Well, you've read the notes, the notes felt more like themselves, and now it is time for you to post until the feeling like themselves cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TRUCULENT!
-
I was definitely TRUCULENT with the tree people.
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Today is the weekly Phase 10 at my mom's. At least, I haven't heard that it's been cancelled, so I plan to go over there. But first, sleep. 8)
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR singdaw, two words: avoid magnets.
-
BK, are you now on Project Two? I am very curious about Project One.
-
It's supposedly chilly outside, but I feel as though I am living in a sauna; it's too damned hot in this joint. I'd like to lay my hands on the jerk who complained about no heat in this building.
-
I slept well until 4:30 or so. I had many dreams but I only remember one and it took place in The Drama Book Shop. Some of my co-workers over the 15 years I worked there between 1979 and 1997 were in the dream, along with my college friend Judy Capes.
-
DR TCB, I too worry that the Fat Orange Slug will be re-elected, but I refuse to give up on Biden-Harris until the race is called next week. If Trump does win, I hope the Senate has enough Democrats to impeach the bastard.
-
DR JohnG, when we were recording Dearest Enemy in Dublin in 2012, we almost lost actor Stephen Rea, whom I loved in The Crying Game, because he had been going through a really bad case of shingles. Nurse your arm and thank your lucky stars.
-
Hi there I fell asleep around 8 pm yesterday and slept right through the night
-
Vibesfir everyone who needs them
-
Thatch likes to sit and the foot of my bed with his front legs propped on my bed frame, watching the hurly-burly. He reminds me of a cowboy leaning on a fence, and I've tried to catch a photo of him several times with my phone. Last night I got a couple of shots and sent them to our DR ChasSmith, who returned them as JPG files. Here's one of them with my feet in the photo.
-
And another.
-
DR Ginny, I'm saying nothing!
-
So great to see photos of Mr. Thatch!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Friday morning greetings!
DR Ginny, I'm saying nothing!
8)
-
DR Elmore, those are cute photos of Thatch (and your feet).
-
I just had my best sleep in days, if not weeks. After the horrible allergy day yesterday, I took the Benadryl at just the right time, went to bed an hour later, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. Another hour would have been even more perfect, but...you know...the cat. I shall now feed the little rascal.
-
No one has ever told me that I have cute feet. ;D
-
Glad to hear your good news re: allergies, DR ChasSmith.
-
And the word of the day is: TRUCULENT!
When trucks are succulent, they're TRUCULENT.
-
Wish I had more to report this fine morning.
But I don't.
-
Good one, last night, DR TCB, about the icing.
-
Glad to hear your good news re: allergies, DR ChasSmith.
Ditto.
-
TCB it was interesting reading about The Slender Thread.
-
Tom for a long time I have felt as you do about the results of the election. I have moments of hope but not many :(
-
So great to see photos of Mr. Thatch!
It's chaos here this morning. The three babies are planning their Halloween costumes so they can go Trick or Kibble-ing around the building.
-
No one has ever told me that I have cute feet. ;D
It was my socks.
-
I loved 10 and am trying to recall where it opened. I think I went to Westwood, so was it at the Village? Maybe the Avco? I can’t pin it down. The next place I saw it was a couple of months later at a very nice neighborhood theater in Miami Beach during the few months I was tooling around on my friends’ sailboat.
Some years later I caught a little bit of it on TV and couldn’t stand the lousy presentation, and I never acquired it on home video. I’ll have to get the Blu-ray.
It was the experience of seeing this film in a packed theater that turned the lightbulb on in my head as to Blake Edwards’ genius in editing, timing every moment to perfection, the result being literal explosions of laughter with just the right amount of time for it to dissipate. (Exhibit A: the moment with the minister’s dog.) Since then I’ve savored that brilliance in all of his films.
-
From TCB:
Stephen Colbert just said that we are currently so close to a Civil War in this country, that Ken Burns is already working on the series
;D
:(
-
I've always loved this photo of Thatch that DR ChasSmith took because his eyes are so beautiful.
