Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a new age, and now it is time for you to post until the new age cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LUCRATIVE!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUCE!
-
MAY YOUR DAY BE EXTRA SPECIAL!
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Our Very Own BK!! :D
-
I hope you have 🎂
-
And that's a very nice picture of Baby BK!!
-
And fun 🎁
-
My favorite birthday, or the one I remember most, was 1996. I had flown to New York the day before, so I spent the day roaming around and that evening I went to see A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THEWAY TO THE FORUM featuring Nathan Lane. And the next day I flew to Boston, boarded a ship and sailed out to the grave site of the Titanic.
-
A favorite memory is finding HHW, surprising you by posting, and introducing you to Susan.
-
Tom, that sounds like a great birthday.
-
Happy Birthday to BK,
the founder of our feast.
-
Great for TCB, not necessarily for me ;)

It was very memorable. I have told this story before. After the show I went around to the stage door. The show was at the St James, which has a nice big cattle area around the stage door, so there was quite a few people waiting. This guy came out and said that if we wanted to wait for Mr. Lane that was fine, but we needed to clear out the center area for the others to get out, so we needed to back up against the wall.
About twenty minutes later, the same man came out and announced that Nathan was too tired that evening, so he had already left by the other exit. He had filmed the David Letterman show before the performance, so he was exhausted. So we were all still standing around when Mark Linn-Baker came out the stage door. Poor guy has to come out and face a bunch of people who had just been told that “the star” had skipped out. But he was a real sweetheart. He and his wife went down the entire line of people and stopped and talked to every single person. I was near the end of the line, but he was still very gracious. He introduced me to his wife, he chatted about the show, asked about why I was in NYC, and when I mentioned it was my birthday, he wrote a very nice message on my program.
-
That's a very nice story, Tom. :)
-
It is a lovely story and worth repeating.
-
Good morning, all!
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A Very Happy Birthday to BK, our Host with the Most !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I was very much under the weather last night, so I plan on staying close to my bed today.
-
DR JohnG, I'm sorry to hear about your friend Mickey.

DR Jeanne, it's been so long since I've heard anyone talk about Kathleen Battle, so I know I'm missing some accurate details, but here are a few I heard when she was considered the craziest diva at the Met:
She was singing Mendelssohn's music for A Midsummer Night's Dream with, I believe, Fredfrica von Stade, at the Boston Symphony, and the orchestra was forbidden to look at her during rehearsal.
She was in a limousine, and she wanted the driver to either turn up or down the AC, so she called her agent at Columbia Artists so he could call the limousine company to tell the driver to take care of the AC.
-
bk - wishing you all the best on your special day!
-
Don't ask me what all those doodads are. Spatulas?
-
Misshapen Camry logos?
-
Egg beaters?
-
On my "essentials" run this morning, there were no Kleenex™. But plenty of paper towels. Go figure.
-
On that utterly exciting note,
-
Let us turn the page.
-
To TWO. 2.
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
Love bk's framed photo.
-
Good morning to all
-
Happy birthday to you. Stay safe and healthy
-
TOD:
I am very grateful to bk for providing this forum. I just love the everyday interaction and banter and support.
I suppose highlights have been the Oscar and Tony parties. I also loved when former DR edisaurus put together a birthday tribute video to bk several years back with words and images of appreciation. And the NYC gatherings.
There's a lot to remember and be grateful for!
-
Hope you feel better pronto, DR elmore3003.
-
DR John G. - are you traveling today? If so, ~~~MEGA SAFE TRAVEL VIBES~~~

Forty years ago today John Lennon was assassinated. He was my favorite Beatle.

Good morning!

