Well, you've read the notes, you know the latest and hardest news, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - you know what - I don't think those fershluganah cows are EVER coming home, that's what I think.
-
And the word of the day is: LOLLYGAG!
-
BK, I'm curious about the Zorba recording that you and Donald played on his show last week during your interview (which I taped...does anyone want it??). In the song "Life Is," the recording started with some bells before it went into the intrumental intro. The CD that I have of the original cast recording does not have those bells before the instruments start! :o I don't have the original vinyl album, so I can't compare. I know it's a minor point, but do you happen to know what that's all about? If you and Donald played a CD, I didn't know that there was more than one CD release of the score. If you played the album, why would they have removed the bells when it was put on CD? Any ideas? Anyone??
-
Not sure, I'll have to ask Donald.
LOLLYGAG!
WUSSBURGERS APLENTY!
I suppose I'll just toddle off to the bedroom environement then.

Sorry that's all I have time for!
Have a GREAT day all!
Talk with you tonight. Unless that bad storm front makes here.

'morning!
Best job vibes today for DR Rodzinski! Continued same for JRand and Kerry!
Foot-healing vibes for both Jane and elmore!
-
I may have missed it yesterday, but BK what are your top favorite commercials that you did?
-
A general good health vibe and all around vibes to those that need them
-
DR George. My Cd of the original cast of "Zorba" starts with bells - The Herschel Bernadi version that is - not the Anthony Quinn later version.
-
I've just watched the first half of "TinTypes". Disappointing - no audience. It just seems dead. That was my opinion of the Jackman "Oklahoma" when it was first shown here a few years back (I think they've added an audience since!) I am now hoping that "Sophisticated Ladies" is not "cold" as well. I really enjoy "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and "Ain't Misbehavin' "

Good morning, all! I hate Daylight Savings Time and I'm sure you all by now my griping about it. I do apologize.
Today's a big BABES IN TOYLAND day, and I hope it goes so well that several numbers are finalized for the edition. My friend Tom Murray, who is a fantastic musical director and musician, has been one the project's major assets. He's abandoned Chicago for five months to test the New York waters, where I think his ship will launch quite nicely, and we're now working over a table and no longer over a phone. Yesterday, we enlarged on the copier the oboe line of Herbert's score to the Finale of Act One in an attempt to read his original instructions to copyist Henry Boewig.
The score was originally written for the 1903 theatre orchestra (around 30 players), and later Herbert went through the score and increased the orchestration for a bigger concert orchestra ofaround 60 players. When he altered things to accommodate 2 more horns, or another oboe and bassoon, he crossed out the original notes and replaced them with new ones. Tom and I felt like the Hardy Boys trying to read a treasure map.

Hi Larry. I've just been listening/watching Ron Raines sing "Gigi". A wonderful performance.

Good evening, DR TOMOVOZ!

DR TD: Sorry to hear that you’ve not been fine. Hope you’ll return to normal condition physically and emothionally.
I’m perky these days and enjoying beautiful cherry blossoms I can see everywhere I am. Oh, yes, cherry blossoms got blooming! It means Spring is in full swing here in this small country, Japan.
Took pictures of them and would like to share with you and all DRs, especially with some DRs having physical and emotional problems
-
This old small temple is located near my house and I always like to spend a time in cherry blossoms season.
-
Other cherry blossoms, in a small square near my house, with blue sky.

Here's a good luck wish for DR Rodzinski as he interviews today.
-
As for DR Rodzinski's question about the longest American film musical number, I'd guess it would be "The American in Paris Ballet" which is eighteen minutes long. I don't think "The Broadway Ballet" in SINGIN' IN THE RAIN is quite that long, but unlike the other ballet, it does feature singing as well as dancing.
-
Beautiful pics, Hisaka.
I am still reading the rest of yesterday's posts. I have to go and get ready for work and try to be perky. Ugh!
Good vicbes to all.
-
The Jackman OKLAHOMA is a weird rendering, I think. At points, we get the audience, applause, shots from behind so we see the crowd, and at other points, there is no applause after numbers, and it all seems kind of dead, like it's being filmed in an empty theater.

Thanks MattH. You know, I was thinking about the ballet in a movie we've been talking about lately, HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON. Never timed it, but it always seemed to go on forever. But no singing there either, I don't believe.
-
Now that we have a new day, I can say without reservation that I was delighted by the ouster of Nikko Smith last night on IDOL. I always thought he and Mario had similar voices, but Mario's was much more secure and on pitch. He also had a very distracting habit of touching himself in his genital area when he sang. I thought maybe one week it was just nerves, but then I began to notice that it happened a lot, and that the director would have the cameraman catch his performance from the chest up most of the time.
Anyway, the last of the really wavery singers is gone now. Every one of the remaining contestants has a secure voice when they sing to their strengths. Now, they just have to make song choices that show off what they do best and stay away from the areas where they're weakest.
-

I didn't even think of that one. When I think musicals with long numbers, I always think of MGM fare. I really keep meaning to re-watch HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN soon.

From what I saw of the trailer from the film it did look like lots of fun!

DR Hisaka,
Those beautiful pictures of the cherry blossoms remind me so much of when I visitied Japan...which was just about this time of year in 1990. Everything was so beautiful there!

Here's an interesting news tidbit (well I think so anyway)
Updated: 10:07 a.m. ET April 6, 2005KIBBUTZ MAANIT, Israel - A Texas oilman is using his Bible as a guide to finding oil in the Holy Land.
John Brown, a born-again Christian and founder of Zion Oil & Gas of Dallas, can quote chapter and verse about his latest drilling venture in Israel, where his company has an oil and gas exploration license covering 96,000 acres.
“Most blessed of sons be Asher. Let him be favored by his brothers and let him dip his foot in oil,” Brown quotes from Moses’s blessing to one of the 12 Tribes of Israel in Deuteronomy 33:24.
Standing next to a 177-foot derrick at Kibbutz Maanit in northern Israel, Brown said the passage indicated there is oil lying beneath the biblical territory of the Tribe of Asher, where the agricultural community is located.
Geological surveys and an attempt by an Israeli-based company to find oil at the same site 10 years ago, a venture he said was abandoned for lack of funds, led Brown to pick the spot where new drilling will begin this week.
Brown said he raised money for “Project Joseph” from fellow evangelical Christians in the United States.
“From the investment standpoint, they certainly hope to have a return of the money,” he said. “But the basis of it is Genesis, chapter 12.”
In that passage, God promises to shower blessings on those who bless the “great nation” sired by the Hebrew patriarch Abraham.

