Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a thriller, and now it is time for you to post until the thrilled cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SINGULARITY!
-
Happy Birthday to (former) DR Miss Karen!
-
Well, I'm off to bed. It's back to work in the morning. ::)
Have a good day, all!
-
Bot before I go...this isn't too easy to read, but you'll get the idea. Here are all the current candidates for Washington state governor:
-
And NOW, I'm off. 8)
-
Good morning, all!
-
T.O.D.
It's been so long since there's been a TV anthology, it's hard to remember.
THRILLER was good, as was FOUR STAR PLAYHOUSE, which featured Dick Powell, Ida Lupino, Charles Boyer and David Niven.
-
All three cats were happy to be given breakfast. Annabelle went back for seconds before Thatch could eat her leftovers.
-
I won't see breakfast till I've finished kitty cleanup and that's an hour away.
-
I purchased the complete Thriller set when it was first released. I think the series was like the little girl with the curl: when it was good it was very very good, but when it was bad . . . "The Cheaters" is good and creepy, and "Pigeons from Hell" still remains something I'd rather not watch alone.
-
I don't remember seeing many anthology films: Dead of Night with Michael Redgrave, Stephen King's Creepshow and Cat's Eye, and Amicus Film's horror anthologies are all I remember. I have a vague memory of seeing O. Henry's Full House (?) on TV in the 1950s or 60s, but I have no memory of it now. I also liked the TV series Tales of the Crypt. Whoever thought the Cryptkeeper would leave Hollywood and change her name to Kellyanne Conway?
-
Sad news about the shooting of a New Jersey federal judge's son and husband. The TC news this morning said she'd been assigned to the Jeffrey Epstein case, and since I do not believe he was a suicide victim, I'm wondering if a political pedophile/pervert might be behind it. Prince Andrew? Donald Trump? Speculations are endless.
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I take SINGULARITY for my allergies.
-
When I was a kid, anthology shows had become mostly about horror in the wake of The Twilight Zone’s and Outer Limits’ success. So, there was Night Gallery, which was fun.
Perhaps my favorite TV show of all time is Wodehouse Playhouse, half-hour episodes based on different Wodehouse short stories enacted by a rep company let by Pauline Collins and John Alderton. It ran for three years.
-
I liked it when Tommy Steele sang SINGULARITY in The Happiest Millionaire.....
-
TOD:
Twilight Zone:;
Where Is Everybody?
Eye of the Beholder
It's a Good Life
I will have to search for the REAL titles of some of the others.
The Hitchhiker on HBO was fun.....
I also liked O'Henry's Full House.....
-
Frank Sinatra did indeed win his Oscar in the early 1950's DR TCB....but in the movie THE OSCAR he won another one instead of the main character also named FRANK.....the suspense was palpable.....not really.....
-
My chest of drawers was a cheap assemble-it-yourself Amazon purchase, and I clearly assembled it badly. The five drawers won't stay on their tracks so it's got to be replaced. Stella has started climbing the fallen drawers to reach the top one, where she lies among the unused silverware and pesters Thatch who likes to sleep on top of the chest. And now Thatch is curious about the drawer contents. My life is hell.
-
Good morning!
-
Watch the sidewalks on trash day DR ELMORE - sometimes a nice chest of drawers ends up there......and someone might help you bring it home.....
Move out day at DePauw University always yields lots of desks and chairs and chests, etc......not all of it worth taking....

New Moon in Cancer:
As we get further into the summer months, we experience a special caring, nurturing energy when the sun and moon are both in thoughtful Cancer. Today, the emotional moon is new, indicating it’s the perfect time to begin another cycle in our lives.
Symbolized by the hard-shelled Crab, Cancers often like to keep the tender insides of themselves hidden and protected, but this lunation’s energy asks you to open up and expose some of the emotions you’ve been keeping secret. You don’t have to announce your intentions to everyone, but you can use your advanced sense of intuition to figure out what seeds you can plant right now that will grow into something meaningful in the future.
-
I ordered a pizza today - first time in many months.....but there was a special....and I didn't want to use the oven.....so.....PIZZA....it is baking now at the shop and will soon be on its way to my house.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I had that THRILLER 6-episodes laserdisc, which I loved, and that was replaced by the complete DVD set. And I, too, have only watched several episodes.
When I got the set I sampled a couple of the early ones, and yes, they are disappointingly dull "mysteries". The great episodes, though, like "Pigeons From Hell", are wonderful, and I probably haven't even seen all of the good ones. I had a special fascination with the "Premature Burial" episode that follows the general story line of the Corman film but has its own eerie feel. I had never even known about that one until getting that laserdisc.
So I, too, will have to take myself on a li'l THRILLER journey ones of these days.