Happy Birthday to BK!
-
Love the photo, BK!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Great photo and birthday reminiscences in the notes. Although...and it could just be me, but...doesn't BK look a bit over 7.3 lbs in that pic? Oh well, what do I know about birthin' babies.
And lest I forget --
This is that joyous time of year when I get to say that BK, for one blessed week, is three years older than me. :D
-
A big wonderful HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, sir!
-
Happiest of happy birthdays to MR BK! And many happy returns of the day!
-
I enjoy every day here at HHW......but I guess my favorite was when MR BK found an archived version of my Allison Hayes blog and I was able to keep it on the internet!
-
That was SOME birthday DR VIXMOM.
That was SOME birthday DR TCB!
-
I was going to change my socks today, but I can't find the instruction booklet that came with them......
-
Nice photo in the notes.
-
Favorite memories of haineshisway.com will have to be summed up by just getting on here in the first place and immediately feeling right at home, and meeting BK and a bunch of you a few months later and immediately feeling even more at home. The timing of it was somehow perfect, as I'd gotten to know y'all to some extent over those few months, but actually getting together and finding out y'all were even better than what I knew online was the cream cheese frosting on the cake.
-
Travel vibes for DR JOHN G & JB.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BRUCE!
-
Tuesday morning greetings! It's cold and dreary here in SW Ohio today, but wrapping presents will brighten things up, I'm sure.
-
Happy, happy birthday, BK!!!
-
Happy Birthday BK!!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy birthday, Bruce! And many more!
-
I am up after close to 11 hours of sleep. I had wanted to leave today, but the plumbing problem made that foolhardy.
-
So, I will leave manana, if manana ever comes.
-
Three!
-
Got a text about my friend Mickey. Doesn’t sound like she’s showing any covid symptoms despite the test results.
-
I would be remiss if I also didn't add that reading MR BK's thoughts and movies, books, and cds is also worth the price of admission here at HHW.
And all of the great DRs here make this a very special place in the inner webs.
-
I made my morning trip to the lobby for yesterday's mail, and Lolita My Love was waiting for me.
-
I have started packing, but it seems like the list of stuff is endless and I can't do a lot of it until just before leaving. Things like my sleep machine and some of the frozen or refrigerated food I'm taking. (Yes, I bought tamales because, well, the sound of Louisville tamales for Christmas is rather depressing.)
-
I think all of you are the reason I love HHW the most.
-
I've been listening to A Promised Land, and Obama goes out of his way to talk about the transition of power from Bush in the nicest way possible. They were politically different but respectful of each other. It's too bad that Trump can't behave in a similarly civil way.
But then again, he's Trump. No one expects him to behave like anything but the petulant spoiled brat that he is.
-
Hello, 0 guests.

Today's Carol variation is An American Christmas Carol with Henry Winkler. The teleplay is by Jerome Coopersmith, who wrote Baker Street and The Apple Tree.
-
Happy Birthday, BK! Enjoy your day!!

Good Morning - back at work, same stuff, different day. Eye seems better, thank goodness it wasn't pink eye.
-
Good news, DR Matthew!

Good morning.

The mail was delivered today even though I had stopped it. And that, Lolita is in my hands.
-
What are you going to treat yourself with, BK?
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep and then lots of e-mails to respond to, most of 'em fun birthday wishes - my favorite so far is from Rupert Holmes, which I'll share later.
-
Thanks for all the birthday cheer.
-
Neither of the two expected packages has arrived yet - normally, the few packages that come here get here early. Since one of them contains today's meal, I hope that's soon. Of course, I could do something else for food if it gets too late.
-
Happy Birthday BK!

Condolences to DR TCB! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Guess I'll mosey on over to the mail place - definitely a package there.

It wasn't very nice of Sally Durant Plumber to disrupt DR John G.'s holiday travel plans.

I think Sally Durant Plumber is "direct from Teaneck" rather than "direct from Phoenix."

She should have worn green.
When I first heard the score on the dinky radio, it sounded like "I should have Lorne Greene." I figured Buddy and Sally were characters from The Dick Van Dyke Show, why wouldn't she want to have the star of Bonanza?

Back from picking up a package. Food package arrived a few minutes ago and I'm now eating my birthday pepperoni pizza from Regina's in Boston. Excellent.

Glad it worked out, bk.

Thank you, DR Donald!

DR Freddie, you are funny! :)

I think Lorne Green and William Shatner should record a duets album.

Here's Rupert's e-mail, which kind of made this day even better than it already was:
... and the flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true.
As from my terrace overlooking the Hudson (that's a river, we have them on the east coast) I watch the Annual Kimmler's Day Parade with The Mummers-like band playing a medley of "I Love Fish" and "I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy Haines," my thoughts all stray to you, as they well might seeing as there is a giant balloon of you being held down to Earth by Susan Dey, Lynda Day (George), Laraine Day, and Doris Kappelhoff because it's Bru-Babe's Birth Day. And it is held down to Earth because you're a down-to-Earth Guy, and that brings us back to Mister Haines. So thinking of you today, Bruce, and wishing you a splendid December 8th even amidst a fucking plague. If everyone would have just stayed inside alone and listened to every CD you've made possible, this never would have happened. Just goes to show that you knew what you were doing. And that makes me even prouder to know you and to be you.
Much love and gratitude today and every day for your incredible artistry in the many, many forms it takes,
Rupert

Hello, everyone.

