Well, you've read the notes, the notes had brevity and a dollop of soul, and now it is time for you to post until the brief cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TRICLINIUM!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
I'm sure I've seen some weird movies, but I just can't think of any right now. ::)
-
Today, the family is getting together at my sister's, hence the shopping for her last night. But now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Have a good time.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The a;arm rang at 6:00, and I wasn't in the mood to get out of bed. The cats were unhappy, but I reset the alarm for 7:30 and had to endure Stella's persistence in getting me up for 30 minutes. So, at 6:30 I started moving. I had dreams I no longer remember, and I am 30 minutes off my regular daily morning schedule.
-
Today I continue proofreading band parts, and I have the edit of my New York City Gay Men's Chorus oral history interview to watch and approve.
-
DR JohnG, those senior citizen dog photos are adorable. November is Adopt A Senior Pet month.
-
And the word of the day is: TRICLINIUM!
Cool! I did not know that one.
-
DR John G., those senior citizen dog photos are adorable.
Indeed!
-
I haven't seen any strange movies, but I sure had some strange dreams last night.
-
I wonder if brevity's soul is the thing with feathers?
-
Off to make some pancakes. It's Saturday morning, isn't it?
-
I think Do I Hear a Waltz? merits a re-listen. Interesting to hear bk's take on it after all these years.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished and I spent 20 minutes watching my Oral History interview. I hate watching myself, and it's even worse listening to myself. I wish I'd had the haircut before the taping and that I didn't stammer so much.
As The Fat Orange Slug says, it is what it is.
-
Now I will make the bed and think about breakfast.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I spent a leisurely extra hour in bed this morning. Yay, me!
-
I enjoyed the notes! As usual, I must say. It is sort of like taking a college course in music and learning about stuff you never knew existed.
Of course, that's just me - I am sure many Dear Readers are familiar with ALL of the music MR BK writes about.
-
I have that DEMENTIA on order, Lord only knows when it's getting here.
I did read something on some forum about a scene or two in which a couple of shots were thought to differ from what's on the Kino DVD. Don't know if the person was accurate, or if it made any difference. But I have the DVD, which I think I haven't even watched, so it'll be fun to check all of that out.
-
I guess my answer to the TOD would be Guru, The Mad Monk.
Filmed in New York, set in the 15th century, the traffic noises and motorcycles parked at the curb just add to the ambience.
-
As for single weirdest film...
It sure seems like I ought to have a few titles at my fingertips, but in fact I'll have to think about this.
-
A Blower on the Roof - I think DR LAURA's recent experience would make a great musical.....
Condition.....condition!
-
I suspect most of us had a TRICLINIUM before learning how to ride a two-wheeler.
-
A Blower on the Roof - I think DR LAURA's recent experience would make a great musical.....
Condition.....condition!
;D
-
I was amazed at the size of DR Laura's Thing on the Roof. It looks like something that would cool a 9-story office building.
-
Is a weird film outré?
-
I was amazed at the size of DR Laura's Thing on the Roof.
Indeed. It even has its own platform.
-
Weirdest film? The pathetic Thundercrack: too much porn, too much poor acting, too little sense, involving an old dark house, a circus, a gorilla, and too may horny people acting badly and behaving worse.
-
Page 2 Dance!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning!
-
Hi, DR John G!
-
I like weird. Therefore, I like weird flicks. Or however the saying goes.
Freaks
Terror of Tiny Town
Eraserhead
Pink Flamingos
Repo Man
The Apple
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (or were the last two merely awful?)
I never got to see that William Shatner movie filmed in Esperanto. That is probably weird.
-
Hi, KevinH!
-
I wanted to adopt half of those senior dogs. And I don’t really want a dog.
-
I haven't seen the Sgt. Pepper movie since the night in the summer of 1978 that I was sitting through it at the Plitt (because someone had given me a pass), wondering when was it going to be over.
I would actually now watch it again, just to experience it and see what I think now. These eyes and ears have certainly learned how to take in things they rejected decades ago, so who knows. But probably DR John G. is right and it's just merely awful.
-
Cooking question, DR John G. I love roasted brussels sprouts. Do you think it would work to roast bags of frozen sprouts?
-
Any other DR, feel free to chime in!
-
Hello, DR KevinH!
-
Cooking question, DR John G. I love roasted brussels sprouts. Do you think it would work to roast bags of frozen sprouts?
Sure. Why not? This recipe says do not thaw first.

Today is the church conference. We are doing it by zoom this year, of course.
This should have been our week to visit Disneyland while we would have been in Southern California.
-
They might be better than fresh because you don’t know how old the fresh are.
The best sprouts I’ve ever eaten were harvested that day. The difference is amazing.

I’m sorry you can’t be in Disneyland.
-
Today’s epic is Seven Samurai. I haven’t seen it in ages, but it’s long been a favorite of mine. The Criterion blu-Ray is gorgeous.
-
Well, I expect the next time we go it will be a completely different experience. We'll get to see it through the eyes of a child, when the magic is real.

Beautiful thought.

