Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a second test with hiccups, and now it is time for you to post until the hiccuping cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SAPONACEOUS!
-
Today, I have an online meeting for work at 3:00. It shouldn't take more than an hour.
-
Topic of the Day: I never got anything specific, just what caught my eye each time. I always like Burnt Peanuts or M&Ms. I probably got things like that more often than anything else. :)
-
Well, time for sleep.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning to everyone hope everybody has a great day
-
The only Penny candy that I actually remember was bazooka bubblegum and caramel Square. Though I do remember a scoop of ice cream was 10 cents
-
Good morning, all!
-
I did sleep rather well, but I'm very sleepy at the moment. At 9:30 I have a call about this unemployment insurance, and I do not want to miss it.
-
Good to see DR TCB last night.
-
I have very little to report at the moment, Perhaps later.
-
BK - Putting all snideness and rhymes-wth-witchery aside
You're putting work together that will be looked at at standing for artists keeping the art form going when people look back in this period.
Performance will survive, and you are helping figure out how it all happen. How the audience sits may be trial and error, but - other states and continents have to figure that out, too, sen before NYC and L.A. CAN legally go live - and in this case - thet may have found ways to figure the live audience this out before NYS and L.A. can be back. But the scale of what you do now is remarkable. It spurs folks like.me to want to try it in our own way, because you're just higher-profile and using your higher profile! Just like when celebs make masks inspires regular folks.
That's all the sappiness I'll do publicly (I think). The words "the inspiration" on the catchphrase of HHW is not an overstatement.

I should have made thaat five posts.
-
voxmom could have stretched it to get us to page 2.
-
Thursday.
DR TCB was here last night!
-
I have my first doctor's appt. via the computer next Wednesday at 11 a.m.
It is just a follow up with my surgeon who okays my insurance to pay for my supplies.....so it's a must..... AND the same day we have the EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE meeting for the theatre to discuss what our plans are..... :-X
-
I hope my surgeon doesn't tell me that I'm SAPONACEOUS.
-
BK,
I was listening to your broadcast last night, then, suddenly, it stopped.
I don't know what happened.
-
DR TCB how how before you can check out the book again? With only 3 chapters left I feel your frustration.
-
DR Druxy, were you on youtube last night? The same happened to me.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD:
Anything with nuts or peanuts, like Boston baked beans. I also loves those gooey caramels with the white sugar centers. Still love them. Smarties, SweeTarts, Lemon Drops — something with acid that balanced the sugar.
-
DR TCB what device were you reading your ebook on? If you read on a kindle just keep the wifi off and then you won't lose your book even if the library takes it back.
-
Good morning!
-
I enjoyed your song last night, BK!
-
Nice to see TCB!

I just spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Suad from NY State Senator José Serrano's office. I am now registered for food delivery and (hopefully) self-employed unemployment benefits, Suad was wonderful and patient, and I had a great time with her. I need to call her tomorrow morning to confirm the unemployment application.
-
It's a rainy day in Northern Virginia. 63 degrees right now.

Sounds good, DR elmore!

My brothers and I loved penny candy as a kid, but I remember nothing about it now except for root beer barrels and sourball candies.

DR JohnG, this may be of some interest.

Good morning, all.

Slept in a little bit, then laid about in the recliner for a good long while, ketchuping on various and sundry.

Penny candy, candy for a penny ...
https://youtu.be/Dgypwa5qJ_w
-
I think that, like DR Elmore, I don't remember too much penny candy, as such, but things like those root beer barrels and the little Coke bottle things and wax candy lips (ew!) were favorites. I instantly thought of candy cigarettes, too, but I don't know if they were penny candies.
The earliest nickel candy bars I remember liking (most candy was five cents then) were 3 Musketeers, which were introduced to my sister and me when my mother brought them home for us from a temporary secretarial day job she had for a while. We had surely had a few other of the big names, but that's a memory that has stuck around. I recall loving Payday, and I've always remembered discovering the original Chunky all by myself at around age nine when we had moved to where it was only a two-block walk to Main St. and there were wonderful things to behold. LifeSavers and chewing gum were always around. But for what seemed like the longest time, everything was a nickel. Another significant candy memory was at my great grandmother's house in Morgantown WV, where there was always a huge glass bowl of Good & Plenty on a buffet or side table in her dining room. That was my first exposure to those, and whether or not I was crazy about them then, I can't say, but upon "rediscovering" them some years later, I was indeed crazy about them and damn it, I could eat a box of those right now.
-
Once I'd gone away to school and then moved to California, I think I didn't much buy candy except sometimes at movie theaters. Oh, I forgot that -- in those earlier years, Milk Duds were a favorite at theaters. (Can't stand them now; they're possibly the one childhood favorite that never held up once somewhat more adult tastes were acquired.) So anyway, there was some moment, probably in my L.A. years, when I wanted to experience my old favorite Chunky again, and I was shocked at how expensive everything like that had become. But worse, it just didn't seem to be as good.
So I looked it up a while ago. It seems that the original Chunky I knew as a kid contained milk chocolate, raisins, cashews, and Brazil nuts. Wow! Nice. And I was always crazy about it partly because of the raisins. However, around 1984 Nestle took it over from its previous owner and it became milk chocolate, raisins, and just peanuts. When a damned shame.
Which also reminds me -- Raisinettes (however they spell it) were, and will probably remain forever, a favorite kind of candy.