and another one:
Author of Schiavo memo steps forward
Sen. Martinez accepts senior aide’s resignationBy Mike Allen
Updated: 11:33 p.m. ET April 6, 2005The legal counsel to Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) admitted yesterday that he was the author of a memo citing the political advantage to Republicans of intervening in the case of Terri Schiavo, the senator said in an interview last night.
Brian Darling, a former lobbyist for the Alexander Strategy Group on gun rights and other issues, offered his resignation and it was immediately accepted, Martinez said.
Martinez said he earlier had been assured by aides that his office had nothing to do with producing the memo. "I never did an investigation, as such," he said. "I just took it for granted that we wouldn't be that stupid. It was never my intention to in any way politicize this issue."
Martinez, a freshman who was secretary of housing and urban development for most of President Bush's first term, said he had not read the one-page memo. He said he inadvertently passed it to Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), who had worked with him on the issue. After that, other Senate aides gave the memo to reporters for ABC News and The Washington Post.
Harkin said in an interview that Martinez handed him the memo on the Senate floor, in hopes of gaining his support for the bill giving federal courts jurisdiction in the Florida case in an effort to restore the Florida woman's feeding tube. "He said these were talking points -- something that we're working on here," Harkin said.
The mystery of the memo's origin had roiled the Capitol, with Republicans accusing Democrats of concocting the document as a dirty trick, and Democrats accusing Republicans of trying to duck responsibility for exploiting the dying days of a brain-damaged woman.
Conservative Web logs have challenged the authenticity of the memo, in some cases likening it to the discredited documents about Bush's National Guard service that CBS News reported last fall.
‘A great political issue’
The staff of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, at the request of a Democrat, spent a week trying to determine the memo's origin and had come up empty, said an official involved in the investigation.
The unsigned memo -- which initially misspells Schiavo's first name and gives the wrong number for the pending bill -- includes eight talking points in support of the legislation and calls the controversy "a great political issue."
"This legislation ensures that individuals like Terri Schiavo are guaranteed the same legal protections as convicted murderers like Ted Bundy," the memo concludes.
It asserts that the case would appeal to the party's core supporters, saying: "This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited that the Senate is debating this important issue."
The document was provided to ABC News on March 18 and to The Post on March 19 and was included in news reports about congressional intervention in the Schiavo case. Bush returned from an Easter vacation in Texas and signed the bill shortly after 1 a.m. on March 21.
At the time, other Senate Republican aides claimed to be familiar with the memo but declined to discuss it on the record and gave no information about its origin.
In a statement issued last night, Martinez said that Harkin asked him for background information on the bill and that he gave him what he thought was a routine one-page staff memo on the legislation. "Unbeknownst to me, instead of my one page on the bill, I had given him a copy of the now infamous memo that at some point along the way came into my possession," the statement said.
Harkin said that when he read the part about the politics of the case he thought that was "rather out of line," but he said he did not discuss the matter with Martinez. Harkin said he has no complaints about Martinez.
"I really worked in good faith with Senator Martinez on this issue and I found him to be a decent, caring person to work with on this, and so I have a lot of respect for him," Harkin said.
Martinez said Harkin called him about 5 p.m. yesterday and told him that the memo had come from his office. Martinez said he then called in his senior staff and said, "Something is wrong here." He said that Darling later confessed to John Little, Martinez's chief of staff, and that he said he did not think he had ever printed the memo.
‘A working draft’
"It was intended to be a working draft," Martinez said. "He doesn't really know how I got it."
Efforts to reach Darling last night were unsuccessful.
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), a member of the Rules and Administration Committee, wrote to the panel's leaders last week to ask for an investigation into the "document, its source, and how it came to be distributed."
"Those who would attempt to influence debate in the United States Senate should not hide behind anonymous pieces of paper," he said.
A Republican Senate official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not a committee spokesman, said yesterday that an informal inquiry began almost immediately and is likely to be concluded within a week. He said that conversations with senators, aides and reporters have turned up nothing definitive and that the inquiry is likely to end with a letter to Lautenberg saying just that.
Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) said in an interview Friday that he considered it "ludicrous" to suggest that his party created the document and said Republicans were using such talk to divert responsibility.
"I guess the best defense is a good offense -- that's their theory," he said.
In interviews at the Capitol yesterday, senators from both sides said they find the case perplexing, and a sign of the intense partisanship that permeates the building. Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) said that the torrent of accusations reflects the bitterness over the life-and-death issues in the Schiavo case, which he said were a proxy on both sides for what provokes "every other ugly political conversation -- that's abortion."
Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) said he believed that the memo originated with the GOP because it is "totally consistent" with how the Republicans have operated for the past four years. "They just shouldn't lose their memos," he said.

Good morning all!
I have been rather E&T the last few days, but I thought you dear folk deserved an update. I actually had a very positive job interview yesterday morning. I should have asked for vibes, of course...shame on me. But all the vibes I've been storing up must have done the trick, because things seemed to go rather well. With any luck I'll have some more positive news for you all in a few days...
-
Good Morning!
...Before I go back to bed...
::)
I think I slept well even though I don't think I really slept for more than 30-45 minutes at a time. I didn't feel restless, I just didn't feel that sleepy. I was tired, but not sleepy - if that makes sense. In any case...
The rains finally moved in overnight, and it's actually supposed to clear up this afternoon too. So...
And...
Hmmm...
-Yep, I guess I will be heading back to bed for a bit...
;)

Ask BK Day:
Seriously - and I mean "seriously" ;) - If the producers of "American Idol" actually came to their senses and decided to find real expert judges - and not just talking heads - would you consider being a judge?
-
Keeping fingers crossed for all HHWs who are looking for employment. Having a couple of friends going through this right now myself lets me realize how you folks must be feeling. Keep the good thought!
-
The copy of U-571 that my friend asked me to check for him played perfectly in my player over the last couple of days. I did wipe the DVD before I played it; there may have been something on the surface that was interferring with his laser's ability to read the information. At any rate, it played great for me (and it's a well made, exciting picture, too.)
-
Another Ask BK (and DR) Question:
Would you like to be a subject of a "reality program"? "Chasing Kimmel" ;)
Would you like to participate in a "reality program"? (Survivor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, etc.)
-
He also loaned me his copy of DODGEBALL as a forgettable fluff comedy to watch. I may get to that today so I can get the two DVDs back to him.
-
After the first sensational season of THE MOLE, I did apply to be on the next edition. I found it a wonderfully creative and exciting puzzle game show, one that required intelligence and street smarts to get ahead, and I wanted to be a part of it.
There was a ten page questionnaire I had to complete and also had to make a four minute video to show "personality." Alas, I wasn't selected, but surprisingly, a man who had just retired from teaching (just as I had done) WAS chosen to be on the show.
-
Laters...
-
Oh...
If you were the subject of a "reality program", what would like the program to be called? (The Osbournes, Chasing Farrah, etc.)
-
Hisaka thank you for the cherry blossoms. They certainly brightened my morning.
As for td, he has been having a difficult time as his father passed away on March 28th. Fortunately the passing was peaceful.
Td, a very belated condolences on your loss. Even if you don't have much time or energy to post now, know you are in our hearts during this difficult time.

Regardin Jose's Question of the day:
I would love to be on THE AMAZING RACE. It would be a blast to travel to all those different countries. Unfortunately, I don't think I would have the endurance! If it weren't for the diabetes and having to be careful to eat on a regular basis I would actually consider it and be on a team with my good buddy Ron (who is also a TAR fan!).
Ditto for BIG BROTHER and THE MOLE....both are shows I would enjoy competing in.
Of course I could do a reality show in which I attempt to get into show business in India, and it could be called Barnum does Bollywood or Chasing John (Abraham).

Danise, Ginny & Vixmom thanks, fortunately my toe doesn’t feel broken today, just tender.

DR TD, I had no idea what you were going through. Please accept my condolences on the passing away of your father. I am so sorry to hear about that. :'(
Please take care!
-
Ann-you sound very hopeful, but this can’t hurt, so CONTINUED GOOD JOB VIBES!
Matt H. was it a baby girl or boy, and who was taken away? Do you mean as in gone forever?
Vixmom from my Craig & niece thanks for the vibes. :)
-
And yes I would be pleased to be a judge on American Idol (although I have never seen the show) if they would give me the same paycheck as they give Simon and/or Paula!!
-
Tomovoz, did you email me about lorikeets? If so, AOL has decided it does not like your email. The only time I have been able to open it, it was completely blank inside (not even a "to" and "from", which is most unusual). After that first time, I couldn't even get it to open. I hate AOL as much as Elmore hates DST (which I also hate).
-
What was that half-hour syndicated show that used to run in (I think) the 80s that was American Idol like? It usually had 3 celebrity judges, and I remember the singers came out on a runway to sing, with the judges sitting below them, kind of like Miss America. I remember seeing Sergio Mendes on an episode and thinking he had really yellow teeth!! :)

I have always wondered who it was who bought the frozen peas in the vegetable section of the frozen food aisles. Every time I've eaten with friends who served peas, they've always told me they were canned peas.
I've used frozen peas for a seven-layer salad (uncooked), but I don't think most people buy them for that reason.
Peas, peas,
Peas, peas,
Eatin' frozen peas..