I made some chicken pasta salad which will last the rest of the week......
Continued Project Two vibes for MR BK, the birthday lad.

Great email.

I'm celebrating BK's birthday by watching A Carol Christmas. I'm enjoying it much more a second time than I did the first, and I loved it the first time.
-
WHAT?? Today's is Bruce's birthday??!! No, it can't be! I don't know how I missed that. ;)
Happy Birthday, Bruce!
I hope you enjoyed your Bostonian pizza

I went out today for some Italian take-out. The little enclave of restaurants and stores was dead. Very few people out. When parking is easy you know there's something wrong. The restaurant I sought was open, though, with only a few others picking up their take-out. It may be necessary, but it's devastating.

I am celebrating BK's birthday by eating (get ready for it):
Three (3) hot dogs with chili, cheese and onions. Made by my very own self. And they are DELICIOUS.
Ingredients: Nathan's skinless hot dogs, just grilled in a skillet. Hormel chili, grated sharp cheddar, diced Vidalia onion, on Martin's potato roll buns because they hold together better than the cheap ones that practically disintegrate under this mixture. (I could compare because there was one left here which I ate first.)
I've made plenty of hot dogs in my illustrious career, but never chili ones at home. That's why I deliberately asked BK which chili he uses, because I'd have no idea what works. The Hormel's is fine. The only way it could be better is if Nathan's happens to sell their own brand which is perfection. Have to check on that. And a standard grated American cheese is probably a bit more appropriate. Well, there's plenty of time to perfect this, but if I never changed a thing, these are fantastic.
Thanks, and another damned happy birthday to ye, sir!

Great email from Rupert, BK!

I've thought about grilling hot dogs in the skillet - how do you do it, and more importantly, how do you know when it's fully cooked.
-
Wonderful birthday message from Mr. Holmes!
-
Listened to Strauss's Elektra, which wasn't as instantly likable as Salome. Orchestrations are lovely, of course, but it seems like it's almost all recitative with no real big tunes - but I'll listen again. Cast is great - Nilsson and Resnick star, and while Solti is one of my least favorite conductors of orchestral music, he seems much more at home in opera. This is on Decca and sounds great.
-
I just put these in a small frying pan and cooked without water or anything over medium heat. Every few minutes I turned them and enjoyed how they gradually got a little blistered on the outside like in the hot dog rotisserie at a movie theater. It's fully cooked whenever you think you're ready to eat it. :) I like mine pretty well done.
-
In the summer I generally go outside and grill them, literally, on the grill, till they have a nice char and some serious blistering going on.
I think next for indoors I'll try steaming them, something else I don't believe I've done at home.
-
Think I'll try that later this week.
-
Just heard another lovely orchestration for project one.
-
Guess I'll watch something now.
-

Day has been nice and relaxing. Bought two little bite-sized cake things at Gelson's - ate the first one a couple of hours ago - strawberry shortcake, and am eating the coconut slice now - put a candle in it, made a wish, blew out the candle, so hopefully the wish will come true.
-
I then watched another production of Hansel and Gretel - the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden 2008. If I thought the Peter Jones abomination was an abomination I honestly am at a loss for words with what I just watched, but I'll save it for the notes.

I really wanted a slice of cake or a cupcake yesterday. I am glad you had treats today.
-
My original plan had been to take a long walk and get a treat from Savona's. After 2 long birthday calls it was getting late, plus I really wasn't up to it.

Good thing we didn't take the longer walk as Craig called right after we returned home.

I have sips many good memories because of HHW.
The NYC meetups, the friendships

I've spent quite a bit of time "liking" the over 700 birthday posts - they were split this year between regular posts and people posting on the baby picture.

Listening to Elektra for the second time.

I bless you all forever for that

Good night

But we are on page seven, so not that far away :)

For example, if I made another ninety posts we'd be there for sure.

But I also have to write some notes, do I not? I do. And I'm thinking that after I post the notes, I'll do another hour of work on project two.
