Title: THE LONELY CHRISTMAS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were lonely, and now it is time for you to post until the lonely cows come home.

Have a good day, all!

I slept quite nicely and warmly in a cold room until around 4:00. Shortly thereafter, Annabelle crawled under the blankets to get warm.  She sleeps high in the bookcase square in the draft from the open window, so I'm always surprised and happy to discover she's not a block of ice by early morning.

This afternoon I will see the Irish Rep's production of Meet Me In St Louis, which is a shortened version of the musical that played on Broadway in the 1980s.  I love the film. but I did not love stage version.  I'm looking forward to this to hear Joshie's orchestrations and John Bell's musical direction.  My harpist friend Karen Lindquist plays in the ensemble.

TOD:

Carol sent me an album of photos of myself from trips we've taken through the years with wishes for more adventures when this craziness is over.

I also received some high quality decaf that I've been enjoying as well as Springsteen's latest album and a gift certificate to Amazon.

High quality decaf ideas would be welcome here.

I drink both decaf and regular, depending. My only gripe with decafs is that I always crave a full bodied mouthfeel, regardless, and many decafs just tend to taste weak to me.

This was an Ethiopian blend from nuts.com.

I have been looking for some light roast decaf coffee lately, because it supposedly helps lower blood sugar. I try most anything that says that. But I haven't been able to find any in this stores. Only on Amazon, which I will likely use my gift card for.

My way of trying to get that mouthfeel sometimes is just using a half-tablespoon more. Doesn't always work, but hot brown water is not my favorite thing in the world.

Good Morning.  The boys and I slept in a little today.  They are very cuddly.   Yesterdays festivities were very low key, but fun nonetheless.  Everyone is planning a big "blow-out" for next Christmas, I'll just be happy to get through each day as they come.

In the meantime, we do what we can and stop complaining about it.

TOD - our family all shopped each other’s Amazon wish lists, so there weren’t many surprises other than which things were from Richard and which we’re from Rob and Mary Linda.  I got books and craft supplies and Richard got books and DVDs.  That tells you a lot about how we each spend our days during the pandemic.  Considering we have several more months of isolation, our gifts will come in handy.

I'm listening to a podcast featuring a great deal of Rebecca Luker music (sadly, nothing from Anything Goes). It's good in that there's much more music than talking, but the host always pronounces her husband's name "Bernstein." It's very irritating.

Uploaded all of my music from Christmas. I did listen to The House Without a Christmas Tree. Ricky Ian Gordon's music sounds too much alike It's somewhat interesting at the beginning, then it all sounds the same, over and over again, endlessly.

Springsteen is up after Rebecca Luker.

There is one spot in Act Two where the visuals are poor, and the production suffers from no costumes and tight budget, but I had a lovely time at MEET ME IN ST LOUIS. I enjoyed the performances and Charlotte's narration, and it's musically very well done. The band gets featured for the overture, entr'acte, and exit music, and besides Karen the harpist, my friends Jeremy Clayton (Joshie's brother) and Suzy Perlman play beautifully under John Bell's direction.  The piece lasts about an hour and 40 minutes.

I still need a new prescription.  Worse is my lenses are completely scratched.  Until my eye issues are under control it is too difficult to know exactly what the new prescription should be as my vision keeps changing minute by minute.  So I continue treating my eyes and getting them checked.  It is a very slow process.

Younger son actually sent a gift this year, however, it is somewhere in the mail system.

Older son sent a gift, one that requires work so I do not consider it fun ;D

The best looking food stuff we received I don't dare eat.

Keith & I stopped exchanging gifts a long time ago.  Instead we began traveling for, or around, Christmas.

So, it looks like a survey - has anyone taken it yet?  Why they would do this a year later is the question I've asked them, along with why the headers asks if they received their perk, which kind of implies or infers some didn't.

I also need a new prescription for eyeglasses, but I'm sure the ophthalmologist will want to do a little something to my right eye and until that it done it's premature to have new glasses made. I'm sort of stuck.

And my January ophthalmology appointment was just preempted because I need to revisit the surgeon. This happens all the time: I might have next to nothing on my calendar, but yet have a schedule conflict. I've been trying to see the ophthalmologist since May 2019.

One Amazon package has been sitting in New Jersey since 12/2 - it has apparently JUST left New Jersey.  Class action lawsuit for Mr. deJoy and the USPS.

I had something like that happen a couple months ago. It sat in Orange County for over a week. I felt certain they had lost it and filed for a refund with Amazon. I received the refund -- and then the package showed up.

I will say, though, that our mail delivery has improved since the USPS was told to put everything back to how it was.

I'm afraid I can't understand Vixmom's brother and sister-in-law's thinking, or that of others who see no need to be cautious. Did they believe the president? I simply can't understand it.

Apparently when he received the confirmation notice he didn’t hit the confirmation button so the system cancelled it which is how I was able to get my appointment

I'm glad you were able to get an appointment, Vixmom, but I sympathize with the other customer. I've seen some online confirmation notices that are terribly confusing and have seen others that simply don't work.

I will be glad when Brian can return and help me with the cleaning. I was tired of looking at the dust and attempted more than usual. My back is not happy. But that part of the apartment looks much better.

I've been thinking about appropriate punishments for those who received the presidential pardons. Manafort committed so many crimes. Maybe a prosecutor overlooked one or two and he can be brought to trial again. When you-know-who is out of office.

I received a gift card from Amazon, a very useful choice. I was told they'd ordered something more for me, but it hadn't arrived yet, so they added the Amazon card. To tide me over, I guess.

That was sweet to add the extra.

That is extremely frustrating.  I hope you won't have a problem rescheduling.

I am shocked at the number of photos I have seen on facebook of "family" Christmas gatherings I deem too large during a pandemic.  I know people who went ahead, keeping the windows open, and had someone small gatherings at Thanksgiving.  They decided it was too much of a worry after the gathering and decided to spend Christmas in a group video chat.

Finished with my viewing and listening to the classic Lenya recording of Threepenny Opera - it's not well recorded (it's on Columbia and one only wishes it had been recorded here in their usual way) - the band doesn't sound like it's even miked at all and that we're hearing them through the actor's mics.  It's still a great album because the cast is great and it all sounds very authentic.

Today, I'll be going to work and come home whenever it's done...hopefully, sooner rather than later.  But first, sleep.

Have a good day, all!

Well, it all took longer than I expected, but I got done everything that I needed to do, so that's good.  The fiscal year of 2020 is done with in our Collections Services computer system. :)

Interesting, indeed, how it kind of *doesn't* feel like a Saturday.

Totally!  Especially since I was at work for seven hours!  I don't normally work on Saturday, but it had to be done...and it's done.

DR GEORGE the State of Indiana fiscal year ends on June 30.....so we had our "get it done" before summer was well under way.

I've heard that other organizations have their fiscal year from July to June.  We've always been the calendar year.

I'm listening to a podcast featuring a great deal of Rebecca Luker music (sadly, nothing from Anything Goes). It's good in that there's much more music than talking, but the host always pronounces her husband's name "Bernstein." It's very irritating.

How rude! >:(

So, it looks like a survey - has anyone taken it yet?  Why they would do this a year later is the question I've asked them, along with why the headers asks if they received their perk, which kind of implies or infers some didn't.

Very strange.  And I don't remember getting the survey/e-mail, so I couldn't fill it out.
