song. It was like you were singing directly to me and I really needed it. Thanks again.
DR Jan, I agree completely!
And while I'm posting to you, where have you been? Why aren't you with us more?
-
I slept well until sometime past 2:30, when the temperatures in the building really dropped and all three cats climbed in with me for warmth. Annabelle's the worst. She came down from her bookcase nest and set herself on my legs smack in the middle of the bed. It's difficult with my leg pains to maneuver already, but Annabelle's ten pounds make it worse and I don't want to hurt her in my restlessness.
-
I need to call my pharmacy this morning. If my requested prescriptions are filled, I'll make the trek to pick them up.
-
I plan to spend a good part of my day watching Levi! and I look forward to that.
-
TOD
I'm with DR George. I have no memory. I had a transistor radio in college but that was over 50 years ago. I purchased my first TV in 1980 at Macy's, I think, but I now have no memory of the brand.
-
DR TCB, I think we were among the mechanicals rehearsing Pyramus and Thisbe. I might have been Flute, but the dream wasn't really about rehearsing.
-
Kitty cleanup in 20 minutes.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I wish I were still asleep. Bad night. It was way too warm.
-
We didn’t have a TV until I was 7. I think I got my own when I was 9 or 10. And you couldn’t stop me from watching it.
-
I don’t know when I got my first transistor radio, but I do remember assembling one for a Cub Scouts project. It actually worked.
-
Kitty cleanup over, I'm on my second cuppa and some breakfast, almond butter and cherry preserves on toast.
-
Good morning, all.

My first transistor radio was probably a Sears Silvertone, and it was sometime during my 7th grade year (1961-62) that I JUST HAD TO HAVE ONE. My earliest memories of it are standing around the junior high school courtyard with my friends, many of whom had probably just gotten them then. All I can tell you about the radio itself was that it was of the standard "cigarette pack" size, AM-band only, and I had a leather case for it. For us kids then, having a radio was a huge thing.
It was probably within the following year that I got my first clock radio for my bedroom. Again, probably a Sears model (my parents were devoted Sears buyers throughout much of their married life).
And what were these radios usually tuned to?
WQAM Miami "Tiger Radio" 560 on your dial. The primary DJ was Rick Shaw, and I've not been surprised to find in recent that he and that station share legendary status. My junior high and high school years represent one of the two times in my life I've enjoyed having pop music on to any great extent. Of course there was classical music, but what I most remember listening to on radio were broadcasts of concerts. I don't recall just having a classical station on in general, it was usually for something specific. That's where my love for "live performance" broadcasts and recordings was born. Finally, late at night I enjoyed listening to a call-in show hosted by a voice I could swear was Larry King, but I'm not sure that he was doing that yet even though he was already active on radio in those years.
-
Our very first TV was a Muntz. Remember THAT name? That's what we had in the early 1950s. Don't know how long that one lasted, but my next memory of a TV would again be a Sears model in the early 1960s in Florida. Black and white. My folks never had a color one till the very late 60s, as I recall. I do know it wasn't until I was no longer living in the house.
And Zenith? It seems odd to not be able to recall our specifically having any Zenith equipment, but I don't.

Is anybody planning on watching the free streaming of the new musical version of Pride and Prejudice tomorrow?

Jane Eyre at the National Theatre Yahoo Page starting today......
-
CHEMO BRAIN....that's all I can say.....of course there is a LEVI recording....I own it!
That's why I have a note on my front door: "Do you have your keys?"
-
I crapped out early last night, but wanted to add that I thought the level of performance, and the production of LEVI overall, was exceptional. It was easy to forget that I wasn't watching it on PBS.
Is this the first thing I've seen of the LACC things? That can't be. What am I not remembering? But I want more. More!

Didn't the alien guy in Plan 9 From Outer Space say he was going to DERACINATE the earth - the earth full of idiots!!!!

The old bank building in the center of my town lost its second story last night. You may be able to see it here.

If you scroll to the right.....where that black light pole is.....in the 1920's there was a 20 foot tall lighted cross since we were the headquarters for the KKK in the state. :(
It was taken down long ago, but even when I was small, the hole in the sidewalk where it had been was still there filled with gravel.