-
When it comes to 10, though, remember when the Big Thing was (wait for it)
Bo Derek?
-
And Bolero!
-
Kitty cleanup is over. I needed some Gorilla Glue this morning, and I find I have none. I don't know why I simply don't order a new tube when the one I have gets opened. It's irritating. This is vexing, Annabelle would say.
-
When it comes to 10, though, remember when the Big Thing was (wait for it)
Bo Derek?
After her sterling version of Tarzan, 10 was too much.
-
We're getting another day of rain from the hurricane. I am so happy I do not have to step out this morning,
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all.
-
When it comes to 10, though, remember when the Big Thing was (wait for it)
Bo Derek?
And white women with cornrows?
-
We’re getting a bit of snow — YES! SNOW!! — mixed in with the rain here. God willing, it won’t be enough to cause tree branches to start coming down since most of the leaves are still on the trees. And also that the precip will have stopped well before tonight when it goes down to freezing. Otherwise, in the worst possible case, this could end up being the third Halloween disaster in the past nine years — the other two being the Nor’easter in 2011 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Talk about a double whammy. That’s what precipitated my getting the generator.
-
When it comes to 10, though, remember when the Big Thing was (wait for it)
Bo Derek?
And white women with cornrows?
Yes!
-
Sleep was difficult. I kept rolling onto either arm.
-
No snow. No.
-
Loving those cookies, DR Laura!
-
And Thatch - always adorable.
-
Along with DR TCB, I had no discernable reaction to my shingles shots. Lucky, I guess. Sorry for your discomfort, DR John G.
-
My arm was sore after the shingles shot. But it was the achiness and fatigue that I felt mostly. It wasn't really bad, but I'm glad I didn't have to go to work. I just felt crummy.
-
We always enjoy photos of your cats, Elmore.
-
Back in January one of our cast members got the shingles shots, and the day after the second one, she was dragging her ASS. She very nearly didn’t come to rehearsal that evening, but she isn’t that type so she was there. But man, she was dragging her ASS. Next day, she was fine.
-
Cowboy Thatch photos are indeed charming.
And yes DR LAURA's cookie avatar is most excellent.
-
I think MR BK should have added to his conversation with the Tree Men:
"Do you know WHO I AM?"
-
It is really Friday today. My sister may come today or she may come tomorrow - time will tell.
-
Last night I could find nothing on television I wanted to watch.
I finally tuned in to see Fresno play Colorado State in a football game. It was about as you might expect.
-
Good morning.
DR Laura, what a festive avatar!
-
I hate how cold it is getting now. It's depressing me that I can't ride my bike. :(
-
The sound stopped working on the TV yesterday. The DH got out his tools and took the dang thing apart, with me fretting in the background that it was ruined and would never go together again.
Well, darned if, once re-assembled, the thing worked again! It must have been that the circuit board just needed a little jostling.
Color me impressed.
-
No good can come from swallowing 12 of anything. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
-
Except perhaps potato chips.
-
We have arrived at TH3EE, incidentally.
-
What is the distinction between a goblin and a hobgoblin? That's what I'd like to know.
-
I wonder if it's like the distinction between flammable and inflammable.
-
Last night we watched:
THE BEST MAN
THE GREAT McGINTY
Tonight?
????
-
Yesterday, I finished the first draft of Act I of the next play in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS series.
Today, maybe I'll start Act II.
-
Looking forward to next Wednesday.
No more political ads on TV.
-
My arm was sore after the shingles shot. But it was the achiness and fatigue that I felt mostly. It wasn't really bad, but I'm glad I didn't have to go to work. I just felt crummy.
I had a hard time waking up this morning. I’m thinking it was the shot.
-
Except perhaps potato chips.
12 ounces of beer. That’s just for breakfast.
-
Good morning.
DR Laura, what a festive avatar!
They are beautiful.
-
Elmore and ChasSmith, thank you both for Thatch photos.
-
TOD:
If I get the VCR hooked up, I have a three-hour French movie called By the Grace of God about victims of priest sexual abuse. I also have Jean Gabin as Maigret, which I think was inspired casting.

