Well, you've read the notes, the notes were all over the place, and now it is time for you to post until the all over the place cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GRAVITAS!
-
Today, I'll leave work early and go to my mom's to visit with Margita and Judy, and have dinner. That's why I made the mini-cheesecakes. These didn't turn out quite right, though. I had one and it was kind of spongy, not dense and firm the way they should be. :-\ Oh, well. It tasted good, just not exactly the right texture. They will, of course, firm up after being in the fridge all night, but still, they won't be the same as when they're the way they're supposed to be.
-
I haven't seen Totally Under Control,
-
Margita's friend Laura, and Judy's two adult daughters will also be there tonight. I hope no one's infected with Covid! Of course, if anyone would be showing symptoms, they wouldn't be there. But there's no way to know if they're positive but asymptomatic. I'm bringing my mask, just in case.
-
And now, I need to get to sleep. I want to see if I can get to work a little earlier so that I don't have to use as much vacation time.
Good night, Jane, and Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I stayed up too late. I thought the debate was beginning at 8:00, not 9:00, and I wasn't in bed till after 11:00. This will be a long day. I have to finish cleaning out the fridge and getting as much out ofd the way for the service men that I can. I have plenty of emptied cans and jars to schlep to the basement as well.
-
The problems with the serial lying Fat Orange Slug for me are these: he's so dishonest I never believe a thing he says and having to listen to strings of lies coming from a monotonous, dead voice is an ordeal that no human should ever suffer. I suspect some of that was caused by a tiny cautionary gray cell trying to keep an uncontrollable superego in check. I did keep waiting for his inner narcissistic megalomaniac to take over, and it happened later than I expected it to. Still, it did happen.

This morning I received this alarming email from the NY Board of Elections:
Your Absentee Ballot Application cannot be processed as received.
The quickest way to apply for an Absentee Ballot is by using our online portal at https://nycabsentee.com/. The deadline to apply is October 27, 2020 or in-person by November 2, 2020.
You may vote early from October 24th – November 1st at your assigned early voting location.Hours for early voting and locations can be found at https://findmypollsite.vote.nyc/
-
So, I went to their site, which confirms they received my ballot on Oct. 16, but it will not let me apply for another ballot and it says nothing about any problem.
-
Kitty cleanup is over. I have much to accomplish this morning, I'm hoping the new fridge is delivered closer to noon than to 5:00.
-
Good morning.
-
Elmore, I'd be very wary of that email. I would think that anything that comes from the elections department would come from a .gov email address.
-
At least that's how it works out here.
-
I love THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH.
One of my favorite Hitchcock movies.
-
Here's the book trailer for my new play, ABE VIGODA.

I agree.

Put 'em back the way they wuz! :-X
-
DR vixmom - congratulation on your loss! :)
-
I would like to watch Totally Under Control because it was made by people who graduated from the same college as I did. I fear I won't be able to stomach it, though, for the same reason I did not watch any of the debates. Just hearing 45's voice is triggering for me.
-
I hear your, DR elmore3003. I am just back from schlepping all the recycling to our building's basement. I have to do it very early on Friday morning; otherwise, the bins are full for the next week.
-
I am thrilled with the arrival of my new toy: a set of bamboo toast tongs. It has a built-in magnet so I can keep them handy near the toaster.
No more burnt fingers!

No, the site is good. This site says so: https://absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov
Enter for county "New York (Manhattan)" and it tells you to go to this site:
https://nycabsentee.com/tracking the same in my email.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm glad you checked that out, Elmore. I'm sorry about the ballot trouble. I hope you can easily get it sorted out.
-
Seems about right...

I can dump stuff today but by tomorrow the place will be overloaded until Monday morning.
-

I sent an email inquiry, and we'll see what they say.
-
Don't you, as a voter with an inquiring mind, want to hear more details about Biden's big linens scandal? 8)
-
TWO!
-
DR elmore3003 - here's hoping you don't have to vote in person after all.
-
Isn't GRAVITAS the Greek god of falling down?
-
I thought they were not allowed to open the ballots until Election Day.....how would they know something was wrong?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I awoke to an allergy day. Not a horrible one so far.
-
Good morning!
-
I have a boat-sized GRAVITAS bowl I use at Thanksgiving.
-
In my email this morning there was an ***URGENT*** notice from the CT DOL. It turned out to be just a reminder to everyone about the dangers of phishing emails and such. But that was on my mind as I read DR Elmore’s post about the ballot, and that message sure does seem weird.
-
I awoke to an allergy day. Not a horrible one so far.
I have had far fewer allergy days since working from home.
-
And the word of the day is: GRAVITAS!
I love the recordings of Debbie GRAVITAS!
-
And the word of the day is: GRAVITAS!
Using this word in a sentence:
We don't need no stinkin' GRAVITAS.

