Well, you've read the notes, the notes told a tale and had diverting diversions, and now it is time for you to post until the diverting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SUCCEDANEUM!
-
BK, congrats on finally being able to hold the first copy of your very own new book! When do you expect to be able to ship them?
-
Off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Have to wait for the hardcover, and if that's as fine as the softcover, then I'll place the order and it's usually about two weeks until they arrive.
-
The book is lovely!
-
Vibes for DR JEANNE and continued vibes for the sister of DR TCB.
DR CILLA LIZ I am convinced that cats can understand English....
-
SUCCEDANEUM!! That's what I said when I followed DR GEORGE's link from last night.....to see my formerly FAT self dancing.....we did not win the contest.....
And if my partner had told me she planned to wear Veronica Lake's hair, I would have helped her with it.....she surprised me with the do as we were introduced....
But I do still enjoy that song! It's one of my favorite disco tunes.
-
Good morning, all!

I had another bad night of sleep, so as soon as I fed the cats, I went back to bed. I had two strange dreams but I remember neither of them now.

Stella and Thatch have been romping a lot. The place is a mess.

Saturday morning greetings! My Zoom commitments continue today, as I’m a delegate to the AAUW Ohio annual meeting. Tomorrow’s will be more fun - it’s a baby shower for Mary Linda and Rob. They told us last night that their breezeway looks like an Amazon warehouse.
-
DR Elmore, I’m so sorry to hear about your friend.
-
I spoke to Shelly Winters several times on the phone when I worked at the Drama Book Shop. She had an account. She was friendly and always seemed a bit scattered. She would ask me to tell her the latest bios that had arrived, and she would add comments like, "That might be interesting" or "I worked with him/her." She once ended a conversation with, "So sad. They're all dead now."
One of the other clerks once delivered a package of books to her apartment, He said she rang him up and a hand came from around the door to take the package from him. She said she had just got out of the tub abd was naked.

DR Elmore, I’m so sorry to hear about your friend.
Thank you, DR Ginny, and everyone else who posted comments.

It's time for kitty cleanup.
-
Clean up is over, and I am pondering two things: breakfast and the rest of my day. Last night we watched the first two episodes of the PBS series Wolf Hall starring Mark Rylance and Damien Lewis, who looks fantastic as Henry VIII in his prime before he came obese.
-
Good morning, all.
-
What a nice book cover design I voted for! :)
-
The fat orange slug in the White House claims he was being sarcastic, but I don't think because he's a total fool. I really doubt he knows the meaning of the word sarcastic. I like the Daily News appelation this morning.
-
Love the Shelly Winters stories, DR Elmore.

George thank you for the fun link.

Funny about the breezeway. I wish Kate had wanted a baby shower for me to attend. I wasn't surprised she didn't. They were very surprised many of our friends sent gifts anyway :)

She lived around the corner from my father and he would see her when he still walked the neighborhood. She was always friendly.

And the word of the day is: SUCCEDANEUM!
Coincidentally, SUCCEDANEUM! was the first word that escaped my lips yesterday when I fired up my scanner software, only to find that Canon's last driver support for that scanner was for the operating system I just upgraded FROM.
Actually, if truth be told, there were several other words, most being of a multisyllabic nature describing my wonderment at this being the second time in a decade that a trusty Canon scanner has been magically transformed into a brick at the hands of its own manufacturer's support policies.
-
More vibes for TCB's sister.
Sounds like she's in better shape than our friend here was. He was found (thanks to a daily checkup by friends) unresponsive, and he remained unresponsive and intubated for the next few days in ICU. Scary stuff, man.
-
(Continuing my sad story)...
Fortunately, with much fumbling, I was able to use Apple's image capture utility with that scanner for a quick thing I needed to send off to someone. That's a simple app, though, and it won't take advantage of some of the scanner's nicer features, so I began looking for replacement software. Well, what a fool I was for thinking I'd be able to just grab some cheap or free thing. People want real money for this stuff. A leading program called VueScan does everything I want, and more, but the full version costs $89, nearly half the price I paid for the damned scanner in the first place, and the utterly useless "budget" version is $39. My, oh my.

Randy Rainbow, and/or whoever's on his team, does amazing work in a short amount of time.
That's definitely one of the great ones.

Well, I just took another baby step into the 21st century by installing Zoom on my laptop. I needed it for this webinar I'll be sitting in on this afternoon (with apologies to DR Elmore :) ). Pray for Rosemary's baby.
-
My sister tells me Zoom is the place to be and that several of my brothers and sisters have a weekly Zoom meeting.....so perhaps I shall look into it.
-
Have fun being on the airwaves DR GINNY.
-
Today.....yes today.....in fact less than 15 minutes ago....I was stimulated by the mail man.
My check was bent in two different places as if it had been through the mill - and back - but it has arrived.
-
I feel your pain DR CHAS SMITH.
My first scanner from 1999 worked well and it had lots of features...one day it stopped working....and I went to look for a new driver. The scanner site said that my model was at EOL and that new drivers were not available.
That is the day that I learned that EOL in tech speak means End of Life......
Now I usually buy the Canon Printer/Copier/Scanner - and they last several years......

Fairly easy. The software is free. You'd definitely want to set it up and make sure it's operational before going online with it.
If you want to HOST conferences, it's probably advisable to spend the $15 or $20 for an upgrade. Otherwise, you're restricted to 40 minutes in length, and there are probably other benefits to upgrading.

Thanks. This was interesting. It seems I have always known a pandemic was going to happen and just hoped we had learned enough from the past how to stop it.

And just because, here's a totally random picture that I came across on Twitter:

AAUW Ohio’s annual meeting is now history. Officers have been elected and installed. There were about 75 people on the Zoom and, of course there were some technical difficulties. We might have been able to avoid some of those if more people had shown up for at least one of the president’s practice sessions.
Anyway, the Middletown branch won awards in the website, newsletter, and diversity categories, as well as being among the top tier in the “best practices” competition.