Straight line winds no tornado.
-
Page Two TV Dance.
-
We had a Zenith TV and an Admiral TV.....
The first tv I bought for myself was a 19" Panasonic color portable...it last for years and had a pretty good picture.
-
I was sent this Blu-Ray to review. I'd never seen the film before.
WOMAN TIMES SEVEN
WOMAN TIMES SEVEN (1967) is, actually, seven short movies, filmed in France and directed by Vittorio De Sica. Each story features Shirley MacLaine in a different role.
Shirley’s co-stars in the various vignettes include Alan Arkin, Rossano Brazzi, Michael Caine, Vittorio Gassman, Peter Sellers, Anita Ekberg, Lex Barker and others.
Although Shirley is quite good as the diverse collection of characters she plays, most of the individual stories in the screenplay by Cesare Zavattini are rather forgettable. Three, however, are fun.
“Funeral Procession” is the opening story. In it, Shirley and Peter Sellers are among a large procession following her husband’s hearse to the cemetery. During their unhappy walk, Peter declares his love for Shirley, and…
“The Suicides” finds Shirley and Alan Arkin in a cheap hotel room where they are planning a mutual suicide. Both are unhappily married to others. He puts on a tuxedo. She dons a wedding dress, then they lie down on the bed and debate whether they should take poison or shoot themselves. Will they or won’t they?
My personal favorite is “At the Opera”. In it, Shirley is a wealthy woman who buys an expensive dress to wear at the opera, only to learn that another woman is planning to wear the same gown at that gala event. What will Shirley do? Murder is a definite option.
The sharp Blu-Ray release from Kino Lorber includes audio commentary from film historian Kat Ellinger.

Good morning!
-
Thursday morning greetings! Richard is swapping our storm windows for screens - a huge job requiring many trips to the basement and back. He skipped going for a walk this morning, figuring that stair-climbing would be his exercise for the day.
-
Thanks for letting us know about Pride and Prejudice, DR John G! It just happens that 54 Below is showing a Liz Callaway concert at the same time (6:30 pm), but I see that there's an encore of Pride...at 10 pm, so I may try and see it then.
-
Loved seeing "Levi" again. My friends and I really enjoyed seeing it at LACC. I remember telling BK that Marc should be on Broadway. He was great!
-
You’re welcome, Kevin H. There’s a streaming of Bandstand Friday night. It’s $7, but it’s a fundraiser for the actors fund.
-
We had a Zenith black and white TV.
My first personal TV was a small one (also black and white). I bought it with money I got as gifts for my 8th grade graduation.
-
Bandstand’s screening also lasts a couple of weeks.
-
We now have 6351 cases in Indiana - 245 deaths - 82 cases in my county.
-
I kept saying in the meetings.....we don't want to do a press release EVERY TIME.....just make it timely.....don't confuse people.
But what do I know?
So what does the headline in the local paper say?
Putnam County Playhouse alters 2020 schedule for second time
-
I finished my Babes In Toyland work for the nonce. My pharmacy confirmed the prescription refills arrived so I will pick them up tomorrow morning. I'm going to watch Act One of Levi! and then see what new fresh hell has come up before I wqatch Act two.
-
What happened to your bank, DR JRand69?
-
Straight line winds no tornado.
Yikes, DR JRand! We brought in the porch furniture last evening and were having a doozy of a thunderstorm when we went to bed. The power must have gone out at some point because I had to reset the clock on the microwave when I got up this morning. Much cooler here today and still a little windy.
-
Brigitte has her cellphone with her. She has to be in isolation for a week while they treat her. But she can text.
-
I had to run to the bank. Hopefully all is now well. And now to Levi!
-
I just finished Act One and I will take a break for a bit. After watching the first act, I'm wondering, why hasn't Manhattan's Jewish Rep seen this or been offered it?
-
With a bootleg of Love Life, I come to the end of my Kurt Weill odyssey. It’s been about 38 hours of listening. What shall I listen to next?
-
Made a grocery run at lunch. Didn’t have to wait in line. They had everything except for Hand wipes. They even had toilet paper. There were a few inconsiderate folks, but it was okay by and large.
-
I just finished watching Levi!, and it's quite wonderful. I actually preferred Act One, which I though flowed very nicely. I had a few problems with Act Two, my biggest one being that I never felt the characters aging and it covers 20(!) years. My other problem was that the Chinese couple didn't work for me. I kept feeling she was in love with Levi. I also never understood why Sarah kept popping up in Act Two without her husband. Did I miss something?
I liked the cast. Marc Ginsburg is really wonderful. It's a lovely show with much potential, and I thought BK's and Kay's work was really fluid and imaginative.
-
Just remembered that Levi wasn't in Pasadena (that was the ALS benefit), so I corrected my post!
-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of sleep thanks to the pitter-patter of the rain.
-
Su Lin is in love with Levi. Han Chow is in love with Su Lin. I think at that time Levi clearly knows Su Lin and he could never be together and to protect her he sends them to Chicago, which is based on fact - he did that to protect his Chinese workers - it's all in there but perhaps needs to be strengthened. As to Sarah, her husband is always off making speeches and doing stuff, hence no children and her being alone most of the time - I agree it's a little weird and I'd address that at some point.
I'll tell you something else interesting: There's a whole thing where the Chinese chanting is. I wanted a sort of Chinese Opera theater thing there, which I thought would be a neat way of showing the burning of Chinatown and Levi's factory. And we did it, which is why you hear the chanting. But we didn't have the costumes for it nor the masks to make it work, and Kay struggled with it and I didn't like it and it confused the audience. Larry suggested that for the video we make it a montage and we did, but that's something I'd like to revisit because I came up with an intro for it that I think would make it work.
-
Whoever was asking about other LACC stuff - there's a lot of LA Now and Then on YouTube, but I may have the entire show - if so, should I put that up for streaming? I have a full performance of Li'l Abner, but it was the first dress rehearsal and too rough to put up. I was thinking about maybe getting a couple of clips out of it? I would have taped several performances, but the then head of the department was a real jerk and soon thereafter he was fired for something he did that was quite illegal and involving me - a story I have never told.
-
We never taped any of Lost and Unsung. And I have a full thing of the Brain somewhere on DVD but don't have the files. But I so hate the General Mills that I've never wanted anyone to see it.
-
DR ELMORE that is the FORMER bank building that lost its second story.......straight line winds.....
-
Someone on Facebook asked if I had a SATB for Everything Is Gonna be All Right. Once I realized that that didn't stand for Saturday and Thursday Barbecue, I told him no but that I knew a couple of folks who do that sort of thing, like elmore for example. :)
-
Food. Really didn't want to cook here again so I was going to get the Philly cheese from Jerry's Deli but with tax and tip and all it was over thirty bucks. So, instead it's my farfalle with roasted garlic and chicken - lunch size - from Cheesecake Factory - cheaper and better.
-
It will be here in forty minutes.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Well, page three at least.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
Well, if they're not at home, they'd better be essential people.
-
That was me asking about LACC.
ABNER would be my holy grail. I'll scarf up any of it you're willing to share.
L.A. NOW AND THEN - loved the excerpts, but yes, a straight through one would be wonderful.
BRAIN - absolutely positively. Wasn't some of that on YouTube at one point (I haven't looked yet)? Or was that NYC?
Not LACC, but is PURE IMAGINATION a possibility?
-
Are you allowed to do a documentary of sorts about making that production of "Lil Abner"
-
That way, the clips could be more than clips.
-
I'll have to see if I have the complete file on LA Now and Then - I'm sure I do. Brain is a no-go for the reasons I've stated - the actor got worse and worse as the show ran and unfortunately it was taped on the second to final performance when he was completely out of control. I did everything I could with him but he was a real jerk and thought he could do whatever he wanted.
-
I do have Pure Imagination - not all the way through, but clips - but again, certain people in that cast were just not up to the challenge - I could put up Sami and Jane Noseworthy's stuff and may.
-
I really wish that Dial M for Murder had been taped.
-
Food was excellent.
-
I'll now go hunting and see what's on the back-up drive.
-
I really wish that Dial M for Murder had been taped.
OMG, yes.
Man Who Came to Dinner?

