Well, you've read the notes, the notes conjured up 1962, and now it is time for you to post until the 1962 cows come home.

I went to the local Dollar Tree and got some gold metalic wrapping paper and put that behind the picture instead of the plain white paper that was in the poster.  I was thinking that black would be best, but they didn't have any.  So, since a lot of the costumes have gold in them, I figured that gold surrounding the picture would look good.  I hope he likes it...and that the picture doesn't shift in the frame before I can give it to him!

Is anyone going to watch Live from Lincoln Center: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxRMlv-mwxM)?  It's streaming on YouTube, and according to the earliest comment, it'll be available until Tuesday, September 8 at 8:00 pm ET.

It's a Saturday. Let's be clear on that.

Because yesterday was yet another Friday that was a Saturday for me, simply due to circumstances around the house. So here I am, once again having my second of two Saturdays in one weekend. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

T.O.D.

Impossible question, but I'll pick 1961.

In no particular order:

THE GUNS OF NAVARONE
THE HUSTLER
JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG
WEST SIDE STORY
BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S
SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS
POCKETFUL OF MIRACLES
THE MISFITS
LOVER COME BACK
EL CID

For me it's the period of roughly 1959-1963 that was the apex of the century. And I'm not just talking movies, although you can demonstrate this with movies alone, which shows how remarkable they are as a benchmark. I go with the theory that every segment of the culture reflected this. (I saved an article somewhere that, while not all-encompassing, opened my eyes forever to this time period. I'll post it when I find it.)

Last night on the television I watched a version of this new musical.  you probably have never heard of it because no one has ever mentioned it anywhere....but it's called Hamilton.

I found it to be very entertaining and I think I will enjoy listening to the cast recording much more now that I have seen it....

My horror is its future productions by cut rate half pint over reaching idiot theatres who are convinced they have the talent to pull it off.....

I did have a curious dream last night.  DR Ginny and Richard were in Manhattan, and I met them on 56th Street to give DR Ginny aq ticket for a performance of Cole Porter's Jubilee.  I got to the performance at Carnegie Hall and sat in the audience wondering why she was late.  The performance began and, during the overture, I got into a fight with a young lady sitting on the aisle directly in front of me who kept talking loudly to a friend across the aisle.

The production was endless, no one could act, and I kept watching for DR Ginny, who never showed up!

This morning's epic is Hoop Dreams, which I haven't seen since it came out. Three hours of high school basketball through the eyes of two players and yet so much more. Not a topic I'm normally interested in, but the film is electric.

The Rescuers

The Duellists
Cross of Iron
3 Women
Annie Hall
The American Friend
New York, New York
A Little Night Music

and one I didn't really care for: Star Wars.

In spite of having "nearly" a decent night of sleep -- which I really needed, judging by my unplanned nap last night when I slept right through BK's test -- I still woke up this morning feeling in need of more sleep.

A couple of slices of toast, a cup of coffee, then three (3) egg/cheese/green chile burritos and another cup of coffee later, I was still groggy. So I laid my head down (just my head, the rest of me was off doing other things) to see if I could catch a quick nap. Just a very quick one. A wafer thin nap.

Suddenly it was two hours later and I was trying to shake off the grogginess and figure out what day it was. I guess I did need that.

Got news today that a long-time family friend died last night. I think he was 96, which is a fine, long run. I saw him at Dad's funeral at the end of the year, along with four or five of their six kids. He had looked good then, but seemed a little frail. His wife died a few months before Dad. They had been married for 70+ years.

We have 7 buildings in our condo complex. Someone a few buildings over is having a lawn party. We can see too many of our neighbors socializing near each other and only one woman is wearing a mask. >:(

Australia has set large fines for those who socialize irresponsibly.

Wow.  I think this is great, and that the restaurant cared enough to report them.

Here gatherings up to 50 people are permitted so there is nothing I can do about it but stay very far away from these people.

I don't think that is true. Even if gatherings of 50 people are allowed. I'm sure that they are not allowed to be right on top of each other.

I am looking at Washington States rules.  I didn't seen that it isn't permitted, just recommended.  Maybe George & TCB know something I don't know.

No, I don't. :-\

John, my condolences to you and to his family.  But your'e right...96 is a fine, long run.

While still sad, a marriage of 70+ years is wonderful.

Nice, George.

Thanks, John!  The picture was delivered this afternoon and my sister's boyfriend really liked it! :D

How rude! >:(

The party isn't rude, it is their carelessness that bothers me.  I know they think people around here are "careful" so it is safe for them to socialize  ::)

They were very close to each other and Keith noticed a bowl of chips sitting out along with other food  :o

A fun one from YouTube. An interview with Mel Brooks before Blazing Saddles, Robert Altman after MASH, Peter Bogdanovich shortly after "Last Picture Show" and the great Frank Capra, all on a Dick Cavett show about directors.

Listening to Toscanini do scads of Haydn.  Previously it was Mozart and while I can certainly appreciate Mr. Mozart I just don't respond to the music, mostly.  A failing on my part.  In fact, I prefer Haydn, who I don't love either.  After Haydn we're getting Schubert and then we finally get a bit more modern after that, like late 19th century wear 20th century.

And I've been listening to Pump Boys and Dinettes. Always enjoyed that show and I love several songs from the score.

I tried finding a Pump Boys TV special that was aired back in the early 80s when they tried to turn the show into a kind of variety show. It was only an hour long, featured about a half dozen songs. But it's one thing that YouTube doesn't have. Yet.

I'll tell you one thing about Mozart and Haydn - these boys wrote a LOT of symphonies, over one hundred of 'em.  Most composers were lucky to get to nine.

Schubert's ninth, the Great.  Did he call it the Great or did that come later?  There are two performances of this work, one CD apart and three years apart.

I just watched a movie I really liked, MY SPY. I hadn't heard of it prior to seeing the Amazon ad, but that's not surprising. It's about a little girl who susses out a CIA agent and wants him to teach her how to be a spy. Very cute and very clever. All actors are strong, but the two leads--the CIA agent and the girl--are wonderful. On Amazon Video.