I'm impressed, too!

What is the distinction between a goblin and a hobgoblin? That's what I'd like to know.
Goblins eat little kittens who should be home in bed. Hobgoblins is short for Hobo Goblins, AKA unemployed goblins.
-
It is so damned hot in this apartment that I turned on the AC. I called Jeff the super and asked if he knew who the person was who complained to the NY Housing Authority about no heat. He wouldn't tell me, but when I asked if it was Judy, my wonderful but truly neurotic neighbor, he confirmed it. I had suspected it was she because there have been too many times in the past 20+ years she's called or come by to ask if I have heat in my apartment. Jeff said she called him last week and said it was 40 degrees in her apartment when the outside temperature was 56 degrees F!
-
So, Jeff said he would go to the basement and turn off the heat. In the past, it's usually been on only in the mornings from around 5:00am to 9:00 or so, and then from around 4:00pm to 11:00 and that suits me just fine. I prefer to sleep in a cold room.

Why is your VCR disconnected? There's a wonderful Canadian movie about priest sexual abuse called The Boys of St Vincent.

When it comes to 10, though, remember when the Big Thing was (wait for it)
Bo Derek?
And white women with cornrows?
I had those in Jamaica. We went there with Keith's company for a conference where spouses were invited. If you had enough hair to put in a cornrow local women would grab it and try to force you to pay them to put it into cornrows. To avoid grubby hands we all ended up going to the nice clean hotel salon and having cornrows put in. Considering what the humidity was doing to our hair the cornrows were an improvement, and soooo easy. We washed our hair with them in and if any beads fell out the salon fixed them for free. Not really free if you tipped :)
I am sure I would have looked better had I been a few years younger. Keith loved them. When we returned home, me still in my cornrows, the kids about died of embarrassment.

DR Laura your avatar is very festive. The cookies look great.

Does anyone use oven liners? I had no idea they existed until I read that you need to check the brand. One company has issued a warning and announced a recall of their oven liners due to potential carbon monoxide poisoning.

I told you my brain was foggy. DVD. Everything was disconnected while the work was done repairing the wall.

Carols for a Cure 2020 has arrived.

I guess they recorded this a while ago. No new shows like Tina, Six or Jagged Little Pill included.

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
Aww, sweet happy cat waiting for the family. I hope they have a safe place to live.
-
elmore, starting project two next week. It's a really good idea, the basic idea, but I'm not sure if I can pull it off - we shall see.
-
ChasSmith - it was indeed the Village.

Just remember...the race might not actually be called next week, so be prepared for that. :-\
-
I have a FB friend who put up an article that Trump cancelled his election night party. She is excited that he knows he is going to lose. If she actually read the article she posted she would see the most likely reason is that chances are the race will not be called that night.
-
DR Elmore, those are cute photos of Thatch (and your feet).

Yup.

Everyone needs to stop posting polls and articles - just vote and then we'll all know the lay of the land.
-
Word froze up and when that happens it is so frustrating - have to force quit, retrieve all the documents, etc. And when I clicked to open project one it said it wasn't available. Of course, I went berserk. But I went to the document itself in my folder and it opened fine. This crap I do not need.
-
Not sure what to do about food today. I was going to go buy some ground beef and make pasta here but I don't feel like making that kind of mess, frankly. I don't want to use Grubhub so I could make hot dogs, which is no muss, no fuss, or I could call somewhere and order and go pick up, which is what I'm leaning towards.
-
Decided on Maria's Italian Kitchen, which is just two minutes from here. I called, ordered their good carbonara, which has a reasonable calorie count - under 1000 - and a side Caesar salad. I pick it up in twenty minutes. Meanwhile listening to another master to approve.

I went through the same tonight. I can't make pasta since I had to throw out all my ground beef and pork last week, I've discovered that Grubhub's charges are often a third of my bill and I havbe no money till Tuesday, so I ended up with beans and franks.
-
I forgot to thank you the other day, bk, for laying out all the different roles in the recording studio and who does what. It was interesting and helpful.
-
We really need to go grocery shopping, and I really do not want to. I've been raiding the pantry and freezer over the past few days. At some point, it will become inevitable.
-
That is a pretty amazing story/video of the cat escaping the fire.

Ushering tonight. Bruce Campbell is hosting a screening of Evil Dead.

That is a pretty amazing story/video of the cat escaping the fire.
The other day on FB someone posted a video of this woman walking past a driveway with two pit bulls on leashes. There was a cat lounging on the driveway, calmly lying there, and the dogs attacked it. The woman could do nothing and the cat was seriously injured. It was terrible.
-
Crazy afternoon here, but I got some stuff done.
-
DR Elmore, I see your package is reported as delivered -- in case you need to send Stella down to fetch it.

That's so cool! Enjoy, John!

Hello, everyone.
-
I went to acupuncture, picked up a veggie burger, and am now off for the day.