DR Elmore, that's wonderful news about your phone call. One person spent an hour and a half with you? That's incredible. And wonderful.
Today or tomorrow I have to get onto the Connecticut website and apply for "gig workers" unemployment, since this is about the time they should finally have theirs in place. There's definitely money to be had once you jump through the hoops.

Since this is what I applied for, I was asked a lot of questions that were not easy to answer:
how many employers in the past 18 months? Easy, with my tax records
why did your job begin? This year or before 2009?
when did it end? These two were easy since I had my City Center invoices.
why did it end? Were you let go? discharged? Fired? the computer does not undertand the subtleties
When you enter this hell, have your drivers license ready and all tax records for the past 18 months,
-
Thank you!
-
Good news from DR ELMORE! And the money keeps rolling in.
Vibes for DR CHAS SMITH and any other DR who is attempting to negotiate the government labyrinth.
-
TOD:
Root beer barrels - although I swallowed one once and it got caught in my throat....most uncomfortable until it melted down enough to be swallowed.
Jolly Ranchers - especially the green apple ones, though they were hard on the teeth to be sure.
Candy cigarettes and wax soda bottles.....those may be been ore than a penny.....
PayDay was my favorite candy bar....I still like them, but they are very SWEET!
Almond Joy was second with Snickers Bars a distant third.....
-
Gloomy day weather wise, but that's okay.
My brother tells me that his Stimulus Check is scheduled to be mailed tomorrow.....mine was mailed last Friday and I got it on Saturday....so who knows?
-
Mercury is moving into conjunction with Uranus today.....so....
Have you been bored lately? You might not mind your repetitive routine after today’s Mercury-Uranus conjunction in Taurus unleashes its energy on you! This transit aims to distract and disrupt, leading you astray by tempting you to find out more about strange, unknown, or just plain weird ideas and concepts.
Of course whether or not you’ll play along is entirely up to you, but it’s hard to stay focused on a boring chore when there are so many more interesting things to think about. You might also get unexpected news today, and whether good or bad, it only adds to the oddness of the day.

Is that food delivery at no extra charge? This is great either way. Continued vibes for the unemployment benefits.
-
DR Charles I agree with you about Milk Duds.
-
I now make my own Raisinets with a handful of Ghirardelli chocolate chips and a handful of raisins. Then I let the mix melt in my mouth a bit before chewing.

Last night the cats and I watched Pillow Talk, which I had never before seen. I haven't seen a movie this un-PC in some time, and I loved every minute of it. I think my favorite scene was the great Thelma Ritter drinking Rock Hudson under the table, although the whole cast is truly wonderful. Doris Day looks fantastic, and she's quite wonderful and very funny, as is Rock Hudson, but it's the supporting cast - Ritter, Allen Jenkins, Nick Adams, Lee Patrick, and a pre-Follies Mary McCarty among others - that keep the pot boiling while the stars catch their breath. Tony Randall was a kind man, but he seems to me to be playing the same fastidious, perpetually ruffled second banana, although he plays it quite well. I don't know who played the black lady singer, but I loved her.
Lover Come Back is in this Day-Hudson set, so we may watch that tonight.
-
DR George, your package arrived today. Thanks so much!
I haven't opened it yet, but I believe it's A Carol Christmas, which I will watch this weekend.
-
elmore, I agree about the black singer in Pillow Talk, she was great. Her name is Perry Blackwell and this is her biggest thing. She's also apparently in Dead Ringer as an unbilled organist. I can't find anything else about her at all - no recordings, no nothing.
-
And of course the un-PC-ness is the best. I'd love to watch it with a bunch of "woke" people, wouldn't you, just to see their heads explode.
-
Heading over to the mail place shortly.
-
DR Druxy, were you on youtube last night? The same happened to me.
I went to YouTube last night also, but there was no video.
-

