Well, you've read the notes, the notes were stuffed, and now it is time for you to post until the stuffed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BOUNTEOUS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.

And NOW - Dino at the piano.

-
And now, I'm off to bed, after I watch a couple of videos on Facebook.
Have a great day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well for much of the night. Thatch visited me twice, and when she got cold up in her bookcase hideout, Annabelle came down and snuggled with me. I had a lot of strange dreams I no longer remember, and when the alarm rang, the Candide song "Bon Voyage" was running through my head at a rather hectic pace.
-
BK, I'm sorry that your Gelson trip wasn't successful.
-
DR vixmom, I love you job, too! After that last crap place, I am so happy for you.
-
DR JohnG, I'm glad your soireenwas a happy success.
My mother had words of advice for every occasion:
Keep your cell phone in your pocket or leave it home next time.
Never take candy from strangers; get real estate.
Kids in comas cause no problems.
-
A happy Thanksgiving to all and sun-dried.
-
As bk might say.
-
And he does.
-
On offer here today:
Roast chicken
Corn bread stuffing
Gravy
Mashed potatoes
Baked sweet potatoes
Corn
Broccoli
Roasted brussels sprouts and root vegetables with balsamic and bacon
Cranberry sauce
Corn muffins
Apple and Strawberry Rhubarb pies
I guess that's enough for 2 people.
-
bk, I hope you will share your ideal Mahler list with us once completed.
-
I need to call Cafe 82 and order my Thanksgiving dinner this morning. Seamless, which is NYC's Grubhub, issues emails hourly, but curiously they mentioned nothing about which of "their" restaurants were delivering Thanksgiving dinners. I suspect it's too late now to contact Good Enough to Eat.

Good Enough to Eat is closed today.

A few friends have mentioned the Charles Laughton "Chartres Cathedral" memory/story which is played on National Public Radio every year at Thanksgiving. I was astonished that I had never even heard of this, but my friends say that listening to it on Thanksgiving every year is a cherished tradition of theirs. I haven't listened to it, yet, but if you want to, here is a link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWhH7Mbb85w (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWhH7Mbb85w)
I do remember another cherished NPR tradition, which is "Mama" Stamberg's shockingly pink cranberry relish (with horseradish):
https://www.npr.org/2006/11/23/4176014/mama-stambergs-cranberry-relish-recipe (https://www.npr.org/2006/11/23/4176014/mama-stambergs-cranberry-relish-recipe)

DR elmore3003, that menu from "Good Enough to Eat" looks great.
-
I called Cafe 82 and they suggested I call closer to my desired delivery time.

.
-
Well, the cretins appointed by Tramp to the Supreme Court are doing their damnedest to keep churches open, the super-spreaders running, and the death toll going up. I hope the virus gets them.
-
It is confounding. The "religious freedom" zealots will literally be the death of us.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished. I'm eating a slice of Pepperidge Farm cinnamon raisin bread and pondering breakfast.
-
Yesterday, Chewy.com delivered a lot of Fancy Feast for my babies, and I need to drag out the Big Ladder and put it away. I think I will postpone that to tomorrow.
-
I just successfully ordered Thanksgiving dinner to be delivered at 4:00. I will probably do the same for Christmas.
-
Huzzah!
-
Moving on...
-
Good morning, all.
-
To Two (2).
-
If my counting is correct.
-
Yesterday afternoon I enjoyed seeing Marnie (the opera) again.
Then late last night I turned TCM on to watch a little and fall asleep to, and what do I find about to start but Marnie -- Hitchcock style.
It was fun seeing a few images and hearing the first bits of Herrmann's score, but I didn't last through much of it. I was out like a light.
-
If I'm not mistaken, they were running a bunch of Hitchcock films through the night and possibly through this morning.
-
But enough of my TCM adventures! I need to go downstairs and prepare to watch a parade. I'll be back later at some point. In the meantime...
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
-
Good morning.
-
Since our Thanksgiving is canceled this year, I slept in and am pretty much relaxing today. I will pick up my daughter for our annual Thanksgiving Day Drive, during which we drive aimlessly (usually while the turkey cooks). It is her favorite Thanksgiving tradition.
-
Then we will stop by the ramada we reserved and visit with Wae-Ling there and hear how her turkey adventure went. She cooked it yesterday.
-
It was too late to cancel the ramada. Wish we had learned earlier that Son has to work today.
-
As far as dinner -- we decided to see what is open whilst on our drive. It might end up being Taco Bell.
-
A friend of mine tried this recipe this morning:
Snowflake pull-apart monkey bread:

So, I'm giving up my Thanksgiving this year in hopes of helping to slow down this pandemic. And this is happening in my town this weekend.

