Well, I hate to do it (no, I REALLY do), but I need to get to sleep now so that I can get to work early.  I have a meeting that I can't miss, so I'm off.

Have a good day, all!

Most of the time has been spent thinking about my days managing shoe storeS in California,
Oregon, and Washington.  Not exactly exciting memories, but that was what was on the bill for this morning.

Speaking of autobiographies, my first memoir, MY FORTY-FIVE YEARS IN HOLLYWOOD...AND HOW I ESCAPED ALIVE, has now been recorded on audio by Hopper Stone.

It's currently going through the ACX quality check and should be on sale soon.

I also got an announcement this morning from BearManor Media.

They inform me that my 1975 biography/filmography of Basil Rathbone (BASIL RATHBONE: His Life and His Films) is now (finally) available in a Kindle edition, and should be available on Amazon within a few days.

However, you can also purchase it directly from the publisher now.

Well, isn't that special - rather sharp earth quake - a pretty nice shake and bake and then a really sharp and disturbing jolt.  Nothing fell or anything.  But, what does everyone here do?  Within two seconds of it happening?  Direct to Facebook.  This is a sickness.

Last night we watched A Study in Terror, which I hadn't seen since 1965 or 66.  I saw it twice back then, and my memory is that I saw it in a theater and later during the summer at a drive-in. I was happily surprised at how well it holds up and the cast is really good: John Neville and Donald Houston as Holmes and Watson, a very young Judi Dench, Adrienne Corri, John Fraser, Anthony Quayle. Barbara Windsor, Georgia Brown, and a most amusing turn from Robert Morley as Mycroft Holmes.  The costumes were designed by Motley, who designed costumes around the same time for the musical Baker Street. The film reminded me of a Hammer film, and I thought the screenplay was literate and intelligent.

The victims were all shapely and attractive, with lots of cleavage.  I have yet to see a Ripper movie in which the victims resembled the actual older, unattractive, and aging women he actually murdered.

Herman Cohen was one of the producers, so I spent some time trying to figure out if there were a nicely proportioned actor he was promoting, but speculation is endless.  Thatch was uninterested in the film until the big fire near the ending that caught his eye and took him right to the front of the screen.

I thought I might go out to a Barnes & Noble today because the Criterion sale ends this weekend and there are three or four things I'd still like to get. But I've decided that it depends on whether this one store has any copies of The War of the Worlds which has been mostly sold out since its release just before the sale. They think they have a couple and will call me back to confirm. Otherwise, I can wait.

I've got the 1977 Rigoletto playing, and I'm shamelessly skipping through it. It's wonderful to see and hear these people (Domingo et al.) in their prime and fun to see the old telecasts, but there's no danger of my being sucked in like I was for Falstaff the other day.

So you know:

You’ve got a lot on your mind, but you’re not quite sure if you’re ready to share it with the world. When Mercury is opposite expansive Jupiter, you tend to overthink and overcommit, and when the end result is less than you hoped for, you question your own plans, ideas, and even beliefs.

At the same time, the Mercury-Neptune trine stimulates your creativity and imagination, but the details tend to get eclipsed by the big picture. Your dreams and fantasies take center stage, further clouding your vision about what’s real and what’s only in your head.

Jane these are the veggie burgers I’m eating

Thank you for the link.  They look very good.  I will add them to my Costco shopping list.  Did you find them in the freezer section?

No they were in the fresh meat section.  They are very nice with my veggies stew qnd the sunflower seeds gives it a nice crunch.  I'm very happy with them, much to my surprise

:o  No wonder I have never seen them.  That is an odd place for vegetarian products.

To my mind they are not a substitute for meat, more like an eggplant  alternative

The website does not show how much protein is in them.  If it isn't much I might not buy them.

Barnum is happy that the windows are open and he can hear his cousins singing outside.....he is also singing in his outside voice....

From the attic in his cage he can see outside......

Awww.  Maybe it is a time to see another photo of him, or a video of him singing in his outside voice.

Listening to the superb Zino Francescatti do various violin concertos - we've already had the Mendelssohn (now my favorite version of it), Tchaikovsky, Bruch, and finishing up Lalo, then the last is Sibelius.  Doesn't hurt to have conductors like Szell, Schippers, Mitropoulos, and Bernstein.

Most of the time has been spent thinking about my days managing shoe storeS in California,
Oregon, and Washington.  Not exactly exciting memories, but that was what was on the bill for this morning.

Did you begin doing that in California and work your way back home?

No, I started in Tacoma.  Then I transferred to Portland as the Asst. Manager.  I took a few months off, so my friend Tim and I could move to Laguna Beach.  When that didn’t work, I came back to Tacoma, then transferred to downtown Seattle, and finally to our southcenter store, which was one of the nicest stores.