Someone posted about BK/Elmore’s SHERLOCK HOLMES album yesterday, and it made me want to listen to it. I shall do so today.
Last night, right out of the blue, I popped in the Blu-ray of VANISHING POINT (1970). For whatever reason, a classic muscle car / road movie was just the ticket.
Tonight or sometime this weekend we’re making a point of watching SLEEPY HOLLOW which I haven’t seen in years. I’m looking forward to that.

I missed that completely. I may have been too entranced by Trump's imagery of coyotes carrying children across the US border from Mexico.
-
DR elmore3003 - here's hoping you don't have to vote in person after all.
Thanks! Early voting starts tomorrow and the polls are only a block away. I could walk there if only to inquire. I'm sure I will get a response to my email.

It's really a very good BK/Lanny Myers album. I am very honored that I was asked to orchestrate the Sondheim song.

I've done all the housekeeping I will do until the new fridge arrives. Tomorrow I will vacuum the entire apartment. What I need to do now is remove the remaining items from the refrigerator and get them out of the way until the new one is installed.
-
Does the vacuuming alarm the kitties?
I'm sure maneuvering a large appliance like a fridge is difficult in your studio.

They hide from the vacuum. I'm sure there will be fridge issues today.

I see there’s a free ASMAC web thing tomorrow on Robert Russell Bennett that includes Bruce Pomahac and Jonathan Tunick.

I saw that, too. Sadly, Bruce no longer regards me as a friend.
-
The fridge is emptied. Stella and Thatch are having a field day sniffing through the various bags holding cans, bottles, and jars.
-
I always love a good squash mural.
-
Thunderstorms predicted for my area this afternoon.
-
They say we might get rain this weekend. That will be the first since the end of August. And the second since March, I believe.

Cool. I don't make toast enough to consider this.

I thought it was from the envelope. Otherwise I have no clue.

Today is day four since we dropped off our ballots. I hope, as expected, we will have confirmation of them.

:)) So true Laura.

I awoke to an allergy day. Not a horrible one so far.

Maybe your work needs to install an air filter.

Last night I thought CNN fact checker Daniel Dale's comment was brilliant. “With Trump you’re like the ‘I Love Lucy’ episode in the chocolate factory. You don’t know which [lie] to pick up because there’s just so much.”

I can dump stuff today but by tomorrow the place will be overloaded until Monday morning.
My condo has dumpsters right out back of my building. The garbage and recycling get picked up on Mondays and Thursdays. When I have trash and recyclables to take out, I usually take them out on Tuesdays and Saturdays when the dumpsters are practically empty, then I don't have to worry about them being filled. The garbage dumpster can get filled in the two days before the pick-up.
-
Fortunately, the dumpsters behind my building aren't the only dumpsters in the condo complex. If one is filled, I can put my stuff in another one. Of course, they all do get emptied on the same day, but not all of them fill at the same rate, so there's that.

Ditto to George's last two posts I didn't comment on earlier.
-
Our trash and recycling is in our garage. The person who takes it all combines the bins and leaves one trash and one recycling bin so we no longer go down only to remember it is trash day.
-
I wish to hell the refrigerator would show up.
-
Good Morning.
Currently listening to "Alabama", great music.
I'm technically done with teaching today, but I have some things to catch up on before I call it a day. A few of us will be heading to a Happy Hour later, so that's exciting.
Other than that, everything seems ok today.
-
The new Italian film of Martin Eden is streaming through the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. The Jack London novel was depressing, but two reviews I read are calling this one of the best films of the year. Is it worth the $12?
-
Is it worth the $12?
I don't know. But Martin Eden is no Martin Guerre.
-
The company has "trucking problems." If they do not show today, they will show up in the morning. Goddammit.

I blame 2020.

-
I/m up, I'm up - eight hours of erratic sleep. Didn't get to bed until after five for various reasons. At 9:20 the doorbell rang - tree trimmers asking me to move my car - Grant neglected to tell me they were coming. Fell back asleep pretty quickly, woke up at 11:30, fell back asleep and now I'm up and the day is basically done.
-
Is it worth the $12?
I don't know. But Martin Eden is no Martin Guerre.
There are things to be grateful for. Even in 2020.

So, I asked Alexa to play "They Call the Wind Maria" and, sure enough, she pronounced it like "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria."
You can't make these things up.

Well, since I cannot use my fridge and my apartment's too chaotic at the moment, I ordered dinner. I usually order from places where I put leftovers in the fridge, so I decided I wanted a burger and fries, and I ordered from the Shake Shack, which was new to me. I used to walk past the one in Madison Square Park when I was working on East 23rd Street and Park Avenue on the McGlinnventory, and the crowds were enormous. So, the cheeseburger, fries, and strawberry shake were deelish!