In fact, a lot of us have given up normal life in hopes of slowing down this pandemic.
-
AntennaTV is having a Partridge Family marathon today. MR BK hasn't shown up yet - but I am sure he is on tap.
-
Here is the schedule:
https://antennatv.tv/interactive-schedule/
It seems that The Last of Howard is on Friday at 2 p.m. EST.
-
DR CHAS SMITH I think Marnie was part of the TCM Salute to Sean Connery that is continuing today.
-
Right you are, DR Jrand70. The Hitchcock films are tonight and tomorrow.
-
I did catch part of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, a guilty and sentimental pleasure, last night.
-
Good morning, all. Happy Thanksgiving!
-
I am going to be making this a little later: Pheasant au vin. https://www.foodnetwork.ca/recipe/pheasant-au-vin/13315/
-
Starting the day off with The Photograph. It's far from perfect, but I am really enjoying it.
-
I may try watching the Hamlet opera later.
-
the Hamlet opera
To B (flat) or not to B (flat).
-
We are watching Hillbilly Elegy on Netflix. Amy Adams and Glenn Close are amazing.

There's no groaning at HHW. But, seriously, I'm groaning.

The cats and I lay down to watch the parade, and when I woke it was over and football was on.

That's pretty.

DR JANE I was looking for the title of MR BK's cd JEEPERS CREEPERS.....which I couldn't remember, so I GoGo'd Susan's name and CD......
I was wondering if that was the C. D. That worked and I found the info. I also find it a bit annoying he sent her to Israel to be buried yet he stayed here.

Hello, everyone.
-
Happy Thanksgiving!
-
My meals today will be simple. I will just reheat some of Julie's great take-out that I picked up yesterday. I am grateful for Julie and her staff for providing great-tasting vegan meals.
Minestrone soup
Fettuccine alfredo
I also have some apple pie for dessert. (Trader Joe's)
-
I am also thankful for the many chefs who think outside the box to come up with really tasty vegan alternatives and also the talented bakers who make gluten-free breads and crackers. Those of us with allergies are far better off with these healthy alternatives.
-
BBL. TTFN.
-
I'm up, I'm up - around eight-and-a-half hours of sleep, maybe a bit more and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
-
Well, right in the middle of writing a post - the power goes out - for literally one second, which is long enough to shut the computer down, but not anything else. Of course that takes forever to boot back up when it shuts down like that.
-
Then had to retrieve all my working documents.
-
As I was typing: Paty's Coffee Shop to the rescue. I got a 40% off coupon from Postmates in an e-mail this morning and only restaurants that are open were listed - lots of fast food jernts, of course - but there was Paty's, a favorite, and voila, they were serving a complete Thanksgiving dinner. So, I ordered and it will be here in forty minutes - turkey, stuffing, a yam, a little dinner salad, cranberries, and a slice of pumpkin pie. So, a Thanksgiving dinner after all.

Great news, BK! My dinner just arrived: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts, salad, and cranberry sauce. It's quite good.
-
Congratulations on the Turkey Day meals, BK and Elmore.
-
The pheasant is marinating. It’ll be a few more hours before I can begin to cook.
-
So, I had some leftover chess pie.
-
Food should be here in just a few minutes. Whether it is warm or not is unknown at this time.

A Prom preview.

Watching a movie called Girlfriends, which I never saw when it came out in 1978. I'm not sure the script is great, but the casting and the performances are. the very funky cast includes Melanie Mayron, Christopher Guest, Bob Balaban (with hair), Eli Wallach, Kenneth MacMillan and a wonderful Amy Wright, whom I don't think I've seen outside of Robert Altman's A Wedding.

