Well, you've read the notes, the notes were loving, and now it is time for you to post until the loving cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: WILLOWY!
-
~~~Vibes for No More Guck for BK!!~~~
-
And congrats on being included in the David Cassidy book!
-
Well, I hate to do it (no, I REALLY do), but I need to get to sleep now so that I can get to work early. I have a meeting that I can't miss, so I'm off.
Have a good day, all!
-
What the Hell am I doing awake at 3:30 A.M.?
-
That is a great question, for which I have no answer.
-
I was completely wore out at midnight, but the moment I turned off the bedroom light, that other light went on over my head.
-
You know the one that flashes “Lost in thought. Do not disturb!”
-
And boy is that lamp bright.
-
For the last three and one half hours the wheels in my head have been going round and round.
-
I don’t really have anything that I need to think about, which would be obvious to you if you could read the transcript rolling out of my ear.
-
Most of the time has been spent thinking about my days managing shoe storeS in California,
Oregon, and Washington. Not exactly exciting memories, but that was what was on the bill for this morning.
-
I am not tired in the least.
-
Maybe I should getup and work on my book — that would put me to sleep!
-
Not true. Not true.
-
I guess I will try, once more, to see if the sleep fairy will come by and shake his wand at me.
-
Later!
T..O.D.
THE MOON'S A BALLOON by David Niven
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT by Michael Caine
Two of the best.
-
Speaking of autobiographies, my first memoir, MY FORTY-FIVE YEARS IN HOLLYWOOD...AND HOW I ESCAPED ALIVE, has now been recorded on audio by Hopper Stone.
It's currently going through the ACX quality check and should be on sale soon.
-
I also got an announcement this morning from BearManor Media.
They inform me that my 1975 biography/filmography of Basil Rathbone (BASIL RATHBONE: His Life and His Films) is now (finally) available in a Kindle edition, and should be available on Amazon within a few days.
However, you can also purchase it directly from the publisher now.
Good morning, all!
-
I must make that bank trek this morning.
-
I slept well last night. Thatch kept me company. Annabelle has retuirned to her bookcase aerie.
-
Well, isn't that special - rather sharp earth quake - a pretty nice shake and bake and then a really sharp and disturbing jolt. Nothing fell or anything. But, what does everyone here do? Within two seconds of it happening? Direct to Facebook. This is a sickness.
-
And a nice aftershock. I AM DONE. Enough is enough.
-
Last night we watched A Study in Terror, which I hadn't seen since 1965 or 66. I saw it twice back then, and my memory is that I saw it in a theater and later during the summer at a drive-in. I was happily surprised at how well it holds up and the cast is really good: John Neville and Donald Houston as Holmes and Watson, a very young Judi Dench, Adrienne Corri, John Fraser, Anthony Quayle. Barbara Windsor, Georgia Brown, and a most amusing turn from Robert Morley as Mycroft Holmes. The costumes were designed by Motley, who designed costumes around the same time for the musical Baker Street. The film reminded me of a Hammer film, and I thought the screenplay was literate and intelligent.
The victims were all shapely and attractive, with lots of cleavage. I have yet to see a Ripper movie in which the victims resembled the actual older, unattractive, and aging women he actually murdered.
Herman Cohen was one of the producers, so I spent some time trying to figure out if there were a nicely proportioned actor he was promoting, but speculation is endless. Thatch was uninterested in the film until the big fire near the ending that caught his eye and took him right to the front of the screen.
-
I think it's my fault.
Last night, I said to wife Sandy: "California hasn't had an earthquake for quite awhile."
My apologies.
-
I must get ready to step out. I want to get back before the rain. I'd like to do the laundry today as well. I want to wash that new quilt.
-
Kitty cleanup is over, the bed is made, and I'm taking a breather before I put on my shoes and head out.
-
I just looked up Murder By Decree, tonight's movie, on IMDB. Frank Finlay and Anthony Quayle, who were in A Study In Terror, are in the cast!
-
Page 2 Dance!
-
I think WILLOWY was one of my favorite characters in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
-
Vibes for MR BK.
Congrats on being in the book.
-
Continued vibes for DR GEORGE & Neve.
-
The bank trip took around 45 minutes. I was very lucky to get cabs so quickly. Now that I'm inside and my legs are killing me, I think I may hold off the laundry to tomorrow.
-
Good morning, all.
-
If I ever saw A Study in Terror, it would have to have been years ago and I'm just not remembering it. It sounds good.