Well, it's been a terrible morning facing up to some stuff. The time has come to call it for our dear Poe, who will be the first of our babies to have at-home euthanasia, on the back deck following Covid-19 protocols, tomorrow afternoon. Thankfully, the mobile-vet doctor who'll be coming out sounds like a wonderful person. Poe will go to our li'l kitty graveyard in the trees behind the house.
This is a bad one for all of us, but it's particularly devastating for Kristi who adopted (actually, literally rescued) him at eight weeks of age from an obscenely cat-ridden house in a nearby town. Did I say devastating? Yesterday I privately looked through some of the pictures from 2002-2003, his first year here, and was utterly destroyed at seeing his youth and beauty then. Good God, how can eighteen years go by so fast?
So, that's where I am today and tomorrow.
-
I am very relieved, though, to have this done and ready.
And if you should by some chance be under the misguided impression that cocktail hour hasn't arrived here several hours early, you would be quite mistaken.

This is so heartbreaking! Poor Poe.

In other news, it looks like a good week at the Met.
I'll take a pass on The Barber of Seville and Tannhäuser, but Wednesday brings Verdi's Macbeth which I have never seen. That's a must, as will be Falstaff, maybe a little of Der Rosenkavalier on Saturday, and La fanciulla del West on Sunday because I've never seen that one either.
-

OF course, THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Falstaff is my favorite Verdi opera and a brilliant stage farewell for its 80+ year-old composer, who closes the piece with an enormous fugue as if to say to all, I still got it! I hope the Met is showing the gorgeous Zeffirelli production rather than their current Robert Carsen one, which is set in modern dress. Some divas look better in period clothes.
The Met DVD is now out of print and worth tracking down.
And by the way, that Tannhauser is also a wonderful production.
-
My sympathies, ChasSmith. It’s never easy.
-
Youtube has the excellent Gotz Friedrich film version with the great French baritone Gabriel Bacquier as Sir John Falstaff and a good 1970s cast of singers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We0heyFkqXU
-
I also enjoyed watching The Barbara Stanwyck Show for her. The quality varied from show to show, but was really good.
I also like what I’ve seen from Omnibus, such as the Orson Welles King Lear and the Bernstein programs.
-
I saw that Met Falstaff in 1986 and it was stunning. This one is from 1992, same production. I'll have to look for that DVD. I think I have it on laser, but every little bit of technology advance helps. Hmmm, same with that Tannhäuser, methinks.

I did standing room for the Met Tannhäuser in the 1990s, and it's a glorious production. Weikl and Troyanos who are on the video were in the performance I saw, maybe Cassilly as well.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost seven and a half hours of sleep.
-
I watched a lot of anthology shows as a kid - two short-lived shows I loved were Panic and Way Out (Roald Dahl hosted and it aired before The Twilight Zone). I also really liked One Step Beyond.

Topic of the Day: the only anthology shows that I thing I ever watched were Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. I enjoyed both.

Monday afternoon greetings...
First of all, let me send caring thoughts to DR ChasSmith's household...
-
This is the first Monday since April 27 that I have not had a FaceTime chat with my friend Rebecca. She's not feeling well today and had to cancel.
-
Happy Birthday to (former) DR Miss Karen!
I wonder how she and her son are doing.

Your decision is the right one, and Poe had a good long life with you. Of course, knowing this does not take away from the pain. I just hope it give you all some comfort. :( :'(
-
DR Chas please share some photos of Poe over the years.

And replace the Secretary of State. It is a position I never really thought of before, or understood how close this person is to becoming our governor. If something happens to the governor the Lieutenant Governor steps up. If something happens to the Lieutenant Governor than the Secretary of State becomes the new governor.
-
I'm so sorry about Poe, ChasSmith. I suggest cocktail day all day tomorrow.
-
DR Elmore, thank you for honoring Poe and me in your latest story.
(Why oh why did I have to be the source of such good material?) :)

We had a Secretary of State become governor many years ago. She was a breath of fresh air at the time. So much turmoil in those days.
-
It was Rose Moffard, who had the best beehive hairdo EVER.
-
Oddly, Rob Berman and DR Elmore's adopted son Joshie were in my dream last night. I can't bring back much of what was happening, but something about a rare piece of music that Rob was going to conduct, and with my completely accidental help, they were able to listen to a rare recording of it in a car with a special player in a parking lot somewhere in the city. Oy.
-
I didn't list my favorite anthologies, but I must thank BK for naming Way Out, a very important show for me in its one short season. Creepy to the nth degree.
Off the top of my head, though, I don't remember if I knew the show called Panic. I'll look it up.
-
Thank you all for the good wishes. I shall carry them with me through tomorrow.
-

You're welcome. I hope your day won't be too awful tomorrow. Follow DR Laura's advice.
-
Much love to ChasSmith and Poe on his journey.
-
Panic, when it was good, was REALLY good. I saw several episodes when it aired and since it wasn't a hit it was never available again and yet I could recall every detail of every episode I saw - years later, some 16mm prints showed up for sale and I grabbed two or three of the them and they were episodes I'd seen and every detail was exactly as I remembered. I think some of them are available on tape or DVD - not great copies but fun to watch.
-
My dream was quite strange last night. I was at Goodspeed working on a show and a good friend - it might have been Ben Davis, but I cannot remember now - in the cast was in a car accident driving into the nearest town to East Haddam to return a video.
Then I was sitting in an audience watching a play set on various levels and employing what looked like a freight elevator. It was like a cross between Rent and Company.