Isn't Amy Wright also in Lanford Wlson's wonderful The Fifth of July?

She might have been, but it's been ages. I barely remember Richard Thomas was in it.
-
Yes DR CHAS SMITH I may watch....or rather re-watch.....those Hitchcocks tonight.
-
That is strange DR JANE - but who knows?
-
My sister Paula and her husband had Thanksgiving dinner from Bob Evans - and she brought me a nice plate.
It is now in the fridge......I will have it tomorrow......since when she texted me I had just finished eating a bowl of tacos.....
But I was NOT going to turn it down.

It sounds delicious. Were you able to get one slice of pie or did you buy a whole pie?

Yum, I think as I have never tried it.
-
The pheasant is finally in the oven. It must braise for 2 hours.
-

It's a custard pie. In a way, it's kinda like buttermilk pie only without the buttermilk.

I love traditional English custard pie. I expect this is somewhat different. I also suspect I would like it.
-
Turkey dinner was really excellent, especially the yams and stuffing. Guessing they ran out of pumpkin pie so I got a small slice of cherry pie, which was very good.
-
So, I had some leftover chess pie.
An excellent plan.
-
I am very happy that bk and DR elmore3003 could celebrate in the customary way.
-
I myself am quite overfull. My own fault, of course.
-
But I have 3 days to recover.
-
Thank you, DR Elmore, for the lovely e-card.
-
I am very glad to hear that both DR Elmore and BK ended up with fine traditional T-Day dinners. Ours was immensely satisfying, and I, too, am now immense.
-
The pheasant is still braising.
-
Happy New Year, everyone!
-
Needing veggies we decided to go to Safeway after a walk in the cemetery. To our surprise the Safeway lot was rather full when we parked, and not any better when we returned after our walk. We have also never seen as many walkers, etc. in the cemetery as we did today.
-
As usual we mostly split up at the market to speed the process along. When they guy in front of us at the checkout counter turned to face us we could see his mask was below his nose. Not a good start. Then he opened his coat to proudly show us the t-shirt he was wearing. Keith had to explain the shirt was not about abusing a cat but some Trump crude comment.
-
Then he proceeded to tell the checker he was only wearing a mask because the government made us wear mask.
-
Needless to say, once home we were extra careful to wipe all our groceries down well.
-
Happy New Year, everyone!
;D
-
Well, as of today, SECOND SAMUEL is in third place for Best Production of a Play of The Decade!!
-
Good luck it wins.
-
About a mile up the highway from my place, there is a major intersection of 176th and Meridian. When I lived out here twenty years ago, 176th was basically the end of civilization. Yesterday, at the height of Thanksgiving Eve, there was a whole mob of people out there waving flags and banners for Donald Trump, and Stop the Count placards.
-
I think someone should have told these people that in Washington State, Biden got over 58% of the vote.
-
I, too, have been thinking how pleased I am that BK and Elmore were able to have a traditional turkey dinner.
-
Happy New Year to you, TCB!
-
Congrats to TCB on the SECOND SAMUEL nomination.
-
Or is this a done deal?
-
The pheasant was pleasant, but the mushrooms and gravy were groovy.
-
Happy New Year, everyone!
??
A bit early?
-
I snoozed and missed Hamlet. Watching Elektra instead. The Strauss (with an R) music is gorgeous.
-
One more ...
-
Five!
-
Where does one purchase a pheasant? Surely not at the local Safeway. I thought it was something prepared by cooks in stately homes in the UK, shot by the gamekeeper or lord of the manor.
-
I think someone should have told these people that in Washington State, Biden got over 58% of the vote.
But were they legal ballots?
-
Like BK, I am very tired of this.
-
Jane, I purchased an entire pie via Jason. I've always liked Trader Joe's apple pies, but the last few years didn't see any. I purchased from Ralph's instead, but they were never very good. I was pleased that TJ's had apple pie this year and that Jason was able to grab one. It freezes well. I've never been a fan of pumpkin pie, though I do like pumpkin soup.