There's still got to be something that makes her willing to marry Han Chow, and I either missed it or it needs to be rethought. I like this show, and I wish it so much good.
-
I had to do some clean up work on "the book." Now it's time to think about dinner.
-
The score for LA Now and Then is great. So, seeing the show would be a treat.
Goin’ to the Whiskey...
-
I really wish that Dial M for Murder had been taped.
OMG, yes.
Man Who Came to Dinner?
Man Who ... would be wonderful. Well, any actually.
-
Where is Vixmom? It’s Maundy Thursday. Do you know where your Lutherans are?
-
The old bank building in the center of my town lost its second story last night. You may be able to see it here.
:o What a shame.

Thank goodness for texting.
-
The notes won't reload. I will try again later.
-
DR TCB thanks for the update on both you & Nicky. Did he get his treatment at the vet?
-
The notes have updated. It seems the reload was simply slow. When I opened the notes again they had already changed to the 9th.
-
I have no idea what our first tv was. I was only 2 at the time. I only remember that we had one.
-
I am not sure I ever had a transistor radio. I think I used my sister's radio.

I guess I am now! I didn't know about this. Thanks for posting it, John!
-
Straight line winds no tornado.
Oh, my goodness! :o
-
Bandstand’s screening also lasts a couple of weeks.
I can't wait for that!! :D Except that once you pay and start watching, you only have three days to watch it...as many times as you want, but for only three days.
-
With a bootleg of Love Life, I come to the end of my Kurt Weill odyssey. It’s been about 38 hours of listening. What shall I listen to next?
Wow! That's a lotta Weill!