I guess my new fridge is arriving tomorrow, so I'm giving the babies their nightly treat, closing up shop, and settling in with my new obsession, CNN.
-
I blame Trump for everything, especially 2020.
-
Time for the musical version of War of the Worlds.
-
Picked up a package, stopped at Hugo's and got some pasta papa to go (cheaper than having it delivered - no tip, no fees - came home, ate it, answered e-mails, and then I worked on project one for ninety minutes. Now taking a break.

Even the orchestra was beautiful when Viola Smith was the drummer ...

John thank you for that soup recipe I made it tonight
-
I followed your lead and used a full can of unsweetened coconut milk
-
I failed to follow your lead and bought a whole butternut nut squash
-
That was a mistake I won’t repeat
-
I nearly lost a finger
-
Time for the musical version of War of the Worlds.
Not great, but surprisingly not as horrible as I had imagined. It’s not really a musical, though there are a few songs. The music is more background.
-
I read somewhere that if you microwave the squash for 5 minutes it’ll peel easier
-
So I punched it full of holes and did that
-
It was easier but by no means easy
-
I nearly lost a finger
Yup. That’s why I bought it already cut up. It’s not really vegan with a digit in it.
-
I made it on the stove top and it cooked for 45 minutes on simmer and then was done
-
I simplified it a bit
I cut one vidalia onion into chunks and cooked it until translucent in a tiny bit of olive oil
-
Instead of if fresh garlic I put a teaspoon of Penzeys roasted garlic in with the onion
-
Then I added the cut up carrot, squash, two cut up Granny Smith apples and 2 cups of vegetable stock
-
Oh and I even bought fresh sage and threw several leaves in there
-
I didn’t add any other seasoning
-
I finally got to use my immersion blender which I’ve had for years
-
The poor thing probably didn’t know what hit it after sleeping peacefully in its box in the back of the cupboard for the past decade or so, but it rose to the job
-
Then I added the can of coconut milk (first time I ever tried it)
-
I garnished my bowl with a little smoked spanish paprika
-
It was really good
-
Do you have any idea how to figure out how many calories per cup?
-
Whew... finally found page 5, I thought we’d never get here
-
Vixmom, this was in one of the comments:
If you import the recipe into my fitness pal, then divide into 6 servings, the nutrition info is:
188 cals, 31.3 carb (6.5g fiber), 4.6 fat, 4.3 protein. I used full fat coconut milk, but I’m sure you could slim it more as needed. Still very low calorie. This is with no toppings.
-
I don’t think it has that many carbs.
-
Good night, all.
-
Didn't have time for a movie, so watched some special features on the Hitchcock set.
-
And I've been working on project one, of course.
-
Now I'm listening to music and am about to shave so I don't have to get up even earlier than before.
-
Time for the musical version of War of the Worlds.
I have I think the original album. I haven't listened to it since I got it, so I want to watch the video.

That's a pretty cool article, John. And it was really cool that she was in Cabaret's Kit Kat Band!
-
I left work early and went to my mom's house.
-
Margita was there with her friend Laura.
-
And Judy was there with her two daughters, Annette and Angela.
-
They had eaten before I got there, but I wasn't really hungry, so I didn't have anything, yet.
-
I named my black cat Maria for the song.
Which song?
-
I brought the mini-cheesecakes that I made last night, and those that had one (or two), really like them.
-
Successful, again! ;D
-
My mom also made a cake (simple yellow box cake) with a "frosting" made of Cool Whip, pudding mix, and crushed pineapple.
-
That was quite good, too.
-
And it wasn't until we were leaving that my mom asked if I wanted to take the deviled eggs home with me.
-
What?? :o
-
She had deviled eggs this whole time??
-
Of COURSE, I wanted to take the deviled eggs home with me!
-
Evidently, they had them earlier, but nobody wanted anymore, so she didn't want to save them for tomorrow.
-
So, I took them (only seven...after I ate one) and will make egg salad sandwiches with them! :D
-
It was really good
I’ll bet vixdad didn’t eat it!
-
Hi, George.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
When I got home, my friend David called me and we chatted (actual voice chatting, NOT texting!) for almost two hours!
-
Can you imagine typing texts for almost two hours?? :o
:P

SIX!!!

I didn’t watch the debate last night, but I thought that it was scheduled between 6:00 and 7:30 pm PDT. So, I was a bit confused that I received a text at 7:28 pm that said, “Joe Biden just texted you for the very first time....”
Really, the first thing Joe thought to do after a 90 88 minute debate was to send me a text? I would have used the bathroom, myself.

Sometimes.

I text with one finger, so I'd just call the person whether they'd want me to or not.

Stephen Colbert is showing Greatest Campaign monologues and Jimmy Kimmel a rerun with Borat. I think it will be an early bedtime.

The plan now? Destroy the nest. The agency says it intends to eradicate it on Saturday, removing the tree if necessary.