Watching My Man Godfrey with a group of woke people was a chore. I adore that movie. It ain’t broke and it ain’t woke.
-
And of course the un-PC-ness is the best. I'd love to watch it with a bunch of "woke" people, wouldn't you, just to see their heads explode.
That would be fun. And thanks for the Perry Blackwell info. She should have been grabbed by some record company.
-
DR Elmore's report on PILLOW TALK put a smile on my face. And I needed that.
The only thing missing for me as regards the Thelma Ritter bits is any evidence of actual liquor in the house. I think we see her drinking what must be a Bloody Mary, but you don't see any bottles or paraphernalia around. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe it doesn't even matter. I'm just comparing it to the more boozey films of that era.
Also love the wonderful black singer whose name Perry Blackwell I shall endeavor to remember. Now I've got to pull out DEAD RINGER again. :)
And of course the un-PC-ness is the best. I'd love to watch it with a bunch of "woke" people, wouldn't you, just to see their heads explode.
Yes! Yes! A thousand times Yes!
-
I had a nice phone chat with Rob Berman, and I told him about my dream of recording I Married an Angel with him. He thought it was funny.

Yes! Yes! A thousand times Yes!
When Ritter, in her first(?) entrance, removed her hat and there was an ice bag under it, I literally screamed with laughter. She is so brilliant.
-
Yes. And all the business at the elevator.
-
Three!
-
"I know a little bar down the street."
"I know a better one."
-
We are considering the play version of PILLOW TALK - which actually does a nice job of transferring the movie to the stage....it has the ghosts of all of those great folks - but that good will is invaluable.....

A truly bright light was distinguished today :(
Our friend who had been in the hospital with pneumonia and then released. We thought she was improving. Today we received news she has passed away. Penny messaged me as this was a mutual school friend.

EXCELLENT news!!!

Annabelle is working my last nerve. She nonchalantly ignored dinner while Stella and Thatch ate. Starting around 5:15 she began begging for a treat and she didn't let up for the next hour. 6:30 is their treat time, and I'm wondering if that little minx isn't thinking, I can skip dinner and eat later?
-
Thursday evening greetings! Usually at this time of evening we’re eating dinner and watching the 30 minutes of broadcast news we allow ourselves these days. But tonight Richard’s stomach is bothering him, so he’s dozing and I’m keeping an eye on him. I’ll fix myself a bite to eat, but not the nice spaghetti dinner I had planned.

Hugs and vibes for Jane. So, sorry about your friend.

Thank you. Class reunions will never be the same without her as she was the heart of them.
-
Today is the 75th anniversary of Hitler killing himself, as the Washington Post reminded us in a graphic story. So, I decided to put on Judgment at Nuremberg tonight. I didn't realize the film was three hours. But what a cast. Spencer Tracy and Richard Widmark alone make it worth watching. But William Shatner and a few other lesser lights as well as Maximilian Schell are also on hand.
-
My only ?!?!?! moment so far was a title that Miss Dietrich's gowns were designed by Jean Louis. Just doesn't seem to fit the movie.
-
That reminds me of something I meant to ask the other night after watching something. It might have been Thoroughly Modern Millie, but this particular thing had struck me on a couple of other movies recently as well.
The movie credit: "GOWNS BY .........."
Because all of a sudden, I realized that's something you don't see any more. Or have I not been paying attention? It used to be such a regular thing, but I don't think I've seen it on any film made in the last few decades. Now, am I wrong about that? Do I exaggerate? Possibly. But it seems more like such a nice 1950s through 1970s thing, does it not?
-
I have made it to the last day of the Decameron. I'm surprised at how quickly this book has gone by and how much fun it is.

To paraphrase Elaine Stritch on a Sondheim jag, does anyone still wear a gown?
-
I'll drink it down.
-
And one for Jean Louis!
-
So a little while ago I picked up my iPad, went to Facebook, and who do I see but one BK doing a new FB Live thing?
But I was on the web site, not using the iOS app, and FB Live doesn't work on that. So I changed over to the app, which I generally don't like, and got the video going. I missed whatever happened in the first few minutes, but the rest was looking fine.
Tonight I'll be back on the laptop again and we'll see how that goes. I'll try to catch both the FB and YT feeds. That's tricky only because you want to mute the one you're not actually watching, so it takes a few extra seconds when switching back and forth.

