Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the love of art, and now it is time for you to post until the artful cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ROISTER!
-
I'm pretty excited about tonight's Backstage at Kritzerland!
-
I have no specific plans today, so I don't think I'll leave my house at all. If I do, it probably won't be for very long, but I'll definitely be here for the streaming!
-
Off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Glory Hallelujah, we're up!
In comparing notes with DR Elmore, I know the site's been inaccessible for at least four and half hours, i.e. since 7:15 eastern this morning.
-
So...
Good morning, all!
-
I’ve been unsuccessful to get on all morning too. Kept getting ‘data base error” message
-
Last night DR George posted:
I didn't know that you could upload personal pics to Amazon!
I didn't either. Never heard of this. It says you get 5GB of storage, so that could be useful.
I'm just trying to figure out why someone would use that. Easy access for uploaders and others alike? Can you create "albums" and limit what's accessible to everyone? I might check into it sometime, but no rush.
-

In case it's of any help at this point (probably not, since it's fixed), the exact message was
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Good morning, all!
-
I was reading page 6 of yesterday's notes when the site went down at 7:10 Eastern Daylight Time this morning. Nice tro see it back up.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Glad to be able to connect.
-
Thanks for uploading that full, glorious photo, DR George.
-
I have ordered a deck of Phase 10 cards.

There is a digital stream version of Bernard Hermann's opera, Wuthering Heights, from MN Opera available at:
https://my.mnopera.org/wuthering-heights
It is pay-what-you-wish, as long as what you wish is at least $15. Unlimited viewing for the next 2 weeks.
-
And let me add to the sentiments of joy that HHW is back up and running.
-
Looking forward to Kritzerland this evening.

Thank you, DR singdaw!
I wonder what their reasoning is in making the "pay what you want" minimum only $10 and up for ages 21-45. Aren't such discounts normally directed toward, say, students and seniors? Hmmm...

I have a question regarding book ratings on Amazon. My cousin wrote a book called #80: And Other Dog Stories, #80 referring to the identification number of a dog she rescued.
After reading my cousin's post on FB today I am confused about the ratings. I thought Amazon was rather strict and only those that purchased the books from Amazon could give them a rating. Maybe, someone/Bruce can explain this to me.
"As much as I would love it, not everyone is going to like me our like what I do. That is a fact. So today when I looked and saw I had a 3 star review on Goodreads, I had a sad face. It goes along with a 4 star review on Goodreads. Goodreads is owned by Amazon, so those stars appear on Amazon. 73 five stars, a 4 star and a 3 star. The 4 star person was kind enough to write something and I appreciate those words. 3 star person, not one word. It is hard to learn to improve without a few words.
So, I have a frowny face this morning. But there is nothing I can do about it. I am not going to re-write the book (although I seriously thought about it) It does not discount the 73 fantastic reviews. Some are not going to like my book and that is going to have to be OK."
-
Good morning.
-
I want to know if Sasha has a loud purr, and is she generous with it? Does she cuddle?
-
From DR TCB
What details would you like? She was a stray that was brought to Animal Rescue, because they are the largest no-kill shelter in Washington. She was already fixed when she was found. The first place that found her named her Sasha. I like the name, so I guess I will keep it.
This does answer my question, if you responded earlier I missed it, regarding her name. I didn't realize she had been found already spayed.
You have mentioned she cuddles, but not the extent of her cuddling. I also like DR Laura's question about her purr.
Does she follow you around and jump in your lap a lot?
What toys does Sasha like to play with?
It sounds as if she has adjusted easily. Is this true?
-
DR TCB, we want to know everything ;)

No you can review a book on amazon without buying it on amazon. But you need to have spent a certain amount of money on amazon.
Goodreads reviews and ratings are completely separate from amazon reviews. Many people can review on one or the other. They don't transfer.
-
DR Jane, continuing from above about your cousin's book. The problem on goodreads is that a person could accidentally click on a low number of stars without even reading the book. And also lots of people only rate books on goodreads without reviewing them. But I personally wouldn't make too much of it.
-
Down by the sea lived a lonesome ROISTER,
Every day getting sadder and moister ...
-
Got a pot of mushroom lentil soup on the stove. Smells wonderful. Used some very fragrant porcini mushroom bouillon I had.
-
One more.

Two!

I find it crazy when people rate books without rating them. You see that before books are even released and the person did not receive an advance copy.
It must have been a coincidence the ratings changed on Amazon after the 3 star on Goodreads.

I find it terrible to rate books without reading them. But tons of people rate books without writing a review.