Good Morning! Last night, I got a LOT of packing done, while the movie of "Flower Drum Song" played in the background. Such a great movie.
Today, I'm taking boxes of music that I packed up last night to my office in the loft of the church which is where I'm keeping all my sheet music. This is remove things from the apartment. Hooray! I might get a run in to the storage unit as well, we'll see how the day goes. But it's more packing etc. I got the NTV (notice to vacate) email from the apartment complex, as well as the guidelines for leaving the apartment. I'm glad I have a few extra days to be in the new place and still be in the old place so I can clean the place up.
Speaking of the new place - looks like I'm finally getting a walk through on Thursday - I've seen pictures etc... And it looks like I'm getting my keys on November 24, which is awesome. If only life can stand still for the next few weeks so I could concentrate on that. Oh well, it will get done!

Thanks very much! :-*

I have a few extra days to be in the new place and still be in the old place so I can clean the place up.
Very nice!
-
Today is a sorting day for us, as well. This week we reduced from two cars to one. The DH is mostly retired, and I am working from home. With the pandemic, we're not going anywhere, so we decided to trade in my car. It's unbelievable how much stuff accumulates in the cars. We're going through and sorting out duplicate equipment and tools and glove box paraphernalia. It's survival of the fittest!
-
We are half way through I Am Greta on Hulu, a documentary about the teenage Swedish environmental activist. Highly recommended.
-
T.O.D.
Sorry, I don't remember the weirdest movie I've ever seen.
These days, I have trouble remembering the movie I watched yesterday.
:(
-
I just finished watching THE MOB (1951) with Broderick Crawford.
Excellent gangster movie. I've seen it many times, including in a theater when it was first released, and it holds up very well.
Great supporting cast: Richard Kiley, Ernest Borgnine, Neville Brand, and (un-billed) John Marley and Charles Bronson.
-
Well, that was interesting.
Lots of old people trying to figure out technology.
Luckily, I have done church on zoom and other meetings on zoom over the last several months. But some people were having a terrible time.
-
It took such a long time to do anything. But luckily that used up the time that they ordinarily have to try to fill.
-
There's still an afternoon session to go, but it will be all reports. All the business items are done.
-

Sounds like me all too often.
-
Books dropped off to the church choir loft. The organization will be for another day. Now, more home organization and perhaps a plan to get to the storage unit to drop off more things. Also, a trip to Target tomorrow to get more supplies will be in order. This is so much easier with a plan -- I still don't plan, don't ask me!
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
-
The only weird thing (other than the movie itself) I saw in Dementia is in the opening pull back to reveal the neon sign and hotel room - it seems to jump and repeat a few frames there, not sure why, unless my eyes deceived me. Otherwise, I saw nothing different.

Tower Records is back (for online orders):

-
I just started the McGlynn "Show Boat" as I work though stuff here at home. That should take me through the afternoon!
-
That should take me through the afternoon!
It surely should!

It is extra disappointing dealing with covid on the days special activities had been planned.

I noticed that about all vegetables when we had our vegetable garden.

Has your daughter in-law been yet? If not, between them it will be doubly magical.

SENDING MOVING VIBES!
-
After getting dropped about 6 times, I gave up. No one is paying me to be there, so at least there's that.
-
She has been to the Disneyland in Tokyo, which I understand is awesome. She wants to see the original, though.
-
This afternoon the cats and I watched the first episode of the series Outlander, which shifts between 1945 and 1743 Scotland. It's like Brigadoon without the songs or humor. I doubt I will continue with it.
-
It is better than the MGM film of Brigadoon, however.
-
Stella and Thatch have been quite frisky today. She was just chasing him through the apartment and leaped onto my back.
-

Keith kept trying to get me to do that when we lived in Ashland and I refused. I did agree to sell my car before we moved here. At times it is a nuisance, or was before covid. Overall I am glad I did it, especially these days.

I feel bad for the people having trouble with it.

I won't ask ;)

And see it through her son's eyes. Next year it will be even more magical for him.
-
I hope one day to be able to go with Freyja.
-
My church is holding an all-member Zoom "order of business" meeting tomorrow (with voting). Should be pretty interesting.
-
I feel bad for those for whom the technology is an obstacle.
-
I was just sorting through all the loose change between the cars. And thinking how rarely it is that I handle hard tender any more.
-
I was just sorting through all the loose change between the cars. And thinking how rarely it is that I handle hard tender any more.
I read that as "between the ears."
-
Touché, DR elmore3003. I most definitely do have loose change between the ears! ;D
-
Is Thatch back to normal, now? No longer regarding you as the devil?
-
Just got the August 2020 issue of Gramophone in the mail - not sure why the delay. I'd already received September and October some time back. In any case, a wonderful article on Bernstein's "Mass," and reviewing the various recordings available. The original still comes out on top.