I hope they were at least wearing masks.

One Thanksgiving I cooked what I like best -- Indian food -- then a friend and I went to the movies and saw AMADEUS. That was my most unusual Thanksgiving.

If it freezes well. When we lived in Ashland there was a pie company that was pretty good. At one of the local markets they sold individual mini pies, about the size of one slice.
-
I've been watching THE GOOD FIGHT. That show is always interesting and never drags.
-
I really only like apple pie if it is my mother's Danish apple pie recipe. I won't be making a whole pie just for us.

That would be nice. I have seen single slices in some stores and half a pie at Whole Foods.
-
I usually only eat pie at the holidays. Tradition, you know.
-
We should all be rather sleepy now, yes?
-
TTFN.
-
We had our main meal at mid-day. Tonight was a very light supper, and neither of us had room for dessert.
-
Good evening.
-
We had a most memorable Thanksgiving.
-
We went for our drive, then stopped at the ramada at the park that we had reserved for our family dinner. My son had to work today and it was too late to cancel the ramada, so we just met Wae-Ling there for a nice long visit.
-
She reported that her turkey turned out pretty well. Her father, however, refused to eat it, since he only eats meat that is prepared off-site and brought into the house.
-
I have no idea what that is about.
-
I mean, a single father has a teenage daughter who can cook, and he refuses to eat?
-
Whatever.
-
She was going to serve her turkey tonight when her grandmother is there. I hope Grandmother praises her.
-
Daughter and I couldn't find anyplace open. Not the burrito place, nor two pizza places. Not even Taco Bell.
-
So we came home and fixed spaghetti. I added olives and green peppers to my sauce, and she added olives to hers.
-
Leonard was happy to see her.
-
My, that was quite a report, wasn't it?
-
Jeanne, I got the pheasant at the grocery around the corner. It was their specialty meat for the holiday. I had never seen it there before. In the freezer section next to the turkeys.
-
The bass singing Orestes in this Elektra is superb.
-
A few friends have mentioned the Charles Laughton "Chartres Cathedral" memory/story which is played on National Public Radio every year at Thanksgiving. I was astonished that I had never even heard of this, but my friends say that listening to it on Thanksgiving every year is a cherished tradition of theirs. I haven't listened to it, yet, but if you want to, here is a link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWhH7Mbb85w (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWhH7Mbb85w)
I do remember another cherished NPR tradition, which is "Mama" Stamberg's shockingly pink cranberry relish (with horseradish):
https://www.npr.org/2006/11/23/4176014/mama-stambergs-cranberry-relish-recipe (https://www.npr.org/2006/11/23/4176014/mama-stambergs-cranberry-relish-recipe)
A local radio station here has had an annual tradition for decades of playing Alice’s art restaurant in full every Thanksgiving Day.
Not as high flaluting as NPR’s offering I grant you, but I like it
-
I am going to be making this a little later: Pheasant au vin. https://www.foodnetwork.ca/recipe/pheasant-au-vin/13315/
Wow fancy
-
Well, the opera is over and it was, pardon the pun, electrifying. But it didn't do my dishes.
-
Finished with my viewing and listening to music again. I ate the little bit of ham I got from Gelson's yesterday (about three ounces) and had a slice of that pumpkin chocolate chip loaf, and now I'm feeling like I really overate - no bread, though, so that's a plus, I think. And the dinner thing wasn't that huge, frankly.
-
Just watched some clips from the Richard Jones Met production of Hansel and Gretel - and HATED his "vision." HATED it.
-
The turkey turned out beautifully (if I do say so myself)
-
The brine had orange and rosemary in it
-
I rubbed in inside and out the turkey with Penzey’s Revolution spice mix which is :Flake salt, Tellicherry black pepper, cane sugar, turmeric, minced orange peel and coriander
-
Then I stuffed the turkey fore and aft with quartered lemons and oranges
-
And for good measure I rubbed the skin with some orange peel and lemon peel
-
Roasted the turkey with some organic chicken broth in the roasting pan
-
And I roasted the potatoes (a mixture of purple, red and “regular” new potatoes) in the pan along with the turkey
-
Would definitely make it this way again
-
I am glad that Elmore and BK were able to have their turkey dinners delivered
-
We had a lovely hour long video call with The Vixter and Vixhubby
-
They took my mom on a tour of their apartment

Through the magic of the internet

Good night, all.

