Title: A CHRISTMAS LINE

Well, you've read the notes, the notes dropped everyone a Christmas line, and now it is time for you to post until the Christmas cows come home.

My present to myself was the Glenn Gould: Complete Bach Goldberg Variations recording session, which includes every scrap of music recorded over the 4-day session. The massive accompanying book includes the complete score to follow along with, amongst other things.

One of the things I'm looking forward to watching is the Blu Ray of the Glyndebourne production of Samuel Barber's opera Vanessa.

It's raining outside and the temperature is 54 degrees F! It was so warm in the apartment that I slept under a sheet, and I slept quite poorly.  When the alarm rang at 5:50, I went back to bed, hoping to sleep for another hour, but it was no use.

Merry Christmas!

My niece Jadyn called at 7:45am to tell me about her Xmas gifts.

The weather here today is supposed to very mild. It snowed a few days ago. But it has rained all night and is supposed to rain all day. So it has all melted (which i don't mind at all). I think that right now it is 54F. Is that crazy.

We are still below zero here, but it is supposed to warm up to a high of 19 today.

T.O.D.

Last night we recorded BEYOND TOMORROW, which I haven't seen in 40+ years.

Charles Winninger (the original "Capt'n Andy" in SHOWBOAT) was in it.

I knew him when he came to Seattle in the 1950s to do a play (LIGHTNIN') at the Cirque Playhouse.

He was a nice man, but he didn't get along well with Gene Keane who owned the theater.

Keane did not treat him well.

Good Morning -  I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Eve and a will have a lovely Christmas Day.... however it is you spend it.  Last night, Christmas Eve services (2 outdoors, 1 live-streamed indoors) were fine and lacked holiday magic.  But what are you going to do?   I came home and had my lovely home-cooked prime rib dinner for 1, which was yummy and watched "Meet Me In St. Louis" with the boys.

Today, I have one live-streamed service and I'm done.  A brief stop at the family residence and then off to a friends for the rest of the day.  Sabrina and her husband Alan and I have been in each others "bubble" since May.  It's nice to have a few friends like that.  We'll have a lovely dinner and watch movies and such.

This day will pass, tomorrow is another day and Christmas will be behind us.  2021 will be a year of hope most definitely.

Merry Christmas

Happily, the motor car started right up and I took a nice drive - the Havertys said they had way too much food, so I guess today I'll polish off the rest of the tuna pasta salad, but that's a good thing since I didn't see a single restaurant open, other than McDonald's, which, of course, had a line of cars.  Ralph's was open and the parking lot looked full - is that really how people spend Christmas Day.  But the streets were pretty empty.

The east coast storm was horrendous last night. The worst part of it was during the overnight hours. I woke a couple of times, thinking it was from dreams, but it might have been the noise of the rain and wind. At three in the morning, though, I woke up hearing the intensity of it and it was just plain unnerving. I laid there for almost two hours before finally falling back to sleep. I am very happy to report that, to the best of my knowledge, there were no power outages and no damage in our area.

The Christmas miracle is that, instantly, a foot of snow is gone. Just like that. Wiped off the face of the earth. So even while it's going to drop to way below freezing tonight, we have a clean slate, and that could not be more welcome.

Also miraculously, yesterday my last E&T media mail package finally showed up. A couple of those had literally sat in one place (one in Jersey City, a major hub, and the other in Illinois) for a good two weeks or longer. And then, with no notice, they were suddenly here and delivered.

Oh -- last night while we were doing gifts and listening to music, we'd gone through a few "Christmas Cocktail" types of albums when we decided to up the ante a little bit and bring a little class to the jernt, so we put in DR Elmore's compilation of Christmas music. Nathan and Kristi had heard it before but hadn't listened to it all that closely, and this time it was just more beautiful than ever and much appreciated by all.

Been watching a Weinberger operetta - it's not Schwanda, but the tunes are nice, which is more than I can say about the forced production, which is just odd.  It's a comic opera that's gotten two laughs in fifty-five minutes from the audience - zero from me - it's convoluted, but the tunes are fun.  Some very busy choreography, as well.

Guess I'll finish the operetta now.  I wrote the first five pages of will hopefully be the new book - I always do that - write some pages before the January 1 start, so that I'm off and running.  I made some decisions on the form of the book, made some notes and I just started and am enjoying beginning a new journey with new characters.

Since before the Vixter came along, and all through her growing up, our family tradition has been to bake blueberry muffins on Christmas morning

Then we make a nice pot of tea and enjoy tea and muffins hot from the oven while opening our gifts

Oncme he came in and got dry and warm he had a restless night with the wind and rain and the dread that we were about to lose roof shingles or siding

It appears the siding is intact but we’re not entirely sure about the roof shingles

After I left my sister's, I drove through Tumwater on my way home and the only places that I noticed were open were a couple of gas stations and the local Panda Express.