I am very curious about Project Two.

What do young opera singers do in their spare time?

Like BK, I don't care for the way the weather is bouncing around. But this is 2020 and so much is just plain weird.
-
Vibes to all.
TTFN.

Ordered from Maria's Kitchen, and then we had a comedy of errors and not a funny one since I wasn't in the mood for it. For some reason, I always think Maria's is right close by at Woodman and Ventura. But it wasn't there. It wasn't one the block east, it wasn't on the block west at which point I began looking for someone to run over because I was so irritated. I finally got the address from Siri and it's a damn half-mile away, near Casa Vega. I finally got there, got my order and came home and ate it. The carbonara was pretty good - not great - but pretty good and the side Caesar was fine. And now I am very full.
-
Listening to Szell doing the Beethoven sixth - I think of all the Beethoven symphonies the sixth and seventh are at least tolerable to me and this performance is great.
-
And that's the first half of the Szell box - fifty-three CDs listened to so far and I've begun uploading the next fifty-three. Happily, most of the discs are only forty minutes in length so it goes pretty quickly.
-
MIDNIGHT LIBRARY, which is on the list DR John shared of books with happy endings, is also a nominee on the Goodreads best fiction list. I won't get it from my library in time to read it before I have to vote.
-
Well, it's time for me to leave work and go to my mom's.
Until later.
-
I will have to shave and shower and look presentable tomorrow morning to attend a virtual bar mitzvah.
-
Then Sunday is November 1, which is the start of Open Enrollment for the Minnesota State health exchange. I'll be working all day.
-
So, a hot weekend on tap.
-
I would like a plate of DR Laura's cookies right about now.
-
Which is why it is a good thing they are digital.

Important information:
-
They are pretty tasty. Luckily, there are lots of children on my street who take the extras off my hands.

I'm home.
-
I left early from my mom's so that I could watch the remounting of Theater Artists Olympia's online play, The Culling (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1vuJzBOmOMs).
-
It started at 8:00 and they're performing it live...as far as I can tell.
-
They have a couple of different actors since the first time they performed it in July.
-
It's funny with the Szell albums - Columbia relegates him to their subsidiary Epic label, but there are five or six albums on Columbia because they featured Columbia artists. But then, as of disc 71 in this set the remaining albums are all on Columbia - guess they realized just how well he sold and how well thought of he was. So his last Epic album was in 1964.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
They're all good actors, so there's no problem in that respect.
-
Went to the mail place and thankfully all important envelopes were there, so that's one less thing to worry about.
-
If anyone wants to watch it on YouTube, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vuJzBOmOMs
I'm sure it'll stay on YouTube for a while.
-
We watched ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER tonight.
I saw it the first time when it was released in 1946.
In fact, when I wrote my book on Paul Muni, I interviewed Anne Baxter about the film.
-
Ushering tonight. Bruce Campbell is hosting a screening of Evil Dead.
Is that the "dead by dawn!" one? Have fun!
I had never seen the movie before. It is the one you remember, Elmore, and it was a hoot. Disgusting and horrifying and funny.

My friend pug (who wrote The Culling that's streaming on YouTube right now) loves Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead. :)

The movie was less than 90 minutes and Campbell talked for about 1:15 more. He's a great storyteller and really worked the audience into his stories. One woman asked him to marry her fiance and her, because he had one of those "ordained by the Church of Earthly Light" cards. An 8-year-old in the audience, who said he's seen the movie a "trillion times" already got a talking to for being too young. So did his parents.
We had a little less than 400 there. I think it was the highest attended event since the reopening.
-
Important information:
Indeed.
-
I've become a geeky fanboy about this upcoming film version of The Prom. They released the single of my favorite song from the show, Tonight Belongs to Us, and they didn't screw it up. In fact, they did very little to it, except sing it as written.
I never knew Kerry Washington's voice was that good.

Good night, all.
-
I'm up, I'm up - oh, wait...
-
I tried to watch a movie, but fell asleep. Perhaps tomorrow. Otherwise it's been an all Szell evening. It really is the best of these gigantic box sets. Just one great performance after another and, as I've said, he's making me enjoy music I normally don't.

Not long after we moved to Ashland we were surprised to see him on TV promoting a local business. He lived/lives in one of the nearby towns. I wish I had known of an opportunity to hear him speak.