Tomovoz, did you email me about lorikeets? If so, AOL has decided it does not like your email.
Perhaps AOL thinks they're an endangered species....
...or perhaps wants to spare indigenous fowl any undue stress from competitors?????

Re: "Lost"
Claire's baby is a boy.
Given the nature of the island, I'm not certain -- at this point -- that the person who died is "gone" gone.
If Locke can walk, and a little boy's imagination can create monsters, can the dead be truly thought dead for good???????
It will be interesting, I think.....
-
Tomovoz, as Gilda Radner would say, "never mind." Got it to open after rebooting AOL. Check your email. ;)
-
Has anyone else been getting inundated with virus emails over the past couple of days--you know, the usual suspects with headers like "Latest Microsoft Security Patch," etc. I don't even open them--they go right in the trash.
-
The "dead" character on LOST was on the talk shows this morning, and his/her character is indeed dead. The actor/actress has been given a one year deal at ABC for series development, and he/she has been cast in the lead of an indie film that ABC is co-financing.
Now, that's not to say the character won't appear in backstories for other characters next season.
I hate to say anything specific for fear of ruining surprises for folks who want to catch the show this summer or on DVD next fall when Season 1 is released.
-
Many condolences, DR td. This morning was the first I had heard about your father's passing. Having lost my father in 2000, I know what you must be feeling. My thoughts are with you.
-
I liked THE MOLE because it was much more a mental game than a physical game (though there were occasionally physical challenges but nothing to compare with what folks have to do on SURVIVOR). You also were in Europe at 3 and 4 star hotels as long as you were in the game. Very, very nice accommodations for the folks who continued to stay in the game.
-
Ron thanks for the info on LOST.
I do eat frozen peas when fresh peas are out of season. I always keep them in the frig and it turns out they make a very comfortable ice pack. Looking at my quote I see I wrote I’m a clutch, :-[not a klutz. I sure hope there isn’t some deeper meaning to my error. ;D
-
Matt H. thanks for the continued details and the interview info.
-
After three days of spring/early summer weather, the rain has returned with a vengeance. It's also much cooler today, too.
-
Well, I actually saw the end of ALIAS this week. Not sure what is up with that (I'm assuming it went over 10pm). But I did see it, so YEAH!
I thought LOST was very gory.
And as for IDOL, I really didn't like Nikko too much. But when it came down to him and Scott, I was definitely hoping Scott would go. So I was sort of sad.
I was shocked that Vonzell and Nikko were in the bottom 3. It is almost like the viewers were purposely trying to spite paula and randy. I know those two (vonzell and nikko) were not that popular in the beginning. But I thought they have been getting better (especially Vonzell).
I really don't get how America votes. We keep having totally different people in the bottom week after week (I would think the same fans would vote for their favorites every week).
-
Definite good job vibes for DRs Ann and Rodzinski. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Did any of you TAR fans see last night's review show?
I actually loved it! My favorite summary shows are where they summarize what has happened, with all new footage. It makes the show more interesting. Because you are seeing what already happened, but from a different point of view.
My favorite was after Rob and Amber and stolen the girls' cab. Rob was doing this as payback because they called him a liar. Well the girls didn't know that romber stole the cab. So when they arrived (after getting a new cab) they went over to rob and said how sorry they were for calling him a liar (the one girl said how she had been so overtired and hungry).
Ha, too funny! :)
Anyhow, excellent episode.
-
Looking at my quote I see I wrote I’m a clutch, :-[not a klutz. I sure hope there isn’t some deeper meaning to my error. ;D
Well, it could mean that when you are depressed, the world switches gears!
;)
-
DRJENNIFER - I enjoyed the "roundup" TAR as well.
I also really liked THE MOLE (not THE CELEBRITY MOLE) - but the original like everyone else. And I didn't figure it out!
I would love to be on TAR - DR RON and I have decided we should do it, but I do not have the stamina either and would hate to be humiliated in front of the nation - or that part of that watches TAR.
-
I am pretty sure that was the commercial, MR BK.
-
MAMMA MIA! here I go again, my my.... I have been listening to the music so I will be ready for Sunday!
Yes, as DRJOSE reported, it is a rainy day here in Indiana.
No word on the job front as yet - so I am sending my success vibes to DR ANN and DR RODZINSKI. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did pick up a small gig - the Phoenix Theatre is doing ROUNDING THIRD about a couple of Little League dads, and for some reason they have to learn to do the Macarena. So I will be teaching it to them Saturday. My hope is they can count to four and have SOME rhythm. If so, we are in like Flynn (an Angela Lansbury reference).
-
My question for ASK BK day. When did you get a color TV in your family, and what were some of your favorite color television programs?
-
Ask BK Day:
Seriously - and I mean "seriously" ;) - If the producers of "American Idol" actually came to their senses and decided to find real expert judges - and not just talking heads - would you consider being a judge?
If they crossed my palm with enough silver, sure. The show would be better off having judges who definitely had personality, but who also knew their stuff. Much more interesting that way.
-
Well, it could mean that when you are depressed, the world switches gears!
;)
You clever boy you!!
-
Another Ask BK (and DR) Question:
Would you like to be a subject of a "reality program"? "Chasing Kimmel" ;)
Would you like to participate in a "reality program"? (Survivor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, etc.)
No, I would not like to be the subject of a reality program, although, if you think about it, I almost am here at haineshisway.com.
No, I would never participate in a reality program, other than the little hidden camera things for Penn and Teller.
-
As far as I can recall we always had a color TV. In family photos of when I was a baby I have seen a color tv in the background, so from at least 1964 on we were in color.
-
Are you going to see the Jack Benny Poem today as spoke about in the notes.
HIGH AND LOW sounds fascinating! As does THE DANCING MILLIONAIRESS. I am watching Miss Lee Remick and Mr James Garner in THE WHEELER DEALERS. She so beautiful!
-
GOOD toe vibes to DR JANE.
-
Oh, JRand, you have not seen HIGH AND LOW? You would really enjoy it! And it stars Ms. Kyoko Kagawa, star of MOTHRA!
Some day I will spring for the DVD.
-
My question for ASK BK day. When did you get a color TV in your family, and what were some of your favorite color television programs?
I was 12 or 13 whenwe got our first color TV. I cannot remember any regular series that we were particularly fond of seeing in color, but the first year that we finally saw the annual 'Wizard of Oz' showing and the movie turns to color when she lands in OZ...WOW!!! Our dad had described that moment to us for years but finally seeing it! We also loved watching the NBC logo.. the peacock spreading out all its colored feathers!!
This reminds me.. when the Vixter was about 3 or four she asked me how old I was "when the world got colored in" it took me a while to figure out that my mom had been showing her my childhood photograghs which were all in black and white until I turned about 8 and my father finally got the color film camera. ;D
-
LOLLYGAG!
My favorite commercials that I personally acted in: There was one brilliant clothing commercial (can't remember the brand). It aired twice, both times on a Grammy awards broadcast if I remember correctly. I was the salesman, and a gorgeous girl was trying on a form-fitting top. Let us say she had, as some wags put it, nice knockers, which were nicely displayed by the form-fitting top. She's looking in the mirror - you can also see me looking at her looking in the mirror. I'm doing one of "my" looks. She then says the company slogan, "Gee, you can feel the fit." I do one of my "eye" things, very subtle, and then say, "I can?" End of commercial. They refused to air it, however, in that form. They made them cut the line, "I can?" So, what you are left with is her saying, "You can feel the fit" and me doing a look and my subtle eye thing. Note to censors: MUCH nastier that way.
Other favorite: RC Cola commercial. I'm on the beach, lying in the sand with a beautiful babe in a bikini. To impress her, I say to my dog, "Murphy, fetch my RC." I then turn my attention back to the babe. Meanwhile, this amazing dog goes and catches several cans of RC (amazing stuff), and brings them back to me. An annoyed musculuar hunk is suddenly standing over me. He looks at Murphy, and says, "Mister, is that your dog?" I do my subtle eye thing and say, "Dog? What dog?"
Two side notes about the above: Instead of dubbing me for the Spanish version of the commercial, I told them I could do a really good accent, and they taught me the lines in Spanish and I did it, and that's the way it aired on the Mexican channels. "Perro? Qual perro?"
Side note two: When it had been airing for about three months, I got a letter from a nice lady, saying her daughter was completely in love with me, and was there any way I could send her a photograph. As I read on, however, I began to realize she was talking about the hunk, not me. I wrote her quite an amusing response, and sent her a photo with a funny inscription. She wrote me back a great note.