Good night, all.
Good night, John

She reported that her turkey turned out pretty well. Her father, however, refused to eat it, since he only eats meat that is prepared off-site and brought into the house.
:o
-
I mean, a single father has a teenage daughter who can cook, and he refuses to eat?
I feel bad for her. Did her sister eat any or has she moved out of the house?
-
She was going to serve her turkey tonight when her grandmother is there. I hope Grandmother praises her.
Oh good. I do hope so.
-
My, that was quite a report, wasn't it?
From you, yes ;)
-
Leonard was happy to see her.
Awww.

I think someone should have told these people that in Washington State, Biden got over 58% of the vote.
But were they legal ballots?
In Washington, if they were Democrat, they were legal. I am just surprised the percentage wasn’t higher.

I hope they were at least wearing masks.
Uh, no.

AntennaTV is having a Partridge Family marathon today. MR BK hasn't shown up yet - but I am sure he is on tap.
I thought Jack wrote Pepperidge Farm, and I wondered why BK was involved, or even interested.
-
I have no idea what that is about.
Isn’t he Jewish?
-
The bass singing Orestes in this Elektra is superb.
I will wait until I get up tomorrow to watch it, because morning becomes Electra.
-
I have no idea what that is about.
Isn’t he Jewish?
What does that have to do with this odd behavior?

That's great, Singdaw!
-
Hi, Tom and Jane!
-
How were your Thanksgiving days?
-
I went to my mom's and my sister and her daughter and her boyfriend were there, as well as my mom's friend Sonia, with whom she used to work.
-
We all had different things, but my mom did make a turkey...I'm not a fan, so I didn't partake of that.
-
Then, we had a pumpkin cream pie that was good, but very sweet.
-
Then, I came home and my friend David called.
-
We chatted for just over two hours about many things.
-
While we were talking, I was cutting commercials out of a Hallmark TV movie for my niece that I had recorded to my computer. I goobered and now I have to rerecord the whole thing to my computer again. ::)
-
I hate it when that happens. :P
-
But first, I have a lot of posts to ketchup on, so I shall. :)
-
I have no idea what that is about.
Isn’t he Jewish?
What does that have to do with this odd behavior?
I thought perhaps the turkey did not have kosher certification.
-
Well, the cretins appointed by Tramp to the Supreme Court are doing their damnedest to keep churches open, the super-spreaders running, and the death toll going up. I hope the virus gets them.
That's not all they're doing: Indiana Asks the Supreme Court to Let It Strip Rights From Same-Sex Parents (https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/11/box-henderson-indiana-marriage-equality-supreme-court.html).
The justices have shown interest in a case that could begin the rollback of marriage equality.

-
Hi. I fell asleep for a few minutes.
-
I have no idea what that is about.
Isn’t he Jewish?
What does that have to do with this odd behavior?
I thought perhaps the turkey did not have kosher certification.
I figured there was some reason I was missing ;D

This is good.

That's pretty cool, BK!
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
George, you didn’t capture my 88888 post?
-
Good night.
-
Turkey dinner was really excellent, especially the yams and stuffing. Guessing they ran out of pumpkin pie so I got a small slice of cherry pie, which was very good.
Nice!

Something must've happened down here too. This just reminded me that when I was driving home tonight on I-5, a car had been pulled over by a cop and there was a big Trump flag sticking out of one of the windows! I don't know if they had been speeding or if the flag was a safety issue, but I just laughed as I drove by! :D

8 ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I think someone should have told these people that in Washington State, Biden got over 58% of the vote.
There's a local business here in Tumwater that still has a "Loren Culp for Governor" sign out in front! :o

Not as high flaluting as NPR’s offering I grant you, but I like it
The community radio station out of The Evergreen State College used to have a comedy show on Saturdays, and they would play the entire "Alice's Restaurant" every year, too!