-
I thought I might go out to a Barnes & Noble today because the Criterion sale ends this weekend and there are three or four things I'd still like to get. But I've decided that it depends on whether this one store has any copies of The War of the Worlds which has been mostly sold out since its release just before the sale. They think they have a couple and will call me back to confirm. Otherwise, I can wait.
-
(I don't order from B&N, following a couple of poor experiences with shipments from them several years ago.)
I have reached Louisville. I was in the car for about 18 hours. J.B. is still alive. Though that was a close call. He really doesn't like the dark and squawked loudly for about 3 hours.
Ditto.
I was completely wore out at midnight, but the moment I turned off the bedroom light, that other light went on over my head.
I just hate that.
-
And boy is that lamp bright.
Reading is the only thing that dims the light. Of course then I can get engrossed in the book & still not sleep.
-
Most of the time has been spent thinking about my days managing shoe storeS in California,
Oregon, and Washington. Not exactly exciting memories, but that was what was on the bill for this morning.
Did you begin doing that in California and work your way back home?
-
I have reached Louisville. I was in the car for about 18 hours. J.B. is still alive. Though that was a close call. He really doesn't like the dark and squawked loudly for about 3 hours.
Welcome to the Ohio Valley, DR John G!
-
I've got the 1977 Rigoletto playing, and I'm shamelessly skipping through it. It's wonderful to see and hear these people (Domingo et al.) in their prime and fun to see the old telecasts, but there's no danger of my being sucked in like I was for Falstaff the other day.
-
Good news from DR JOHN G.
-
Well, isn't that special - rather sharp earth quake - a pretty nice shake and bake and then a really sharp and disturbing jolt. Nothing fell or anything. But, what does everyone here do? Within two seconds of it happening? Direct to Facebook. This is a sickness.
Yikes! :o Glad nothing fell!
-
DR ELMORE my guess for Herman's squeeze in A STUDY IN TERROR is the muscleman Chunky who moves the cow carcasses around - Terry Downes.... He was a former professional boxer.
Continued vibes for DR GEORGE & Neve.
Thanks, Jrand!
Thursday morning greetings! Richard has a Zoom clergy meeting this afternoon and I have a library-sponsored author event on Facebook Live this evening. Our new normal...
Today, I have a library-wide Zoom meeting at 11:00, and at 10:30, an actual, in-person meeting! Socially distanced, of course.
I still have some of the veggie stew experiment thingy I made the other day so I ended doing the same lunch as yesterday
-
This mornings smoothie was almond milk, a banana, a golden kiwi and a dozen strawberries
-
That was my suspicion. Either he or the actor playing Michael Osborn.
I've been watching John Lewis' funeral. Jennifer Holiday's
screams vocal utterances sent me hurrying from the room till they were over. I will never be a fan of that vocal style. I don't find it musical, involved, or sincere.
God, I love Barrack Obama! He was really impressive today. Then, again, maybe it's just that he has class and can speak in sentences, which are two things the Fat Orange Slug will never achieve, not for all the gold-plated toilets in Trump Tower.
-
I have to take the recyclables to the basement but I need to get a sleeping Annabelle out of the trash bag and I hate to disturb her.
-
So you know:
You’ve got a lot on your mind, but you’re not quite sure if you’re ready to share it with the world. When Mercury is opposite expansive Jupiter, you tend to overthink and overcommit, and when the end result is less than you hoped for, you question your own plans, ideas, and even beliefs.
At the same time, the Mercury-Neptune trine stimulates your creativity and imagination, but the details tend to get eclipsed by the big picture. Your dreams and fantasies take center stage, further clouding your vision about what’s real and what’s only in your head.
Agree. I guess it’s an extreme form of gospel? It’s something I don’t get at all.
Mom left the room for the same reason. I, on the other hand, found her exceptionally moving. May have to google videos to watch her again.
I wasn't a fan of the continually tinkling piano arpeggios and organ continuo, either. Sometimes simpler is more.
This is true DR ELMORE - there is only one John Hamill.
-
DR JANE you may be right.....he is settling in the for the night right now - we shall see what tomorrow brings.
-
Hi, Jrand.
-
glad to know John arrived safely
Thank you, all, for the messages. It’s been rainy and wet all day. I’ve been napping.
I had it in my head that you were leaving today. How long will you be in Kentucky?
Two months.
-
So this morning, I got a phone call from my niece saying that my mom was being taken to the doctor's.
-
Evidently, she was feeling VERY dizzy, so her friend her to the doctor's. They did a CT scan and either later tonight or tomorrow, they'll do an MRI.