I think we got our first color TV somewhere around 1963 or 4. Can't really remember for sure.
-
And about td's father's passing. I think I owe td and everyone an apology - he e-mailed me about it, and if I remember correctly, asked me to post something about it. I was in the midst of a bunch of stuff, and I see now I wrote myself a note about it on a piece of paper near the Powerbook, but I think it got away from me.
-
I'll try to get to the Benny poem after lunch - it's quite long.

Today's charming question from a prospective eBay buyer department:
Is your Ben Hur silent video really mint? Is it the one in the picture?
I have to sit on my hands not to fire off a completely sarcastic response, which of course they would never get anyway.
-
JMK - you know how it is when you are a buyer on EBAY? LOL....sometimes you just have to ask, you know.
-

I have returned items to sellers who did not ship to me the items they pictured. I had no reason to believe the picture wasn't the item being sold...or that it was in no way representative of the item being sold since the seller did not give any other indication.
Better to ask than be disappointed and inconvenienced!

I would love to be on TAR - DR RON and I have decided we should do it, but I do not have the stamina either and would hate to be humiliated in front of the nation - or that part of that watches TAR.
What? You're pooping out on me? What's a little humiliation for a little infamy??????
If I could take time off from work I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I managed to trek all over Europe on trains and planes and ferries...and did it a few times without all the correct paperwork.
Of course, that was back in the 1970s...so, I may be a little worse for wear...

That's what feedback is for! ::)
-
Although I must say that the feedback system is seriously flawed, too. My only 2 negatives (out of almost 1000 feedbacks) were from:
1. A seller who charged me $10 to insure a package, then didn't insure it. I very politely asked for the return of my insurance fee. She immediately left me a negative (she had tons of negatives, though--I should have never have bid on her item).
2. A buyer who left me negative because I hadn't shipped his item after his check was returned for NSF. Oy.
And maybe some other eBayers got the email last night from movie memorabilia mogul Bruce Hershenson--eBay suspended him yesterday for completely bogus reasons. This is a guy that lists thousands of items a week.
-
Another Ask BK (and DR) Question:
Would you like to be a subject of a "reality program"? "Chasing Kimmel" ;)
Would you like to participate in a "reality program"? (Survivor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, etc.)
Maybe a "Boy Meets Boy" kinda show. ;)
-
Why did they suspend Hershenson?
-
Gotta run to a closing- (my life is so boring I couldn't pay anybody to do a reality show based on me!) laters
-
Why did they suspend Hershenson?
A few (as in 4 or 5 out of the tens of thousands he's listed through the years) did not meet their "Vero" standards. He specifically mentioned the poster for the film version of "Mein Kampf" as an example. Also, his computer tech was bidding on some of his items and eBay thought it was a shill bidder. Bruce contacted them privately and they said it was fine for one his employees to bid, but that that employee should use someone else's eBay ID. So that's what that employee has been doing for years. Well now eBay is saying it is a gross violation of their rules. Bruce is deciding whether to appeal or just start his own auction site. I really don't sell very much--just old videos, CDs and LPs for the most part, but I have to say eBay's customer service is on a level with AOL, if you catch my drift.
-
TD, I was very sorry to hear about your father. My condolences to you and your family.
-
Yes, it was a very strange email from Mr Hershenson. EBAY must be making tons of money from him. He also mentioned that he had been very vocal about some of EBAY's dealings with him on a couple of boards and that may be why he was suspended.
I think he should just start his own site for his items, although that would be a pain.
-
MR BK - I have forwarded you a copy of the email we received from Hershenson.
-
Email returned with a fatal error. Oh my!
-
Here it is:
This is Bruce Hershenson. This morning (April 6th), without
warning, eBay closed all of my 1,500+ newly listed items, and called me to
tell me I was about to be "indefinitely suspended from eBay". I asked if I
could have an hour to appeal this decision to eBay, and was told that was
impossible.
Thirty minutes later all the auctions were closed and my account
now reads "not a registered user". This after 160,000+ sales in five
years, with 110,000 positive feedbacks (against only 12 negatives, likely
an eBay record!).
I called eBay and was told that I had been indefinitely suspended
because I had "repeatedly violated their rules" (selling items that were in
their VERO program, selling items not allowed, such as a "Mein Kampf" movie
poster, etc) and that they believed they had located a second account that
I was using to place bids on my items, and that this, combined with my many
past offenses, was why I was being "indefinitely suspended from eBay".
Let me explain about the second account. My main computer expert
is Phillip Wages and he is a poster collector. When Phillip started
working for me four years ago, he started bidding on a few of my items, to
add to his collection.
This worked out fine for a few months, until eBay called me and
told me he could not bid on my items using his own name. The person
explained that what mattered was the appearance of impropriety. I asked
what would be the difference if Phillip had a friend bid on items for him,
and the person said that would be fine, as long as he wasn't bidding
through his own account.
Phillip began to bid with a friend's account. Over the next
couple of years he purchased items on this account for his collection. He
also used this account to place some bids for people who did not register
for our major auctions in time, giving those who had missed registering the
chance to bid.
I feel that this bidding on Phillip's part was sanctioned by eBay,
given that they said he could bid through a friend's account and he did.
As to the "numerous other violations" the eBay employee cited,
they were all minor items where I unknowingly violated one of their many
confusing rules, and in every case I chose to let eBay end the auction
rather that contest their ruling, even though I believed it to be incorrect
in almost all cases, for I might well have spent hours writing many e-mails
to get them to allow me to sell a five or ten dollar item. But now they
are saying those "violations" make me a "repeat offender", so maybe I
should have fought each and every one of them.
Somehow eBay has now decided that Phillip's bidding was in
violation of their policy (even though he bid via the method their employee
suggested) and the "numerous other violations" (commonplace among all high
volume sellers) were never an issue at all, until they served eBay's need
to now suspend me indefinitely.
I can't help but feel that this ruling on eBay's part is directly
connected to my public criticism of some of their methods for the past two
years. The past month I have posted to a "super-PowerSellers" eBay
discussion board, and I wonder if my candid posts there are not directly
the reason for my "indefinitely suspension from eBay"!
Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. I have made it clear that
I have long wanted to sell somewhere other that eBay. Maybe this is the
time to make this move. I am considering three options:
1) I can appeal to eBay and see if they will reverse their unfair
action.
2) I can begin selling on another auction site, just as I did from
1990 to 2000 with Christie's and Howard Lowery.
3) I can invest in auction software and auction from my own site.
I will take a few days and decide which course of action to
follow. In the meantime, I want to thank the hundreds of you who have
already contacted me voicing your support (news travels fast!). Many of
you have asked what you can do to help, and honestly, right now there is
nothing that needs be done. I firmly believe this is a momentary glitch in
the big scheme of things, and that ultimately everything will surely work
out for the best.
Of course I will e-mail you again once I have more news to report!
Bruce Hershenson