Hello
-
There was a zoom Bible study at church this morning
-
This came up in Google: Someone Edited Every Star Wars Movie To Play At Once, And I Can’t Look Away (https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2495062/someone-edited-every-star-wars-movie-to-play-at-once-and-i-cant-look-away)! :o

But I overslept and missed it so I’ll have to try again next Saturday
-
Hello, Vixmom.
-
PAGE FOUR DANCE!!
-
I did remember to bring my car to the shop for my annual inspection
-
I had an appointment and they only took one customer at a time
-
They were masked and gloved and had a nice bench set up in the parking lot
-
Fortunately it was a lovely warm day
-
The inspection went fine except I needed a rear brake light and an oil change but I escaped with only a $89 bill
-
When they were done they pulled out the Clorox wipes and wiped down the interior and the door handles
-
Then I came home and made omelettes
-
Good afternoon.
-
Vixmom, I need an oil change. But I'm worried about whatever viruses are left in the air after the service technician gets out of the car.
-
I just watched Love Never Dies. I was very much against a sequel.
I think I liked it. It was beautiful.
-
Elmore, what happened with Michael? I'm sure the Fiddler tour had to end. Is he home in NYC? Have they rescheduled the tour for the fall?
-
Gammage canceled "Come From Away" and rescheduled "Mean Girls" for September.
-

Very nice. Do you think Zoom would work well for a book discussion?
Yes, as long as multiple people don’t try to talk at once. That’s annoying enough face to face and REALLY annoying on line. I’ve been to 2 book discussions on Google Hangouts, which is similar, and I have another one coming up on Tuesday.
-
It was three years ago today we lost DR Kerry.

Good afternoon.
Lovely new avatar DR Laura.

Vixmom, I need an oil change. But I'm worried about whatever viruses are left in the air after the service technician gets out of the car.
The dealership we purchased our car out sent a notice they completely sanitizing after working on cars. Maybe the place you get your oil change is doing the same. How many miles has it been since your last oil change? If you aren't driving much maybe it can wait.

Multiple talkers, and I am also guilty of doing this, is my concern with a group video discussion. Thanks for letting me know Google Hangouts is similar to Zoom.
We may just end up on the lawn.

I am the "organizer" for this discussion I don't even care about. I am enjoying the book "Shoe Dog" and finding it interesting which I didn't expect to do. I still have absolutely no interest in discussing it. Shoe Dog is the memoir by Philip Knight about Nike.

I never reported on my watching of THOROUGHLY MODERN. MILLIE.
It's wonderful. Sparkling. Do I ever say something is sparkling? I may indeed have just done that.
The three women are incredible -- as is everyone, really. And what pacing. Two and a half hours, and it flew by.
I was particularly into the music, both the score by Elmer B. and the song orchestrations by Andre P. The overture, entr'acte, and exit music held my attention as much as the film. And the sound recording is superb. It was a treat. I'll try not to let another thirty or forty years go by before my next viewing.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Had two frozen dinners, neither very good. But tomorrow I will have something yummilicious.
-
Now I'm trying to remember what BK said about MILLIE. I know it wasn't a glowing impression like mine was. I'll find it later and compare notes.
-
Damn it to HELL, what a beautiful day this was, and tomorrow we're back in the soup.
A cold, chilly, wet soup.
Next couple of days, actually.
We had a very gentle (precip-wise) winter this year, and I'm eternally grateful for that. But man, several years ago we had a 90-degree-plus heat wave in mid- or late April, and only today did we even break 60.
-
I was bad this evening. Please don't call the quesadilla police on me. Please. I'll do better tomorrow.
-
It was nice here today, in the 70s and low 80s. Then it's hot again.
-
Tomorrow is a Mahagony day.
-
Just watched the first couple of minutes of Love Never Dies. I'll probably watch it straight through tomorrow morning.
-
Today's brunch...omelets.
Chopped onions, green peppers, roasted red peppers and mushrooms were sauteed with Penzeys Sunny Paris and then put aside and kept warm for filling
Eggs were beaten with a spring whisk after adding a splash of cold water and a dash of Penzeys cream of tartar. Beat until frothy. The cream of tarter stabilizes the egg whites and the eggs come out so light and fluffy.
Cooked in a good covered skillet until it starts to puff up then added cheese (muenster for me, cheddar for him) and the sauteed veggies. Covered until cheese melts then slid onto plate, folding over. Garnished with sprinkling of Penzey's Sunny Paris and Smoked Spanish Paprika. He had fresh chopped tomatoes as well.

Watching a few of Shirley Temple's shorts from before she was the biggest star. They're called Baby Burlesks and they're very odd. It's not that they're politically incorrect. Well, their target audience seems to have been pedophiles. 3- or 4-year-old Shirley does a bump and grind in one. A young black tap dancer does a suggestive tap routine in which he loses his clothes (or strips), down to his diaper. She can be seen kissing another tot. I'll hold off on watching Polly Tix in Washington and the rest when I can stomach it. I'm sure Kid 'n' Africa will be just a delight.
-
And on that note, I'm off to bed. Good night, all.

Listening to a fantastic CD called Rapid Movement - a Russian pianist doing three Russian concertos. I got it for the Alexander Tsafman, which is absolutely amazing, especially the first movement. I don't know how anyone can actually play it - this guy is pretty fast, another one I found on YouTube was too slow, and then also on YouTube is the composer playing faster than is possible.

Today I browsed DR Kerry's Facebook page and enjoyed photos of happy memories.

Has anyone tried the Clorox cleanse?
-
I was thinking about it.
