Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little nachtmusik, and now it is time for you to post until the little night cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ECLECTIC!
-
And the word of the day is: ECLECTIC!
Just about all the furniture in my house came from different sources and at different times. My preferred decorating style is ECLECTIC! ;D
-
And now, I'm off to bed. I want to get to work a little early so that I can leave a little early and go to my parents' for our weekly Phase 10 playing.
Good night, BK, and have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Last night was a god-awful night of sleep. I will most likely spend a good part of the day napping with the cats.
-
DR TCB, perhaps Nicky just wanted you to know he was okay, and maybe he just wanted to see you again?
-
Last night, the Miami University theatre students had another zoom reunion, which was most fun.
-
Another 90+ degrees F day! I'm happy to be inside.
-
Hello
-
I am sorry I have nothing to say
-
But I miss you guys and hope you’re all well
-
Good morning, all.
-
We miss you, too, Vixmom!

We miss you, too, DR vixmom!

I have tooth ache, and this means in the very near future a trip to the NYU Dental Clinic. I am not amused.
-
Good morning, all.

Toothache Be Gone vibes for DR Elmore!

Toothache Be Gone vibes for DR Elmore!
Thank you! Thanks to the DramaBook Shop's continual games to find cheaper health insurance for its employees, I lost my dental insurance thirty years ago and became reliant on the whims of whatever dental student I was assigned at the NYU Dental Clinic. If I found one with whom I had a good rapport, they soon graduated and I was back to square one.

BK tells of something that is, for me, one of the worst things that can happen in a video transfer. And that would be any kind of geometric distortion. That happened with Criterion's first batch of Dressed to Kill or whichever De Palma film it was. It was scrunched or stretched, I forget. Doesn't matter because they fixed it.
Many people are blind to these things, something I cannot understand for one minute. Have we not noticed over the years what the world around us looks like? You don't have to know a damned thing about film or video. You don't have to know what an "aspect ratio" is. Just look at the damned picture. Are those circular objects really supposed to be oval? Is the beanpole look of that actor's face and body that you've seen all your life really correct?
Hell, I still can't believe that millions of people happily watch their TV with the picture stretched to fill the screen, giving every person and object the funhouse mirror look. Many do it deliberately because "the picture MUST fill the screen!" on their expensive "widescreen" TV. But at least that's a decision, however ill-formed, that they're making for themselves. It's the people who don't notice, who can't see the problem -- even when it's pointed out to them -- that make me think I've walked into an alternate universe.
So, getting back to BK's observation about this Pink Panther transfer. Who released that? In my book, that's recall material.
-
Whew! Got that out of my system.
BK TRIGGERED ME!!!!!
-
Huge vibes for vixmom.

I was going to take a li'l trip to another Barnes & Noble today to hand-pick a few more Criterions. But I'd be getting a later start than I want, and there's another week left on the sale. So I'm going to sit here on my bloomin' ARSE and catch up online with a few Kino titles I've wanted for a while, because they, too, have a halfway decent sale going on.
-
Last night, we watched PERFECT STRANGERS (1950) with Ginger Rogers and Dennis Morgan.
It was like an early (romantic) version of TWELVE ANGRY MEN (1957).
Not very good.

I will be spending much of this weekend proofing my biography of Merv Griffin (MERV: The Final Chapter).
This will be the third edition of this book.
It was previously published in 1976 and 1980 by two different publisher, both of whom went bankrupt. I got sizable advances from each publisher, but no royalties.
Now, my longtime publisher, BearManor Media will be coming out with this updated edition later this year.
Actually, this book did quite well for me. Merv certainly liked it. He even had me as a guest on his show.
-
Tomorrow brings a new zoom first: a zoom funeral. I hope it won’t have any technical glitches. People have taken my coworker Rosenda’s death very hard. She was well-loved in the community. So, zoom is a good vehicle for getting people together.