Charming email #2 from a prospective eBay buyer department:
(Regarding the VHS of Hawaii):
What does uncut roadshow widescreen version mean?
-
LOL.....just tell him all of Annette's scenes are intact and he will be happy.
-
I got Hershenson's e-mail yesterday, as well...kind of sad..he sells a lot of nifty items!
I dealt with one seller whose feedback was in the 100,000 range...so I figured, hmmm must be ok. Well I should have looked closer...he had over 10,000 negatives! Why would ebay allow him to continue???...and of course the item I bid on, and won, was an item that the seller didn't even have in stock to sell...so, of course, I received nothing. I did get my money returned, but what a pain in the neck, and why list it if you don't even have the item?
I left him a negative.
-
Well the new latest word is the DVD of Hawaii is the cut version. Damn, damn, damn.
-
I think I posted about Hawaii when I got the DVD two weeks ago. It is indeed the cut version, but runs two hours and forty-seven minutes (with overture and exit music) - about twenty minutes shy of the roadshow release. That said, I can barely get through the shorter version.
Jrand, there is some screwy thing going on between our host and AOL, so their forwarding system through the site is just bouncing everything back. HOWEVER, when that first started happening (about eight months ago) we implemented a safeguard and everything is also forwarded to my adelphia account - so even though it looks like it bounced, I'm still getting all e-mail that goes to bruce@haineshisway.com.
-
I must have missed your post. Well I just cancelled my VHS auction. Betsy & I love Hawaii, every last interminable minute of it. :) We're usually swollen faced crybabies by that final scene.
-
If they crossed my palm with enough silver, sure. The show would be better off having judges who definitely had personality, but who also knew their stuff. Much more interesting that way.
Re: The American Idol judges.
Don't Paula, Simon and Randy know their stuff? Paula was a popular singer, and Randy and Simon produce and are involved with some top albums/singers.
And I definitely think they have personality.
Btw, for those who have commented on Paula's behavior. She has been on ET a lot, and she always seems extremely professional and with it. In fact I believe she was the co-host last night.
-
MR BK there is a "reality" series on BRAVO this season (previously on HBO) called Project Greenlight that is interesting. This year John Gulager, son of Clu, is directing a "horror" film for Dimension films. Right now they are in the casting process.
You might find it interesting if you haven't seen it. It is on right now and again tonight.
-
JMK - so you are keeping your widescreen uncut roadshow VHS instead of getting the cut DVD?
-
Re: being on AMAZING RACE
I think it's probably much harder than it seems. I wish they would focus on this aspect of it. I believe that the contestants get very little sleep and very little to eat. I'm surprised more of them don't lose it!
-
I am sure we don't see MOST of what they go through. Traveling is one of the MOST exahausting things to do, let alone adding all those challenges!
-

Ya, that lack of sleep would make me a grumpy contestant...and I always wonder how they are able to drive and get anywhere when they are so tired!
-

I don't know, I always thought they ate and slept a lot during their 12 hour pit stop. And then they can sleep again during their flights. I'm curious how long each episode lasts in real time. I mean it seems like they do 12 hours of activities and then 12 hours of rest. But I suppose it must be much more than that for them to be so hungry and tired.
But why can't they eat while they are driving?
And when/where do they use the bathroom?
-
Tonight is Apprentice and Survivor. Not sure if anyone here watches the latter, but there have been some interesting commercials floating around. One has Ian telling Tom that the final four will be them, katie and Steph (from the other tribe!). And the voiceover says, "is there a secret alliance with someone from the other tribe? (steph)"
What is that about?

Do they know their stuff? Well, I suppose you might as well ask if every Hollywood suit isn't a master of filmmaking decisions. They know "some" stuff, but their personal tastes are not any better than yours or mine. Every risk has the potential for failure...and there are plenty of Simons and Randys and Paulas out there with failures and successes. It's a crapshoot...and they don't have any better taste or talent-seeking skills than Joe Blow from Kokomo.
And if you are listening to the things they are saying, you'd have to question the perceptions they have of what constitutes good performances and bad.
Paula has, for the past few weeks, been all gooey and slurry and strange. It is apparent to many people that she's being affected by some form of drug or alcohol intake.
I think you are overrating their personalities. I personally find Simon totally lacking in personality. Randy's personality is marginal, at best, as is his taste. That he found Nikko the best performer the past three weeks in a row says volumes about his tastes, IMO. Paula was a minor "star" for a short time in the music world. And it wasn't for producing or writing or discovering new talent.
Simon's major claim to fame is The Spice Girls. And he disses them every chance he gets. He is very wealthy, too, so he's obviously made good investments and gotten some strong partners to help keep him there. To my knowledge, he's never written a song, discovered a major talent or done any form of significant production work.
Randy has "worked with" many big names. But it isn't his voice singing the songs or his name on the song credits they sing.
They're all in the business, but they aren't terribly busy at the moment...except with this show.
-
I don't know, I always thought they ate and slept a lot during their 12 hour pit stop. And then they can sleep again during their flights.
Who can sleep when they are traveling? I rarely do and what I get is never enough.
-
Finally, the cover to my Danny Kaye album.
-
We got our first color TV in 1966 and it was specifically for the family to watch BATMAN. It was SO pop-art colorful and wild, and we couldn't wait to see it that way. We had seen BONANZA and Disney in color on some friends' TV up the street, but we didn't care about seeing anything in color but BATMAN. Of course, we quickly began to enjoy many, many shows which were around then transitioning to color. All three networks each ran its own little color cue right before any show that was being shown in color. (NBC's was the famouns peacock, CBS had the eye sliding across the CBS letters and changing them to color. ABC's was the blandest of the three networks with the letters A-B-C sort of changing colors.)
-
They also tape the "interviews" we see during the pit stops, so they don't have a lot of time.
DRJENNIFER - Survivor was a good idea, but I don't like the execution, and haven't seen an entire episode of the series since the first season. I don't watch THE APPRENTICE because I don't like Donald Trump.
-
Hey Gang! Thanks for the vibes. All seemed to go well, it seemed like a cool place and I felt like I acquitted myself nicely . Now I'll just forget about it for awhile so I don't get my hopes up and drive myself batty.
Funny thing: I was on my way to the subway to go down there, and I noticed I had forgotten my tie, left it in a drawer in my office. I phoned a co-worker and she brought it down to the street, I walked by and took it from her like it was the secret microfilm or something. Then I walked into a cleaner's shop and asked if I could use their mirror.
JRand- Vibes back at ya. You should try to watch HARD CONTRACT when Fox Movie Channel shows it. Another great teaming of Remick and Coburn. With Burgess Meredith and Sterling Hayden as well. Remick looks like a goddess in parts of this movie. It's a cerebral, oddball film.
THE MOLE was the thinking man's reality show. I enjoyed that first season, then ABC seemed like they didn't want to air it anymore. Then the celebrity garbage version.
-
That's what feedback is for! ::)
Rolling eyes, JMK? Seriously? If you mean them with the same "oh, brother!" sarcasm you've implied you wish you had directed at questions from potential buyers, then I'm saddened that you used them.
The folks who sent the wrong items had perfect feedback records. There was no reason to be suspicious until the wrong item arrived.
I ALWAYS check feedback. And it almost always works out well. But there are a few times it doesn't. And when it doesn't you ASK QUESTIONS.
I think the first question you cited was a reasonable one -- probably came from someone who had been previously burned by a seller showing a like-new item and then passing off something used and/or shoddy. It DOES happen and a seller would be stupid NOT to ask.
It's not an attack against you, personally.