Sunday afternoon greetings! After my busy few days, I've taken it slow today. Didn't even "go" to church with Richard, but we did spend some quality time together making our traditional Sunday lunch and watching the Bengals lose - again.

Here is a cute, 30-second video from the library where my career began. It's part of a series about their pandemic response procedures. DR Elmore might notice some changes in the building's interior:

Thank you, all, for the nice comments about the card making photos I shared on Facebook. Thanks, especially, to DR Jane for the comment on my hair. It was the third compliment I'd received in 2 days, just when I'd begun to wonder if it's time for another cut. When I saw the cover of the PARADE magazine that came in today's paper, I realized my hair doesn't look any worse than Martha Stewart's. And she probably had a stylist.
-
Thanks for uploading that full, glorious photo, DR George.
My pleasure, Sindaw! I just wish the image could be hot-linked and show here on HHW without having to go to another site to view it.

I have ordered a deck of Phase 10 cards.
Great! Hope you enjoy it!

There was a woman in my Ashland book group that often read about the book vs reading it herself. She had much to say about a book she never read ;D It was annoying and funny when we all loved the book and she had many negative comments regarding it.

Thanks. We easily do that though I rarely review a book on Amazon.

Very cute. I like sanitizing your space when you are done, kind of what people should always have been doing at gyms. Like gyms I wouldn't trust that to be done correctly and would also sanitize first.

;D I really do like your new hair length.
-
I think Billy Bigelow was a roister.
-
DR JANE some confused people also use the product review page to review the seller & item they got.......including comments such as "crushed when it arrived" and "took a long time to ship", etc.....or they just leave a few stars and NO comments.......although this wouldn't apply if the book is only available NEW.
-
Checking to see what happened this morning while I was fast asleep getting about ten hours of sleep.
-
Relaxing and will shave and shower shortly.
-
Made sure everything is ready and it seems to be.
-
I have an unscheduled rehearsal beginning in five minutes.....if I'm not around for the show....that's were I be.

We watched a very well done and very disturbing documentary on Netflix this afternoon called The Social Dilemma. It's about how social media is changing society, and how the "customers" are the advertisers and we, the "users," are the product. Highly recommended.
-
Two hours to show time :)
-
When there's a Kritzerland show no one can make an unscheduled rehearsal - please inform your people.

Scary.

Have a good show.

DR Singdaw what is the deal with your rapidly changing avatar? ;) ;D
-
Trying to find the right balance between highbrow and lowbrow. I think I've settled on it now.
-
I did not take a nap this afternoon, so hoping sleep will be better tonight.
-
Just saw some photos of Butchart Gardens (Victoria, Canada) in autumn glory. Stunning!
-
To change the subject: Nothing like a good molded salad...
-
From the sublime to the ridiculous, I suppose.
-
You can "like" Butchart Gardens on FB.
-
If you like molded salads, I'm not sure what you can do.

;D
-
If you like molded salads, I'm not sure what you can do.
Yum. Are there lima beans or sardines floating in there?
-
Looking at recipes on the Internet.
So far, "apple slab pie" and "salted caramel pretzel blondies" have caught my eye.
-

Variety.

I think it's anchovies.

From DR George yesterday "Matthew (and anyone else interested), did you know that ALW started to write a version of Aspects of Love in the early 1980s with Tim Rice? When that didn't happen, Trevor Nunn wrote some lyrics, and a couple of YouTube videos are out there:
"I Don't Talk to Strangers," with lyrics by Tim Rice (this was an actual released recording)
"Married Man," with Trevor Nunn lyrics, performed live on The Merv Griffin Show
When THAT didn't happen, most of the music went into the version of The Phantom of the Opera that everyone now knows (plus a little Fanciulla del West. ;)"
Yes I did know that. Tim Rice thought he was working on Aspects of Love and all of a sudden the melodies he set were in another show! He was quite surprised. I'd never heard "I Don't Talk to Strangers" before, thank you for posting that!
-
Variety.
The spice of life, so they say.
-
Today, I went to church, as usual. Pretty uneventful. The 10:00am mass is back in the church again, so that was fun. It's been in the school yard since June. Now that school is back, we are back into church. I'm sure if anything changes, school will be back at Distance Learning and we will again take over the school yard. Hopefully that wont happen. After church, I went to the shops and made grooming appointments for the boys for next Sunday, went to Cost Plus hoping to find cool fall-type snacks, and was totally disappointed, so I went to Target and picked up moving materials. Came home, relaxed and now I'm getting ready for the evening and the Kritzerland show.

I have this on my watch list. But not sure when I will get to it. It sounds interesting.

My favorite thing that I have watched on netflix this month is Emily in Paris. So fun and funny. I loved it.