The NJ shooter of the federal judge's husband and son yesterday has been found dead. Nothing to do with Trump or Epstein at all.

Here's episode one of Panic, which I watched when it debuted. I always liked Eduardo Cianelli after this episode. I loved this episode and then continued to watch subsequent episodes. In three parts:

Gentlemen, this game is five-card stud poker. There's no limit. No string bets. You can check and raise. A dead man has one half-hour to raise his roll outside and get back in the game.

What an odd day. I realized at some point that this is the beginning of the fifth month that we've been working from home. The last day in the office was the day before Pi Day, and we celebrated with several pies.

Seems almost like a year ago.

At least you had fun on the last day.
-
I wish we had gone out to dinner that last Friday before quarantine began. Instead we decided to begin our own social distancing.
-
Seems almost like a year ago.
It was been a very long & discouraging "year".
-
This HAS been an odd day. Perhaps tomorrow will be an even day.
-
That would be nice though I expect mine to me an odd one.
-
Finished Jojo Rabbit. A near miss with me, though I really liked the ending.
-
I'm going to go finish The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, which I grew to enjoy very much.

A shame as I was hoping you would enjoy it as much as I did. I am glad you liked the ending.

So, my supervisor is on vacation down in Vegas (I think) and he posted a video on FB that I can't link to because it's on FB and it's private. The video is of his alter ego MizzHoneyBucket doing some cooking with a friend of his...hers?? ;) Anyway, he did send a picture to us at work that I am able to post:
-
Talk about fabulous!! :D
-
I haven't watched the video yet (I'll watch it when I get home), so I don't know what they were cooking, but I'm sure that it'll be fun just watching!
-
And now, I need to leave, so I'm outta here!
Be back later.
-
How on earth could I not have mentioned both Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. And Suspense. And the Alcoa Hour?
-
One positive aspect about the Covid -19 Pandemic:
My auto insurance company is refunding a month's premium, since they figure people like me won't be driving much. They may even do it again, depending on how things pan out.
Not bad

Indeed.

Or Playhouse 90?
-
Four!

Book is finished. Time for bed.
-
Hello, 2 guests!
-
I don't think I ever watched Playhouse 90 - don't know why.
-
Do you know who you are?
-
I don't think I ever watched Playhouse 90 - don't know why.
Saw some individual pieces. They were quite good.
-
I saw Requiem for a Heavyweight and Invitation to a Gunfight. Never saw Days of Wine snd Roses, The Miracle Worker or any of the others that had a life elsewhere.
-
Good night, all.
-
I'm home. :)
-
Just had to share. ;)
-
Gratuitous Post #100!

Well, look what I now have!

We keep forgetting to check if we can get a reduction. We did it for my car when we lived in Ashland based on my low mileage.
-
I mean I never watched Playhouse 90 back in the day- I have, of course, seen some kinescopes.
-
Good evening.
-
To ChasSmith, my deepest condolences to you and the household. God bless you all, and special prayers to Poe. I can’t believe it was three months ago that Nicky passed.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
On Jimmy Kimmel show this evening, his guest host is the Northwest’s own Joel McHale. One of his guests is Seattle Seahawks cutie pie quarterback, Russell Wilson. He is interviewing Russell in his swimming pool.
-
Lucky we had nice weather today.
-
A high of 87 in Seattle and possibly 90 in Olympia.
-
Page 4? Still?
-
We must get off this page.
-
Hello, George.
-
UNDERPANTS!
-
Nearly over.
-
But not quite.
-
One more post.
-
FIVE
-
A high of 87 in Seattle and possibly 90 in Olympia.
The weather app on my phone says that it WAS 90° in Olympia today!
-
And it CERTAINLY felt like it!! :P
-
It also says that the high tomorrow will be 80° and Wednesday will be down to 73°.
-
It was pretty warm here, but not hot.

I don't have AC at home.

Yes, but no rain!

I haven’t used my A/C since I moved here.

At least you have the option. I have three floors and I don't think that even if I did have it, it would be able to cool down any room because of the way my house is set up.
-
He is soooooo cute.
-
He is soooooo cute.
Joel McHale or Russell Wilson...or both??
-
I have a preference for Joel McHale, mainly because I've known who he is for so much longer.
-
I remember seeing him on Seattle's SNL equivalent, Almost Live back in the 1990s!
-
Joel AND Bill Nye! :D
-
It was pretty warm here, but not hot.

We mostly walked in the shade today and stayed comfortable.

Hello???

Where in tarnation IS everyone?