Testing, testing, and testing all the livelong day. I couldn't even do a "live" video from my own page on the big boy computer - just wacky to me, could not get it to work. But from the phone it works perfectly - same with the Kritzerland Upstairs at Vitello's page - easy from the phone, which is how we're doing it anyway, but not from the computer. ChasSmith and Ginny were there for a bit.
-
For those having issues on YouTube - again, Hartley was monitoring both sites last night and everything was fine. I am told that Facebook was glitching for a lot of people last night, and the image did freeze for a second, so that explains that. But YouTube is wonky in the best of circumstances and if you don't have solid Internet speeds it can behave poorly - the default should be watching on Facebook.

There is so damned much stuff to watch these days. Someone just informed me about this, the first ever re-broadcast of Leonard Bernstein conducting Mahler’s Second in 1963. For those of you who might indulge in such a thing.

I posted it there, but I'll say it here too, that everything proceeded fine on my end. I only watched on Facebook, didn't go to YouTube this time.

I love love love that movie poster, and what a perfect background image it is for this.
So here's an idiotic question:
Is there any way to tighten or slightly pan the framing of the camera so we don't see the right edge of the poster frame, since the left edge is out of the picture? You probably have this set up as well as it can be, and it's fine. Just an example of a silly "me" thing.

Funny thing about the emojis - Facebook created a new one and apparently it played havoc with everything - that's why the occasional freezes were happening for some people.
-
Condolences to dear Jane.
-
The Live thing was really fun tonight - I had a great time.
-
After, I went for a drive and on the way home decided to brave Ralph's just to see what it was like. It wasn't any more crowded than when it used to be in the evenings before all this. But it was interesting to see what was in short supply. Not meat. Not chicken. Not even canned products. They had plenty of everything and I actually bought almost nothing. The ice cream cases were, to me, the hardest hit - very few things and the ones that were left were not things you'd want. Fascinating. And the frozen food section, while not bereft of product, had been picked over. I got the last two Red Baron pepperoni pizzas - I rather enjoyed the one I had last week. And I got the last three Diet Coke Caffeine free twelve packs, which were on sale so I saved about eight bucks there. Plenty of regular Diet Coke, isn't that interesting? Before all this, no one bought the Caffeine free. Go know. I didn't check the paper products but I assume there weren't any because THAT insanity has not abated. I was in and out in ten minutes.
-
Good evening. George, we love Schwan's. My mom has gotten food from them for years and a lot of it is really good. She's to the point now where he Schwan's man knows what she wants so she has him go look in her freezer and he brings her what he thinks she'd like and she writes a check. He's always right so she must be pretty predictable. She does look through the catalogue too. I've actually been thinking about it, every time I see the yellow truck go by. They drive right up to your house and the frozen food is all on their truck. So you tell them what you want and they go out and get it. Or you can order on line
-
So sorry about your friend, Jane
-
Happy Belated birthday wishes to Vicky
-
Happy belated aniversary wishes to Druxy and wife

BK I saw your test last night, I don't know if I saw any of it live, but did see a bit of it later
-
I'm getting really close to catching up on my back log of briefs. One more big one due on Tuesday and then just the regular madness. I've gotten enough hours in that I should be good to take a week off in the next couple months. I'm going to wait until the virus is under control so things are open and I can spend time with mom
-
So, my neighbor stopped by today. What we ended up arguing about the other day was the extent of the virus in the county and especially from Tyson. Well, today he came over and said "oh my god, you were right about everything" I don't know that anyone has ever said that to me, lol. Sadly, I was right. Today they said that 669 people who work at the plant tested positive. There are reports that people put cold compresses on their heads before going in so they can pass the temperature taking. Also I heard second hand, that the district health called someone who tested positive to tell them the news. Even though the person had been told don't go anywhere, when the call came in he was at Walmart!

Some time ago, Schwan's instituted a fuel surcharge. If you ordered online, it's only $1.75. If you order more than $50 worth, there's no surcharge. However, if you order at the truck, it's a $3.99 surcharge. Anytime that I want to order, I make sure to pre-order online. Rarely, however, do I order $50 worth.