Good Afternoon!
Well, I got a nice "nap" in - about two hours or so. Then I headed out to run some errands, and now I'm back here watching TV - I really am a Food Network addict. ;)
The rain wasn't too bad while I was out driving, but the potholes... YIKES! There's one big one right at the intersection to turn into the hotel. Watch out!!!
The forecast for the weekend is for nicer weather - Yeah! I've asked to have to car tomorrow morning, and I'm guessing I shall be doing some exploring then. I'm not sure I'll head downtown, but I may drive through it and around just to check out the skyline. And, yes, I will have a few culinary stop to make along the way. :)
-
A friend of mine and his brother have applied for the next edition of THE AMAZING RACE. I'm sure they have many thousands of entries, but Ken and his brother are hopeful. Ken's a world traveler who never stays in hotels when he travels to China or India, but improvs his accommodations, so TAR would be right up his alley, in fact, probably luxurious compared to what he's used to doing.

DR td - My condolences to you and your family.
-
Rodzinski I haven’t seen HARD CONTRACT since it came out and I still remember how strikingly beautiful Lee Remick was in the movie. Is it going to be on Fox in the near future?
I’m glad you are pleased now with the atmosphere at work-hope it only gets better with time. :)
-
DR MBarnum - As for Barnum Does Hollywood... I'd pay to see that movie! Heck, I pay to MAKE that movie!!!
;D
And as for your diabetes... I'm thinking that would kind of give you an edge among potential contestants. I've never seen the application, so I'm not sure what types of restrictions they have in regard to pre-existing health conditions, but the additional challenge of monitoring and maintaining your blood sugar could be considered a plus. -And I'm sure the Diabetes Foundation would appreciate the publicity too.
-
As for first color TV... Hmm... I believe my family always had a color TV - at least to my "limited" memory. However, I do recall that our main TV was a large B&W console - that sucker was heavy! And it lasted for years! It was "my TV" for a year or two. I don't think we had a larger color TV until I was about 10-11 years old - and that may have coincided with the purchase of our first VCR, a JVC, the top-loading one with the big buttons.
-
Continued VIBEage, DR Rodzinksi.
-
Thoughts to td....
-
Oh yes, the potholes. Well after all, DRJOSE, we have more important things to worry about....I.E. a new and bigger stadium for the Colts!
-
Sounds good DR RODZINSKI.
-
Soon it will be summer in Ashland-just dreaming on this rainy day.
-
And continuing the "reality TV" theme...
If such programs existed during the "golden age" of theatre, film and TV, which celebrity - or even "non-celebrity" would you like to have a camera on 24/7?
I have a feeling I know how two particular DRs would answer that question.... And they would have the same answer!
;)
-

Jane, it doesn't appear to be on this month's schedule, but it shows every now and then. I'll let you know if I see it coming. I watch that channel all the time.
We had a color tv my whole life, but we had a b&w down in the basement, and when I was eventually allowed to have that in my room, it was quite the luxury!
-
Our family TV didn't have a remote, and since I sat closest to the set, I became the remote!
-
A remote with legs....yes we had one of those in our family as well.
Lovely photo DRJANE!
-
And continuing the "reality TV" theme...
I have a feeling I know how two particular DRs would answer that question.... And they would have the same answer!
;)
Yes, that's probably true! ;D

Jane, I stayed at the hotel just behind your photo. If you were to walk up the left side of the street behind the plaza it was one more block up on the left. The Plaza had a nice cappucino walk-through place when I was there--I remember getting a very good mocha. And that park across the street is cute, too.
-
I found this story in our local paper funny, well not the story but the writing of it. There was an interesting article on the end of an eight-year stint without a homicide in Ashland. The story ends with the following statement of a man who killed his wife and then fled Ashland. Two days later he was found in a shopping center parking lot. “He apparently committed suicide by killing himself”. I suppose he could have hired someone to do it for him-LOL
-
RLP, the point of my first post about eBay questions was: if I had lied about the item being mint in my description (which is really what is implied by the buyer's question), why for heaven's sake would I suddenly tell the truth if someone asked me if it were really mint?
-
Thank you Rodzinski.
JMK how long ago did you stay here? Do you remember if it was the Mark Antony you stayed at?
-
RE: "Project Greenlight" - I watched the first season of it when it started on HBO. I like it. It had it's moments - and I still keep meaning to look up the film that got made that season. Very interesting that Bravo picked it up, but, sadly, another sign of Bravo's continual "evolution". Remember the days when they actually had Arts programming? I loved catching all the South Bank Shows. And, of course, when they started showing commercials... ah, well....
-
How quickly we take things for granted. DR Rodzinski mentioning the remote reminded me I didn't have a remote of any kind until I bought my first VCR, and it was a a corded remote with one button so you could pause the player or let it run. That was it!
Now, next to my recliner, I have a remote caddy with six remotes in it.
-
The South Bank Show was fantastic! I taped their hour on Noel Coward, and it's the best documentary on his life I've ever seen. Same with their hour on Al Jolson. Beautifully done. I taped it, too.
-
Thank you Rodzinski.
JMK how long ago did you stay here? Do you remember if it was the Mark Antony you stayed at?
It was the year I met Betsy. In fact, it was the week after our first date!! I took a weeklong driving trip all through central and southern Oregon (in the old Cadillac I had gotten from my father, LOL), and then drove all the way up the coast. I can't remember what it was. It was a two story motel with a pool and I remember the parking lot kind of was up on the bluff and overlooked the rest of the street (heading up towards the left in your photo). I want to say it was something like a Holiday Inn, but I don't think that's it.
-
Yes, the second season of THE MOLE, the season that I had applied to be on, ran three episodes and was then taken off due to low ratings (they had moved it to Friday night). The next summer, ABC burned off the episodes, but we did at least get to see the show. It didn't have the snap and fun of the first edition, but I didn't guess who the mole was in either edition of the show.
-
My first color TV was in 1968 or 1969. Sometime before we got married Keith insisted I get one for my apartment. It was the beginning of a life with Keith and the need for the best technology available if we could afford it or not. ;D
-
JMK either the hotel no longer exists or it was to the right of the Plaza and is now the Bard's Inn.
-
It was the beginning of a life with Keith and the need for the best technology available if we could afford it or not. ;D
Well, yeah! You've got to have SOMETHING to show off to the neighbors! ;)
-
td, my condolences...

Maybe someone can explain the logic behind this best-yet question just received from an eBay buyer department:
Re: the 50th Anniversary edition VHS with booklet of Wizard of Oz (listing includes complete Muse information, all the stars, information on the sepia and Technicolor segments).
Is your Wizard of Oz video the one that's black on white (sic) all the way through?
-
LOLLYGAG!
Back from luncheon with Miss Tammy Minoff. It was fun to hear her thoughts on my new tome, which she does indeed like the best of all my books. She went into quite some detail about her favorite moments and characters - she's just a real honest to goodness reader, and she retains an amazing amount of detail and was really specific in a way that truly surprised me. Anyway, felt good to hear.
No packages today.
-
Is your Wizard of Oz video the one that's black on white (sic) all the way through?
It just occurred to me, DRMB you don't have a "private video" of you with that Duncan fellow on eBay right now, do you? :o
-
RLP, the point of my first post about eBay questions was: if I had lied about the item being mint in my description (which is really what is implied by the buyer's question), why for heaven's sake would I suddenly tell the truth if someone asked me if it were really mint?
The potential buyer would then have correspondence from you in which you lied...and he could provide that to EBay and get restitution for the bad transaction and EBay would have something with which to take action against you.
It is still in his best interest to ask.
I know it must be frustrating to get all those questions you find quite dumb, stupid and moronic.
Those people are folks who may not know what the terminology (uncut roadshow, etc.) means...they're "our" aunts and uncles and cousins and brothers and sisters..and friends.
But I get it...I do. They're too stupid to live. They're to be mocked at all costs. How dumb they are. Ha. Ha-ha-ha.
:-\
-
I am very sorry about your dad, TD.
And vibes to everyone who needs them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am very tired. I think I'm about to fall asleep. Probably because I didn't get a Cherry Coke this morning. I'd better go get one now before I have to go to Rhetoric.
-
Interesting day: good editorial work on BABESIN TOYAND, but my research calls to the University of Wisconsin and Eastman School of Music libraries concernng their Tams-Witmark collections turned up nothing helpful. On the plus side, it means no traveling, but I've got questions I need answered!
I also received two packages from Amazon.uk: autobiographies by actors John Fraser and Denis Quilley. I'm still waiting for the new John Schlesinger bio to show up.
-
As for frozen peas... Always. Canned ones have always been way too mushy for me. Although a can of Veg-All has been known to come through in a pinch from time to time - whatever that means. ;) I think the only vegetables I buy canned are tomatoes. -And, yes, I know, technically, they are a fruit...