Good thought but then I will just keep wanting to go there.

Ten minutes to show time. Places!
-
THANK YOU, PLACES.
-
Ugh - as usual, my tech is not behaving. I don't want to be late!
-
And that's a wrap. Fantastic show!
-
Thank you to bk and all the folk that participated and made it happen.
-
That was a great show! Well, not quite a "show", as such, but it was so good it kind of felt like one. Well done by all concerned.
-
Loved the interviews, BK!
-
That was fun! Thanks, Bruce!
-
FOur!
-
Great show, Bruce.
-
Whew! Well, that was fun - thanks to all who watched. :)
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Just finished That's Entertainment II, which may be my favorite in the series if only for Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
-
Whew! Well, that was fun - thanks to all who watched. :)
They all seem like really good people beyond being great performers.
-
Backstage at Kritzerland was very interesting and a lot of fun. I think I liked Rober Yacko the best, but everyone was good.
Bruce, you probably won't know until tomorrow, but how was attendance?
-
Singdaw, I like the rubber ducky.
-
Good night.
-
Waiting for Paul McCartney to appear on ACL Fest 2020 on YouTube. He's scheduled for a hour from now, 10:05 p.m. CT. This is footage from the concert I saw a few years back.
-
Gratuitous post No. 100!
-
Attendance wasn't what it is for the real shows, but we had sixty people between the two sites and I think a lot of folks watch after the fact, including some of our very own folks.
-
I wanna hear Hartley sing Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most.
-
It was fun watching McCartney again, and the pyrotechnics surrounding Live and Let Die were captured and edited well. The finale, Hey, Jude, was as wonderful as I remembered.
-
I'm fading fast.
-
Going to try to finish up Anxious People and get some sleep.
-
Good night, all.
-
Hartley will be singing that in the November show.
-
Listening to music.
-
Well, I didn't make it back to watch Backstage at Kritzerland as it was streaming live (sorry BK), but I did just watch it.
-
I loved it!
-
It was fun and informative and everyone seemed to really enjoy the whole process. :)

And the video that I posted of Andrew and Sarah on The Merv Griffin Show...I actually remember watching that actual episode when it was broadcast!
-
I remember because I'd read in the TV Guide that they were going to be on, and I got my little Sears (I think) audio cassette recorder and stuck it in front of my TV speaker and actually recorded that song and had been listening to it for years.
-
When I bought the original London cast album of The Phantom of the Opera (not having heard anything from it before I got the record) and I heard that tune, I just started laughing my head off because I had known it as the song about the woman in love with a married man that Sarah Brightman sang on The Merv Griffin Show! :D

PAGE FIVE DANCE!!

My favorite thing that I have watched on netflix this month is Emily in Paris. So fun and funny. I loved it.
That's great that you like it Jennifer. I've read some not-so-great reviews of the show. :-\
-
I don't have Netflix, so I can't comment about anything. ::)
;)
-
If you like molded salads, I'm not sure what you can do.
I really like tomato aspic salads. My mom made a great shrimp tomato aspic every Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well.
-
My sister hated the aspic salad, but she loved my mom’s cranberry/apple molded salad, which I hated. So, my mother was forced to make both salads, year in and year out.

The Seattle Seahawks won an incredible come from behind game against the Minnesota Vikings
-
Hi, Tom.
-
They scored the winning touchdown with 15 seconds left in the game.
-
The Seattle Seahawks won an incredible come from behind game against the Minnesota Vikings
That's great! Congrats to the Seahawks!
-
We were very lucky they won, because the Seahawks didn’t even bother to show up during the first half of the game.
-
I am sorry, Bruce, that I missed today’s show. I hope it will still be available tomorrow, so that I can catch up on it.
-
We were very lucky they won, because the Seahawks didn’t even bother to show up during the first half of the game.
What?? Do you mean metaphorically because they didn't play well at first, or did they literally not show up?
-
I review books on Amazon that I don’t buy from them. All of BK’s books, for example.
-

What?? Do you mean metaphorically because they didn't play well at first, or did they literally not show up?
Metaphorically. I believe they would have been disqualified if they had literally not shown up.
-
I think I am going to sleep in tomorrow morning.
-
That is, if Sasha will allow me to sleep in.
-
I think I will get started right now.
-

Well, it seems like anything can happen these days. ::)
-
Well, after I re-clean the litter box. For both of our sakes. (Cough, cough)
-
Good night, George.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Well, that's three people who didn't watch live. Oh, well. Of course it will be available to watch, but we do like it MUCH better when you watch WITH us rather than after the fact.
-
Does there seem to be a DEARTH of postings?
