Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Frenching all over the place, and now it is time for you to post until the Frenching cows come home.

I was just about to post this last night in response to a post from Jane:
I've been watching Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I vaguely recall watching the first episode and nothing after that.  DId you enjoy it?

I have been enjoying it.  I just wish it hadn't ended. :-\

Got it.  I thought you meant you just began the series.

No, I've been watching it from the beginning.  The first couple of seasons were a bit wonky.  They were still trying to decide where they were going and how they fit in the whole Marvel Universe, but they finally got their stride and turned into a good show IMHO (that's In My Humble Opinion, in Internet lingo ;) ).

And now, I'm off to bed because I have to go to work in the morning (damn Mondays!).  Fortunately, I did some laundry last night and washed my jeans so I'll have something to wear.  I have some clean shirts, so I didn't need to wash any of those.

Good night, Jane, and have a good day, all!

I had a pretty good night of sleep. Annabelle stayed with me all night, and Thatch and Stella made appearances.  This morning I need to snoop about in search of the source of Stella's racket.  It sounded as if she were rifling through my carton of rubber stamps.

We did not watch Close Encounters last night.  I got caught up in CNN programs.  I had already turned off the TV before Jake Taspper got into a tussle with that idiot supremo Lara Trump.  I'm sorry I missed that.

I like Francis Poulenc and Maurice Durufle, as far a French composers go.

Their music is generally published by Durand, and tres expensive.

I also like Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel, of course.

I like all of the composers en France mentioned already....especially Saint-Saens and Debussy and Ravel.

My favorite French movies from France include:

Umbellas of Cherbourg
Les uns at les autres
Les Enfants Terribles
Mon Oncle

and a few more that will no doubt be mentioned as the day goes along.

French film composers - George Delerue is at the top of my list, although there are some others.....

Title: Re: FRENCHING
Post by: Jrand73 on October 19, 2020, 06:11:26 AM
Rehearsal was fine last night.  We did the whole show.  It is those with the smallest roles who ask the MOST questions and have the most difficulty with props and costumes.....

Notes will be in later today.

If anyone is familiar with how ZOOM works technically.  I cannot get the green screen slide to work.  When I use it, anything black I wear becomes green....  I have a feeling it might be because I am further away from the wall behind me - which includes a book case....   I hung a solid gray cloth behind me with the same result.  I bought some dark green material and hung that up....same result.....

It is most frustrating.  If I don't use the green screen slide and only use the dark green material, it works.....but I don't know if that will enable the technician to add the background.

We shall see.  He didn't have anything to say last night, but they recorded to show....so we shall see.

Tonight we are recording scenes 1-3.  Although Mr Bob Cwatchit doesn't have his costumes.....so I doubt that Scene Two - my scene - will be recorded.

Finis.

On Dec. 21, 2018, I was in great turmoil over Thatch.  Every time I tried to take him to the vet, it was a chase to find him or catch him to put him into his carrier.  I had two cancel two appointments on Dec. 20 because of this, and I needed Val - come back to us, Val! we miss you - to help[ me catch him.

I got to the bus stop, where I sat with his carrier on my lap and wept.  I was so angry, so frustrated over his health and difficulty that I didn't know what to do.  My attitude was, I'm sick of this, I don't want him any more and I'm taking him to the animal shelter.  Then I thought, I love him, the shelter will euthanize him because he's semi-feral; what do I do?  I decided to see which bus came along first: downtown and we'll go to the vet' uptown and we'll go to the shelter.  And I wept madly because I loved this baby and I wasn't coping at all.

The first bus that came along was an uptown one, and I couldn't do it. Nearly three years later, I am so happy I made the right decision to let that bus go by.

I bring this up because today, after eighteen months, I am ready to to return Stella.  I've spent the last hour cleaning up and vacuuming the remains of a telephone book and a roll of paper towels she's shredded.  I am so tired of this and it's either return her or beast her to a pulp.  Perhaps I will change mind on both once I've had some breakfast and calmed down.

John Yap posted on FB that his forever-in-the-making recording of Anyone Can Whistle had 42 musicians. I questioned it, since the orchestra had no violins, and those are usually what augments a recording session, but I cannot imagine he's got 10 violas and 10 celli or whatever it would take to turn a band of 26-28 players to 42!  So in his reply he accused me of trying to kill sales of the recording!  He is such a mess.