DR Jane re: Costco
Can you just order the paper towels online and have them deliver it? Here they have free shipping for orders over $75. And only $3 for any one item if you are under that. I did all my Costco orders online from March through the end of the summer.
-
DR ELMORE I love OUTLANDER.
-
It was written on Facebook, that when buying frozen vegetable, buy the ones that rattle in the box/bag and are loose. If they are in a block, that indicates that they have thawed and been refrozen.
-
Page Four.....I am going to Facebook to find DR LAURA's video.

Whenever I try to order online either the item is out or I can only do Instacart. We tried Instacart once and received a substitute for the item we wanted, antibacterial soap instead of hand sanitizer. We won't be doing that again.
-
Oh the video is gone.
-

What a great tip! Thanks, DR Jrand70. Tips from Heloise Jrand70.
-
I just tried ordering the paper towels from Costco. When I clicked on "add to cart" it said......
The item is temporarily unavailable for delivery to ZIP code xxxxx. Inventory frequently changes, please check back later.
-
Up from a nap.
-
Gotta figure out dinner.
-
Is Thatch back to normal, now? No longer regarding you as the devil?
It depends on his day and mood.
-
DR ELMORE I love OUTLANDER.
I am glad to hear it. Maybe I'll give episode two a chance tomorrow.
-
It gets better......Season Three is my favorite.....but Season One sets a lot of things up......

Instacart Shoppers obviously don't know about 1/2 the items they are shopping for. They have no clue how to do substitutions, they should call or text if there there is a question and you should be able to approve the substitutions. I stopped using them as well for that reason.

This was at the beginning of the quarantine period. The Costco website is better now at showing items not in stock. The guy asked about the item at the store and said they told him to substitute soap for sanitizer ::) He asked right away if we wanted it. He actually sent a text which arrived after he had already left the store. We really didn't care about the other items we ordered. They were just filler to have a large enough order. Lesson learned.
I am so glad DR Jeanne found someone who actually texts her while he is shopping.
-
I made it visible to you, JRand.
-
I am so glad DR Jeanne found someone who actually texts her while he is shopping.
So long as he doesn't text while he is driving. ;D
-
;D
-
No mail to pick up.
-
Chinese chicken salad was excellent.
-
Found all the DVDs I was looking for - took some doing, but now I have them along with quite a few others.
-
Listening to the first two William Alwyn string quartets - not usually a fan of chamber music but these are very good.
-
I am watching a Merchant Ivory film I've never seen before called Le Divorce. Modern day story with Naomi Watts and Kate Hudson. Huge cast. It's fairly charming, but no great shakes.
-
I've never heard of that one, DR John G. Thanks for sharing.
-
George & TCB did you see our governor will be making an announcement tomorrow regarding new bans?
-
DR John I believe you mentioned "Midnight Library". I searched to confirm it was you and nothing came up. I am now reading it.
-
To the Manor Born has returned to the airwaves! Now available on BritBox.
-
DR John I believe you mentioned "Midnight Library". I searched to confirm it was you and nothing came up. I am now reading it.
Are you liking it? I have it on reserve. It should come in within the week.
-
I'm now listening to The Girl With the Louding Voice. It's pretty good.
-
I am finished for the evening.
-
Tomorrow is prep day. Oh, what fun.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Five!
-
Good night, all.
-
Ninety minutes without a post???
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
You'd think it was a Saturday night or something.
-
Tomorrow is prep day. Oh, what fun.
Good luck.
-

I am liking it. It is different than I expected, in a good way.
-
Good evening, nobody!
-
Hi Tom. How are you feeling?
-
I was just sorting through all the loose change between the cars. And thinking how rarely it is that I handle hard tender any more.
You said, hard tender!
-
The weirdest movie I have ever seen was THE DRAUGHTSMAN’S CONTRACT. Now I don’t really know if it is that weird, or if I am just a totally unschooled film watcher. Lots of implied sex, some living statues (always my favorite), and lots and lots of pretentious dialogue.
-
The other couple we were with (both British) thought the film was glorious. The fellow actress and I thought it was just plain weird. Oh, yeah, there was some violence thrown in at the end of the film. Unfortunately, no one killed the filmmakers.
-
It was written on Facebook, that when buying frozen vegetable, buy the ones that rattle in the box/bag and are loose. If they are in a block, that indicates that they have thawed and been refrozen.
I never knew that.

Yes, indeed. 11:00 am. I’ll bet Trudy won’t be there.

I have no idea. I can't remember if it was an option back then.
-
'night. I think I am falling asleep.
-
Good night, Jane.
-
Where in tarnation is George?
-
John, are you still awake?
-
I was just 17 when I saw The Draughtsman’s Contract. Don’t remember much except Janet Sussman, sex and costumes. It was weird. It was a Peter Greenaway film. I liked it.
-
Where in tarnation is George?
At his mother’s no, his sister’s house.
-
Back to sleep.
-
Back to sleep.
Good night, John G.
-
Where in tarnation is George?
At his mother’s no, his sister’s house.
Or watching a rerun of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.
-
Tomorrow I have a doctor’s appointment at 11:30.
-
So, I will probably miss the Governor’s big announcement.
-
I just hope I am home for the game at 1:20 pm.
-
I guess I need to go to bed.
-
Good night, BK.