Jane, I think maybe it was the Bard's Inn and I'm turned around in your picture, LOL. It was the first motel you came to as you entered town. I remember the Unity Church was on the right driving in then down a few more blocks was this hotel on the left. Unless of course, that's completely wrong. ::)
-
Well...it is if you watch it on a b/w tv, isn't it?
-
RLP, I don't know who your connections at eBay are, but I can tell you I have never been able to "get restitution" for a bad eBay buy even when I have not gotten the item, even when I have copious emails from the seller. That goes double for PayPal purchases. They do absolutely nothing (in my experience), even when you file a fraud claim. And using the eBay "Safe Harbor" system is a joke, as many others here will attest (including BK who has posted about this vociferously through the years). I think all of us who use eBay would appreciate you educating us as to how "restitution" can be gotten, because I sure as heck haven't figured it out.
Sorry you seem to have taken so seriously (waaaay seriously) what were meant to be passingly amusing comments. I think those that know me personally from this board will attest to the fact that I am a kind and caring individual. I have looked over my comments and see nothing indicative of saying anybody is "too stupid to live," and the other comments you ascribe to me. However comments like "black on white version of Wizard of Oz" are simply too cherche to pass up, IMHO. ;D

That's almost what I thought this person meant. I was incredibly restrained in my response, if I do say so myself. :)

That is it. We stayed there on our second trip to Ashland.
-
JR, have you seen the new "autographed picture of Frances Farmer" signed by Boris Karloff? (I'm sure it's a mistaken double listing, I emailed the seller). ;D
-
BK, do you have copies of your commercials?
-
Hi Larry. I've just been listening/watching Ron Raines sing "Gigi". A wonderful performance.
I hate to disagree with you, Tom, but if you refer to Ron's performance on Favo(u)rite Broadway (Love Songs) I find him ill at ease during the song and find that too when listening to the cd;and G.d knows if I'm fond of Ron's voice!
Oh... well....
-
Dear BK and my fellow Dear Readers,
Which flavor Tootsie Roll Pop do you prefer? I am eating a raspberry Tootsie Roll Pop right now with my Cherry Coke.
Rhetoric isn't so bad if I bring a lot of candy with me.

I have had zero troubles with PayPal. And you're right...it isn't eBay, but PayPal that has a program that guarantees the sale. I've turned to PayPal on two occasions and each time received fast, helpful service. I followed their recommendations and got assurances that if the seller did not wish to reimburse me they would replace my funds. Each time, the seller reimbursed.
There was no magic to it. I simply followed their procedure.
I used hyperbole in my last post, admittedly. I never attributed those comments to you directly...they described the impressions I got from your assortment of samples.
My impressions of you have always been as you described yourself above...that you are a kind and caring person. It's why I was so surprised at the sharing of comments that I construed as poking furn at "dumb comments" from "dumb buyers."
I don't know what you believe you are indicating when you use ::), but to me it means the user is being very "patient" with someone he or she holds in some form of contempt.
I was backhanded a few times as a youngster for rolling my eyes.
Probably a few others have that association with rolling eyes, too.
I've never sold on eBay, so perhaps you'll forgive my thin skin on the subject of "buyers." I'm sure I've overreacted. Hope it didn't offend anyone "too" much.

JMK haven't seen the Frances/Boris photo. I will check.
Bad news dept:
Actress Debralee Scott passed away Tuesday evening in Florida. Loved her as Cathy Shumway in MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN.

Oh, she was on KOTTER as well! Gee.
-
Yup - Hotsy Totsy herself!
-
Re: PayPal. I have never received a refund from PayPal itself, despite their promises of "buyer protection." On one occasion a seller did refund my money when I began the claim process. I have an open claim right now involving a seller who has admitted she hasn't shipped the item (almost a month after I paid). Nothing has happened and I don't expect anything will.
-
Oh, my goodness. Debralee Scott is someone I knew VERY very well. I met her because she was understudying Betsy Slade when I did Forget-Me-Not Lane at the Taper. We hung out quite a bit, dated for awhile. I've seen her many times over the years - the last time a couple of years ago. I still have the card she handed to me at that time (she was managing people, if I remember correctly). Weird at times, but very nice. Shocking. What did she die of.
I just spent five hours heating the pool and was about to go for a swim. It just started drizzling. Unbelievable.
I do have copies of some of my commercials in 16mm. I should have them transfered at some point. I also have the complete uncut Dirty Harry Strikes Back sequence from The Creature Wasn't Nice - the version that's in Naked Space is missing its entire middle section, which features the great Kenneth Tobey as the Mayor. I probably have five or six of my commercials. I also have my final commercial (the Energizer Bunny with Rip Torn) on tape somewhere.

Her 52nd birthday was five days ago!!!!

Do any Poirot fans like the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries? I've never seen any and am wondering if they're comparable to Poirot.
-
Debralee was, as I recall, also a regular on Angie, on which I did a guest shot.
-
Dearest Tony Dale:
I am so sorry tp hear about the passing of your father. That past couple of years you have been a tower of strength looking after both your parents. It is not the easiest thing to do. I feel for you and if there is anything I can do for you please let me know.
Michael
-
Which Lord Peter Whimseys? The early ones with Ian Carmichael or the later ones with Edward Peherbridge. I liked them both...but it's been awhile since I've seen either.
Debralee used to do the Ray Courts show a lot? What was the cause of death?

Sorry, not sure. I'm just curious how the production design and complexity of the mysteries stack up.
Is that Doris Roberts in the middle of that photo?

Yes

The Lord Peter Whimsey production value in the second series with Petherbridge stack up to Poirot. Very period and elegant. I think they do in the Carmichael ones too, though those go back to the sixties or early seventies...so my memory is more hazy. Both series are based on the Dorothy Sayers' books and are multi- episode mysteries, so they are fairly detailed and complex.

From alt.obituaries
Scott moved to north Florida to help care for her sister.
"I talked to her Saturday on her birthday," said Herman. "A week before, she
mysteriously went into a coma for three days. She woke from it joking with
the nurses. She told me the nurse kept asking her, 'Do you know where you
are?' She replied, 'Obviously, I'm in the hopsital.'"
Doctors apparently could not determine a reason for the coma

This page on the Game Show Network fan site seems to have the most information about Debralee. Scroll down to the second story.
Myterious and sad. :'(

While browsing the TV Guide earlier, I noticed that TV Guide has released a series of DVD boxed sets - "Classic Comedies" - or something like that. Sort of like a Best Of The Best Of. Any opinions?
-
DRJoSE aren't you supposed to be at the theatre by now?
-
...And on the local news here in Indy, they broadcast a very nice story on Ryan White. It's been 15 years since he died, and he would have been 34 years old this year. Just "amazing" to think that he was an actual contemporary of mine. He seemed much "younger" to me at the time, I guess because of the distance involved. -And I was even doing AIDS Buddy work at the time... In any case... A very nice story, and they had wonderful follow-up interviews with his mother and doctor.
-
DRJoSE aren't you supposed to be at the theatre by now?
I'm about to put my shoes on...
:)
Our "call" is downbeat, so... But we're usually there no later than 20 minutes before "Places".
Laters...
-
Wow - never heard of a "call" that late, but I am only an Equity candidate! LOL
-
Do my eyes deceive me - no posts in over an hour? Well, we know what the word of the day is, don't we?
LOLLYGAG!
Let's not just sit on our complacent butt cheeks all night.
-
I did errands and then enjoyed an invigorating hike on one of my favorite trails in town. On the way home I saw a perfect rainbow.
Sad news about Debralee, and scary that she was sent home without knowing the cause of the coma.
-
Thanks for the Debralee Scott link, JRand. Very sad. I always liked her and it seemed like she was on tv all the time when I was growing up!
-
Condolences to DR td. I hope fond memories and the support of caring friends, cyber and otherwise, will strengthen you at this time.