I bought a jar of habanero salsa because I wanted some kick-butt kick. Sadly, the heat is muted. The rest of the habanero is there, the fruit, the richness. But without tge heat, what’s the point?
-
Washing machine repair man is here.
-
My ECLECTIC bill is usually my most expensive bill each month - next to the cable bill.
-
Great doggie news DR JANE.
-
Tooth vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Greetings and vibes for DR VIXMOM.

My sister and b-i-l are indeed mowing today.....
-
BIG ANNIVERSARY SHOW!!!!
-
DR DRUXY I think I read your Merv Griffin book back in the day.
-
I loved The Pink Panther - which we saw at the drive-in theater.....
In addition the Mr Sellers antics....I also thought Capucine was hilarious.....
I THINK this bit is in this movie......Clouseau is questioning suspects and walking around the room.....he says something and a woman screams and stands up.....because he stepped on her toe....LOL.....
I used that bit myself when I directed a show titled "Death By Chocolate" and the audience was beside itself.....which is some trick.
-
It helped that the man who played the detective was.....uh.....portly.....and the woman was a tall bean pole.....
-
I'm not finding it easily in a quick search, but there was an advertising slogan back in the 50s or 60s that went something like "There's no match for flameless ECLECTIC living!"

The audio edition of ROY SCHEIDER & THE BIGGER BOAT, featuring Gene Vetere as Roy Scheider, is now available for download on Amazon.
If you are a fan of JAWS, THE FRENCH CONNECTION, ALL THAT JAZZ or the many other films that Roy Scheider made, you will enjoy this audio production, which is enhanced with music and sound effects.
Back at the end of 1999, I had the pleasure of directing Roy in THE DOORWAY, which we shot in Ireland.

