Well, you've read the notes, the notes were flummoxed and yet had feeling, and now it is time for you to post until the flummoxed cows come home.

Well, today's going to be a day.  I'm going back to my parents' for my family's sometimes-weekly get-together dinner (actually, lunch), but I probably won't stay for the Phase 10 playing portion of the get-together.  My friend David is visiting from Seattle and he wanted to know if we could get together and visit (safely distanced, of course) for a while.  I said that that wouldn't be a problem, so I'll see him after dining with the family.

And now, since I didn't really get much sleep last night/this morning, I'm going to bed now.  I know it's early (for me), but it must be done.

Good night and have a good day, all!

I slept quite nicely until sometime around 4:00 when a pushy Stella drove Thatch of, Around the same time Annabelle decided she was getting under my blankets for warmth.  From that point sleeping was hell.  I will catch up with a nap later,

BK, that Barbirolli recording of Dido and Aeneas was my first Purcell recording, around 1968.  I'm very fond of it, but, like Sir Thomas Beecham's Messiah (http://Messiah), other 17th and 18th century music recorded before, say, 1964, the approach was a late 19th century attitude toward the baroque: trills, mordents, etc, when written in the score, no improvisation.  So, it's now considered an old-fashioned recording, but I still love it.

BK, I was thinking, too, since you like Verdi'd Requiem, that you might like Verdi's last two operas written in the same period as the REquiem, Otello and Falstaff, both based on Shakespeare plays.

No bass to speak of - but it is loud and makes the records sound great.

Had a few peanuts to bring the calorie count closer to 1000.  I actually found a calorie count for pasta papa and it's even lower than I thought at 640.  Makes sense, though - about three or four ounces of pasta, maybe two eggs, a couple of pieces of bacon shredded into bits, turkey sausage (not much) and not cooked in butter or anything, just a tiny bit of oil.  And yet, filling and wonderful.

I'm halfway through the 1951 Toscanini Verdi Requiem - it seems like a fine performance but hard to get past the sound, I'm afraid.  Can't wait to hear the Ormandy and I also found the Reiner, which is supposed to be great, as well as the Leinsdorf - both under four bucks.  Everyone raves about the 1964 Giulini but I've never liked his recordings and when I read "except for all the distortion" well, don't even care to try it.  None of the later conductors interest me much.

I don’t think I would have enjoyed WEST SIDE STORY as much, if I had first seen it onstage with Carol Lawrence and Larry Kert.

Carol’s singing is okay, but her acting......

I don't know if I've seen Carol Lawrence act in anything.  I've just hear her sing.

George, you should tell your sister to look into raising black soldier fly larvae for her chickens. I'm sure they'd do well there.

They sure as heck are doing well in my backyard.

Thanks for the tip, Laura.  I'll let her know. :)

When I was in high school I was always casting movie musicals with me in the lead (of course).  In one I decided to cast was CARNIVAL with me and my great love Jenny as the leads, but I wanted to cast Robert Goulet as Marco and Carol Lawrence as Rosalie.

If you don’t know the show, you wouldn’t get the jokes.

I played Jacquot in a local production!

Again, thank you for the birthday wishes.  And if you are in the mood to give me a present, please pet and hug your pets (especially kitties) for me.

You got it, Jan!

But why was Carol Lawrence nominated for the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical?

Isn’t Maria the female lead?

But why was Carol Lawrence nominated for the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical?

Maybe it was one of those situations where they felt that she'd have a better chance at an award if they put her in a category with less competition.  Or maybe because her name wasn't above the title, so the nominating committee automatically put her in the featured actress category because the producers didn't ask for her to be considered for a lead award.  So many possibilities.

You are probably right about her name not being above the title.

Today was a fun day.  I had lunch at my parents' house, and we played a game of Phase 10.

Then, even though it was still kind of early, my sister and her daughter decided to go home, so I contacted my friend David and we met in downtown Olympia.

When I got there, we walked around downtown for a while, then David wanted to go out to the Boston Harbor marina and see the water.

I had only been down there for the play that I was in that was set there, so this would be different.

They do bring in ringers for that series, Encore.  Jenna Lea Rosen was brought in to do Fiddler and she was never part of the school or the production.

I got there and found a parking spot a couple of blocks away, and we got something to drink (diet Pepsi for me) and we stood under the awning of the little deli and chatted and watched people playing in the water.

After a while, we walked along the pier and found a place to sit and watch the boats on the water, then after a while, we started to walk back to the land.