Do any Poirot fans like the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries? I've never seen any and am wondering if they're comparable to Poirot.
DR JMK - I am married to an avid fan of series mysteries and both Poirot and LPW are tops in his estimation. DH Richard is very fond of both the Wimsey books and the Ian Carmichael portrayal. In fact, he selected his wardrobe for our wedding based on the description of what Lord Peter wore when he married Harriet Vane in Busman's Honeymoon.

Good Evening!
Greetings from the Men's Ensemble Dressing Room at Clowes Hall! Mamma Mia! is wireless! -A bit slow, but wireless.

Laters...

CSI episode tonight (a rerun that I missed originally when I was doing NUNCRACKERS) was one of its most bizarre concerning murders among the transgender community.
-
Hi Jose, what a nice surprise. Sorry I have to leave now. Have a good show.
-
Hi, Jose - Is it intermission now? What's the approximate running time for the show?
-
Do any Poirot fans like the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries? I've never seen any and am wondering if they're comparable to Poirot.
I saw all of them when they were first broadcast on MASTERPIECE THEATER - CLOUDS OF WITNESS, THE NINE TAILORS, THE MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR AT THE BELONA CLUB, etc.
I alwways found Dorothy Sayers' mysteries a bit too dry for my taste, and the BBC versions are equally dry and slow moving. Ian Carmichael is perfection as Lord Peter Wimsey, but I just find the POIROTs much more fun.
-
The second series of Wimsey stories I'm not familiar with at all, so I won't comment.
-
10:42 there's no one in the place except me and..
oh, Michael Shayne left...
me and my shadow......
-
I also have my final commercial (the Energizer Bunny with Rip Torn) on tape somewhere.
Is this the one with the "Supervolt weasel"? If so, this is DH's favorite commercial!!! (can we geta copy?)
-

All the commercials on the top are for Lord Peter Wimsey dvds and videos!!!

Heading off to bed now. Will be back with the Friday Media Check tomorrow. What to pick, what to pick, . . . .
-
My darling kind sweet thoughtful DH just suprised me with a new Kodak easy share digital camera model 7340 4 .0 Mg and video with sound capture AND he also included a new case and a 1G memory card.
He said he felt bad about running over my last camera with his car (twice)
(I guess he's forgiven me for dropping it behind the rear tire of his car and leaving out in the rain all night!)
hmmm I'm beginning to get a great idea about how to get a new cell phone....
-
Now the ads are for photo sharing and photo albums....hello Big Brother!! Hello!!
-
well its 11:25 on the East coast and I guess all you west coasters are not coming out to play so I shall follow DR MattH's lead and off to bed go I
-
Hi DRvixmom. Did you get either of your cargo covers yet?
-
So sorry to hear of your loss, td. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
-
DR Jennifer: How did your roast beef turn out?
DR WFO: Any report on Angel Jim's hearing?
-
Five after nine and nobody here but us chickens.
Something's going on five doors north of me - ambulence and fire engine. I suspect someone has become ill.
-
I'm here. :)
Michael T. Weiss is pretending to be a prison guard. Just think of how much more of Mr. Weiss we would have seen had THE PRETENDER been a show on HBO. . .
(Yes, I still have a sense of humor).
Coping, but busy with all the little details which crop up AND I'm finally returning to work in the morning. The first flowers seen when entering the viewing area were a very large basket signed FROM YOUR FAMILY AT SAM MORGAN'S, so it will be nice be with THAT family again.
Back to Michael T. Weiss. . .or Jarod. Take your pick.
-
Debralee also had one of the immortal lines from AMERICAN GRAFFITI:
"Ain't he neat?"
-
I just finished reading yesterday's posts, so it looks like it will be tomorrow before I read all of today's. Accordingly I have missed the results of Rodzinski's interview. How did it go? How is Elmore? How is Jane's toe? How is td and his family?
-
Good Evening!
Back from the show... Another good show tonight - and I'm afraid I was feeling a little "too" comfortable in one place... ;)
DR Ginny - The show runs 2:35-ish. We're doing BC/EFA collections this week, so that adds another 5 minutes or so to the proceedings - but it's a worthwhile 5 minutes. *And as of the second to last day in Memphis, this company of Mamma Mia! passed the $1 Million mark in collections - in just about three years time! Every bit of pocket change helps.
-And we've noticed that the parking spaces close to the theatre "disappear" early, so plan your arrival time accordingly. *We've discovered that it's actually easier to park on the side streets in the neighborhood - makes it easier to get out. But they do have police directing traffic too.
-
Joke's on me department: Well I just got back from the opening night of the new session of my Tigard Pops Choir. Remember a few weeks ago when I posted about the daffy lady who sang "Granada" in a belly-dancing outfit with her accordion accompanist husband at the big regional cattle call auditions? And how she turned out to be a gymnastics coach for the Czech rhythmic gymnastic Olympic team. Well guess who showed up for Tigard Pops tonight? In her gymnastics coaching sweatsuit. (She actually has a great semi-legit soprano, so I'm not complaining).
I actually didn't put two and two together until she brought me her resume (this is a community choir, LOL) and a CD of her performances, all with accordion accompaniment.
I talked to her for quite a while tonight and it turns out she was an Olympics judge, too, for several Olympics, including LA in 1984 or whenever it was.
-
DR Jrand - AEA's usual call-time is 30 minutes before curtain - earlier if they have a wig, make-up and/or fight call. For musicians (AFM), it's "technically" by the downbeat - although most people get there earlier just so that other people don't start to worry - and to warm up too.
-
DR vixmom - Is that the Kodak Easyshare that looks like an XLR camera? In black?
-I guess I could just google the model number....
But, hey, it's a post! I shall not LOLLYGAG!
-
...And I think I'm gonna splurge on a massage tomorrow. My regular masseuse recommended one his former students to me who happens to live here in Indy. So... Hmmm... It would be nice to feel like a wet noodle for a few hours... Hmm...
-
I always arrive about 65 minutes before showtime and park in the lot next to the theatre. Usually no problem. And I love to people watch!
-
Is anyone else as bored with the new Republican Conservative talking-point phrase of the week "culture of life" and how they are trying to exploit the Pope's death for their political agenda? Jon Stewart skewered them on this point in fine style tonight.
-
What happens to people when they get to Washington D.C.....all those satires that I used to see on TV when I was growing up with those stereotypical politicians turned out to be not so far from true.
Jack S. Phogbound is alive and well on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Tonight on PROJECT GREENLIGHT - the producers & the director specifically told the casting director Michelle Morris Gertz that they were not interested in a particular actress for a specific role....someone named Navi something. Gertz brought her in for a second reading and didn't purge her name when they started seeing a second round of actresses. THEN Gertz called the New York office of the production company and without telling the producers OR director - Fed Exed the tape of this actress and the NY office okayed her and said cast her.
Is this an ethical thing for a casting director to do?
-
Time for to go to bed.

I shall hang out for the new Notes.. Then I shall surrender to the Siren Song of the Wussburger.