Well, the first of the Federal Officers have arrived in Seattle!
:'(
-
From DR TCB:
Oh wow, what wonderful news!
Thank you :)
-
DR TCB how can the staff at Rite Aid not all be masked. It is a state requirement. Can you report them to someone, beginning with Rite Aid?
-
I'm screwed. The NYU Dental Clinic is closed for Covid-19, and I'm advised to check their site regularly for opening alerts. Oy!
-
We miss you, too, Vixmom!
We miss you, too, DR vixmom!

~~~Dental Appointment Vibes for Larry!!~~~
-
Well, the first of the Federal Officers have arrived in Seattle!
:'(
Good.
-
That made me check the website of my own dentist. I had been under the impression that she's been open more or less following the first few weeks of quarantine. Well, it's a good thing I didn't have any dire need in the interim, because...not so. They're just now reopening and will have a full protocol to follow.
-
Well, the first of the Federal Officers have arrived in Seattle!
:'(
Good.
Trump's Gestapo?
-
I'm up, I'm up - I was up at six after two and a half hours of sleep, and back in bed at eight-thirty, fell asleep around nine-thirty so six hours of sleep, I guess.
-
Behind now - so catching up as quickly as I can so I can go to the mail place, get back, shave, and do our Zoom rehearsals.
-
I don't know if I even scheduled them.
-
Friday afternoon greetings! I just finished a Zoom session in which my retired librarian friends shared what we've been reading recently.
-
But I miss you guys and hope you’re all well
We miss you, too, DR Vixmom, and hope the same thing!
-
Another 90+ degrees F day! I'm happy to be inside.
It's only in the 90s here. And I am thrilled. This morning's walk was wonderful.
-
I just got an email stating that both Hamilton and Oklahoma! have been postponed. I'm glad.
-
Thank you all for the kind thoughts
-
Back from mail place, have shaved, and we Zoom in fifteen minutes.
-
It may be some time before life goes back to any semblance of “normal”
-
Even pandemic normal would be ok
-
I can’t get this woman to understand that we are no longer able to work on”just in time” ( as we used to say when I worked in aerospace) shopping schedule
-
Just need “x”, don't buy anything else!
-
The next day... need bread..
-
Why didn’t you tell me that yesterday?
-
I still had 2 slices left
-
Auuuuuugh
-
I don’t know if I mentioned vixdad and I went to be tested both for live virus and antibodies
-
I was negative for both
-
He was negative for current virus but positive for antibodies
-
That confirms our suspicions that when he was so sick from just after Thanksgiving until mid January it was this thing
-
Of course nobody had heard of it then
-
I can’t get this woman to understand that we are no longer able to work on”just in time” ( as we used to say when I worked in aerospace) shopping schedule
Oy! I'm sorry, DR vixmom. You are a saint.
-
Our usual safety protocols to prevent passing illness back and forth seems to have worked
-
Or maybe I am just naturally immune
-
Doubtful
-
Chances of being that lucky are slight
-
Well I should go cook some dinner
-
Mom doesn’t want me tonight so maybe I can get some laundry in as well
-
Maybe even clean something
-
If I can work up the energy
-
Bob the Street Cat was killed by a car several weeks ago, and his murder still hurts. I just founmd this youtube tribute to him.
Super vibes for DR VIXMOM.
I have solved the mystery of the voice mails from my dad. I finally got my brother down to my house with his phone.
All he had was the beta texts......I sent them to MY phone number....and VOILA! there was the voice.
It was from his drunk friend ED - the voice recognition program translated ED as DAD.
Ed doesn't have his own phone - so he just borrows phones when he wants to make a call.
So....there you are - not as dramatic as a call from beyond....but perhaps a jumping off point for a play or sketch....
WHAT IF ... Alexander Graham Bell had invented VOICE MAIL first?
-
WHAT IF ... Alexander Graham Bell drank and dialed?
-
Super vibes for DR VIXMOM.
~~~SUPER DITTO!!~~~
-
Well, the first of the Federal Officers have arrived in Seattle!
:'(
Good.
DR Druxy I actually understand why you might think this is a good thing as not much has been done about the rioters. Thing is, here in Portland they have gone after the peaceful demonstrators who were beginning to peter out and are now back in full force.
-
Tomorrow brings a new zoom first: a zoom funeral. I hope it won’t have any technical glitches. People have taken my coworker Rosenda’s death very hard. She was well-loved in the community. So, zoom is a good vehicle for getting people together.
:(
When we went to the zoom service for our friend we could only see the family and the service. There was a page for us to share personal memories and photos.
-
I bought a jar of habanero salsa because I wanted some kick-butt kick. Sadly, the heat is muted. The rest of the habanero is there, the fruit, the richness. But without tge heat, what’s the point?
LOL, you are asking the wrong person. I bet it would still be too hot for me.
-
Great doggie news DR JANE.
Thank you.
-
My sister and b-i-l are indeed mowing today.....
They are good to you because you are also a wonderful brother.
-
Friday afternoon greetings! I just finished a Zoom session in which my retired librarian friends shared what we've been reading recently.
Any good suggestions. I need some for my book group, just please not a memoir. We read too many of those for my person taste.
-
I just got an email stating that both Hamilton and Oklahoma! have been postponed. I'm glad.
Good.
-
Auuuuuugh
Sorry. Are you accommodating her anyway?
-
I was negative for both
Good.
-
He was negative for current virus but positive for antibodies
He is the first person I have known of that suspected they had the virus and did.
-
That confirms our suspicions that when he was so sick from just after Thanksgiving until mid January it was this thing
That was about the same time I was sick. I still have a few mild issues with coughing and deep breaths.
-
Our usual safety protocols to prevent passing illness back and forth seems to have worked
Were you taking precautions back then? When one of us is sick we make sure to disinfect and not share our germs. We have never worn a mask inside.
-
Or maybe I am just naturally immune
That was my original thought.
-
Jane, are you still reading Arthur Pepper?
-