First, do you really have to ask if you should put up your shows for streaming? Of course! Please do! And second, as to the head of the department, :o !

four!!

I don't think she does marry him. I'd have to go back and check the script, but he wants it and she doesn't - while Levi says she should I think it's left unresolved.
-
I just got back from walking to the post office to mail Larry's A Carol Christmas DVD. :)
-
Uploading the complete LA Now and Then. It's irritating on certain levels, which are these: one camera, fixed. The camera really screws up the great lighting - so know that the blackouts were completely black - the camera gloms onto the musician stand lights and suddenly brightens everything - the light changes were very crisp and dynamic - it's especially harmful to The Black Dahlia number and the disco number - that began with a tight pin spot on his face so that the costume reveal was a surprise, not here.
-
But it was fun to see it all again. The Bruce Vilanch sketch (the Uber driver) doesn't work as well as it should because I could not drum into the head of the student actor that he was the set-up guy - his only job in that scene is to set up Robert Yacko's punch lines and he never ever got that - actually, I think he got it once and the whole thing played great. But he talks too fast and thinks it's about him, which it isn't.
-
Yesterday, after I left my sister's house, I went to Costco and got their Costco-sized meatloaf and mashed potatoes. It's in the oven now. I've never had them, but they look good. Unless it's all horrible, I'll be having meatloaf and mashed potatoes for days! Yum (hopefully)!

That's too bad.

Yep, when it comes to videotaping a show, autofocus and autoexposure are not your friends. :)
-
BK, in view of the above...
Are there any of the student performances in LEVI that you’re less than satisfied with?
(In my one-shot viewing I sure didn’t detect any such weaknesses.)
-
I was messaging with a friend when she suggested we FaceTime. I can't do that, instead we did a video chat through messenger. Keith came & visited with her for awhile. We have known her since we were 18 and my apartment was next door to her family apartment. She was 9 at the time.

Yes, the black fellow who plays the rivets guy - he's in LA Now and Then, too, and in the taped show I have he manages to screw up his intro to Weekday Heroes - amazing, really, since he has about four spoken lines in the entire show. He's just not really an actor, but a pleasant singing voice. Another twenty minutes and I'll post the link.
-
I went to K's Donuts because at this point any treat is a good thing, but I got two smaller donuts rather than my usual chocolate peanut butter, which is HUGE.
-
The YouTube uploads are so slow - I'm sure the site and people uploading is huge right now for all the obvious reasons.
-
The processing time is as long as the upload time - that's never the case. But soon, and once I give the link, then I'll watch something or other, probably other.
-
There’s nothing like Thomas Hardy for the holidays. Started a two-parter based on The Mayor of Casterbridge. Gloom and agony lie in store. No escaping it.
-
We could do a Hardy compilation for TV called Hardy Holidays.
-
Listening to music, eating a jelly donut.
-
Funny, Dr. Fauci is now saying the death toll total will be more likely around 60,000. So all those idiots saying thirty million could die (just do the math, they said) and the dire 100 to 200,000 was, as I have been saying all along, just fear mongering and based on nothing. I pray he's right.
-
Jelly donut is yums.
-
Twenty minutes left.
-
For the processing, not the jelly donut. For the jelly donut there are three bites remaining.
-
We could do a Hardy compilation for TV called Hardy Holidays.
I would buy a copy.

Hmmm.. There's also a version of Jesus Christ Superstar on the youtube channel The Shows Must Go On
-
We now have 6351 cases in Indiana - 245 deaths - 82 cases in my county.
Our police department issued a statement saying "Several Staff members" have tested positive. Glad I'm not doing court hearings right now
-
95% processed - the counter is no longer visible so why it's not done is anyone's guess.
-
Finally! Here's the link. Like the other one, this is set to unlisted and the only way to see it is via the link. PM me for the link, just as before.

I don't remember our first tv, except it was black and white and had rabbit ears. They used to make Zenith tvs in Sioux City. I didn't live here then. We had a big console TV when I was little. I had a little transistor I would listen to in my bedroom at night.
-
We could do a Hardy compilation for TV called Hardy Holidays.
Or how about Hardy's Hearty Holidays? ;D
-
Got a lot done today. I have one motion to write tonight and a phone hearing tomorrow. Then lots more writing to get done over the next two weeks.....two more of those long briefs.