Don't give up on Stella!!   If you need to, put her in her carrier at night.  And most importantly, if you catch her in the act, put her in a time out - probably in the carrier!

DR singdaw yes it is nice that DePauw is doing this project.  The students are a mix of on-campus and virtual ones so getting their costumes & props to them is a chore.

I live 35 miles away - so I provided my own costumes and props.  I needed a top hat, but it was brought to me by the costume shop head who also happens to be a member of the PCPH board.  So I got it at the October 11 meeting.

I'll take it back to the theatre on November 4 when we record the Season Announcement if it's needed before next April.

Thanks again for the good wishes. The appointment was surprising. The doctor went to take a sample of the growth for biopsy, and the entire thing just popped out. I was amazed at how large it was. In any case, of course it will be sent for testing. Assuming it was benign, nothing further will be required, which is quite a relief. Thanks to local anesthesia, I didn't feel a thing. It's draining a bit, but no torrent of blood, so all in all a very successful appointment.

Strange. I want to see the video.

You must be the target demographic for "Dr. Pimplepopper."       ;D

:P is what I say.  My mom, who is a retired nurse, likes that show.

We watched it once while in a hotel room with few viewing options.  Oh my, this would have been nothing compared to what we saw.

Re John Yap - he is shameless and really ignorant.  He's been sitting on that recording for twenty-four YEARS.  I've called him out on that as have others - he gets very testy, very childish, and he finally decides to mix the album and acts like he's God for doing so, has been posting relentlessly about it everywhere you can post, had a cover art contest and if that's the best he got it's really bad and many people have commented on it and he  goes after anyone who does, saying it's brilliant and everyone will understand when they see it, got Sondheim to give him a quote (who hasn't), and at this point I'm beyond caring if it's good or bad.  And why forty-two musicians - listen to the OBC - it sounds great and they most certainly did not augment what was already a large band by Broadway standards.  He really is a mess and he REALLY doesn't like me, which means I enjoy taking him on every now and then, just for fun, to watch him attack me and implode.

He also gave all the charts I did for Matt Bogart to one of those Bravo Broadway concert companies, and I don't evenm know if I get credited when those charts are used.  I also wonder if he pays R&H and other rental places for pulling the same crap.

I responded in the thread.  I lost any respect when, for all his solo albums, he would make the singers use tracks he already had for other albums - yes, he'd have a few new orchestrations, but anyone who recycles tracks like that is putting the singer in a box they probably don't wish to be in.

Yes, the Eiffel Tower is in reference to Come Play Wiz Me, but what has that really to do with the themes of story of Anyone Can Whistle - it's a side note not what the show is about.

TOD:

I'm just going to mention some favorite directors, as the list of movies would be too long:

Renoir
Truffaut
Rohmer
Clair
Varda
Melville
Resnais
Ozon
Tavernier
Carne'

and Marcel Pagnol, who didn't necessarily direct all of the movies that he wrote, but his stories are amazing.

Another public service announcement pre the notes:

Hi all.  We're going to do a FLASH SALE for our entire in-print catalogue of wonderful CDs, Blu-rays, and DVDs - 30% off everything for 48 hours only starting now.  Because PayPal is not set up for discount codes, here's how we have to do this:
You'll note whatever titles you want to purchase.   Then you'll go directly to paypal.com and click on "Send money."  You'll fill in the total price for your item or items - those are all listed on the specific item pages.  You'll fill in our paypal address, which is kritzerland at adelphia dot net (note the "net" not "com" and obviously you use @ and . for the "at" and "dot - be sure you're spelling everything correctly).
Most items are $19.98 so those would be $14.  $23.98 items would be $17.00, and $29.98 items would be $21.  Then you add the shipping charge - for the US it's $4.50 for up to two CDs, it's $7.50 for three to six CDs, seven or more, it's priority shipping so $14.  International rates are: $15 for one or two CDs, $21.00 for three to four CDs, $28.00 for five to ten CDs, and $38.00 for eleven to fifteen CDs, and $48.00 for sixteen and above.   You must put the titles you are ordering in the invoice (there is always somewhere to leave a message for the seller).  And be sure your address is in the invoice - very important!  It's that simple. And - go!  www.kritzerland.com