My current pandemic read is Robin Cook's Pandemic. He was always good with those titles.
-
I am not sure I want to read anymore pandemic books.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Vibes to all who need them.
-
I saw my osteopath this week for the first time in eight months. His recommendation is for me to see him monthly. Difficult to do when they keep canceling my appointments and CLOSED all their offices for FOUR months! I really don't understand what they were thinking. Do they think they're keeping us safe by abandoning us?
I've had a lot of anger and disgust over this. I'm still disgusted, but was able to talk to my doctor without the negative feelings. He told me that he and a number of other doctors disagreed with the decision, but there was nothing they could do. I'd like to see a class action suit against the medical group. I have great insurance, but the insurance is only good at a medical institution that refused to see patients.
-
I think a LOT of people drank the kool-aid.
-
The weather here has been really lovely--70s during the day and cool at night. July is usually HOT. I really hope this continues.
-
I watched ROCKETMAN recently and Elton John songs have been going through my mind ever since. Could be a lot worse.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

Our usual safety protocols to prevent passing illness back and forth seems to have worked
Were you taking precautions back then? When one of us is sick we make sure to disinfect and not share our germs. We have ever worn a mask inside.
He tends to get sick every winter from the commute, close quarters with sick people on the trains and subways... so when he starts to feel bad I dose with sambucol and zicam right away as a preventative double up on vitamin C and keep my distance along with disinfecting
We thought at the time it was a particularly virulent form if the flu, the doctor was baffled as he couldn’t come up with a firm diagnosis...he said it seemed like it was trying to develop into bronchitis or pneumonia but mutated...vixdad took some heavy duty antibiotics and used a nebulizer, but he was terribly ill.
Once we heard about the plague and its various symptoms we started wondering if he could have had....it seems now that he did, 3 months before it was supposedly o;our shores....

DR Vixmom, does Vixdad get the high dose flu shot or the quad?
-
I hope this test will be available prior to the flu season.
"CDC’s newest laboratory test, currently in production, will detect two types of influenza viruses (A and B) and SARS-CoV-2 at the same time. This test is called the CDC Influenza SARS-CoV-2 (Flu SC2) Multiplex Assay."

Five!

Zoom was fine, we made some adjustments, Richard has already fixed those few tracks and they've been resent to the singers. I was starving, so I tried to Postmates but their site was completely stupid, screwing up, wouldn't let me log in even though I'm automatically logged in, couldn't order, couldn't e-mail - so annoying. I went to the bank quickly and used the ATM, came home, and finally an hour later Postmates was working. By that time, Casa Vega had closed so I couldn't get what I actually wanted and I was so disgusted by then I just re-ordered from that great chicken sandwich place, and hopefully the delivery will be shorter than the other night because I'm about to faint.
-
Food should be here in mere moments.
-
I'm tired and I feel I'm getting burned out.
-
I don't know if I'll be ready to leave by Wednesday for Louisville.
-
But I almost had a good night's sleep last night.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
And somehow we go two HOURS without a post?
-
Now playing: Bruno with a B does Schubert with an S - Rosamunde - quite enjoyable, and the second to last of the mono recordings.
-
Oh, and the chicken sandwich was every bit as great as it was a few days ago. And that's all I've eaten, save for a little side of mac-and-cheese (not great) and the little bit of fries (great).
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
I don't know if I'll be ready to leave by Wednesday for Louisville.
Vibes you are ready to leave, and rested before the long drive. If really needed you can leave a day late, right?
-
Okay, you 'splain this to me: A one-star "review" just showed up on The Creature Wasn't Nice DVD page on Amazon. The interesting thing is, this showing up out of the blue, is that it is clearly not a review for the director's cut DVD, which is what's pictured on this page. And it's from 2008. How exactly did a review from 2008 show up in 2020 on a completely different page? I know what I think. Anyway, go leave some nice comments.
-
Furthermore, if you click on his name and go to his profile, guess what? The review doesn't even show up in his review list. Curiouser and curiouser.

On Tuesday, the board of directors accepted his resignation.

That was it. No two week notice, no farewell to the troops. Gone.

Who knows.

One more post.