Thanks for the link BK

I read today that they think 9 days from now will be the apex for Iowa and COVID. Seems about right, the numbers are definitely going up the past few days.
-
Good night, all.
-
My SIL’s sister and her husband have both tested positive
-
10 people from my husband’s work have died
-
6,268 deaths in New York State so far
-
362 dead in my county
-
269 people in my 6.5 square mile town tested positive as of yesterday
-
So glad you think this is just “fear mongering” and “only” 60,000 people will die
-
My SIL’s sister and her husband have both tested positive

Vixmom, I'm so sorry. :'(

Look, I know nerves are raw here, but there is really no need to misinterpret like this. This is the post that caused you to just accuse me of something that I in no way said or implied or inferred.
"Funny, Dr. Fauci is now saying the death toll total will be more likely around 60,000. So all those idiots saying thirty million could die (just do the math, they said) and the dire 100 to 200,000 was, as I have been saying all along, just fear mongering and based on nothing. I pray he's right."
I don't think my point is hard to understand, so let me spell it out. Saying 30 million people could die is fear mongering, period. Saying 100,000 to 200,000 could die when that is truly unknown, is fear mongering. I understand people are dying and that many have tested positive and of those many that have tested positive most will recover.
My point, my POINT was and is that there has been nothing but fear mongering since this began - from the media, from Facebook, which is why there has been all the panic and hysteria, which is what I'm talking about. I didn't say "ONLY 60,000 would die" - do you see those words in my post? No, you don't. I clearly said the dire predictions of thirty million to 100 to 200, 000 were exactly that - unknown dire predictions with no basis in reality, so why make such predictions? What good does it do? Any death, ONE death, is too many, but it's a virus and people have died, tragically, just as they do from other awful things. I know people who've been affected by this just like you do. I'm not making light of anything and I should think you would know that. Dr. Fauci has revised what he thinks the death toll will be DOWNward - that's not a good thing? Which is why the final four words in my post are: I PRAY HE'S RIGHT.
Let's not do this here, seriously. We all know what's what here, we all have opinions on how things are handled, but there's no need to misinterpret the point of a three sentence post. We're all caring people, and yes, that includes li'l ol' me. Thank you.

Finished with my viewing.

Our police department issued a statement saying "Several Staff members" have tested positive. Glad I'm not doing court hearings right now
Very good.

I haven't either. I read one chapter yesterday, and the was probably the first time I've read anything in a couple of weeks. :-\ I need to finish my book!

I loved LEVI, especially that opening number.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
Marc Ginsburg was really fantastic. What a performance!
-
Hello, George.

My first radio was a crystal radio that we made at the Y, or maybe in Indian Guide. I believe the next year we made little transistor radios.
-
My first tv was one I purchased at a auction when I was in the 8th grade.

TCB, so glad you enjoyed it. Marc is really great. He recently played Tateh in Ragtime and he's been on tour in a small role in The Band's Visit. I am very proud of the opening number, too. And another thing I like about the show is there's quite a bit of comedy in it, which is really helpful.
-
I had worked all summer at a concession stand that my sister’s in-laws owned at a race track. My sister worked for them, my mom worked for them, and I ran the snow cone stand next to the regular concession stand.

Where did he do RAGTIME?

Just had a long telephonic conversation with Doug Haverty - that was fun to catch up on stuff. I'm still trying to figure out if I should plan a May Kritzerland, but even if we're given the okay at the end of April, I don't think people will quite come out that quickly, so I think we won't be back until June, at least I hope so. So, I'm going to start thinking about making a Kritzerland show online - with five performers from home and we'd do it the same way, rehearsals wise, and I'd do my stuff live, too. I just have to talk to someone about how to do it, what program or service to use. I know some folks have done it, so I'm sure it can be done.

I gave Nick his first insulin injection this evening.
-
Ragtime was at the Pasadena Playhouse last year.
-
Better write some notes right about now - or should that be write about now.

I pulled up the fur on his neck and inserted the needle directly into my finger.
-
But the second time I got it right.

Oh, no!! :o Hopefully, you didn't actually inject yourself with the insulin!
-
But the second time I got it right.
Whew!
-
My niece had to give one of her cats saline injections. It took her awhile, but eventually she did get the hang of it.
-
The vet i saw today I really liked. She did tell me that Nick’s vision is really poor. That is probably the reason why he never leaves the bedroom and the master bath.
-
I pulled up the fur on his neck and inserted the needle directly into my finger.
Oh, no!! :o Hopefully, you didn't actually inject yourself with the insulin!
Just the needle, I hadn’t pushed the button on the pen, yet.
-
Good night.

That's a relief.

I first wrote them in Greek but then when reading them I said to myself, "Myself, that's all Greek to me," and so I used translator and got them back into English.