The plant is closing down for 3-4 days to clean. It's one of the biggest beef processing plants in the country- at least it's Tyson's biggest. It employs 4500 people - not all have been tested yet - and processes enough beef in one day to feed 18 million people. Oh and another topper, the county where the plant is located refuses to share how many people are hospitalized. it's going up here and is expected to keep rising.
-
So, my neighbor stopped by today.
Oh, my goodness! What are these people thinking?? :o

Didn't know that. Occasionally I'll see a truck just sitting in a parking lot and will stop and buy a few things. I have been thinking about ordering online. Does it still get delivered on the truck?

Tyson is giving them a $1000 bonus if they keep working. They say if you're sick, you can still qualify, but it's based on attendance, so you know people are going to go to work even if they are sick. And there are a lot of people from African and Central American countries, so they are claiming a language problem is causing the problems....yeah right
-
Lots of other workers are terrified of getting it so they are not going in at all. It's a mess, but it's making it dangerous for all of us.
-
Anyway, things are getting worse here, so of course the federal court announced the grand jury is being called back in and they will soon be starting jury trials again. I think that's nuts
-
I have a hearing there in the morning. I will be wearing an n95 mask. The prosecutor thinks I'm nuts....I think he's nuts...Everything is pretty normal, lol
-
I gotta tell you.
-
And then I wrote...
-
Why I oughta...
-
Started to watch a movie earlier, but not in the mood, frankly.
-
Anyway, enough of my rant. I have to finish a couple more things tonight, they shouldn't take long. Better sign off and get them done. After my hearing in the morning I can come home and stay......although I may stop at the farm and home store for some grass seed.
-
BTW, YouTube is now working properly - not a single hiccup this evening and it archived and posted it to the page immediately after it was done. And I received an e-mail that it was starting.
-
On a happy note, I did get my stimulus money today. That was nice.
-
Looking forward to the show BK
-
Oh we're getting close to a page turn
-
Condolences to dear Jane.
Thank you.
-
I guess I can stick around for that
-
Ta da....unless someone beat me to it
-
Night all....back to work for awhile

We don't buy soda anymore so I haven't paid attention to what is available. Except for occasional unavailability of my favorite flavors there has always been ice cream to purchase.

It is interesting to learn how it is delivered.

So sorry about your friend, Jane
Thank you.

Often we really don't want to be right. That Walmart story is sadly far too common.

You are smart to wear a mask.

DR TCB how how before you can check out the book again? With only 3 chapters left I feel your frustration.
There are four Holds, for two Copies.

A truly bright light was distinguished today :(
Our friend who had been in the hospital with pneumonia and then released. We thought she was improving. Today we received news she has passed away. Penny messaged me as this was a mutual school friend.
Dear Jane, I am so sorry about the loss of your friend.

Yes, everything else is the same, but you pay less of a surcharge. Ordering even once a month like I usually do makes it worth ordering online. That way, you can search their entire catalog and get exactly what you want, and not just what they happen to have on their truck.

T.O.D.
Penny candy (maybe):
Root beer barrels
Wax Coke bottles
Licorice babies (that isn’t what they were called in 1955)
Nickel candy:
Hershey bar - milk chocolate, no almonds
Milk Duds
Good and Plenty
If I had the money to splurge, 10 cent candy:
Flicks

Hi, Tom.

Tom, have you looked into getting an online card at another library system? I have my regular card for Timblerland Regional Library (https://www.trl.org/) (TRL), but I also have an online card for Pierce County Library (https://www.piercecountylibrary.org/), so that if TRL doesn't have an OverDrive title, I can search to see if Pierce County has it. More often than not, they do.
-
And I was able to get the card online without having to actually go to a Pierce County branch. TRL has a reciprocal agreement with them (and other library systems throughout the state), so someone from the Pierce County library system should be able to get a TRL card for just online stuff, too.

I'm getting really close to catching up on my back log of briefs. One more big one due on Tuesday and then just the regular madness. I've gotten enough hours in that I should be good to take a week off in the next couple months. I'm going to wait until the virus is under control so things are open and I can spend time with mom
I am also almost caught up with my briefs. One more load and I can move on to my boxers.

Speaking of fuel surcharges.... BK, didn’t you say you had been running your car to charge your battery for like a half hour at a time? Don’t you think that might be what happened to your extra miles?
-
Yes, I suppose that might account for some miles disappearing but not all.
-
What is this page six malarkey?

What malarkey is this page six?

The eternal question.

And we cannot have enough eternal questions.

That makes sense, if the mile estimates are based on the amount of gas in your tank.

I wonder if I knew Jane's friend?
-
Listening to a piano concerto. Very Warsaw Concerto like, by a talented woman.