-
I left work after a couple of hours and have been at my parents' house so that my dad isn't alone. He can be alone for a short while, but not all day.
-
My sister and her boyfriend Larry will come over shortly and then we'll get dinner from somewhere. Larry will stay the night with my dad, then I'll come back tomorrow afternoon, probably before my mom gets home.
-
I didn't know, but my mom has been having mini-strokes. :o Nothing major, yet.
-
MEGA VIBES FOR YOU MOTHER!
-
And that was my afternoon.
-
MEGA VIBES FOR YOU MOTHER!
Thanks, Jane!
-
I didn't know, but my mom has been having mini-strokes. :o Nothing major, yet.
Did your mother know?
-
And that was my afternoon.
Not a good one. That is nice Larry will spend the night there.
-
I didn't know, but my mom has been having mini-strokes. :o Nothing major, yet.
Did your mother know?
Yes, I only found out a few months ago, but she's been dealing with this for a while.
-
Is your mother's friend still with her?
-
And that was my afternoon.
Not a good one. That is nice Larry will spend the night there.
Yup! Well, my sister is here now and Larry is on his way, so we'll decide on what to get for dinner now and I'll head for home after that. Or, we might play Phase 10. We'll see. :)
Be back later.
-
I didn't know, but my mom has been having mini-strokes. :o Nothing major, yet.
Did your mother know?
Yes, I only found out a few months ago, but she's been dealing with this for a while.
:(
Thank goodness, and thanks for letting me know.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
On the Bruckner 9th now, then moving on to some violin concertos played by Zino Fracescatti, who I'm now a big fan of.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Why I oughta...
-
Had to finally turn on the air - it was eighty.
-
What do you set it to? I would prefer higher.
-
Vibes of all kinds for George's mother.
Thanks, John.
-
Hi, Jane.
-
Oh, and I'm home.
-
My mom called while I was at my parents' house, and my sister and her boyfriend were there, too.
-
We got to chat with her a bit, but they haven't gotten the results from the CT scan and the MRI yet, so they don't know what's going on.
-
She otherwise seemed in good spirits.
-
A couple of weeks ago, my sister and I sent care packages to our aunts (my dad's two sisters) in California.
-
Coincidentally while everyone was at my parents' house tonight, my aunt Sister Cecelia (the nun) called there to find out my sister's phone number to thank us for the care package.
-
But since we were all there already, so all got to talk with her without having to wait! :D
-
Topic of the Day (in alphabetical order):
Album Produced by... by BK
Beverly: An Autobiography by Beverly Sills and Lawrence Linderman
Shortest Way Home by Pete Buttigieg (running for president is pretty much show biz ;) )
Sondheim & Company by Craig Zadan (1st ed)
"There's Mel, There's Woody, and...You," by BK
Wish You Were Here: The Official Biography of Douglas Adams by Nick Webb
-
And honorary mentions go to the fictionalized early years of BK:
Benjamin Kritzer
Kritzerland
Kritzer Time
;D
-
She otherwise seemed in good spirits.
That's good.
-
But since we were all there already, so all got to talk with her without having to wait! :D
Convenient. :)
-
Always appreciate mentions of the books and am always glad that someone got some enjoyment out of them.
-
Listening to the superb Zino Francescatti do various violin concertos - we've already had the Mendelssohn (now my favorite version of it), Tchaikovsky, Bruch, and finishing up Lalo, then the last is Sibelius. Doesn't hurt to have conductors like Szell, Schippers, Mitropoulos, and Bernstein.
-
Had a couple of tortillas for my snack and a tiny bit of ice cream for my sweet.
Most of the time has been spent thinking about my days managing shoe storeS in California,
Oregon, and Washington. Not exactly exciting memories, but that was what was on the bill for this morning.
Did you begin doing that in California and work your way back home?
No, I started in Tacoma. Then I transferred to Portland as the Asst. Manager. I took a few months off, so my friend Tim and I could move to Laguna Beach. When that didn’t work, I came back to Tacoma, then transferred to downtown Seattle, and finally to our southcenter store, which was one of the nicest stores.
Hardy Shoes! A lot of memories.
The unofficial company slogan (known only to employees and friends) was:
Every woman loves a man with a Hardy on!
-
I personally changed it to:
Everybody loves a man with a Hardy on!
Wait a minute! That was wrong. When I came back from Laguna Beach, I went back to Tacoma as a salesman. Right away, I was promoted to manager of our store in Santa Rosa. After that, I moved back to Tacoma, then downtown Seattle and finally Southcenter.
